The bright red paint is sure to get you noticed, and once everyone spots this car, they'll be digging the cool black graphics that were expertly laid down on top. Neatly framing the cool Plymouth's curves, it gives the car a more updated vibe that'll look good for years to come. A lot of the trim was shaved, but quite a bit remains, so it retains its Plymouth identity and has great functionality, starting with real door handles instead of problematic door solenoids. The finish is nicely done and while it's showing its age a bit, a professional buff would really wake it back up and give you a high-quality look for not a lot of cash. The original grille is there in spirit, with stainless stripes highlighting the pointed nose, and without bumpers, it takes on a very sleek, clean look. In back there are traditional pinstripes, a frenched license plate frame, and a pair of '39 Ford teardrop taillights, which are always the right choice on a vintage rod of any kind. The two-tone black and red theme continues inside, where the original seats have been covered in fresh seat covers that work well with the exterior paint. The upholstery is in great shape showing only minor wear and the pleated door panels are a great hot rod look that's been popular for decades. The interesting woodgrained window surrounds and dashboard are similar to what many automakers used in the '40s, and the gauges appear to be original and fully functional, joined by a modern temperature gauge under the dash. There's an AM/FM/CD stereo neatly installed under the dash so the original chrome-laden center stack can still be the star of the show inside. The back seat offers plenty of stretch-out room for passengers, making this a very practical rod that still looks great. There's also a fairly sizeable trunk under that fastback profile, which is fully upholstered and includes a custom enclosure for the battery. For motivation, this Mopar turns to good old Chevy power, in this case a 350 cubic inch V8. It's a neat fit in the Plymouth's engine bay and with things like a 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust, and a high-rise intake manifold, it's a very strong runner. A few chrome pieces dress things up a bit and the bright red paint extends under the hood onto things like the power brake booster. This car also offers power steering so it's easy to drive and the dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers sounds aggressive without getting tiresome on the highway. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission spins what might be the car's original rear end, so it's plenty peppy around town. The underside isn't detailed for show, but you already know this car was built to drive, not to ride around in a trailer. It has just the right stance and sits on a set of polished wheels and 235/60/15 Goodyear radials all around. Dare to be a little different with this clean little Plymouth. Great looks, lots of performance, and a few unique touches will make it stand out anywhere. With a restoration that offers a few updates but doesn't erase the quality and fun-to-drive quotient, it's an affordable, fun way to get started in the greatest hobby on earth. Finished in two-tone tan that isn't exactly correct, this handsome sedan nonetheless looks fantastic driving down the road or parked in your driveway. The restoration is now several years old and showing its age in some areas, but it certainly falls under the category of a fine driver with great eye appeal. Fastback styling was at its zenith following the war, and even the four-door sedans looked downright sporty when finished in light colors like this. It retains all its original chrome and trim, most of which is stainless steel so it can be buffed and polished to a high shine without an expensive trip to the chrome shop. And don't worry, because the parts that are chrome, including the bumpers and sleek bullet-shaped hood ornament are in excellent shape. This car is in ideal condition for club events, touring, and local shows, and it means you'll never have to fret about bugs, rain, or dirt while having fun behind the wheel. The interior has obviously been restored using burgundy leather for the seats that's both attractive and durable, giving the humble Plymouth a very upscale feel. Traditional patterns were used, with pleats and contrasting cream piping on the seats and door panels, but nothing is over-done, keeping to the Plymouth's everyman theme. New carpets were installed at the same time and work well with the upholstery, and you'll note that all the original garnish moldings and door hardware has been retained and lovingly restored. The flashy woodgrained dash is full of crisply marked instruments, and this car carries accessories like an AM radio and under-dash heater/defroster, which were actually a big deal in the mid-40s. The trunk is lined in black carpet and carries a full-sized spare, just in case. Plymouth's 95 horsepower 217 cubic inch inline-six is a big overachiever, delivering peppy performance around town thanks to a set of steep gears in back (back then there were no interstate highways and cars rarely saw more than 50 MPH). The engine bay is tidy and quite authentic, showing original parts like the oil bath air cleaner and 6-volt generator. Wearing turquoise paint, which is perhaps a shade or two brighter than original, the engine runs beautifully with a wonderful mechanical sound that's sadly absent from our cars today. A big part of these cars' appeal lies in the way the machinery does its work, and enjoying one as it was built is a true pleasure. It's also surprisingly thrifty, and Plymouth advertisements of the day suggested that it was among the most economical new cars to operate. It fires up easily and idles with a nice six-cylinder grumble from the glasspack-equipped twin tailpipes, and wears a recent set of 6.70-15 wide whites. If your interests run to early Mopars, this Plymouth makes a fantastic starter collectable. Parts are still easy to find, it's easy to drive, and there are enthusiasts everywhere. The Plymouth Deluxe Touring Coupe is essentially a two-door sedan. It’s powered by an inline six cylinder engine that displaces 201.3 cubic inches, and makes 82 horsepower. For a pre-war car, the 1937 Plymouth was quite impressive with its all steel construction. This particular car went through an incredibly extensive restoration in the early 1990s. As a reminder of its top quality and pedigree, it still wears the badge for its 1996 National First Prize winner status from the Antique Automobile Club of America. It’s not often that a ’37 Plymouth comes around with an award like that. All of the chrome still shines brightly, and the black paint job looks fantastic, considering its age. With this car, as you can see a brief snippet in the photos, is a complete photo journal of the restoration. From 1939-1945, World War II war production was the primary focus of American manufacturing. The rationing, sacrifice, and hardships of these war years resulted in an explosion of demand for consumer products after the war. One of the first wants of most American families was a new automobile. In 1949, Chevrolet trumped the competition with the first new post war styling. Chevrolet overhauled the entire lineup in 1949, moving from prewar designs to brand new cars with modern full width bodies and pontoon fenders. The division offered Special and Deluxe models in both Fleetline and Styleline series. Buyers could buy a bare bones coupe for as little as $1,300, or could move all the way up to $2,200 for an eight passenger station wagon. Virtually every body type and price level was offered in between. Each year, from 1949 to 1952, Chevrolet improved on their design. The 1952 model was the pinnacle of the first post war generation Chevrolets. Advertising touted the 1952 Chevrolet Styleline and Fleetline models as "More beautiful than ever." Reacting to the Korean conflict, civilian automobile production was cut this year, causing all automakers to post considerably smaller totals. Even with only 818,142 cars built, Chevrolet again scored well ahead of Ford, with Plymouth and Buick trailing far behind. Fast forward to the 80's and 90's. By this time, the first nostalgia craze swept the nation. Car enthusiasts everywhere had a burning desire to modify and upgrade the unique post war automobiles that they remembered riding in when they were children. The 1949-1952 Chevrolet was the model of choice for various reasons. First, because they outsold all other manufacturers, there were more available. Second, the aerodynamic design was perfect for street machines, and especially at the drag strip. Most importantly, most gear heads were familiar with the venerable small block Chevy engine. They were easy to maintain, parts were readily available, and when modified they went fast! Please read the entire ad. Although this car was painted at least 20 years ago, the finish still shows well. There are driving chips and some minor age imperfections, but the paint still maintains a glossy shine. Nice, driver quality paint. All steel tilt front end. As with the rest of the car, the front end was professionally fabricated using original factory components. When the front end is closed, there is a complete factory stock appearance. This is not a cheap fiberglass flip front with ill fitting gaps all around. Check the fitment and gapping in the photos. Very subtle two tone blue paint. In certain lighting and at certain angles, it is almost appears as one color. All glass is in very good condition. Factory split windshield. Factory saw tooth grille in very good condition. Front and rear bumpers are also in very good condition, with bumper guards. Stainless and emblems are in very good shape. All factory original emblems are in place, with the addition of the Hot Rod emblems. Vintage custom whiskey runner headlamp covers. Deep dish chrome wheels with baby moon hubcaps. Dayton Daytona SR radial tires on the front. Super Sport G/T Radial 60 tires on the rear. Single sport mirror. Coil springs on the front, with inboard mounted shock absorbers. Leaf springs in the rear, with coil over shocks. Undercarriage is not detailed. However, it is clean and solid. Blue tweed cloth. Reclining bucket seats in the front with folding center arm rest. Cushions and covers in very good condition. Rear bench seat also in very good shape. Seat belts. GM tilt steering column. Custom installed GM dash insert assembly. Factory clock still mounted on factory dash. Headliner in good condition. Door panels in good condition. Carpet in very good shape. AM/FM/CD with rear package shelf and door panel speakers. Tissue dispenser mounted above radio. Air conditioning switch panel is in the dash, but there are no A/C components under the hood. Separate heat and defrost controls. Auxiliary lighting switch panel. Power windows. Passenger side is not working correctly. Sun Pro tachometer mounted under the dash. Speedometer mounted in custom dash insert. Sun water temperature, oil pressure, volts, and fuel gauges also mounted in dash. You can be the only person at your car cruise with a real vintage hot rod.
