2014 PORSCHE CAYMAN S - PDK/SPORT CHRONO – LIKE NEW I purchased this car new from Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, FL. I had fully intended to keep it well into my retirement years, but have decided to order a new 981 Spyder instead. I wish I could keep both, as the S coupe is a fantastic car. The car has always been garaged, and washed by hand at least once a week. I am the only driver, and the car is used only occasionally. If I take it to my office, it is parked under cover. It is not my daily driver. I am a long time Porsche owner (1972 911S, a number of 930s, a 993TT, etc.), and am a fanatic about keeping my cars clean and in perfect condition. There are no scratches or nicks on the car. It looks as it did when I bought it, inside and out. The wheels don’t have a mark on them. The car was covered with a clear bra by Brumos when I bought it, and it still looks like new as well. It covers the lower portion of the hood, the bumper, the front of the fenders, and the mirrors. Of course, there have been no accidents and no paintwork, and nothing has been modified on the car. The floor mats are brand new (I have coco mats which I am keeping). The car has the leather interior option, and if you haven’t seen the difference between this and the standard interior, you need to look at that. The dash is done in leather with stitching as opposed to the standard vinyl finish, and the leather door panels have the polished aluminum strip which is missing on the standard interior cars. To me, it is a night and day difference. Porsche's Cayenne, the Porsche so few enthusiasts get but many consumers buy, receives more than just a face lift for 2008. Evidence confirms HGH use—that's "hefty gains in horsepower"—but Porsche has done nothing unethical. There's a slight enlargement, to 4.8 liters (from 4.5), direct injection, and the addition of Porsche's VarioCam Plus variable valve timing and lift. After all these changes, the V-8 in a Porsche Cayenne S now puts out 385 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, gains of 45 horsepower and 59 pound-feet. Although those figures won't grab any headlines, they are gains of 13 and 16 percent, respectively, which is way more than some people here would ever tip. With the extra power under hood being channeled to all four wheels through Porsche's standard all-wheel-drive system, we recorded 0-to-60 mph in six ticks flat and the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 98 mph, figures that beat the old Cayenne S by 0.6 second to 60 and 0.5 second and 5 mph in the quarter. Also new for 2008 is the optional $3510 Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, which consists of a pair of active anti-roll bars meant to counteract body roll. A recent Cayenne Turbo we tested had this system (and summer-only 21-inch tires) and recorded 0.90 g on our skidpad, which seems to pretty well define the limit of what a vehicle this size is capable of. This S model did without the bars had lesser all-season rubber and managed 0.82 g, a figure that is still superb for a 5351-pound sport-ute. If you're a big-league on-ramp bomber really looking to absolutely terrify the wife and kids, though, PDCC might be worth the cash. Inside the Cayenne, not much has changed. Actually, nothing at all has changed beyond the availability of new leather. Our tester did not have that option, and we were unable to evaluate it. So sad. It did, however, have a nav system ($3070), an adjustable air suspension ($2990), and a sunroof ($1190), among other options that pushed our as-tested price past $70,000. You are looking at a gorgeous 2000 Porsche 911 Carrera! 996 Series (1998–2004) After 34 years in production the famous air-cooled 911 was replaced by an all-new water-cooled model. Known as the Type 996, this car was a major leap for Porsche, although many of the traits that defined the 911 during past decades still remained. With the new model there was finally a newly designed bodyshell (all previous 911s being based on the original 1963 shell). As with the 993 before it the 996 was also a significant model, but mainly for the way it was conceived and designed, and the effect it had on Porsche during the 1990s. Pundits criticized the 996's styling a great deal, largely because it shared its headlamps— indeed much of its front end, mechanically— with the less expensive Boxster. The 996 had been on the drawing board first and was a more advanced car in some respects, but the cost-cutting seemed inappropriate for an expensive car. Otherwise, the Pinky Lai-penned shape followed the original Butzi Porsche design very closely; the Carrera model had a 0.30 coefficient of drag. Porsche’s “entry-level” model packs a mid-mounted six-cylinder engine. Styling harks back to the original Porsche 356 of the 1950s and to the seldom-seen 550 Spyder and RS60 models of the past. The Boxster name blends the term used for horizontally opposed engines (“boxers”) with the car’s roadster body. This is a Boxster S with a stronger engine. Boxster rivals include the Audi TT, BMW Z3 and M roadster, Honda S2000 and Mercedes-Benz SLK. The S model Boxsters have a new cloth headliner for the fabric top, to help keep noise levels down. A new three-spoke steering wheel contains a Porsche crest, and new carpeting has been installed in both the front and rear storage compartments. Stabilizer bars mounted behind the headrests gain softer coverings. New LED “interior orientation” lights help the driver locate the ignition switch, door latches and other interior items at night, and they also promise to add a touch of extra elegance to the cockpit. Exterior The front-end appearance is similar to that of the rear-engine 911 coupe and convertible. But farther back, the Boxster has an assertive profile all of its own, based on the mid-engine configuration. The power-operated fabric top has a plastic rear window. A rear spoiler and front and rear fog lights are standard. The S model also has a firmer suspension, bigger brake rotors and a dual exhaust outlet. Cargo compartments at both ends offer a total of 9 cubic feet of space.
