For sale is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am that would make an excellent candiate for restoration. The car runs and drives, but is not quite highway ready yet. All the gauges work, not sure about the clock. The driver's side power window works but not the passenger. The engine is a pontiac 400, that sounds great (see video at bottom of page).Overall, the car is solid, will need work. Nice car for sale. Body in great condition, no visible rust. Interior is also in good and original shape. Dash has a couple of small cracks but nothing to be concerned about. Passenger seat will have to be recovered. The car had the original 403 engine in it. I pulled the engine and have a 1968 455 olds engine bored 20 over. The engine is completely rebuilt and has no miles on it and is currently still at the machine shop.

Normal 0 1978 Trans Am. Martinique Blue ( Code 24) Color. Same owner since 1997 (Me) Original Engine and Transmission. Pontiac 400, auto trans, posi rear end. The car had 67k Original miles on it when I bought it in 1997. Now it just turned over 90k. Lots of receipts and PHS Documents along with trim tag show its an original Martinique Blue car. Has had one repaint before I got it. The car deserves a new paint job to be perfect. There are small bubble bumps under most of the paint. I tried to show them in the photos. The worst spot on the car is on the passenger lower fender behind the wheel well. The car drives well enough for a 500 mile trip right now. Cruise Control works. 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I have owned this car for 5 years and have enjoyed it but don't have the time to drive it so i'm passing it on for someone else to enjoy. Car was painted 7 years ago and is in good condition and a great driver. It has some small scratches and a few small rust spots. Powered by a Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 with automatic transmission, new fan clutch, new Holley 650 cfm double pumper carb, new Mallory coil, Mallory distributer (Breakerless), Davies 10 mm plug wires, Crower "Baja Beast" Cam and exhaust headers. I replaced all 4 tires with Bridgestone Dueler tires 4 years ago and only have 3,000 miles on them. Previous owner installed the 1977 snow flake wheels and a new headliner, carpet, door panels and added one rear leaf to the rear springs. It has a tilt steering wheel and a Sony CD player purchased at Best Buy about 4 years ago and installed in the console and also has the factory AM/FM Cassette radio in the dash but doesn't work. We purchased this car and were told it has a performance built 455 but we have no paperwork to back that up. Great oil pressure and rock solid temperature. Rebuilt Quadrajet.Also told it has a freshly rebuilt Super T10 4 speed but have no paperwork to back that up either. Shifts nice and smooth with no noises. The rearend is a 3:42 posi. This car has lots of power and is very fast. Tires are in great shape and have lots of tread. They are wide with 255-60-15’s up front and 275-60-15’s in the rear. It has a new starter and brand new 2 ½ inch true dual exhaust. Inside the car everything works except the clock. Seats and carpet are in good shape. This is a non T-Top car which is more rare and it has a sunroof installed. Stereo is aftermarket and works but the speakers are in the trunk un-mounted. The floor boards have had amateur repairs done and there is rust in the passenger side rear frame rail. The body is rust free. As far as the paint job, we did not do it! This is not a show car, but it is a great running driver that just needs a paint job. Please come view and test drive this car if you can. Please assume nothing and ask any and all questions. Very well maintained 1978 Pontiac Trans Am, this is a real TA not a Firebird or Formula. It started its life as a southern California car and hasn’t been out of the Southwest. It was previously owned and maintained by NASCAR Hall of fame driver and current crew chief Bill Sedgwick. The body was repainted only a couple years ago, refinished with multiple coats of clear. The decals were not reapplied at the time, but that can be negotiated into the deal if you want them. All panels are straight and gaps even, no rust on the car at all. The urethane nose piece is in great shape with no signs of shrinkage. It’s equipped with 15 inch Cragars that are in great shape, no blistering or peeling; the tires have plenty of life left on them as well. On the interior, the car came equipped with power widows that function smoothly. It has an updated radio with ipod hook up but the dash was not cut into to install. The carpet, door panels, headliner and seat covers were all replaced. The dash and gauges are in excellent condition, everything works. Under the hood, the 403 cubic inch engine runs amazingly strong, possibly the best running classic car I’ve ever owned. Equipped from the factory with power steering, power brakes and A/C that blows ice cold. Everything is as it should be from the factory, down to all smog equipment still in place and functioning so this car is sure to pass any state emissions test. All suspension components are in excellent condition, the car handles and steers tight with minimal body roll. Up for sale is a beautiful 1978 Trans Am strip car that has been 90% restored to street specifications. I have owned this car for almost 1.5 years and have spent the better half detuning the engine for better and more reliable street characteristics. The engine previously had 600-650 hp with a cam that built power from 4000-7000 rpm and didn’t hook up until 3500 rpm. Needless to say not ideal for city driving lol! The engine is currently a 500 hp 1973 455 bored .30 over with an eagle 4.25 stroker crank, eagle 6.8 inch h beam rods, ross flat top pistons with total seal rings, performer rpm intake, quick fuel 780 vacuum secondaries carb, edelbrock 72cc ported and polished heads, 1.5 scorpion roller rockers, newl lunati dual valve springs, valve seals, retainers, new comp cams hydraulic roller cam( 288/294, 236/242, 520/540, 110 ), pontiac hydraulic roller lifters, custom chromemoly pushrods 8.75x.116x5/16”, new one piece 3.25” viton dual lip rear main seal, new brass freeze plugs, new durabond pontiac cam bearings, crank turned .10 under with new clevite main and race rod bearings, new performance street harmonic balancer, new aluminum pulleys, new flow cooler water pump, coated super comp headers with 40 series flow master exhaust, th-400 transmission with B&M quicksilver shifter and new hughes 2500 stall converter, 10 bolt rear end with 30 spline moser axles and 3.73 gears with eaton posi, milodon 7qt oil pan, subframe connectors, Competition engineering slide-a-link traction bars, driveshaft safety loop, holley red electric fuel pump with all braided lines, auxillary electric fan to help keep engine cooler when needed. Engine runs fantastic and only has 1000 miles on rebuild. All parts from BUTLER PERFORMANCE ! I also recently bought new Foose wheels and Nitto extreme tires which really set off the car. The wheels are 17x8 in the front with 245/45/17 tires and 17x9.5 in rear with 285/40/17 tires. The car is painted gm quasar blue metallic with a custom airbrushed hood(spectacular and one of a kind) and airbrushed decals on fenders and deck lid.. All airbrushing is clear coated and look amazing. Paint is very nice driver qualiity but has normal chips and scratches for a paint that is over 10 years old. The interior is like new . Sun roof was added by previous owner. All original sheet metal, fenders quarters, floors etc…rust free CA car originally. Car is all engine with minimal frills-has power steering and windows only. No AC, heat or wipers. No power brakes! Car is now set up with enough vacuum to run power brakes. Have a new wiper motor but like look of engine bay without it. Pictures show a stereo but not hooked up. Have all paperwork for the engine, rear end.lots of receipts and build sheet. Car runs great on race gas but can drive on street with 93 octane….currently run 91 octane with quart of torco fuel accelerator octane boost-readily available on eBay . If you buy collector car insurance through haggerty or like no emissions is necessary. I paid 19500.00 for car and have put an additional 5000.00 in motor and another 2000.00 in wheels and tires.
