Some slight scratches can be found in the trim above the grill but no signs of dents/rust found in any of the stainless or chrome. All glass (soft-ray tinted), lights and lenses are also free from damage. Grill is a reproduction but all other trim is either NOS or refinished. Wheels are original 14x6 sized for the station wagons. Interior Interior has been reupholstered using factory NOS material and then covered with plastic seat covers. Cargo area was repainted and color matched to the original. Door panels are original, show a slight amount of staining in the corners but for their age are in great condition. Mechanical Engine starts easily and runs well. Transmission and overdrive shift as they should. No surprises from suspension, brakes or power steering. All gauges, radio and even clock appear to be working. The engine is original to this wagon and has not been rebuilt, mileage shown on odometer is correct for the engine. 1957 Pontiac Starchief Safari wagon four door! Finished in Grabber Blue and white 2 tone paint. It has a rebuilt Chevy 350 cubic inch V8 and a Turbo 350 automatic transmission to move it along. Under the hood you'll find an Edlebrock carburetor, chrome valve covers, chrome air cleaner, chrome alternator, MSD 6-A ignition! This wagon is a great alternative to the famous Chevy Nomad, but is much rarer. Fewer than 2,000 four-door models were sold. Inside it has newer black door panels and black carpet. The seats and headboard is made from older denham fabric. All the lights and the wipers work, and it drives fantastic down the road, a few squeaks but nothing out of the norm. It sits just right, and sounds like a true hot rod with dual exhaust! The car includes Indian Chief Hood Ornament, 12 bolt rear end, electric wipers, electric windows, painless wiring harness, front disc brakes, tilt steering wheel, shaved door handles, door poppers (the front two work with remote), forward tilt hood, Dakota digital STR2000 dash, CD player. Paint has a few small dings and paint chips, most of which are on the right front fender area. No major rust that I can see, except for one spot on the front left corner of the hood where the paint has bubbled a little (see pictures). Frame off restoration in 1992 (estimated $7,000+ in parts added at this time). The electric window motors are either under powered or the window felt around the window causes too much resistance. The driver’s side electric window has no problems at all, it just seems to be the other three, the windows go down great, they just need a little help on the way up. The Dakota digital dash has a loose wire, or is picking up some interference from a sensor, on occasion the blue lights on the instrument cluster will flicker. I tried to fix the flickering dash light by replacing the alternator and replacing the ignition wires, the flickering still occurs. I believe I have touched on all the quirks with the car. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. The car starts up, runs good, and is a fun car to drive. The car has power steering and the brakes work great. The car has been sitting in my backyard under a car cover for the majority of the winter. This is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase a fantastic custom automobile. Included with the purchase is a 1.5 inch thick binder of including: photos of restoration process, independent appraisal (from Pacific Automobile Appraisers), instruction manuals, and many receipts. A detachable roof rack used to carry surfboard is available if interested (it is in much need of restoration). This a California car, it had a frame off restoration around 1992 and has been in California its entire life from what I am aware of. Anybody is more than welcome to come and view this car in person or send an appraiser to give them a further insight to its condition. The current mileage on the odometer reads AROUND 16,xxx I am unsure of the actual mileage since the instrument cluster was replaced and is not the original. Rare Original 1957 Mercury Commuter Station Wagon with 105,000 miles. Purchased and maintained here in Northern California since new, this cool old wagon is very complete and still wearing its factory paint after 57 years. The car had been garaged for over 20 years until just recently. We have just serviced the fuel, exhaust, brakes and cooling system and all are working properly now. The car is in good running and driving condition currently but will require some continued restoration to reach whatever level the new buyer desires. This is a true California black plate car with clear title in my name and is currently registered. This old Merc is equipped with its original 312 V8 engine that starts right up and runs well. The transmission is the stock automatic 2 speed with the push button shifter on the dash, it also is working well. Differential is the stock 9" Ford unit thats quiet and operating smoothly. The non power four wheel drum brakes have been just serviced, new master cylinder, wheel cylinders and rubber lines. No power steering. Stock exhaust manifolds with new dual exhaust and turbo mufflers out the rear bumper notches. 60s vintage mags with good rubber are in nice shape. The original steel wheels and caps are included with this sale. Radiator flows well and has a Sacramento Radiator rebuild tag on it which I assume was done just prior to storage, we have just replaced the thermostat and water pump. There are markings on the firewall that suggest the transmission was rebuilt around 78,000 miles although I have no paperwork to verify this. Lights and blinkers are working but the dash is currently not - no horn speedo fuel gauge or water temp. Heater core was disconnected so likely it is shot but the blower motor spins freely with the high and low settings. Radio is not working. Padded dash was damaged and removed. Glove box is in place and light is working. Seats are in fair shape as well as the door panels but most people will want them restored. Headliner bows are all in place but the original material had turned to powder and was removed. The body of the car is in typical California shape. Original two tone paint is dried and showing 57 years of wear and tear. First owner did some sanding on the front right fender for some reason, atleast he stopped there. There is some rust at the battery platform and in the footwells but this would be considered minor to most. The frame, fenders, inner wheel wells and rockers are all good as well as the spare tire well. Bumpers and stainless are in pretty fair shape also. The glass is all typical 1957 with some bubbling discoloring and a couple of small rock chips in the windshield. The rear curved glass is really nice. The right side rear door glass was used as a kids BB gun target but he was a really good shot and left the rest of the car alone - thankfully. The tailgate power window mechanism is complete but out of the car for some reason? electric motor probably but we havent checked it yet. The original owner came up with his own "manual" fix to the window issue and it does function. The tailgate itself has some rust issues around the lower right hinge that will require some wire feed work and there is some slight rust in the drip rail at the roof line but again nothing major. Door and window mechanisms are all in place and working. The door panels are fair and will make solid patterns if desired. Some pictures may display a "roof rack" with a surf board, its not attached and was just a mock up for the pictures - they are not included with the sale but if you must have them we can negotiate them later.
