I think this is the best looking Alfa Spider year because of the delicate relationship of the grille and bumpers, to the aerodynamic body. It is a rolling work of art. This is a nicely restored rust-free Southern Car, know living in Sullivan County, NY. The motor and drive-train are tight and fluid, and there is no smoke or clatter or unwanted vibrations. The fuel injected twin-cam 1779 cc motor starts easily, and runs extremely quietly at idle, and the performance on the road is fantastic. The gearbox functions as it did in 1969, and the steering and 4-wheel disc braking and tracking are as new. It is truly a joy to drive. This "Duetto" has a beautiful newer paint job in the original charcoal grey color, a nice black interior, and navy blue convertible top. It has a tonneau cover in the trunk, and also includes the original steering wheel. Expensive at introduction at $4000, almost the same as a Jaguar E-Type, it afforded entry into the world of Italian design and performance, i.e. “the Poor Man’s Ferrari”. It remained in production for almost 30 years, and until recently was Alfa’s last rear-wheel-drive car. The Spider was offered in three trim levels; the $20,500 Quadrifoglio Verde (“Four-Leaf Clover”, Alfa’s long-time good luck charm), the $17,000 Veloce, and the $14,000 entry-level Graduate. After a naming contest which drew over 100,000 entries, the name that was selected presented legal copyright issues so Alfa Romeo stuck with the simple Spider 1600. A simple name belied the successful combination of very pretty lines on a successful chassis, so successful that the Spider remained in production for almost 30 years with very few changes. In 1970 Alfa introduced the Series 2 which featured minor changes to the interior and exterior, notably the squared off trunk lid and grill. The engine was upgraded to a 1962 CC engine and the car was renamed the 2000 Spider Veloce. 1982 saw the introduction of the Series 3 Spider, which featured a black rubber spoiler on the trunk lid but also introduced a 2.0-liter engine with Bosch Fuel Injection. 1956 Alfa Romeo 750 Spyder, an original "Black Plate" car in superb rust free condition, this car retains its California pink slip showing the same owner registered in 1969. I contacted Marco Fazio at Alfa Romeo Centro Documentazion in Milan who confirmed build date as November 2nd 1956 and sale to Hoffman Motor Cars the Alfa Romeo importer in the USA on 10th November 1956.He also confirmed the chassis number as 1495 00801 and matching Motor Number 1315 40724, exterior :Red AR505 nterior: Black As you can see from the original Pink Slip this Alfa lived in Ontario California until the 1990s when it was bought by its last owner and moved up to California's Bay Area, it seems that it was stripped at that time in preperation for a full restoration, the owner then went about collecting and documenting every part and piece required. Every single item it seems has either been rechromed, powder coated, retrimmed or replaced with either NOS or top quality replacement, each and every item wrapped or boxed and categorized, the owner was very much OCD and as such there are many receipts and lists for the accumulated parts included in a folder. The bodyshell is still in its rolling state and is about as rust free as its possible to get, there were two small holes on the passenger side floor under the seat mounts, the same on driver side, as you can see my body guy welded a complete patch into the floor pan, he straightened out both rear wheel arches which had been hammered to allow for wider wheels, he also straightened out the nose which had been dented and lightly skimmed with bondo, it is now straight and literally all metal. The doors and trunk lid are all numbered and can be seen in the picture gallery listed below, they are rust free and already prepped, panel fit and all gaps are excellent.Motor has been removed and is essentially in one piece, it turns on the flywheel, has its original head, it is believed to be absolutely complete with inlet and exhaust manifold and correct carb (there are several carbs as spares) it also has its proper distributor, fuel pump mounted on the front of the head, proper valve/rocker cover, correct air cleaner which is restored etc. it is obviously going to need a thorough rebuild.All parts are there and there are several duplicates ready for rebuild. The gearbox is also the correct original unit. And the one to own is probably this 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Niki Lauda edition, one of 350 or so built that year to commemorate Brabham Alfa Romeo's partnership with driver Niki Lauda in Formula One. Beautifully maintained, it is pure Italian magic with a very reasonable price tag. The Niki Lauda cars were all painted in Brabham F1 livery, bright red with white and blue stripes and wore a three piece fiberglass spoiler out back that would become standard equipment on later Spiders. This particular Spider was repainted in 2007 and they did a spectacular job, capturing the essential Italian look and exotic flavor of the car. Obviously, it helps to start with good base stock, and with just 50,606 miles on the clock, this car was obviously a fair-weather toy all its life. They decided to leave the stripes off when it was repainted (they were only decals anyway, so it would be easy to replace them) but all the special emblems remain, signifying this as one of the special Niki Lauda cars (#216 out of 350, to be precise). Finish quality is quite good and there were no liberties taken with the design, so the lovely covered headlights, big rubber bumpers, and offset tailpipe all remain intact. There's not much chrome, but the lovely Alfa Romeo script on the tail, the stainless bumper inserts, and door handles remain in excellent shape. The handsome black leather interior is beautifully appointed in the way that only the Italians seem to have mastered. The driving position is excellent and even though that shifter looks odd, it works well and feels quite natural on the road. Bucket seats hold just snugly enough and the door panels are in great shape, as are the black carpets. The wood-rimmed wheel is elegant and just what this car should be carrying and the big, round gauges from Jaeger are elegant and simple. The switch gear and controls for the ventilation system are typically confusing in the Italian way, but shockingly, the A/C is fully functional and the AM/FM/cassette stereo sounds great. There's a reasonably-sized trunk in back, also nicely finished with black carpet, and the black convertible top looks almost new. But the real reason people love and drive Alfa Romeos is the powerplant. "Unrestored" 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate For Sale is this remarkable, beautiful, super clean, "90% original" 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate. This car is not like the rest of the Alfa Spider's you see on here or anywhere else. This Alfa Romeo has been locked up and stored just about all its life. For a car that is 28 yrs old (almost 30 yrs old) it doesn't look a day over 5 or maybe 6 yrs old. There are below 58 "detailed" pictures of how clean this car is. From front to back to under and anywhere you'd like to look, this car is simply "breathtaking". The only thing far as I know since I am the 3rd owner I can say the top has been replaced along with the stock springs. It has the correct nice racing springs (receipt to back it up). I was told by the 2nd owner that the first owner told him he ordered this car with all three options. (and you could only order 3 options for the Graduate). That would make this car a fully loaded Graduate. One option was air conditioning. The second was a radio, which supposedly this car is a delete radio option car. I do not have block off plate for it though. The third was speakers, which being a delete radio car the speakers would have been deleted as well. I was told that he (the first owner) took this Alfa back to the dealership a few years after purchasing it and had them install a radio and speakers. I however do not have the paperwork on the radio delete option but I do trust the source. This Alfa is a 1987 so that means it is the "20th Anniversary car" to the movie "The Graduate" starring Dustin Hoffman. Car comes with jack and hardware, tool kit, dealership brochure, owners manual, 6 year / 60,000mile rust protection warranty booklet, maintenance program booklet, and all receipts on car including road service records. This car has never left Ohio in its life and is 98% rust free. There is one small crack in the windshield (I bought it that way) and its located on the passenger bottom corner. I didn't replace it due to "originality" and the same for the 2nd owner, and honestly its really not that noticeable. I have an estimate from a local glass shop (was just curious) , and I have already took the cost out from my asking price for the damage. The passenger seat does have a rip in it the size of a quarter and has been patched. Other then that, that's the only thing I can see that this car needs. It does have a few very very little dings but once again its a 30 yr old car. If the windshield, the seat, or a very very little ding is the only thing keeping you from buying this car then your missing the whole point, this car is not a new car, its almost 30 yrs old, that's the amazing part. It starts with great bodywork, and the Spider Veloce, which endured for decades virtually unchanged, shows off a lot of flair in a compact package. The code 103 Ivory paint is in very good condition with only a few signs of use, which is fitting on a car that's designed to be the ultimate dance partner. Panel fit is quite good given the era and the hand-built nature of the car, and the shape works just fine without the body add-ons that would come a few years later. Simple, elegant, and extremely sporty, it shows off the little things that the Italians do so well. Note the neat little flush-fitting door handles, the exhaust pipe that's almost (but not quite!) centered under the rear bumper, and, of course, that Alfa grille standing proud up front, neatly integrated into the bumper assembly. The special Italian touch extends to the interior, where even this bargain-priced roadster gets two-tone buckets that wear newer seat covers. A wood-rimmed wheel adds to the interior's ambience, and while it looks pretty weird, that shifter is intuitive and easy to use without any strangeness at all. Beautiful Jaeger instruments in a pair of hoods jutting out of the dash show off the simplicity that has long been a hallmark of Italian automotive design, with the secondary instruments slightly canted towards the driver. The ventilation system is typical Italian, with controls that are hard to decipher, but that's really all part of the charm in a car like this, although the A/C seems to need a recharge. There's also a newer AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit that was installed many years ago and probably due for an upgrade today. The trunk is actually well-shaped and spacious enough to hold luggage for two, and a black canvas convertible top fits neatly, even over the roll bar installed behind the seats. The rorty 2-liter engine sings to life with gusto and loves to rev, and with a glorious sound from the new muffler out back, you'll be looking for reasons to drop a gear or two and pin the throttle. Aluminum cam covers are a traditional Alfa look, and the fuel injection system has that instant throttle response that makes these cars such a joy to drive. And contrary to what you may have heard, these tough little Italian sports cars are actually reliable and sturdy, perfect for having fun without the worries. The 5-speed manual gearbox snicks through the gears thanks to a new clutch and the suspension has a great combination of control and supple body movements, so the car is all-day comfortable.
