The Pontiac Chieftain was an automobile produced by the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors from 1949 to 1958. Chieftains were one of the first all new car designs to come to Pontiac in the Post War years. Previous cars had been 1942 models with minor revisions. In 1949 the first generation Chieftain replaced the Pontiac Torpedo as Pontiac's smaller and lower priced model. However, by the early 1950s, Pontiac realized it needed to overhaul its overly conservative styling and outdated straight eight. Finally, in 1955, the "old-man's-car " was dumped -- and the second generation was released. The new, vibrant "Strato-Streak" era was here. The 1955 model Chieftains featured completely new chassis, body and engine. The engine was the biggest news as this was Pontiac's first overhead valve V8. The 287.2 cu. in. engine made 173 or 180 horsepower at 4400 rpm depending on which version was ordered (the difference was due to changes in carburetion and compression ratios). Pontiac definitely benefitted from the massive GM redesign for 1955, sharing much of its' styling cues with contemporary Chevrolets and Buicks. The entry level Chieftain had dog-leg windshields and was wider and lower. Straight through fender lines and attractive two tone paint jobs were divided by bright trim. The hoods had wide stainless strips down each side and a massive divided front bumper. The redesigned models were an overwhelming success, pushing Pontiac over 500,000 units for the first time in history, even though the complete redesign delayed the manufacture. 1955 production did not begin until October 4, 1954. The cars were introduced to the public a mere 15 days later. 58,654 Two Door 860 Sedans were manufactured in 1955. The Chieftain was sold in both Special and Deluxe lines, both carrying the new Strato-Streak V8 engine. Four and two door Chieftain sedans were available, as were the two door Colony station wagons, two door Chieftain Catalina hardtops, and a four door wagon. Chieftains went through another major styling change for the third generation in 1958. All models were given honeycomb grilles, quad head and tail lamps, concave rear fenders, and longer, lower lines. The 1958 models were the last Chieftains to be produced. It was replaced with the all-new Catalina in 1959. The Chieftains paved the way for the future successful models such as Catalina and Bonneville. The Tri Five Chieftains ('55, '56,'57) were by far the most popular. However, the most iconic of the three is the 1955. VIN DECODING: P755H44724 P- Pontiac, MI. Paint was redone a decade or more ago. However, it is obvious by examining current condition that the preparation and paintwork were quality, professional applications. Exterior finish still looks good, buffed to a nice shine. In proper lighting, the pearlescent tint really pops. Good, driver quality paint. A few small bubbles on door bottoms and bottom quarter panels. Front and rear bumpers are original and in good condition, with some patina. Stainless trim is in nice condition. Mirrors and door handles have been replaced or replated. Remaining chrome trim is original, in good condition with some pitting. Original Chieftain hood ornament still illuminates. Side and rear glass in overall good condition. Original windshield is in fair/good condition, with some clouding and bubbling on the bottom. GM slotted chrome Rally wheels with half moon style hub caps. Rear wheels are deep dish. Radial tires. CLICK ON THIS LINK TO VIEW TWO VIDEOS OF THE CAR RUNNING FROM THE PUBLIC DOMAIN OF PHOTO BUCKET: http://s514.photobucket.com/user/redeuce/library/1955%20PONTIAC%20VIDEOS Engine and engine bay are essentially in factory stock configuration. 287 Cu. In. overhead valve V8 engine. Single two barrel carburetor. Rated at 180HP when optioned with Dual Range Hydra Matic transmission. Engine and engine bay have been nicely detailed. Manual steering. Manual drum brakes. Dual exhaust. This vintage classic runs and drives as well as it looks. Dependable enough to cruise in. Frame and undercarriage are clean and solid. Trunk is in good condition. Has been cleaned up and detailed. Original factory Black interior has been recovered with Ivory vinyl. The recovering was probably done thirty years ago. The White vinyl was installed over the original seat covers. Condition of original interior unknown. However, seats feel firm and comfortable. Front seat and seat covers are in decent condition, with some flaws. Rear seat is in good condition. Vinyl on door panels is curled and delaminating some from the backing. The interior is fine as it is for daily cruising. To elevate the car condition a notch, the new owner could redo the interior. Original factory dash is in good condition. Lights, signals, and brake lights work. Fuel and temperature gauge work. Heater works. All windows roll up and down. Carpet is in good shape. Wipers are not working, as well as horn. Original steering wheel is in good shape, a little separation at the top and bottom. This is a two door sedan, not the typical four door you see mostly on the internet. The pearlescent paint sets this one apart from any of the others for sale currently. Again, you can drive this beauty anywhere. Don't hesitate, this is an investment in the future. We specialize in the unique and rare, future investment affordable collector vehicles at old school prices. Since 1978 we have been a leader in finding rare and desirable cars. Most of our finds have done extremely well for our customers in terms of investments and enjoyment. Here is an example of a rare 1 of LS6 Chevelle we sold for 50k in the early 2000's. http://www.classicmusclecars.com/cgi-bin/swrm/det.cgi?id=131&bl=m-;;k-;;nhs-195;;status-Sold;;sb- It was recently on eBay for 129k and has apparently sold. Another example, we brokered the only 1968 Camaro Z-28 Convertible in July 1993 for 165K, it sold in 2002 for over 7 figures. These are just a couple of examples of the thousands of cars we have sold, and many were super investments. We know the rare muscle car market like no one on the planet. This Pontiac Chieftain is a rare Vintage Classic Car that fits into this category of an investment and enjoyment vehicle. Get in on the ground floor and have a big smile down the road. I sold a red one just like this for 13500 two years ago. If you are holding out....sell it or hold on! If you are trying to make sound investments, then this has to be a great time while the market settles into its "life without the Euro" for awhile. Ebb and flow....This is a daily driver right here. ....Winter is coming... This is a real clean and low original mile 1956 Pontiac Chieftain that has been in the Northwest and she is solid. The gentleman I bought her from went through her in the last year and rebuilt the carb, added new exhaust, some brake work along with a good tune up and tires. She runs and drives really nice with real nice power from the original 316.6 motor. She is a daily driver type of car with a real clean appearance. The interior has its original seats with old school seat covers that have been there since the car was almost new. The dash has been painted and a new headliner and carpet added. The interior is clean! The gauges are working as are the wipers, headlights, brake lights and blinkers. GLASS IS ALL GOOD! 87k Original miles Always a North West car 5 Year old paint with nice shine Real Nice Chrome Original 316.6/ 205 HP Good Glass DAILY DRIVER! The paint is around 5 years old with no rust issues apparent. The paint as you can see in the video has a deep shine and looks good from 5 feet. The under carriage is really solid and it is obvious she has never seen the dreaded salt routine. The trunk pan is like new but original. The chrome still has a real nice shine. A real solid car from front to back. This is a unique and stunning classic coupe. Combining the last of the old-school, pre-war curves, with a sneak preview of what was to come in the later 1950s, this slick Pontiac manages to be both sporty and formal at the same time. The black paint is factory correct, but it benefits from a mid-life refresh. This helps highlight the body that has remained amazingly straight for 63 years. Black is also great to show off the original chrome trim, including the streaks running along the hood, matching piece cascading down the deck lid, the intricate front grille, full side arrowhead trim, and emblems embedded in the rear fenders. Those who know Pontiacs will be especially happy to see that the amber Indian head hood ornament still lights up at night to help lead the way. One glance inside will convince you that someone really looked after this coupe. The gray cloth interior was switched over at some point to a much more durable and allergy-friendly vinyl. The care that went into making sure there was intricate detail, and look period correct, show that this was a valued family member. The dash is pure jet-age cool, with a giant radio speaker that's aviation inspired, and a slick pod of gauges ahead of the driver. Stylish bright trim on the door panels gives a hint of things to come in the fabulous 50s. More evidence of the can easy life can be found in the original steering wheel and stylish horn button. Pontiac's 268 cubic-inch straight-eight motor earned a reputation for being smooth, reliable, and quite sturdy. These naturally balanced powerplants had a creamy smoothness usually reserved for luxury cars, and helped Pontiac transcend its budget-minded market placement. Authentic right down to the oil bath air cleaner, this numbers-matching motor is a real attention-getter for its honest survivor appearance. This torquey motor is mated to the original three-speed column-shifted manual transmission, which actually makes this a fine cruiser today. This is especially true thanks to the modern wheel and tire package that currently is installed on this Pontiac. If you need any more evidence that this has been a cherished classic all its life, we'll be happy to show you a binder full of documentation, including a copy of the original title, original letter from the dealership, original service guide, inspection records from the 80s, and owner's manual. Where else can you get such a well-sorted and documented cool classic coupe for under $15K? Hello to all EBayers. I've been with EBay for several years and I want to keep my reputation with EBay at 100%. This is your chance to buy this car at a very reasonable price. I bought this car on Ebay (Item#: 141658133534) with the intention of bringing it to California but found a 2 door Chieftain locally which is what I was originally looking for. This Chieftain is located in a Copart facility in Cudahy, Wisconsin. All Copart storage fees will be paid by me. I have a clear Wisconsin title for this vehicle that will be mailed to the buyer. This is the information I have from the previous owner: "1951 Pontiac Chieftain, Excellent condition, Paint is very nice- no rust, Trunk, floors, frame, mounts etc all very clean. Flathead Six engine runs beautifully, smooth, Clean oil always, no leaks, no smoke, great compression, Shifts fine, Clutch and transmission are good, brakes are all good, exhaust is all good, lights, signals all work, (extra 3rd brake light added to rear window), Very nice interior, new door panels, seats are beautiful. I drive it often, Runs cool at 180 even on hot days in traffic. no leaks. Has under seat heaters. Horns work, Very good tires all the way around. A little play in the steering,A pleasure to drive. drives and stops straight. Only needs are headliner fabric (currently inside roof is painted grey) and driverside wing window glass, all other glass is fine, all windows operate as they should. A lot of Chrome, stainless on this car in very good condition. 6 volt system with 6 volt single wire alternator installed. Charges very good. A good clean ready to drive 1951 Pontiac.Gets a lot of attention. Thanks for looking, ask any questions. Vaccum wipers work great, Heater blower works great, Interior light works. I am including the original Generator and an extra spare fuel pump (nos glass bowl), and the metal ribs for the head liner fabric. There are NO gas leaks, antifreeze leaks, or oil leaks." I want to make sure that you are satisfied with your purchase. Please bid with confidence and if you have any questions that I might not have covered in the description, please don’t hesitate to ask. I will help arrange shipping. You can try United Auto Transport for shipping. They’re a very reliable company. Call 800-963-5505 to receive a quote for transport. I’m able to store it for a couple of weeks after purchase is made if you need time lining it up. Keep in mind she’s over 60 years old. Please be ready to buy when you click. A non refundable $500 deposit is due at purchase and final payment within 7 days. Balance is to be paid by wire or a certified bank cashier’s check. Check will need to clear before the car will be released and title is sent. The winning bidder needs to contact me within 24 hours of auction end to make payment arrangements. Please arrange all financing prior to bidding. If you are not sure about something please ask! Do not assume anything. All non-paying high bidders will be reported to EBay. I have not seen this car. The information that I have is from the previous owner. It is your responsibility to inspect the car or send a third party inspector for your satisfaction. Remember this is a 64 year old car and can have some imperfections that are not in the description that I am not aware of. As with most pre-owned vehicles, minor wear may be discernible and degree of wear is often related to age of the vehicle such as but not limited to: scuffs, scratches, dings, dents, fading, paintwork, minor rock chips, and other imperfections. This is your chance to own this great classic at a very reasonable price.

1953 Pontiac CheiftainFully restored from two tone paint down to the undercoated undercarriage. Motor and transmission was replaced with a modern crate motor and it runs great. Paint and body looks good. It has been a few years since the restoration and there are a few blemishes but nothing major. This thing turns heads everywhere. Original gauges and the am radio work. Alpine Bluetooth cd player is hidden in glove box and picks up your music on you phone. Runs and drives great. I don't drive it as much as I should and need the room in the garage. I will entertain any offer but low ball offers will simply entertaining and then discarded.

Hello to all Ebayers! I have been with EBay for several years and I want to keep my reputation with EBay at 100%. I bought this vehicle with the intention of bringing it to California to add to my collection because I'm into classic cars, I'm trying to sell a few of my cars because I sold my building and don’t want to leave them outside. This Pontiac Chieftain is located in a Copart facility in Candia, NH. I tried to sell it on Copart but this vehicle is a classic clean vehicle and they have a salvage yard so it's not the best place to sell this vehicle there. You can purchase the vehicle through Ebay or you can purchase it through Copart by becoming a member. This car has a New Hampshire Title. If you need me to get a CA title for this car there is a small fee included in the process. PRICED TO SELL !!!Here is the description I have from the previous owner: 1956 PONTIAC CHIEFTAIN ? Mechanicals Just over 92k miles on original 316ci 5.2L V8 motor with Hydra-matic trans.Car runs and drives very well and handles well on the highwayGas tank was removed and replaced with a 15gal fuel cell in the trunk Recent exhaust with Flowmaster muffler and dual chrome 3” rolled tips. Flange gaskets were replacedNew master cylinder, brakes are great. Front end was rebuilt (tie rod ends, upper and lower bushings, stabilizer links etc). New rear wheel seals done last year. New American Racing Torque Thrust 17” wheels w/Falcon tires. ? Exterior Very solid body and the paint shows well (Hot Rod Flatz Copper Pearl Metallic)All doors, hood and trunk open and close as they should, all glass is greatReplaced a lot of the chrome/stainless including NOS front grille, and re-chromed lower front bumper valance. Front elbow bumper covers and bullets were taken off another vehicle and are in very nice shape. Brand new door handles and drivers side mirror. Stainless trim is in nice shape.Well maintained and garage kept ? Interior Interior is very nice. Seats, carpet, and headliner are not ripped and are in nice shape. Door panels are aged but still look nice. Pioneer Stereo/CD in the glove box, Kicker 6x9’s in the rear deck, and kick panel speakers. Original radio works, just disconnected from antenna. Speedometer and odometer are in working order. Heater works fine This is a great classic to drive and enjoy? I have been with eBay for many years and I want to keep my reputation and feedback 100%. I purchased this car with the intent of adding it to my collection but I have sold my building and I'm running out of storage room. Please note, I want to make sure that you are absolutely satisfied with your purchase. Bid with confidence and if you have any questions that I might not have covered in the description, don't hesitate to ask. You can email me or send me your telephone number and I will give you a call. Shipping Buyer is responsible for shipping costs. I can cooperate with your shipper. This vehicle is advertised on other sites so I have the right to end the auction early if it gets sold. I'm not a dealer, just a very passionate collector of classic cars and trucks. Payment Please be ready to buy when you click. A non-refundable $500 deposit is due when the auction ends and final payment within 7 days. Balance is to be paid by bank wire or a certified bank cashier's check. Check will need to clear before the vehicle will be released and title is sent. The winning bidder needs to contact me within 24 hours of auction end to make payment arrangements. Please arrange all financing prior to bidding. If you are not sure about something, please ask. Do not assume anything. I'm very easy going and will help in any way I can, but please be absolutely sure that you are ready to buy when you bid. All non-paying bidders will be reported to eBay. Disclaimer People have different opinions and expectations of older cars. It is your responsibility to inspect the vehicle or send a third party inspector for your satisfaction. Remember, this car is from 1950's and can have some imperfections that are not in the description that I'm not aware of.I had a bad experience with a ruthless dealer that wanted to buy a classic from me and triple the price the next day! If you are buying and paying for this vehicle, please contact your transporter after vehicle is picked up and within the 2 hours please give me a positive feedback! This is your chance to own a great classic at a great price.
