Vehicle Description This has to be one of the rarest Shelby GT500 Supersnake Prudhomme Drag Cars built. Only 6 in the entire exsistance of Shleby's were built and this car has never been driven on the track and is at miles when new. Important Notation: From 65-67 Carroll Shelby had Ford deliver him mustangs for his modifications. 68-69 Ford moved Shelby production to Michigan assembly line with minimal Shelby involvement. As a result the 65-67 cars are worth more. Today the customer buys the mustang and delivers it the Shelby for the mods. That was true until a couple years ago now Shelby sends customer to Shelby licensed mod shops and dealers. Shelby does very few mods in house anymore. That may change with new Shelby president Gary who is true car guy. What all this may mean for values is that the new 2015-16 GT 350s are Ford mustangs badged by Ford with the Shelby name. Just like a 2008 GT 500. So 2008 super snakes are worth much more then a GT 500. Most Shelby purists consider a car that is hand built at Shelby factory to have most appreciation potential. As opposed to cars where Ford bought the rights to the Shelby name and affixed it to their mustang. In other words the argument is that "real" Shelbys are built at Shelby factory and less real or faux Shelbys are badged by Ford similar to 68-69 Shelby mustangs, 2015-16 GT 350s. The Prudhomme Edition Mustang drag snake is different than any high-performance Mustang you've ever seen. It is surely a Shelby GT500 Super Snake with features that place it in a league all by itself. For the post-title Prudhomme Edition, the entire front end tilts forward like a race car for easy engine access. And who can miss the dragster-style hood scoop that crams fresh air into the Kenne Bell-blown 5.4L powerplant. With race fuel, the engine produces 800hp, making it the most powerful Shelby (or even Mustang) available today. In street tune, meaning 93-octane fuel, the Prudhomme Super Snake puts out a still-whopping 750hp. Other equipment is also added to make the Prudhomme Super Snake ready for the quarter-mile. For hard launches, adjustable BMR front and rear suspension components are added, along with rear drag slicks (street tires are optional) on custom Bogart wheels. The Prudhomme Edition Super Snake is offered for all '07-up Shelby GT500s. All you have to do is get your GT500 to Shelby Automobile's facilities in Las Vegas or buy a new one from inventory. The package doesn't come cheap; list price is $99,995 for the conversion on a titled GT500 or $149,995 for car and conversion. But for the money, you get an exclusive Shelby and the most powerful Mustang on the road. Shelby And "The Snake" Most Mustang and Shelby enthusiasts are unaware of Carroll Shelby and Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's long-time friendship and racing association. In fact, during the late 1960s, Shelby sponsored Prudhomme's 427 Cammer-powered dragster. It was called the "Super Snake," no doubt a double reference to Prudhomme's nickname and Shelby's reputation for building fast Cobras. When the NHRA was getting started, Don Prudhomme was growing up in the San Fernando Valley, destined for drag racing stardom. Like NHRA founder Wally Parks, Prudhomme had a passion for speed. In 1962, Prudhomme got his first big break in Top Fuel with victories at Bakersfield, California. These coupes have the rare distinction of being the first year for the big block, and the last year to be built in California. This one is a well-known vehicle that you can view as car #2802 in the Shelby Registry. Carroll Shelby turned a handful of Mustang fastbacks into a something that was distinctly all his own. There's just no mistaking the Shelby look. The custom fiberglass hood; the functional side scoops; the molded rear deck lid; and the sequential taillights - it all makes an impressive statement. We have the receipts to show that in 2009 this car went through an $85,000+ restoration to make sure this one stayed at the top of its game. Nothing is out of place, the Lime Gold paint is pristine, and the panel gaps are concours-worthy. It's even wearing the expensive, and correct, Goodyear Speedway small letter tires. Remember, 1967 was the last year these 1st generation Mustangs were transformed at the Shelby's own California factory, after that these were coming out of Michigan. So this car really does have an unbeatable race-inspired pedigree. The black bucket seat interior is clean and pristine, including the seat covers, door panels, and dash pad. Basically this one feels factory correct right down to the floormats. It wouldn't feel like a proper first-year GT500 without features like the woodgrained three-spoke steering wheel, roll bar, full harnesses, and full gauge cluster, including the oil pressure and alternator readouts below the AM radio. Check out the included Marti report, everything is as it should be right down to the folding rear seat. Under the hood is exactly what you want to see. This is Ford's big 428 cubic-inch V8 borrowed from the Police Interceptor package. This is believed to be the original motor from Shelby, and it still carries all the great Cobra pieces on the fined air cleaner and valve covers. This engine has not been overly dressed like some chrome king GT500s out there, instead this is dressed to impress with its originality. This level of factory spec also means this motor is carrying the correct aluminum intake manifold topped with dual inline Holley 600 CFM four-barrel carburetors. 355 horsepower? Yeah, we all knew that factory rating was a joke. The GT500 was a great car on the road thanks to a beefed up version of the Mustang's GT package, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for this car. It might be concours-worthy, but you don't have to be afraid to drive it anywhere because it's very easy to maneuver with power steering, front disc brakes, and the factory-optioned C6 three-speed automatic transmission. This is the ultimate snake-bitten Mustang, and it has all the right history, documentation, and presentation to be an award-winner. So of course we wish we had that rare gem today, but then again, this near perfect tribute is about as close as you can get to have some Nicholas Cage style fun. This car has all the great lines of the original Mustang, but there is no mistaking it for any secretary's car. The customization is apparent from every angle with a body kit by Unique Performance. It starts up front with the dual billet grilles that that make way for a new front bumper and racing lights. And speaking of lights, this also gets a custom set of fog lights and cool-blue driving lamps mounted in specially built front panel. The hood pins look like they were necessary to tame this beastly bulging hood (and we'll tell you exactly why they're needed a little later). The laser straight bodylines even have room to integrate the side exhaust pipes. Out back the flat rear panel and bumper have been de-chromed in true racer fashion. But even without this brightwork, Eleanor shines in many other ways. The superb silver paint with dual black racing stripes has enough gloss to be a mirror. Plus, the shine from 20-inch Boss wheels is enough chrome to grab everyone's attention. Take one look at the interior and you know Eleanor is a serious gal. Your seating is a set of Sparco racing buckets with a matching set of four-point harnesses. The three-spoke steering wheel has the old-school wood grain appearance, but with an upgrade for better grip. Behind it are new Pro-comp gauges that take the place of the original GT readouts. Eleanor might be a mean machine, but she also knows how to pamper (although you may not know it by the "GO BABY GO" text around the nitrous button on the shift knob). This is a power steering car with ice cold air conditioning, and power windows set in a custom center console. There's a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo system that's iPod compatible. While the original 1967 Shelby GT500s had a 427 cubic-inch engine, this super-snake has been super-sized with a 460 V8. Of course the upgrades don't stop there. This one is running an Edelbrock 650cfm double-pump carburetor and Performer intake. The inner workings of the engine have been fully rebuilt, including competition-style aluminum heads, new pistons, rings, rods, roller rocker arms, valves, and timing chain. Keeping the vital fluids flowing is a Holley electric water pump, single stage dry-sump oil pump, and a Be Cool aluminum radiator with electric fan. But out of all these performance upgrades, there is one that's the most obvious. Of course, we're talking about that NOS bottle that is in plain view of the back window. It's clearly visible to intimidate everyone, but that's just where the fun begins. The car is already wired with a missile-style safety switch for arming the gas bottle, and blast-off is via the red button on the stick shift just like in the movie! There's a five-speed manual transmission to make sure there are enough gears to keep up with a motor that can outrun everyone. Plus, this has a stout 9-inch Ford rear end that won't let you down. Traction is excellent with four-wheel disc brakes and the original 17-inch Cobra style wheels, but you can also elect to install the super sticky 20-inch Toyo Proxes 4 tires included in the later pictures instead. Let’s reminisce…in New York, Shelby launches the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500KR, a special-edition GT500 commemorating the 40th anniversary of the original “King of the Road.” The GT500KR is the second product after the GT500 to wear the almost-defunct SVT badge, reminding us that Ford still claims it has a performance division. In 1967, the New York auto show played host to the launch of the original GT500KR, a version of the Shelby Mustang powered by a 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet V-8 rated at 335 horsepower. With the ’08 model’s supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 under hood wearing a Ford Racing Power Upgrade Pack, the 2008 KR outdoes its predecessor by 205 horsepower—a margin greater than the entire output of some V-8 Mustangs of the 1980s—with 540. That herd travels rearward through a six-speed manual with a short-throw shifter to a shorter 3.73:1 rear end. Beyond the yawning hood vents and racing stripes already in place on lesser GT500s, the GT500KR gets the signature hood, reminiscent of the original KR, in carbon fiber with two forward-looking mail slots at the leading edge of the hood feeding the blown 5.4’s appetite for air and twist-down hood pins for a more secure racer flair. Now when these KR’s were sold, dealers got big profits well over the MSRP sticker price. In fact Mr.Hagley paid $100,000.+ taxes for this beauty. The GT 500 was added to the lineup, equipped with the 428 Police Interceptor. These later cars carried over few of the performance modifications of the 1965-66 GT350s, although they did feature more cosmetic changes. In September 1967, production was moved to the A.O. Smith Company of Ionia, Michigan, under Ford control. Shelby American had substantially less involvement after this time. One 1967 Fastback was built as the "Super Snake" - a GT-500 equipped with a 427 FE engine producing over 500 horsepower. The car was capable of speeds over 150 mph; hitting 170 mph during a demonstration (by Shelby himself) of Goodyear's Thunderbolt tires. No cars other than the prototype were built due to limited interest. The car sold at Mecum's 2013 Indianapolis auction for $1.3 million USD. Any claims or other communication regarding shipment of vehicles will be between you and the "Carrier" and not with us. The amount of time it takes for delivery depends upon the "Carrier" selected. A typical experience is 7-14 days from the date the vehicle is picked up from our facility until it is delivered to your destination. Verify with the "Carrier" for an Estimated Time of Arrival to be sure. Fee and Tax Information: New York buyers will be charged sales tax and licensing and processed on your behalf. Out of state buyers (including other countries), we will send title and you will be responsible for registration and taxes in your own state or providence. A non-refundable deposit of $2,000 is due within 24 hours of the auction close. The remaining balance is due within 7 days of the close of auction, unless other arrangements were made. Accepted payment methods are bank wire transfers, cashier's checks and money orders. If you wish to obtain financing, please do so ahead of time.
