The Silver Dawn, though not as well known as some of the other Rolls models, is a four door sedan that shares the amazing build quality, mechanicals and many of the timeless body lines of the better known models that make Rolls Royce’s stand out from the crowd. The owner of this car passed away in 2007, and the car has sat in climate controlled storage since. We took the car out of storage, and revived her. She received a full service, including FULL REBUILD OF ALL BRAKES, including calipers and pads, all fluids and assorted seals around the car. The car also received a NEW SET OF TIRES. The car runs and drives as would be expected of a 27,000 vehicle. The original Black paint is in very good shape with deep shine and luster, the occasional rock chip being the only flaws. The Tan leather interior is supple and soft throughout, again, as would be expected of a low mileage car. The leather headliner sags slightly, not enough to require repair. All wood and veneers throughout the car are uncracked, well preserved and have great “burl”. All of her mechanical systems work properly and the A/C blows ice cold. The 6.75 Liter V8 puts out great power and torque. The transmission shifts and operates smoothly without any hesitation. The doors lock and the alarm are functional however the power door locks are currently inoperable. The car comes with all books, original window sticker and maintenance records. Rare Factory Installed Rear Entertainment Just Serviced and Inspected Rare Opportunity............................LOW RESERVE Possibly one of the Nicest Available!! Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer possibly one of the nicest 1986 Rolls Royce Silver Spurs available. I am handling the sale of this Rolls Royce, and also a 1959 Bentley R Type for a close lady friend whose husband passed away back in mid 2014. Jim was an English car guy, and loved Jaguars and Rolls Royce's. These folks were long time members of both clubs, and participated with the cars for many years. Jim was also a JCNA Concours Judge!! We were good friends for many years! I will do the best I can do describe them accurately, but my information is limited as to what I have personally learned and observed. I have no long term history or documents. If she finds anything, I will pass it along! I sold them this car back around 2008 or so. It was driven sparingly over the years, due to Jim's illness, and along with the fact that he had several other collector cars that he drove. This one had a major service done in 2009, when ALL of the soft parts(belts, hoses, and seals etc.), along with tune up parts and injectors etc. I am not sure of the mileage that has accrued since then, but it certainly couldn't be many! I retrieved it from the house garage in late September. Our expert mechanic did an oil and filter change, along with a safety inspection, and an A/C service. The tyres were replaced about 3 or 4 years ago, and are still very close to new. It was professionally detailed, and is just Gorgeous!! This is a very nice running and Driving Rolls Royce that is ready for the next lucky owner to enjoy! The photos below will tell the cosmetic story quite well. There is no weather or rust damage, and the everflex top appears to be bump free. the leather is gorgeous as is the wood which has some light cracking present on a few panels, but not all. Notice the rear entertainment system that was installed at the factory when new. Jim had it updated to a modern DVD player!! This rust free vehicle is being sold with all its original, tools, books, manuals, jack, and accessories. The tools, accessories, and Jack have never been used and are actually still in its factory wrappings.I am also including some Walter Matthau Memorabilia, (movie posters, cards, signed card, registration with name and address, CA plates, special address to new owner from Matthau Family) which is all included with the car. Mechanically, it's as sound as can be, motor, transmission and rear axle all function flawlessly and have always been maintained by a certified Rolls Royce dealer. The a/c blows cold and heater works great. The electrical components are also in excellent working order...everything works as it should: Wipers, mirrors, windows, lights, seats, radio etc. The engine is so clean that it didn't even require a wipe down when it was received and it continues to stay that way. The tires installed are Dunlop GT radials with about 1000 miles on them and about 95% tread. One notable feature of this Rolls Royce is the A/C compressor cooling system is equivalent to 11 home refrigerators! CARFAX CERTIFIED, PLEASE ASK FOR A COPY! (Ebay is not including it for some reason) Cosmetically the car has no major dents, dings or scratches. (2 small dings and few little paint chips) The beautiful Metallic Ocean Blue color shines like new. This is the original color of the car and it has always been garaged. There is one small dent in the left rear of the car but is unnoticeable unless pointed out. Additionally there is a light scratch on the right rear fender about the length of a dime. It's possible it may have been repainted in its lifetime but we can not tell from looking at the door jams, trunk, and windows. This is an accident free,100% original car which was received by the Matthau Family in the exact condition as which it sits now. Therefore, the 2 small dings were compliments of Walter himself. The Connoly leather interior is an incredible condition with no rips, cuts, or stains. The leather has been maintained and is soft and supple, however, this is still a 35 year old car so it is not brand new. This was a smoker car as Walter occasionally smoked when he first got the Rolls. There are 5 ash trays, 2 of which are in the front driver and passenger top burlwood door, which is actually really cool because we have never seen ash trays there before. All the ash trays are clean and there is no smell or signs of smoking or burn marks anywhere in the car. The wood trim as shown in the photos is also in pristine condition. ABOUT THE 1981 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SPIRIT MARK 1 SALOON: Rolls Royce unveiled an entirely new modern design for 1980 after a long 16 year run of the previous Silver Shadow. Although not entirely new, the Silver Spur/Spirit featured many new upgrades in the way of technology, electronics, engine management systems, and all around comfort. The familiar and venerable 6.75 litre V8 engine was placed in the new model matted to the GM sourced THM 400 and the companies completely revised self leveling hydraulic rear suspension. The new system was very similar to the previous Silver Shadow’s suspension but Rolls Royce used a Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control system with gas charged shock absorbers making the ride far superior and more reliable than the Silver Shadows. The Silver Spur was the long wheelbase model which sold alongside the short wheelbase Silver Spirit model. The two new cars marked a very important time for Rolls Royce/Bentley, they were to be the platforms of the new models that would come for the next two decades. This luxury ride is powered by the legendary Rolls 6 3/4L Bosch fuel injected V8 running through a GM THM 400 automatic transmission. This car is finished in a beautiful midnight blue paint with matching top and interior. To complete the exterior look the car sports 4 new tires. The best part of this car is the plush interior. Saddle leather wraps the seats door panels. Traditional wood grain adorns the doors dash. This car has all the amenities of a modern car; A/C Satellite Radio, CD, AM/FM cruise control power brakes power steering, power locks, power seats, power windows, leather interior, and radial tires It doesn't matter that this 1981 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit is almost 35 years old, its still a heavy-hitter. Technology may have progressed, but the timeless elegance of a Rolls-Royce is one of the few constants in the automotive world. With hand-stitched leather, burled walnut trim, and effortless performance, there are some things that remain unique despite the passage of time. The controls have a serious heft to them, and the heavy chrome switches and knobs should be a course of study for any automotive interior designer. A mini console has the controls for the power bucket seats and windows, with everything else neatly grouped in front of the driver. Rolls-Royce used their own six-and-three-quarter litre V8 and gave it adequate horsepower to move this Steal Horse. The result is almost electric-motor smoothness and performance that is, well, adequate. It whispers along at highway speeds and is happy to idle in traffic while occupants are blissfully unaware of the cacophony outside. The automatic transmission is silky smooth and the all-independent suspension offers comfort and reasonable handling. Beyond adequate power comes from the Rolls-Royce produced 412 cubic-inch 90 degree V8 with Fuel-injection. The engine crankcase emission control system utilizes a single catalytic converter. From the catalytic converter back the system reverts to dual-exhaust with four silencer boxes (mufflers). Its low North American specification 8.0:1 compression ratio lends to a long service life. Crewe built Rolls-Royce Silver Spurs featured a General Motors Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission manufactured to Rolls-Royce specifications, and blueprinted by Rolls-Royce. The 2.5:1 first-gear ratio with a specially designed torque-converter is unique to Rolls-Royce. The body of the car is straight and the paint lustrous. It does have a few minor little chips and marks but there are few. Otherwise it is very shiny without any fading, dents or dings. It presents beautifully without any signs of significant wear. The wood on the dash and doors are close to perfect. Bigger than just about anything else on the road, and powered by Rolls' superlative six-and-a-half litre V8, it was the last of the hand-built icons of the automotive industry. With only 35k lightly driven miles, this Rolls is set to impress for decades to come. The long-wheelbase Silver Spur II was the top-of-the-line for what is unquestionably the top-of-the-line auto manufacturer. Stretching nearly 20 feet long, it's understated yet imposing, like The Rock in a pinstripe suit. Fit and finish are great despite it being 25 years old, and nothing in the automotive world feels like one of these big, heavily-insulated doors slamming closed. All automotive paint is shiny, but the deep hand-rubbed finish on this one is something else entirely, as if it was conjured out of thin air right onto the surface. Sure, it's got a few signs of age upon closer examination, but on a car that originally cost the equivalent of a quarter-million bucks, you definitely got your money's worth on the paint job. Then there's the chrome, which is so deep and rich that it almost feels cold to the touch, and nothing clears traffic like that big Rolls-Royce grille and Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, which was gold-plated to pop that much more. "Impressive" isn't an impressive enough word for what this car is. The seats feel like nothing you've ever experienced, at once soft and supportive and wrapped in fragrant leather hides that were bred for royalty. There's a bit of wear on the driver's seat, but the rest of the buttery-soft leather with contrasting red piping is still fit for show. Dark red Wilton Wool carpets are insanely plush and yes, that's real wood on the dash and door panels, hand-crafted by a guy who's been doing it his entire life. It received all the proper accoutrements for the periods, including A/C, cruise control, power windows and locks, power seats, and fingertip-light power steering. There's also a decent stereo system with an AM/FM/CD/cassette system, which was top-of-the-line in 1991 and sounds amazing in the nearly silent Rolls-Royce interior. And as a full-sized luxury car, rear seat space rivals a New York City apartment, and it's impossible to not feel like royalty sitting back there. Even the "boot" is beautifully outfitted in matching red carpet that's as beautifully stitched as carpet you've ever seen. Rolls-Royce never gave horsepower figures on their engines, but the big 6.75-liter V8 pulls like a steam locomotive and delivers astounding smoothness. Bosch fuel injection makes it reliable, too, and while saving one without proper service can be expensive, keeping it in top shape is quite reasonable if you have a good tech by your side. This one only has 35,245 miles on it, so it shouldn't come as a shock to learn that everything works and it drives superbly. Fuel economy stinks, of course, but this is a Rolls-Royce and you shouldn't care about such things anyway. GM supplied the TH400 3-speed automatic gearbox, and the fully independent suspension rides like a hovercraft over broken pavement. Even the 4-wheel disc brakes are race-car sized and deliver impressive performance that's never abrupt and the dual exhaust system is efficient but never makes more than a powerful-sounding murmur. Recent whitewall radials on the original wheels maintain the subtle look and you'll note that even the hubcaps are pinstriped to match the interior. For the price of a Honda, you could be driving this incredible Rolls-Royce. With recent service records and an original window sticker ($171k brand new!), this is a nicely preserved example. Nobody will check the production date and nobody will care about anything other than the famous grille and Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament. And with those features so prominently displayed, nobody will realize that they could own this A-list Roller for the price of a garden-variety Chevy Malibu. Rolls-Royce is a company dictated by tradition, which was why styling changes so seldom. As a result, the cars always look big and impressive with a presence that no other manufacturer has ever been able to match. And clad in black, driving this car is like wearing an Armani suit everywhere you go. Fit and finish are, of course, extremely good with the paint showing a few signs of age but still worthy of the finest motorcar in the world. A black Everflex top (which is a very British way of saying "vinyl") adds an air of formality to the big Silver Spur and improves the already impressive levels of quiet inside. The chrome is of a quality that most motorists have never seen before, and even after several decades it shows a brilliant luster and depth that befits a car that originally cost more than an average American home. Euro-style headlights were one of the few visible signs that Rolls-Royce was adapting to changing styles and technology, but they look great flanking the German Silver grille. Acres of tan leather are really the reason you buy a Rolls-Royce. No other car in the world can offer this one's combination of natural materials and meticulous hand assembly. The seats in particular look spectacular, with virtually zero wear on any of the seating surfaces, including the driver's. That's real burled walnut on the dash, a single piece of wood perfectly cut, polished, and varnished like a fine piece of furniture, and the carpets are wool, not some synthetic fiber. There's an impressive array of instrumentation and switchgear, all of it designed to be satisfying to the eye and the fingertip, and even though it was built in 1988, there's not much plastic outside of the Delco-sourced AM/FM/cassette stereo which is to be expected (Rolls-Royce wasn't in the radio-building business, after all). The rear compartment is as decadent as you'd expect, with limousine-like legroom and a full bar behind the front seats complete with crystal decanters and glasses. The massive boot is superbly finished and quite cavernous, so no need to pack light for road trips. Rolls-Royce's "six-and-three-quarter" litre V8 is smooth and torquey, moving the big sedan with the fluid ease of a master butler. With appropriate maintenance, these are quite reliable machines and paired with a GM 3-speed automatic transmission, it's no more expensive to own and operate than any other luxury machine. Suspension, exhaust, brakes, and other mechanical components are all carefully engineered to be unobtrusive yet supremely competent and the hushed V8 tones of the exhaust system whisper with power and distinction. Subtle hubcaps and 235/70/15 Michelin whitewall radials belie the car's stature, but that's entirely the point-no need to show off, my good sir! We won't tell anyone how affordable this Rolls-Royce is and you can merely let them speculate at the rich and famous who might be riding with you.
