Accidents/Straight Chassis and Body The Shelby GT350s certainly need no introduction. Their history is very well recorded throughout the Internet. Finding exceptional examples with great documentation for sale outside of the premier auction setting is becoming more rare. The owner of this 350 wanted the next owner to find the car similar to how he found it 30-years ago. Horn-Williams Motor Company of Dallas, Texas specifically ordered this GT350 for the first owner. This was very unusual and rare as most of these cars were ordered by the dealer with no specific buyer in mind. The original invoice included the following factory options: Ten spoke aluminum wheels Rear seats Automatic transmission The total MSRP was $3,840.25 The first owner took delivery on February 10th, 1966. On March 30th, 1966 with 1,091 miles, this owner took the car back the dealer to have a rocker arm and push rod replaced. After that, the car changed hands a couple of times without being driven much. On November 3rd, 1985, the current owner purchased this Shelby. He had been looking for an original example for some time until one day, a friend who worked at a Dallas Ford parts department called him to let him know there was one available in Austin for $15,000. With a loan from his mother, he was able to buy it. For the next 29-years, this owner had an interesting relationship with the car. It traded between three of his closest friends. They all lived in the same area. In 2006, after regretting selling it the first time, the current owner bought the car back and began the mechanical restoration. Everything mechanical was removed and disassembled. The engine was completely rebuilt using the correct pistons, rings, and cylinders. The correct carburetor was sourced and rebuilt. Because the original automatic transmission had been replaced with a 4-speed, the original automatic transmission was carefully rebuilt and installed. The underside and suspension were restored back to the original factory specifications. In 2012, he began the cosmetic restoration. The LeMans stripes he had added in the 80’s were removed and the entire car was repainted. The seats were recovered and the door panels were replaced. The dash, gauges, and radio are original. Howard Pardee (Registrar of the SAAC) was instrumental in helping source NOS (new old stock) parts as well as the right people to rebuild the original parts. The goal of the restoration was to keep the car as true to the day it rolled out of Carroll Shelby’s operation in Los Angeles, CA. The car was finished with all the correct and original equipment including the fiberglass/steel hood, over-ride traction bars, Koni shocks, 10-spoke aluminum wheels, and hollow-letter covers. The end result was spectacular. The car looks, feels, and drives like new. The paint/body fit and finish is superb. The gaps are very even and the doors shut with very little effort. The windshield and glass is still original. The bright work appears to be original and unrestored. It is in excellent condition with just some light oxidation on the rear bumper…certainly a testament to its potentially low miles. The correct Goodyear tires look great on the original 10-spoke aluminum 14” wheels. The interior is equally as nice. There is a good blend of original unrestored parts as well as fresh upholstered front seats and door cards. All the lights (interior and exterior) work properly as do all the gauges. The underside is very impressive. The correct blend of factory primer with white and black overspray is evident. The owner showed restraint in not simply powder coating every thing but instead, doing it correctly. Cosmetically, this car certainly is ready to compete at the highest concours levels if one so desires. Words do not describe the driving impressions. It is probably as close as many of us can get to driving a new GT350 in 1966. It feels like a time warp. Everything is tight and responsive. It operates like a brand new car. There is no drama. It starts, stops, and turns easily. The exhaust note sounds terrific. This GT 350 comes the original spare wheel, original owner’s manual (looks like new), original window sticker, original dealer order form, and SAAC membership documentation/verification. It has been well cared for and is an absolute blast to drive. If you don't know what sets the KR apart from the regular GT500, read on. The 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, KR for "King of the Road", celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original 1968 Shelby GT500KR. It starts off as a Mustang GT500 that is shipped to Shelby's facility near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where they install many of the KR-specific parts. The KR includes forged wheels, a ride height that's 0.79 inch lower in front and 0.6 inch lower in the rear. But one thing that really stands out on the KR's is its ducted and vented hood, which funnels air into a Ford Racing air filter. The GT500KR's hood, which is constructed of carbon fiber, is made by the same supplier of lightweight yet durable parts for the Corvette ZR1 and Dodge Viper ACR. The KR also gets revised engine calibration with more aggressive spark mapping and a less restrictive exhaust that sound fantastic, as you would expect from a muscle car of this caliber. These changes create an additional 40 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque over the GT500's supercharged 5.4-liter V8, giving the KR 540 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. A shorter 3.73:1 final drive and short-throw shift linkage round out the upgrades to the powertrain. There were only 1011 2008 KR's produced, including the prototypes, and this is one of only 476 that came in Silver Metallic with vista blue stripes.This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.
