Selling my 1993 Volvo 240 wagon. 170,000 miles, non-turbo. Clean title. Beautiful example of the best Volvo ever made, and the best year for the 240. I’ve had it for almost 9 years. I’ve maintained it meticulously and done a lot of things to make it run and look great. Price $7,500 I have loved this car and want to find a good home for it with a serious Volvo person. Selling it only because I decided to switch to an XC70. The 240 runs perfectly, recent oil/filter change, no cracks in the dash, cold AC, working power windows and door locks, AND cruise control. Regular oil/filter changes using Mann filters and Mobil 1 synthetic oil (Oild and filter changed in January at 170,000 miles). No body damage, never been in a wreck. I have records of all parts purchases and repair work since 2008 when I got the car. Overall it's in excellent running order. Here are just some of the car's features: Custom-made “VOLVO 240” logo decal on the doors on both sides. Looks very sharp, makes the car a real head-turner. I get thumbs-ups all the time, I’ve been asked many times if I want to sell the car. Tinted windows all around. E-Code headlights/turn signals. European tail light lenses. Original equipment fender-mounted turn signals. LED bulbs all around. Relocated the brake lights to the top lenses on the tail light assembly, making them much easier to see. Rebuilt and re-covered driver’s seat pan, using original-equipment foam. IPD seat covers on front seats. Center armrest. Genuine Volvo 240 1-1/4 inch tow hitch, used only for hauling bicycles. New tailgate hinges and wiring. Custom 16-inch wheels with 215/55R-16XL Granada HP all-season tires installed at 157,000 miles. Alternator, belts, O2 sensor and battery replaced July/August 2016. I purchased this Volvo 240 Classic wagon from a slimy used car salesman on Long Island named Hesham in March 2013. If you ever have contact with him, you should run the other way quickly. Long story short, he misrepresented many aspects but I could not walk away from this special vehicle. Benefits #697 of the final 1600 Classic Edition 240's off the production line in 1993. Most of every common repair job has been completed by a highly qualified local Volvo mechanic in the last 2.5 years. See list below. This is the famous bulletproof cast iron B230 engine. Just change the fluids and an occasional timing belt (recently done). It's -20degrees outside? Cranks right over for you with a blast furnace heater following 2 minutes later. A/C works well too. A complete tank in the snow & bad weather. Front OEM sway bar. Exceptionally stable for a rear wheel drive in all conditions and absolutely more stable than a SUV or Pickup when it gets messy. Parallel park on a dime with it's ridiculous turning radius. Heated seats & power mirrors, Legal tinted rear windows. Aftermarket undercoating. Remarkable cargo space. A lot more room for storage than most SUV's. I drove a new dishwasher home from Lowes without a problem. Just lay down the back seats and throw it in there. Did I mention SAFE? How's the safest car ever built in it's class? Yes, ever. All '93 240's have drivers air bags also. I would (and did) drive this car anywhere fearlessly. It is made to go there and bring you back again. Festival tested, zombie resistant, apocalypse ready. Character Flaws No high beam. Low beam only. It never bothered me. Issue is in the column stalk. Easy swap. Temp gauge does not work. Fuel gauge works most of the time. I just set the trip odometer and fill every 250miles Dash service light comes on after each ignition. Stays on for about 45seconds than always turns off. I could never find what this issue was. Diagnostics have been run multiple times without throwing any codes. Who knows. Dash Light Bulb Out indicator light comes on when you press the brake sometimes. This is a bug I didn't have time to chase much. It's occasional and only affects the right rear fog light. So I just left the rear fogs turned off, no biggie. Radio not hooked up. It was my next job on the list. All of the door speakers look to be in great shape though. Driver seat has typical small tears in the vinyl, passenger does not. Both have comfortable aftermarket canvas seat covers snugly over top. Driver side fender has a dent and shows some rust near the mud flap area. An old fender bender accident repair job was shoddy at best. To repair it properly, it would need a replacement fender. Can be found on eBay +/-$300 No clear coat failure or any other body issues but there are various dings, small scratches and typical "character flaws" of a 200k vehicle. I did my best to show in the pictures. Call me crazy but I fixed the broken odometer and rolled it forward to it's more truthful mileage. Carfax report will show a discrepancy because I was honest and told the DMV the original mileage was incorrect. I was not anticipating selling this car. Again, call me crazy. I'm got a handsome and rare Classic Limited edition of which only 1600 were produced. They numbered to commemorate the last 1,600 240's made. This one's numbered 273/1,600. This special package included the spical wheels, wood trimmed dash, painted mirror caps, painted headlight eyelids, and more. I'm a Volvo fan and own and run a small dealership that specializes in European cars and especially Volvo's. Everyone in my family has a Volvo...we're big fans! However, I can't keep this one because I simply do not have room to properly store it. I would rather see it go to a loving home that will enjoy it as much as I have. It's a absolutely rust-free vehicle that's spent 95% of it's life in Oklahoma. In Duluth, MN we get harsh winters and I don't want to leave this Volvo out in the snow all winter. I spent big money going through it to make sure it was mechanically top-notch. Tires are almost new, timing belt is new, head gasket is new (it had extraordinarily minor external seepage), new front brakes, overdrive relay and fuel pump relay (preventive maintenance), rear shocks, oil change, control arm and sway bar bushings, alignment, mass air flow sensor etc...Mechanically top notch and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere! Cosmetically, it's not perfect. Like I said, NO RUST. Body was painted previously and it's not perfect or show quality. I'm assuming they repainted it due to being sun baked. There are no accident records on Autocheck and no signs of accidents anywhere. Still looks very presentable! Minor dings here and there from typical use. Interior is pretty clean. One minor crack in the dash in the typical spot. Driver's side carpet has a wear hole. Some of the electronics don't work such as a power mirror, highbeams, check engine light and SRS light don't illuminate, and the heated seats aren't very hot. Odometer works like it should. A/C is cold and was retrofitted to r134a. All the power windows work. Power locks work. All the lights work and are new. All the trim is present on the body! Comes with Volvo head rest covers. For sale is my 1993 Volvo 240 wagon. It has 225k on the odometer but this was replaced by the previous owner and the car actually has about 255k (I have this documentation). I have high confidence in the reliability of this vehicle, I drove it from Maine to Wyoming two summers ago and from Maine to Newfoundland last summer. Super clean interior, runs great and has good power (for a 240). I will list some of the work done below and I would love to talk to any potential buyers over phone or e-mail for more specifics. I have loved owning this car and have maintained it to a high standard. Work done in the 2.5 years I've owned it, in no particular order with many things probably forgotten: - New Clutch - All new rear suspension bushings - Replaced springs with overload springs from IPD, this enables you to load cargo into it without sagging the rear end way down. Most old 240's have a sagging rear end even without cargo and the new bushings and springs solved that. - New brakes front and rear (pads, calipers, rotors) fronts were just done this summer. Before the front calipers were replaced I was having an occasional ABS light, in doing the front brakes my mechanic diagnosed a failed ABS system. He converted the brakes back to non-ABS which is actually a huge improvement even over properly functioning early Volvo ABS. - All new engine seals including rear main (PVC system serviced as well). I have no tolerance for leaking oil. - I replaced the seats with seats from an 84 turbo wagon with just over 100k on it. I couldn't resist, in my view they are the nicest seats Volvo ever made. In the interest of full disclosure the frame on the drivers seat is slightly tweaked. Its unnoticeable sitting in it and it took me several weeks after installing the seats to even catch it. Center armrest added as well. - All new ignition system from coil to plugs, new voltage regulator on alternator. - New fuel filter and fuel pump relay - Tachometer, small clock, and ambient temp gauge added. Temp compensation board fixed to provide accurate engine temp readings - Summer tires have 10k on them, comes with a second set of wheels with studded snows. I also have the OEM hubcaps, I just liked the looks without them. - Suspension sway bars were upgraded with sway bars from a GT. This greatly improved cornering and the car drives great. I still have the OEM sway bars and will include them in case the buyer wants to return it to stock. There is a bunch of other work and I have receipts from my ownership plus some from the previous ownership. As I mentioned, I have maintained it to a high standard. You could drive it as is for quite a while but if you want it to be perfect, here is what I know it needs: Needs: - AC worked until this summer when I broke a line attempting to swap in a new seal. If you had an AC shop braze the line back together I am confident it would work again, I never really used it anyways. - Rear wiper does not work - Cruise control stopped working last week - Replaced the rear torque arm bushings with poly bushings, they make some noise unless they are greased occasionally. The fix would be to swap them back to OEM rubber, it doesn't really bother me. These are pretty minor issues and if you are buying a 23 year old car then you probably want to do a little tinkering. This is a very well preserved Volvo 240 sedan. It was the last year of manufacturer. It is in very nice shape and I have spared no expenses in bringing it up to my standards with a ASE Volvo certified mechanic at an independent repair facility. What has been done recently: timing belt, water pump kit, spark plugs and wires, crank sensor, K&N air filter, new horns, A/C service, transmission service with filter, oil change with filter, trailor hitch and wiring, new rear brake pads, voltmeter guage, oil pressure guage, front strut/shock inserts, rear shocks, new muffler, new tail light lens/bulbs, brake flush, radiator flush, wiper blades, and alignment. New side pockets on both front doors. New electric antenna motor and rod. New glove box lock. Tires are very good. It drives well, tracks well, and there is no shimmey. The A/C blows cold and all controls work as they should. The interior is in very nice shape without signs of heavy wear. Non smoker car. This would be a wonderful low maintenance car for your son or daughter for college. It is safe, well made and the red block B230F engines are known to run for hundreds of thousands of miles. The car does not smoke and I get 5500 miles per 3/4 of a quart of oil. I use 10-30 Mobil One. No accident history and no rust. Underside is clean. The car does have a few dents that are not bad and will not photograph well. A good "Dent Doctor" could remove them. I am selling this car for I just do not use it enough to justify keeping it. Do remember that this is not a museum piece or show car. It has the usual wear and tear for a car of this age. In summary, a very nice reasonably priced last year Volvo 240. These are bound to become classics if they are not already and the color of dark charcoal grey makes this car a standout. I have the owners manual and 2 sets of keys. Very clean Volvo 240. No rust. 1590 of 1600 of the CLASSIC series (last batch produced in 1993). Always well taken care of and really fun to drive. I use it every week for small distances and one or two trips every summer. Has winter Good Year tires on the 240 Classic mags and 4 Good Years summer tires on the Virgo wheels. Lots of new parts as I am very picky on the mechanical condition of my cars. 115 000 miles (191 000 KM) on the clock and 15 000 miles more since it stopped working in the fall of 2013. Just to name a few things that were changed: complete exhaust system (from manifold to the end), all 4 brakes, gas tank and both pumps, timing belt and all other belts, head gasket, engine mounts and so on. A\C does not work. Airbag system needs new module. You won't be disappointed. Car is now also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction any time. The remaining balance is due within 5 calendar days of making the deposit. You must fax or email us your State issued driver’s license after you make the deposit. Storage Terms: Once the auction/sale completed, we will store the vehicle free of charge for six (6) calendar days and at 20 dollars per day after that.
