In addition to being slightly faster (despite having a poorer drag co-efficient than the 924), the 944 was better equipped and more refined than the 924's, it had better handling and stopping power and was more comfortable to drive. The factory-claimed 0-60 mph time of less than 9 seconds (8.3 seconds according to "Porsche the Ultimate Guide" By Scott Faragher). The factory-claimed top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h) was also pessimistic, Autocar having verified a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h)[verification needed]. The car had nearly even front to rear weight distribution (50.7% front/49.3% rear) thanks to the rear transaxle balancing out the engine in the front.[2] This gave it very balanced, predictable handling at the limits of adhesion. In mid-1985 the 944 underwent its first significant changes. These included : a new dash and door panels, embedded radio antenna, upgraded alternator (from 90 amp to 115 amp), increased oil sump capacity, new front and rear cast alloy control arms and semi-trailing arms, larger fuel tank, optional heated and powered seats, Porsche HiFi sound system, and revisions in the mounting of the transaxle to reduce noise and vibration. The "cookie cutter" style wheels used in the early 944s were upgraded to new "phone dial" style wheels. (Fuchs wheels remained an option.) 1985 model year cars incorporating these changes are sometimes referred to as "1985B", "85.5" or "1985½" cars.

All receipts in glove box with all documented maintenance. Clutch, water pump and timing belt was changed 5 years ago. Polished factory wheels with new tires. No A/C on car, dashboard is perfect. Interior is perfect accept small tear in drivers seat. $5000 sound system in the car from 10 years ago. All alpine system. Stereo sounds as amazing as the car does. Porsche 2.5 liter water-cooled engine, 150 hp, runs great, new timing belt, new water pump, car has been 90% restored, have journal with dates and records for everything from light bulb replacement to wheel bearings. Good stuff: New stereo/CD player with aux input, removable sunroof, power windows, power mirrors, front bumper delete ( removed the ugly rubber things ), custom rear center panel w/Porsche badge. Interior is in good shape with dash cover, driver's seat has small tear but I have new seat covers to fit. Also included- Bra for nose, cover for sunroof, original Porsche tool kit, spare tire, many extra misc. parts. Bad stuff: The AC compressor is not connected and needs to be serviced. Needs new front shocks. Paint job is not great and there are a few small dings here and there. Overall, the car is in pretty good shape for being 32 years old. This was Porsche's flagship model in 1983 that sold for nearly $20K new. The car has is a lot of fun to drive, with 50/50 balance ( transmission is over rear wheels) that gives amazing handling and cornering. I hate to part with this car, lots of time and money invested in it, not much left to do to make it perfect.

I am the second owner of this 944. I bought it off a friend of mine that lived in the neighborhood, who was the original owner since new. I bought it with about 130,000 miles on it, and it has just under 160,000 miles on it now. I got it as a "weekend" pleasure car, and as such it doesn't get driven nearly as much as my daily driver. I've taken pride in the car, and I believe it shows in it's condition. I've done the regular service and maintenance on this car, which is listed in the ad. It is in excellent condition. It is an original California car, purchased new from Porsche of Beverly Hills, so it has no rust or corrosion issues. It passed it's recent smog test without a problem. The car is a pleasure to drive, with one of the most comfortable driving positions in any Porsche and one of the best shifting manual transmissions in the world. If you're familiar with the 944, it's widely regarded as one of the best handling cars ever made. Everything works on the car, including the sunroof and A/C. The Alpine stereo was installed by the previous owner, and sounds great. The car is a solid investment, and the value of 944's have steadily increased over the last 10 years. I honestly hate to sell the car, but my current residence has no covered or indoor parking.
