Introduction The second-generation XL7 is the largest SUV Suzuki has ever produced, dipping generously into partner GM's parts bin to create a mostly unique end product. Under the skin is a stretched platform shared with the Chevy Equinox and Pontiac Torrent twins, but the XL7 boasts its own distinctive styling and a 3.6-liter V6 engine designed by General Motors, but built by Suzuki in Japan. The base XL7 provides more maximum cargo capacity than a Honda Pilot at a price that rivals the Honda CR-V. Other trims offer a fold-flat third-row seat that provides enough room for children and maintains the ample storage capacity. But if price seems to be a running theme, that's no mistake. Considering that the 2008 Suzuki XL7 is priced similar to compact crossovers like the Toyota RAV4, the Suzuki's quality difference versus the big boys isn't large enough to completely disregard the significant discount it provides. Whether you're buying a 3-liter tub of Kirkland cashews or a $26,000 SUV, value is difficult to ignore. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2008 Suzuki XL7 is a midsize crossover SUV available in four trim levels: base, Premium, Luxury and Limited. All base models come with seating for five passengers, while the Limited has a fold-flat third-row seat that expands room to seven. The Premium and Luxury trims can be had with either five or seven seats. The base trim comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, tinted windows, auto on/off headlamps, full power accessories, a tilt steering wheel, cruise control, automatic climate control, trip computer and a six-speaker stereo with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack. The Premium trim is similar, but adds 17-inch wheels, floor mats and available faux wood trim. The Luxury trim comes standard with leather upholstery, a power driver seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof and an in-dash six-CD changer. The Premium and Luxury trim's third-row seat option includes rear-seat climate control. Powertrains and Performance The 2008 XL7 features a 3.6-liter V6 that delivers 252 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. It is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. All trim levels are available with all-wheel drive except the base model, which is front-drive only. In performance testing a FWD XL7 went to 60 mph in a tidy 8.2 seconds. Fuel economy estimates for 2008 are 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway for front-wheel-drive models, while all-wheel-drive versions rate practically the same, dropping the city rating by only 1 mpg. These figures are on par with other vehicles in the class. Safety The 2008 Suzuki XL7 comes standard with full-length side curtain airbags, antilock brakes, stability control and traction control. It has performed well in government crash testing where it scored a perfect five stars in all frontal and side crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the XL7 its highest possible rating of "Good" in its frontal offset crash test. Interior Design and Special Features The second-generation XL7 is the largest, most comfortable SUV Suzuki has ever built. The interior is spacious and functional, but the fit and finish of some interior pieces is a bit iffy. Also, we can live without the widely spaced window switches on the central console. When it comes to head- and legroom, the XL7 is very roomy. Shoulder room, though, is narrower than that of most other midsize crossovers. The 60/40-split-folding middle-row seats tumble and fold, and the optional 50/50-split third-row seat can be folded flat into the floor for additional cargo-carrying room. Also, a fold-flat front passenger seat enables the XL7 to carry longer items with ease. With the rear seats lowered, the SUV has an impressive maximum cargo capacity of 95.2 cubic feet. Driving Impressions The 2008 Suzuki XL7's V6 engine provides power and fuel economy on par with some of the big names in this increasingly competitive segment. As a result, the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara offers features, styling and build quality similar to the leading compact SUVs, and lends further value with a competitive price and lengthy seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara offers a lot of desirable standard features: V6 power, stability control, antilock brakes, heated outside mirrors, steering-wheel-mounted audio/cruise controls and remote keyless entry. Despite adding several thousand dollars to the cost, we think an optioned-up or top-of-the-line Suzuki Grand Vitara still offers an attractive value when compared with other competitors -- fully loaded or not. The interior of the reworked Grand Vitara sport-utility is outfitted and executed like no other Suzuki before, incorporating stylish, flowing dash textures and gauges housed in an attractive clustered array trimmed in simulated aluminum like the center stack. The seats are comfortable for long drives, and we actually prefer the comfy cloth fabric to the available soft leather. The new 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara represents a quantum leap forward compared with the previous truck-based version. Overall, it's a well-equipped compact SUV that's high on value, and it should appeal to shoppers interested in a smaller SUV that can handle the occasional off-road excursion. We like the fact that it comes standard with a powerful V6, making it a strong competitor to one of this segment's top vehicles, the Toyota RAV4. Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The Suzuki Grand Vitara is a five-passenger compact SUV offered in three trim levels: base, XSport and Luxury. Base models come well-equipped with an extensive list of features like automatic climate control, cruise control, remote keyless entry, fully power accessories and an MP3/CD stereo with steering-wheel controls. Powertrains and Performance The Suzuki Grand Vitara is powered by a 2.7-liter V6 delivering 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and our favorite to drive. A five-speed automatic is optional and standard on the Grand Vitara XSport and Luxury. For each trim, rear-wheel or four-wheel drive are offered. The latter has low-range capability and a neutral setting that allows flat-towing behind other vehicles without odometer mileage accumulation, which should please those with RVs. Fuel economy estimates are a little below average for this class of vehicle. Expect a 0-60-mph time of about 9.4 seconds. Safety Standard safety features on the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara are extensive and advanced for a low-cost compact vehicle, providing confidence-inspiring protection through electronic stability control, antilock disc brakes, full-length side-curtain airbags and front seat side-impact airbags. A tire-pressure monitor is a new addition this year as well. In NHTSA crash tests, Suzuki's SUV earned four stars (out of a possible top score of five) for its protection of front occupants in head-on collisions. Side-impact tests resulted in a perfect five-star rating. Interior Design and Special Features Since its redesign, we think the Grand Vitara's interior is one of the best executed we've seen in any Suzuki -- and competes rather well with the compact SUV class leaders. The dash incorporates soft textures and flowing lines, with gauges housed in a multilayered cluster with simulated aluminum trim. Interior storage compartments are great. With the rear seats up, luggage capacity is more than adequate, but folding the rear seat down opens up a huge and competitive 69 cubic feet of cargo room. Driving Impressions The 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara rides on a frame-reinforced unibody platform. This, along with rear-wheel drive gives the Vitara respectable off-road prowess when tackling rutted trails and steep dirt roads. It's also smoother and more carlike in its handling when compared to other full-frame, truck-based SUVs. In road tests our editors report that the cabin remains generally quiet at highway speeds. Upon completion of the financial elements of the transaction (you paying us), we encourage you to insure the vehicle from that date forward. We bear NO RESPONSIBILITY for anything that happens to your vehicle once it is out of our control. Vehicles left at our facility for more than 3 days after payment will not be covered by our insurance unless previous arrangements have been made in writing prior to payment. WarrantyBalance of Factory WarrantyWe estimate factory warranty expiration dates using vehicle production dates and Carfax information. We are not responsible for factory warranty expiration dates, remaining warranty time, type, validity, or other information. If you want to be certain of the exact warranty expiration date, terms, validity, etc., please verify this information with a certified franchise dealer of the applicable car make. In the course of business, we try to match our risk with areas where we have control over our service level. We hope you understand this. TermsPayment Types:Certified Funds and Institutional FinancingFees:Our auctions have no hidden fees. All in State vehicles are subject to a $112 Documentary fee and out of State vehicles are subject to a $133 Documentary fee. This fee covers the paperwork involved in transferring a vehicle into your name. It applies to dealers, wholesalers, international transactions, priests, you get the gist. We also offer a 30 day transit tag for buyers from outside of PA. This tag is available at a cost to you of $55 and we will need a valid insurance card and driver's license to issue this tag. The last optional service is a Vehicle Prep Package. We offer a Deluxe Detail for $185 which includes the vehicle to be detailed professionally and a full tank of premium fuel when you pick it up (vehicles over 25 gallons may not apply). This may sound odd to you, but we often ship cars, in which case they are sent with very little fuel at the request of the shipping company. Terms:We require a $500 non-refundable deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of auctions close. This will hold the car for you and you exclusively for up to 7 days while you gather your funds or finalize your financing. We will refuse any other offers on the vehicle and will begin preparing the vehicle and documents for your delivery. Any financing arrangements are strictly between you and the lender and do not impact your contract to purchase the vehicle. The deposit is not refundable if you change your mind or if you cannot obtain financing on the vehicle. Should you need us to hold the car beyond the week, we ask for a deposit of $500 for every $10,000 of vehicle value. This will protect you as well as us. This deposit is the only liquidated damages you would be expected to forfeit should you fail to follow through with our contract to purchase the vehicle. Car Connections USA, Inc and its employees, directors and managers bear no resposibility for delays in shipping, damage to or loss of the vehicle once it is in the shippers control or any other liability related to the shipment of your vehicle. When the shipper picks the vehicle up at our facility, we will review the condition of the vehicle with the driver and will sign a Bill of Lading describing any deficiencies or cosmetic blemishes noted during our walkaround. Many shippers try to protect their liability by marking the Bill of Lading as though the car has hundreds of imperfections. We will not allow this to happen. We encourage you to examine the vehicle closely upon its arrival and to take up any concerns about damage or cosmetic imperfections at the time of arrival BEFORE SIGNING THE BILL OF LADING. Once you sign the Bill of Lading, the shipper is realeased from liability and you are on your own. Should you find surprise damage and see that it is on the Bill of Lading, please contact us promptly and email us the Bill of Lading. We will compare it to our copy and notify you of any discrepancies. Some shippers damage a vehicle and simply document the damage on the Bill of Lading as though it existed at the time they picked it up. We describe our vehicles and find it VERY unlikely that you would find a surprise upon arrival. About Us Car Connections USA, Inc was founded in 2005 by Dave Coughlin.
