Sleek, stylish, reserved, and full of performance, the big Bonneville was the ultimate symbol of success for a younger generation. The fact that it was also fast was surely part of its appeal, and this nicely preserved example demonstrates without a doubt why these cars are hot collectables today. Glancing at the cowl tag, you'll note that this car was originally Cameo Ivory, but now wearing a coat of Starlight Black, it takes on an entirely different personality. Pontiac was hitting on all eight cylinders throughout the '60s, but this might be the car that really started the luxury/performance trend that defined the excitement division. The bodywork on this particular car is quite straight and the paint has a wonderful vintage-looking shine, so it looks right and generates a ton of attention wherever it goes. Fit and finish is very good, with nicely aligned doors, a critical detail given the long trim that runs from nose to tail. A few neat details like the fender ornaments, the split Pontiac grille, and those ultra-cool curving taillights mean this is a car you can admire for a long time without seeing it all. Someone has invested big in making it look this good, and even at this price, it's a heck of a lot of car for the money. Nice! Pontiac enthusiasts will find the tri-tone upholstery and the uniquely-shaped bucket seats familiar, and it's more evidence that Pontiac was working overtime to separate themselves from the pack. The code 277 Aqua interior looks very good with only minor signs of use that seem to enhance its appeal. Come on, don't you just want to slide into that driver's seat and key it up? The instrument panel is a double-decker affair, with a wide speedometer up top framed in wood and a stainless section below for the auxiliary controls. The original steering wheel is in incredible condition, especially with those clear Lucite sections that are shockingly well preserved. You'll also note options like factory A/C, power windows, and an AM radio on the list, making this a no-compromises piece of luxury muscle. Overhead there's a black power convertible top with matching boot and the massive trunk is detailed with a reproduction mat and a full-sized spare with cover. Pontiac's 389 cubic inch V8 was a mainstay across the line, and it delivers impressive performance in the Bonneville. Topped by a 4-barrel carburetor and with dual exhaust, it's powerful but doesn't call attention to itself; it's merely competent and trustworthy. It's painted correct Pontiac Turquoise and still wears the optional heavy-duty air cleaner. Power steering and brakes were a good choice on a big cruiser like this, and you'll note there's a giant generator in there to keep things charged. Underneath, it has a correct automatic transmission and heavy-duty rear end, and if ever there was a car designed for long road trips across the western US, this is it. Add in 8-lug wheels and 215/75/14 whitewall radials, and this is one of the best-looking cars of the period. If you've reached that age where maybe a Firebird is too juvenile but there's not enough gray hair on your head for a Buick or Cadillac, perhaps this awesome Bonneville is the right choice. The ultimate in '60s chic, the Bonneville is for guys who have it made but don't much feel like driving around in their dad's stuffy Cadillac, and it's got the power to back it up. Painting it black only makes it look that much more massive, maybe about a city block long, but Pontiac designers nailed it with this one. Black is this car's original color, so you know the guy who ordered a loaded triple-black Bonneville ragtop back in 1963 had his life together. It's in great shape, not perfect, but certainly nice enough to wear black paint with pride and no glaring issues show up in the keeps-no-secrets finish. The doors fit well and the side trim lines up neatly, so you know they spent the time to get it right when it was time to put it back together. The stacked headlights were a Pontiac look that continued for years and influenced the entire industry, while the beautiful, almost delicate taillights give this car the look of something far more expensive. Bright chrome details provide just the right amount of contrast, but not so much that they make the car look heavy. The Pontiac guys got this one right! Black bench seats provide enough room for six in the full-sized B-body ragtop, and in the top-of-the-line Bonneville, luxury came standard. The seats remain in good condition with some signs of age and wear, but the door panels look very good, the carpets are dark and not particularly worn, and that's real walnut veneer on the dash. A wide speedometer is directly ahead of the driver, but a trio of auxiliary gauges is in the center of the dash and looks extremely sporty, making the Bonneville the ultimate luxury/muscle machine. An artfully designed steering wheel makes you feel important when you're at the helm, and the car is optioned up with power windows and a power convertible top that mean you don't even have to get out of your seat to enjoy open-air motoring. The factory radio is still in the dash, too, and the gorgeous panel ahead of the passenger with "BONNEVILLE" spelled out in block letters is extremely cool. The black convertible top is in excellent shape and with a black boot it gives the big convertible a very sleek look. And you know it's made for road trips, because there's a giant trunk with original mats and a full-sized spare tire. Pontiac's 389 cubic inch V8 was the top engine in 1963 and provides the kind of effortless power you'd expect from a car like this. It's not all shiny and detailed under the hood, but the basic mechanical goodness of the engine can't be denied and it purrs along on the highway without breaking a sweat. There are no major deviations from stock, so it's going to be easy to keep it in top condition from here on out. A Hydra-Matic automatic transmission delivers power to the stock rear end, and aside from a new muffler, the undercarriage appears to be quite original. Handsome full wheel covers with spinners are fitted inside flashy 15-inch wide whitewall radials. Luxury performance was never this good anywhere but in the Pontiac showrooms, and the top-of-the-line Bonneville still delivers traffic-stopping looks and plenty of punch on the open road. A proven Strato-Flight Hydra-Matic 4-speed spins a correct GM axle that literally sails the engine through its broad power band. 1960 Pontiac "Bonneville" Engine Size 389 V8 Transmission Type 4 Speed Automatic Primary Color Black Interior Color Red Mileage 0 Stock 860W3942 Video Description 1960 Pontiac Bonneville 4-Door Vista VIN 860W3942 By the end of 1955, Pontiac introduced a long overdue, new V-8 engine. A new era for Pontiac began in 1956 when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen took over the reins as Pontiac's general manager. A new engineering group was assembled headed by Pete Estes and John Z. DeLorean who were tasked with developing new line of cars with an emphasis on performance. To promote the new line of performance Pontiacs, a racing program was developed and a new, optional extra horsepower engine, like those used on the team's racing cars, was made available to potential Pontiac buyers. The new engine was equipped with dual four-barrel carburetors and a full-race camshaft. In 1957, another new engine was offered that was fuel-injected and this engine was only available on the Bonneville series convertibles. By 1957, Pontiac was offering vehicles in four different models. The least expensive model was the Chieftain line which was followed by the Super Chief line, the Star Chief line, and the Star Chief Custom line which was the most expensive of Pontiac's offerings that year. The Star Chief Custom line differed from its lower priced siblings with deluxe two-toned interiors and extra exterior trim features. There were four vehicles offered in the Custom line: a four-door sedan, a four-door hardtop, a two-door hardtop, and the top-of-the-line vehicle a Bonneville convertible. In 1958, the name Bonneville would now represent the top of the line Pontiac models. Starting with the 1959 models, a new marketing strategy was adopted to make Pontiac into a "sporty and youthful car" that would appeal to younger buyers. During the next couple of years, the cars would become wider and lower and have available high performance engines. Pontiac's continued success in the NASCAR racing program helped to promote this new strategy and increase sales. Pontiac would continue to build and sell low to medium priced cars with a variety of trim and mechanical options throughout 1960s. For the 1960 model year, the Pontiac Bonneville line consisted of the Series 27 and the Series 28. The Series 27 was designated only for the station wagon body style while the Series 28 contained three body styles: a four-door Vista hardtop sedan, a two-door hardtop and a convertible. The four-door Vista hardtop sedan had a base price of $3,333 and approximately 39,000 were built and sold. This example was restored during the 1980s. After restoration, this Pontiac was awarded a Senior National First Place Award by the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) in 1987 AND 1997. The vehicle retains these badges on the front bumper. This vehicle is an older restoration done to high point standards and today remains in excellent condition throughout. The body panels are excellent and fit well to each other. The four doors, decklid, and hood all align well and show no signs of damage, repair or neglect. The exterior black finish remains in excellent condition, as does the stainless steel and chrome trim. The interior has been restored in the proper tri-toned russet color combination and is in excellent condition. The dashboard and all of its instruments have been properly restored and today are in excellent condition. The chassis is clean and shows little signs of use. Most of the chassis components have been undercoated. All of the chassis fittings are correct and the chassis and suspension components show no signs of neglect or abuse, indicating that this vehicle was likely very well-preserved prior to its restoration. The engine bay shows extremely well and the correct, V-8 engine is clean and well-detailed. This vehicle has all of the desirable factory options including automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, power seats, power windows, Wonder Bar radio, clock, dual antennas, fender skirts, factory wheel covers, whitewall tires, dual rearview mirrors and heater. This example also has its correct Fisher Body number tag affixed to its cowl. Overall, this is a superb example of one of the most desirable enclosed Pontiac models built during the 1960s. This Catalina is located in a Copart facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have a clear Indiana title that will be mailed to the buyer. PRICED TO SELL !!! Here is the description I have from the previous owner: "This is a great looking and driving 1964 Catalina Convertible that has around 39k original miles. It has been parked in a dry storage for many years. I recently had a mechanic go through the car to make sure it is road worthy again. Whatever it needed was taken care of. The gas tank was cleaned and the corroborator was rebuilt. The breaks are in good condition. The car runs and drives great. This Pontiac has a great dash, steering wheel, and the seats are in great condition. Paint is very shiny with only a couple of small scratches. The top is working and is in great condition with only one small tear on the driver's side. The back window vinyl is in great condition only a little dirty/dusty and it can be cleaned up.
