I bought this car last year with the intent of doing a small but good restoration. The body, engine and trans r in good shape. I am more of an interior person than a mechanic so this car fit my needs. It is in really good mechanical condition and has no rust. Shifts as it should with no sync issue.I was doing very well working on it after work and weekends until I injured my knee. Dr says i need a knee replacement. Not gonna do that untill i have to. So the project came to a halt.I have OVER 4500.00 invested and as they say my loss is your gain. Needs the interior... new carpet and new leather on the seats... foam and seat r n good condition. Door panels also need replacing. The convertable top is in poor condition but could be repaired or used as a pattern to make a new one.I hate to sell it but I just cant get around like I used to. This will really make someone a cool little car. Not much else left to do. Not a basket case for sure!!!! Good Luck!!!!

1956 Alfa Romeo 750 Spyder, an original "Black Plate" car in superb rust free condition, this car retains its California pink slip showing the same owner registered in 1969. I contacted Marco Fazio at Alfa Romeo Centro Documentazion in Milan who confirmed build date as November 2nd 1956 and sale to Hoffman Motor Cars the Alfa Romeo importer in the USA on 10th November 1956.He also confirmed the chassis number as 1495 00801 and matching Motor Number 1315 40724, exterior :Red AR505 nterior: Black As you can see from the original Pink Slip this Alfa lived in Ontario California until the 1990s when it was bought by its last owner and moved up to California's Bay Area, it seems that it was stripped at that time in preperation for a full restoration, the owner then went about collecting and documenting every part and piece required. Every single item it seems has either been rechromed, powder coated, retrimmed or replaced with either NOS or top quality replacement, each and every item wrapped or boxed and categorized, the owner was very much OCD and as such there are many receipts and lists for the accumulated parts included in a folder. The bodyshell is still in its rolling state and is about as rust free as its possible to get, there were two small holes on the passenger side floor under the seat mounts, the same on driver side, as you can see my body guy welded a complete patch into the floor pan, he straightened out both rear wheel arches which had been hammered to allow for wider wheels, he also straightened out the nose which had been dented and lightly skimmed with bondo, it is now straight and literally all metal. The doors and trunk lid are all numbered and can be seen in the picture gallery listed below, they are rust free and already prepped, panel fit and all gaps are excellent.Motor has been removed and is essentially in one piece, it turns on the flywheel, has its original head, it is believed to be absolutely complete with inlet and exhaust manifold and correct carb (there are several carbs as spares) it also has its proper distributor, fuel pump mounted on the front of the head, proper valve/rocker cover, correct air cleaner which is restored etc. it is obviously going to need a thorough rebuild.All parts are there and there are several duplicates ready for rebuild. The gearbox is also the correct original unit. And the one to own is probably this 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Niki Lauda edition, one of 350 or so built that year to commemorate Brabham Alfa Romeo's partnership with driver Niki Lauda in Formula One. Beautifully maintained, it is pure Italian magic with a very reasonable price tag. The Niki Lauda cars were all painted in Brabham F1 livery, bright red with white and blue stripes and wore a three piece fiberglass spoiler out back that would become standard equipment on later Spiders. This particular Spider was repainted in 2007 and they did a spectacular job, capturing the essential Italian look and exotic flavor of the car. Obviously, it helps to start with good base stock, and with just 50,606 miles on the clock, this car was obviously a fair-weather toy all its life. They decided to leave the stripes off when it was repainted (they were only decals anyway, so it would be easy to replace them) but all the special emblems remain, signifying this as one of the special Niki Lauda cars (#216 out of 350, to be precise). Finish quality is quite good and there were no liberties taken with the design, so the lovely covered headlights, big rubber bumpers, and offset tailpipe all remain intact. There's not much chrome, but the lovely Alfa Romeo script on the tail, the stainless bumper inserts, and door handles remain in excellent shape. The handsome black leather interior is beautifully appointed in the way that only the Italians seem to have mastered. The driving position is excellent and even though that shifter looks odd, it works well and feels quite natural on the road. Bucket seats hold just snugly enough and the door panels are in great shape, as are the black carpets. The wood-rimmed wheel is elegant and just what this car should be carrying and the big, round gauges from Jaeger are elegant and simple. The switch gear and controls for the ventilation system are typically confusing in the Italian way, but shockingly, the A/C is fully functional and the AM/FM/cassette stereo sounds great. There's a reasonably-sized trunk in back, also nicely finished with black carpet, and the black convertible top looks almost new. But the real reason people love and drive Alfa Romeos is the powerplant. The 2.0 liter twin cam inline-four isn't about horsepower, but it does love to rev, makes beautiful sounds, and pulls the little roadster around with ease. Running through the gears, it's easy to see Niki Lauda himself behind the wheel, smiling, as the machine does its thing. Yes, it really does feel different. Extensive service records totaling almost $10,000 show that this is no neglected beater, but a cherished toy that has always been treated well. It starts easily and sounds fantastic exhaling through a 4-2-1 header and new exhaust system. Many of the suspension components are new, the fuel pump has been replaced, and the underside is original but quite clean, so it's ready to enjoy without a second thought. Beautiful alloy wheels remain in excellent condition with no curb rash or corrosion and wear 195/70/14 blackwall radials. The paint has a very "deep" look and has a great shine. Its amazing how well preserved this car is. The car does show some normal wear and use for a 31 year old car with 36k miles and only does have minor rock chips and some chips that have been touched up with touch up paint. It does not have any dents. Every panel lines up great and all of the doors, hood and trunk all open and shut with ease and have a solid feel. I have not found any accident damage on this car and the car does have a clean car fax and the mileage is verified on the car fax as well. This is a completely rust free car. Whether you are at 750rpm or 6,000 rpm the car runs incredibly smooth. This car, and my Ferrari mechanic will agree, pulls very strong for an Alfa and is quite impressive. This Spider also has excellent throttle response and great power. The engine has very strong oil pressure as well and stays nice and cool in Arizonas hot and dry climate. The clutch feels great and is not exhibiting any slipping whatsoever. The gear change is so nice and smooth on this car, the gear lever moves with ease and has a great feel. The front bumper incorporated the grille and a small soft rubber spoiler was added to the trunk lid. The change altered the exterior appearance of the car considerably and was not universally praised by enthusiasts. Various other minor mechanical and aesthetic modifications were also made, and the 1600 car (never available in North America) dropped the "Junior" name. The Quadrifoglio Verde (Green Fourleaf Clover) model was introduced in 1986, with many aesthetic tweaks, including sideskirts, mirrors, new front and rear spoilers, hard rubber trunk mounted spoilers with integral 3rd stoplight, unique 15" alloys and optional removable hardtop. Even as late as 1965, Road & Track was still singing the praises of the 1600cc Giulia Spider Veloce. Nevertheless, for the 1966 model year, Alfa began selling its replacement, named the “Duetto,” via a contest that Alfa ran with the Italian public. It was the last project in which Batista Pininfarina was personally involved. And while widely viewed as classic design today, it was met with some controversy when new. Power was initially from the familiar Alfa 1600cc twin-cam engine that powered the last Giulias. Emission laws affected Alfa particularly hard and 1968 was a lost year in the U.S. The car returned for 1969 with a 1750cc engine and SPICA mechanical fuel injection. 1970 was another lost year and 1971 saw the car return with its lovely boat tail chopped off. The so-called Kamm-tail spider continued on basically unchanged (save for bigger bumpers and a 250cc boost in displacement) until 1982 when electronic injection was introduced and in 1983 styling was freshened slightly. Interior changes were about it until 1991 when the final (and quite successful) cleanup of the design took place prior to its discontinuation in 1994. All Spiders are brisk performers with sub-10 second 0-60 times and stellar convertible tops. Parts are readily available and while they are more complex and don’t tolerate “fools with tools” as readily as an MGB, they are more rewarding to drive. Rust was a major issue in all cars prior to the final series of 1991-94 cars. Last year in which the spider was built, only 1,956 were built in 1993 which was 1.6% of the total production from 1970 to 1993. The transmission shift perfectly through all the gears and the clutch feels great and is not exhibiting any slipping whatsoever. The car tracks down the road straight as an arrow and feels solid driving down the road. All of the lights, signals, wipers etc. are in great working order.
