This 1971 Volkswagen Beetle convertible is in exactly the right condition to enjoy, fully sorted but seasoned enough that you can just jump in and go whenever the urge grabs you. In addition to the Beetle's already sunny disposition, the flashy red finish adds a bright attitude that makes you want to jump in and find a beach. The color was one of the more popular choices on the VW charts in 1971, so it looks right and if you're going to enjoy a vintage Bug, why not make it an eye-catcher? The other classic VW details are completely intact, however, including the chrome bumpers (which appear to be original), running boards, and interesting marker lights built into the front bumper, a feature we haven't seen before. This one also carries the desirable small taillights, fender marker lights, and a pair of side mirrors that make it easy to maneuver in today's traffic. Speaking of inside, it's been upgraded with a set of later bucket seats that give it an upscale feel that completely disguises the VW's utilitarian origins (especially since that by 1971, the VW Beetle convertible was no longer a bargain-priced beater). Matching black two-tone door panels offer a clever map pocket and a retro-looking pull handle that should look and feel familiar to anyone who has driven a Bug before. The original wheel is nice and big for the non-assisted steering, framing the single large round speedometer that also houses the fuel gauge. The entertainment system consists of a slightly newer AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit and a set of speakers in the custom kick panels. There's a very nice black vinyl convertible top and the forward trunk is upholstered in black carpets and includes a spare tire underneath. Power comes from the typical VW flat four, whose characteristic sound has been a part of the automotive landscape for more than three-quarters of a century. The engine bay is quite tidy with none of the usual aftermarket hop-up parts, just careful maintenance of a very clean southern VW. All the heater and ventilation ducts are in place, which is critical not only to passenger comfort but to keeping the air-cooled motor nice and healthy, and even the original air cleaner lives up top. The original floor pan is solid and this Bug is quite nicely preserved. A 4-speed manual transmission is, of course, the transmission of choice, and it wears a set of very handsome white Minilite-style wheels with properly sized blackwall radials. Hello ! Up for sale today is a Very Cool 1963 VW Bug Convertible Classic ! I am listing this for a friend who is downsizing. He will have many more cars up for sale soon. It is Burgundy with a Gray interior. It starts right up and runs great. The lights and gauges function as well. The top is in excellent shape and so is the interior. The chrome is driver quality but goes well with the nice patina that the paint has. I would say the paint is a 20 footer. It has some scratches and nicks but you don't really see them until you get close to it. The glass looks good. All the windows roll up and down. The top folds down with no problems. The body looks like it is mostly solid but if you look underneath it looks like the floor pans have had work. This VW in is great shape for being over 50 years old and it really goes down the road nice. It is a vehicle you can enjoy and put to use as well. This VW is sold AS-IS. Overseas buyers are welcome. What makes this Beetle so unique is its history. This wasn't just another Beetle that was patched together during its restoration because of a leaky battery or rusted panels. This Bug came from California where the floors are original and rot free. The title even shows that the previous state of ownership was California. So to break it down, someone decided to restore a completely solid VW Beetle rather than patching one together. These cars are becoming harder to find and more valuable especially one in this condition and convertible. I encourage everyone to read through the entire ad even though its lengthy. I want you as the buyer to know exactly what you are getting. There won't be anything hidden so i'm here to reveal the flaws and the lengthy list of wonderful things this bug has to offer. I've included 24 pictures to help tell the story, due to eBay restricting me from adding more than 24 pictures I've included a link to a photobucket which has an additional 32 pictures of the car. Anyways, more about this one of a kind bug. Lets start with the basics... Original floors and panels (no fiberglass panels that don't fit right), original German made seat belts, crack free dash, all lights works, all gauges work, fan blows as it should, new speakers, stereo works, transmission shifts smooth, clutch works properly, doesn't leak any fluid, seat sliders, brand new tires, original nice rims, rip and tear free seats, very nice carpet and floor mats, original steering wheel, new carpet in the trunk, all the seals are good around the windshield frame and windows, spare tire, all wiring is clean and ran the proper way rather than done by an amateur, solid frame rails, and so much more which can be seen from the pictures. Little more about the history of this restoration. I have documented pictures of the restoration which was done back in 1999/2000. Yes, that was 15 years ago but when it is done right and properly stored it looks like what it does in the pictures. The pictures show a detailed process of the restoration. Clearly no expenses were spared during the process. The mileage on the odometer shows 20,663 which is almost impossible to tell if it is actual or not. However, you can tell from looking at the VW that its very likely that its original miles. The top is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. This is a original replacement top not a cheap $125 top. This has the insulation in between that is clean and intact and has a headliner. Most replacement tops are just the top alone. This is just an example of how they didn't do a cheap a job with the restoration. The engine is a 1600 cc that runs and drives great with a really nice exhaust system. Exhaust system was replaced last year and is honestly the best sounding beetle i've ever heard. Has VW exhaust manifolds which is shown in the pictures. The trunk and hood was lined with a very nice rhino liner type of material. It meshes very well with the paint and looks really professional. . Again i'm here to describe this vehicle the best I can. Available as a couple or convertible, the convertibles were the most desirable and produced in the most limited numbers. These cars were equipped with rosewood finish dash panels, simulated leather padded four spoke sports steering wheel, adjustable sports seats with special Nut Brown leatherette and corduroy upholstery, matching door and side panels, and loop pile carpet. It's an outstanding example that has been restored to the highest quality. Everything on this car is exceptional from the paint, to the rubber seals, to the chrome. It has the optional bright steel wheels that are exceptional with no blemishes. Fitted to the wheels are Kumo tires that are in outstanding condition. While the exterior does show some petina, its overall in outstanding condition and shows exceptionally well. The Convertible top is close to perfect as well. Inside the brown leatherette seats are excellent. All of the operating controls on them work so they can be adjusted in any position. The door panels, carpets, and dash are all of the highest quality. There are no cracks anywhere and are close to perfect. The same for the headliner. We dont know how old the top is, but we can say its also close to perfect. Overall everything is extremely impressive on this Sun Bug. All of the operating controls work as they should. The clutch is perfect with no slippage and the gear box is tight. All of the fan controls work as does the horn, lights, and AM radio. Driving this Super Beetle is a thrill. Although, not a quick thrill! It fires right up, idels smoothly and is a ton of fun. In driving the car for our pictures, we were stopped everywhere with onlookers asking questions. We have seen many Beetles. Several times we attempted to buy them but they werent in the condition that met our standards. This Beelte is a true Pedigree car. You've probably spent the last 20 years thinking you could always pick one up for pennies and just never got around to it. Well the day has finally come when nice ones like this 1976 convertible are no longer disposable transportation, they're legitimate collectors' items. And they're still just as much fun as they were back in the good old days. Bright red is probably the best color for a VW Beetle, bright, cheerful, and highly visible, and in fact when this Bug was repainted a few years ago, they used "Georgia Bulldog Red" to make a statement. It's a great color, bold and vibrant without being too orange or too pink, and it would probably make a great parade vehicle in any regard. Despite their affordable price, these were always rather well-built little cars and even the convertibles like this one feel durable. Gaps are good, the doors fit with a solid feeling, and the body fits together quite well with a nice shine to the paint. It's not perfect because it's hard to resist driving a Beetle convertible on a sunny day, but it looks authentic and that's really what matters. The black rubber running boards are in good condition and the bright trim appears original. The chrome bumpers could use a little attention, but they're serviceable as-is and are easy to upgrade down the line. The interior is standard Beetle fare, with high-back bucket seats wrapped in some of the most durable man-made materials ever invented. Matching door panels were probably replaced at the same time the rest of the work was done and the carpets are reproduction pieces that fit well, although they could stand to be re-attached around the pedals. The simple instrument panel is VW engineering at its most basic, with big, clear numbers and an integral fuel gauge. Whatever the original radio may have been, it's long gone, replaced by a Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo head unit that sounds great when you're tooling around town in your bright red Bug. The 4-speed shifter will feel familiar to anyone who has ever owned a Beetle before, and with a little practice, you'll be shifting like a pro. The forward trunk is largely original, but you can easily see how thorough the paint job was. And there's a newer black convertible top with glass rear window and headliner, giving the VW a far more expensive feel than you'd expect at this price level. A standard 1600 cc flat-four provides power, and while performance is adequate, it's the way it goes about its business that makes the Beetle such a joy. It has good torque and a peppy demeanor, and with the lightweight body, it zips around without seeming to work hard. It's pretty tight in there, but the original equipment is intact and it runs rather well, as Beetles tend to do when they're not neglected. The transmission shifts like it should and thanks to a fairly comprehensive restoration about ten years ago, the underside is in good order and ready for another few decades of fun. No surprises await you in the floors or rocker boxes, and the suspension feels buttoned-down and well-sorted. Stock steel wheels with hubcaps are really the best choice on an early Beetle and they wear 165R15 blackwalls with a very appropriate look. Complete with manuals, receipts, and restoration photos, this is a fun, inexpensive car that delights everyone who sees it. Better move fast, though, because a lot of people are realizing how special these Bugs really are. This nicely finished 1969 Volkswagen Beetle isn't wildly modified, but bright red paint definitely makes it stand out in the crowd. It also offers the charm of the early, pre-Super Beetle era, including small marker lights and a flat windshield, which are preferred by collectors. Bright red paint looks great on the trademark Beetle curves, but to really make it shine, you need to get a straight one. Unfortunately, a lot of folks don't think VWs are worth the restoration investment, and that's why you need a good, clean original. Even though the paint is now a few years old, it's obvious that this was always a good, clean southern car and the paint has held up quite well despite this being a car that's hard to resist when the sun is shining. This unmolested Beetle fits together extremely well and the doors open and close with just a light touch. There's a single strip of bright trim running the length of the body that dresses it up, and the rest of the chrome appears to have an excellent original patina. The interior is handsomely fitted with reproduction black seat covers on the original high-back bucket seats. Black door panels, a new set of black carpets, and a repainted dash make it feel young again, but you can't shake the wonderful vintage feeling of grabbing that big, thin-rimmed steering wheel and stubby 4-speed shifter. The simple single gauge offers speed and fuel level, but precious little else, but these cars tend to be so reliable that keeping a constant eye on them isn't really necessary. There's a JVC AM/FM/cassette unit that's probably been there for decades, and since it's a life-long warm-climate car, it has never needed a heater, which is always a source of problems anyway. Up front, the trunk has been fitted with new gray carpets, a pair of speakers, and a spare tire. Overhead, there's a recent white convertible top and matching boot, which give the Bug a jaunty, bright look. The 1600 cc flat-four has obviously been recently reworked and drives superbly today. There's a fresh carburetor, new ignition tune-up parts, and a custom pulley on the crank. It still makes all the right sounds, and the smooth-running engine easily keeps up with modern traffic out on the road. Underneath, the chassis is reasonably clean thanks to living in a warm climate, and this is one of those rare Beetles that has not been endlessly modified over the years. Instead, it has a stock suspension, brakes that are surprisingly effective given its light weight and modest performance, and even a proper OEM-grade muffler that generates the trademark VW whistling exhaust note. Bright chrome wheels look a lot like vintage Minilites, which were popular back when this car was new, and they wear rather larger 205/60/15 front and 215/60/15 blackwalls that give it a nice ride and handling boost. Beetles still represent a huge amount of fun for the money, and this lovely convertible is one of those simple little cars that has simply been properly maintained and cherished all its life and offers a lot of fun for the money. This nicely finished 1969 Volkswagen Beetle isn't wildly modified, but bright red paint definitely makes it stand out in the crowd. It also offers the charm of the early, pre-Super Beetle era, including small marker lights and a flat windshield, which are preferred by collectors. Bright red paint looks great on the trademark Beetle curves, but to really make it shine, you need to get a straight one. Unfortunately, a lot of folks don't think VWs are worth the restoration investment, and that's why you need a good, clean original. Even though the paint is now a few years old, it's obvious that this was always a good, clean southern car and the paint has held up quite well despite this being a car that's hard to resist when the sun is shining. This unmolested Beetle fits together extremely well and the doors open and close with just a light touch. There's a single strip of bright trim running the length of the body that dresses it up, and the rest of the chrome appears to have an excellent original patina. The interior is handsomely fitted with reproduction black seat covers on the original high-back bucket seats. Black door panels, a new set of black carpets, and a repainted dash make it feel young again, but you can't shake the wonderful vintage feeling of grabbing that big, thin-rimmed steering wheel and stubby 4-speed shifter. The simple single gauge offers speed and fuel level, but precious little else, but these cars tend to be so reliable that keeping a constant eye on them isn't really necessary. There's a JVC AM/FM/cassette unit that's probably been there for decades, and since it's a life-long warm-climate car, it has never needed a heater, which is always a source of problems anyway. Up front, the trunk has been fitted with new gray carpets, a pair of speakers, and a spare tire. Overhead, there's a recent white convertible top and matching boot, which give the Bug a jaunty, bright look. The 1600 cc flat-four has obviously been recently reworked and drives superbly today. There's a fresh carburetor, new ignition tune-up parts, and a custom pulley on the crank. It still makes all the right sounds, and the smooth-running engine easily keeps up with modern traffic out on the road. Underneath, the chassis is reasonably clean thanks to living in a warm climate, and this is one of those rare Beetles that has not been endlessly modified over the years. Instead, it has a stock suspension, brakes that are surprisingly effective given its light weight and modest performance, and even a proper OEM-grade muffler that generates the trademark VW whistling exhaust note. Bright chrome wheels look a lot like vintage Minilites, which were popular back when this car was new, and they wear rather larger 205/60/15 front and 215/60/15 blackwalls that give it a nice ride and handling boost. Beetles still represent a huge amount of fun for the money, and this lovely convertible is one of those simple little cars that has simply been properly maintained and cherished all its life and offers a lot of fun for the money.
