Finally, I do drive the vehicle somewhat, so mileage may increase slightly.There are just a few things that make Smart cdi's unique and one of only about 120 or so here in the United States. It is powered by a Mercedes engineered turbo diesel that is well known for lasting hundreds of thousands of miles. This euro-spec version has been in production since 1998 and has been proven dependable. I can easily achieve 50 to 60 mpg and hits speeds of 75+ comfortably on the freeways. The transmission is an Automatic or Tiptronic (no clutch) manual sometimes called "slap stick"). And finally, unlike the 2nd generation US models, it also has 6 speeds instead of the 5. Many questions always come up regarding servicing the car. An online manual is available from the website "Evilution", but just Google it. There are just a few things that make Smart cdi's unique and one of only about 100 or so here in the United States. It is powered by a Mercedes engineered turbo diesel that is well known for lasting hundreds of thousands of miles. This euro-spec version has been in production since 1998 and has been proven dependable. I can easily achieve 50 to 60 mpg and hits speeds of 75+ comfortably on the freeways. The transmission is a Tiptronic (no clutch manual or sometimes called "slap stick"). And finally, unlike the 2nd generation US models, it also has 6 speeds instead of the 5.
