1982 Volvo 242 GLT Turbo. It is a 2 door coupe. This car has the very rare B21FT 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and M46 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive (essentially a 5-speed). Options include: Working sunroof, power locks, power windows, AC. Factory intercooler and Volvo "turbo plus" kit (provides extra boost at higher RPM's). Runs and drives. This 242 has 4 fairly new tires, recent tune up including spark plugs, cap & rotor, and plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil change (has always had synthetic oil), and front end alignment, some suspension bushings, new muffler and tailpipe installed. Some of the upgrades include: IPD sway bars front and rear, upper and lower "GT" strut braces from IPD, and Bilstein shocks and struts. Remote oil filter kit. VDO turbo boost gauge. Newer exhaust manifold from a later Volvo B230FT. It does have some rust as can be seen in the photos. The drivers rear floor has some rust, the rockers, wheel wells, and behind the wheels have some rust as does the leading edge of the hood. All common areas. Patch panels are widely available for these. This car deserves to be restored and appreciated. The car is registered in Delaware and driven daily at the moment. It will need injector seals in the future. It runs a little rough at idle. This is a common issue on the K Jet cars, and a simple and inexpensive repair. The links below are for YouTube videos that will tell you everything I miss here... I've owned this car since Sept of 2013 and driven it a ton for all sorts of travel. I commuted to NC from NJ at least five or six times in that period, most recently about five weeks ago. I used it as regular local transport all during that time. I've driven it to NY and SC and PA and MA and other places I don't remember. I've put two new tires on eight months ago (now on the rear) the fronts are about 65% good remaining. I've replaced the alternator, valve cover gasket, ignition wires and tuned it in the last 12 months. The end of the wiring harness attaching to the alternator has been redone. The car has done more sitting than driving over the last seven months (hence why the tires on the rear still look close to new) but I've kept it up and it runs well up to 90 mph. (You are NOT allowed to ask how I know that...) Look at the pictures and the video links for complete knowledge on condition and considerations. Looks good, drives great for the age, VERY easy to maintain and that's why I own these often. (this would be my fourth) If you're looking for a Volvo 240 to restore or just kick until it gives up the ghost, there's plenty to consider in this one. I've been servicing and rebuilding diesel Mercedes of the early '80's, VW's from the 70's and Volvo's from the '90's for three decades now and I use those three platforms because they a) last forever b) are exceptional cars to restore or just drive cheaply and c) they can be deeply enjoyed at almost any level of 'running well' The mileage on this one is completely unknown to me because the odometer wasn't working when I bought it! That didn't bother me because this became one of a stable of seven cars we own for college kids and myself to 'tool around the USA' in. I can tell you that I wouldn't hesitate to drive this thing across the USA today, it runs that well. There is NO unusual oil loss or smoke from the tailpipe. (1/2qt of oil low every TEN tankfuls...MAYBE??? Really sound oil consumer.) There's AC but I've never used it. Expect a new condenser is needed but I didn't care to do. It does come on but the belts squeal too much for me to use without actually paying maintenance attention to. If I can't fix something completely I usually don't use that feature until I can. MANUAL sunroof (which I love more than anything else on this car!) but the crank needs a little 'playing with it' to work perfectly...it ALWAYS works in both directions, just needs fiddling with the crank (OR you can replace the crank mechanism...again, it didn't bother me this way.) During a 'tightening' of the speaker mount in the passenger door, the switch wiring for the front passenger window must have been jostled because it isn't working by any switch at the moment. That motor is fine, it DID work before the speaker was remounted it's just going to take removal of the door liner to find where the connection is grounding/undone. All other motors, windows that I can think of here work to my recollection. There are heated seats but a kid left those ON one day last winter and it drained the battery to zero on a sub-20 degree day. I removed the fuse for that circuit once, replaced it to find that they were left on once in the summer and have since removed it on a permanent basis. Those should come right back when the fuse is replaced but...and this probably should go as a 'caveat emptor' statement for the entire car...you are buying a Volvo that is 25 years old. If you know these cars, you know the quality of this example just from the photos and videos. If you are expecting new or "nothing needed to make it as good as new" please do us both a favor and skip this auction altogether. This car was listed a few months ago and the high bidder 'disappeared' so I just kept it and made it run even better for a few more months. See the pictures, see the video. All accessory parts were American-sourced if possible (Ward 1/8" black metal pips, for example). Sunroof: manual crank style doesn't leak except in high powered car washes. Typically corroded Volvo aluminum alloy wheels with full size matching spare tire. Custom trim-matched light brown fabric dash cover covers the usual dash crack(s). The car is very fun, pulls great, sounds great, cruises smoothly down the highway, and is reliable. I drive it semi regularly on a 60+ mile commute to school and I take it to work all the time. People are always interested in the car when I'm out and always have questions. On to some of the details: Engine: o 1986 Mustang GT bottom end (flat top pistons) o Stock H.O cam o GT40P (4 bar) heads from a 5.0 Explorer o Trickflow dual valve springs o 1.7 Crane Cobra roller rockers o Stainless steel shorty headers o HEI distributor with Accel coil and module. Jegs 8mm wires o Holley 650 double pumper on Edelbrock performer rpm intake, Fresh rebuild on the Holley. o Explorer 5.0 front dress o Quickfuel electric fuel pump and Quickfuel fuel pressure regulator o Radiator is a heavy duty Volvo 3 row that has had the water necks switched to better work with the 5.0 inlet and outlets o 1989 f150 11" flywheel o Foxbody motor mounts Transmission/drivetrain o Tremec T5 and bellhousing out of a 1999 v6 mustang (the torque/power ratings are the same as the old v8 world class t5s) I used one of these because they have less miles and they bolt up to a 302 with no issue as long as you use a 11 inch flywheel. o MGW short shifter that will come with the standard and race handle, really crisp and direct throws. This is my favorite shifter I've ever used and I've driven a lot of manual cars, from econoboxes to exotics. o Clutch is from a v6 mustang of the same year as the transmission. The clutch is smooth, light, and linear. It's very nice to drive in traffic. It is rated to 330ft-lbs if i recall correctly. o Ford racing clutch fork o V6 mustang driveshaft with an adapter to the Volvo rear end. The suspension and brakes are stock, except that the front sway bar is removed because it didn't clear the double sump foxbody oil pan. I recently installed new struts and strut mounts as well as new tie rods and one lower ball joint( I can't remember which). Tires are in ok shape. No power steering but the steering isn't very hard so I never felt the need to install it. I do have the the power steering and A/C bracket (and hardware), along with a good power steering pump and A/C compressor to go with the car, and the Volvo Condensor if you would like to install A/C in the car. You just need custom A/C lines made. The body itself is fairly rare, (how many 2 door 240's have you seen lately), and it has a working sunroof with no leaks! The body is mostly rust free, the only area with real issue is where the spare tire sits in the trunk and some of the trunk floor (fairly common on 240s), no structural rust or anything bad. The paint is rough as you can tell by the pictures. The headlights and grill came off an earlier 240 and are somewhat rare just because there's not that many around. I also have a pair of large rectangular e code headlights that I could let go with the car for the right price. The interior is mostly complete and in decent shape, the seats are comfortable and original . No speedometer, just a tach, volts, oil pressure and water temp. Power windows work. I know I'm forgetting some stuff since there is so much. I did all of the work myself except the exhaust. The wiring is simple and there's tons of space in the engine bay to work. I love the car but life gets in the way sometimes and it has to go unfortunately. I have the original 86 heads and efi intake to go with the car as well if you would like those. Hello and Thanks for looking at my Volvo. I know that I am going to regret selling this car. But I have started a TR6 project and need the garage space. This is a super straight rust free California Volvo GT. It has never been in an accident and has an extremely nice respray over its original paint. At the time of the paint job, the doors, hood, glass, trunk-lid and glass were removed. The factory stripes have been correctly reapplied. The bumpers, trim and moldings have been replaced or refinished. It has a new windshield and seal. The car currently has an early GT front spoiler installed which I prefer. I have the correct 1980 spoiler that will be included in the sale. The car looks fantastic and can be shown or enjoyed. Your choice. It has cold A/C and a nice period correct radio. It has a very nice, rebuilt GT instrument panel with LED lighting. Everything works as it should, Headlights, fog lights, heat, A/C, wipers, radio, turn signals, sunroof (no leaks), lighter, side lights, gauges, overdrive, etc. all operate properly. The car has a new from the manifold back exhaust system. And new front struts, strut mounts and alignment as well. It leave a small oil spot from time to time that I suspect is the oil pan gasket. The car starts easily and settles into a nice idle. It accelerates, steers, shifts, stops, sounds, smells just the way Volvo intended. It has a new water pump, timing belt, fuel filter and transmission service within the last 3000 miles. It is a pleasure to drive and could easily make it from coast to coast. The wheels shown in the pictures are new Lenso 17 x 7.5 mesh with new Pirelli 225/45/17 tires and are available for and extra $800. They have no clearance issues and look fantastic. Otherwise the car will be sold with the original Volvo Virgo wheels and decent stock sized tires. The interior is extremely nice with no cuts or tears. The dash has no cracks and the car has never been smoked in. The headliner and carpeting is perfect. The passenger door latch requires a little more effort than is standard and could use an adjustment. Additionally, the driver's window regulator has a vibration as the window goes up and down. It functions fine but I have a new regulator to be installed at some point. I have a lot of receipts going back to the original bill of sale from VIP Motorcars in Palm Springs California dated 9/27/80. As well as the original owners manual. These cars are getting very difficult to find. One in this condition is rare. Low miles, accident free, no rust, perfect paint, original unmodified. My asking price is very reasonable. This car has had all major service and maintence done by 2 Excellent Volvo Specialized Independent ASE Volvo Certified Master Tech shops; Hubbard Woods Motors, Winnetka, IL and The Swedish Solution in Orange, OH. I purchased the car from the Owner of Hubbard Woods Motors a specialist in Volvos and working on Volvos only.The car belonged to the Owner's mother and was sold because she was too old to drive. Red Block Volvo engine is amazing as you know engines last 250K+, This engine burns no oil and delivers 20-24mpg+ highway mileage. Idles smooth and starts VERY reliably. Installed an IPD Massive, Heavy Duty, Alloy Anti-Sway bar designed for the 240 Turbo which gives a profound improvement in handling. Handles more like a stiff authoritative sports car drive that can take 25mph exit ramps at double that speed in complete control. I am a very conservative driver and drive for safety and longevity of my cars. Installed; IPD Poly Bushings in front end, Bilstein B6 Heavy Duty shock absorption installed on all 4 wheels: Yellow Struts in Front and Shocks in Rear, Metal Braided Brake Hoses front and rear, K&N filter.Installed a new Interstate Battery 3 months ago.A new timing belt was installed at 94,000 miles. New fuel pump, sender and return line recently. Moble 1 and OEM Mann filter change zero miles ago! Included in this sale is an extra set of (4) Volvo rims with very good condition, mounted, Yokohama Avid tires with 3/4+ tread remaining as pictured. A/C needs repair. Heater works great. Volvo's 240 model was so well done that it was produced for 18 years, and it is still well regarded today. Check out this 2013 artcle from Road and Track. Nice examples are getting harder and harder to find, and we have a VERY nice one right here. This 1992 Wagon has just 100,126 original miles on it (about 4300 miles per year on average). It is in excellent condition and it runs and drives great. Please read through our description and look at all of the pictures. Call or email us if you have any questions at all. The exterior of the car is in excellent shape. The paint shines all around, and there are no notable dents or dings. The seats have no holes or tears, and the carpets, dash, and door panels are all very nice. The rear seat is clean, roomy and comfortable. Very clean Volvo 240. No rust. 1590 of 1600 of the CLASSIC series (last batch produced in 1993). Always well taken care of and really fun to drive. I use it every week for small distances and one or two trips every summer. Has winter Good Year tires on the 240 Classic mags and 4 Good Years summer tires on the Virgo wheels. Lots of new parts as I am very picky on the mechanical condition of my cars. 115 000 miles (191 000 KM) on the clock and 15 000 miles more since it stopped working in the fall of 2013. Just to name a few things that were changed: complete exhaust system (from manifold to the end), all 4 brakes, gas tank and both pumps, timing belt and all other belts, head gasket, engine mounts and so on. A\C does not work. Airbag system needs new module. You won't be disappointed. Car is now also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction any time. Running from 1974 to 1993, Volvo sold 2.8 million of these cars, and there are still a lot on the road due to their extreme longevity. There just are not so many available for sale as folks tend to keep them for so long. This example is a 2 owner, Southern car that has been here in Greensboro with the same owner since 1994. It is one of the best examples of a 240 sedan we have seen in a long time. It is still very original and complete. There is no rust and the exterior is in better than average condition. There are no dents or damage to mention. The paint is even, shiny and very good - it appears to be either excellent original or redone extremely well. The only real exterior litem to note is that the glue is showing where the body side molding have been reattached. The interior is still bright, clean and comfortable, even the driver seat which are normally more worn in these cars. The original door map pockets are still intact which is a great indicator of a careful owner. The only let downs inside are that the rear deck carpet has faded, and there is a small burn hole in the passenger seat - which is odd as this car does not otherwise appear or smell to have been smoked in. Everything works as it should, including the a/c which is one of the reasons to buy a '93 model (since it came with modern R134A freon) From the first test drive, it was very clear that this Volvo is a true low mileage car that has also been properly maintained over the years. The maintenance log book backs this up, with notes all the way to 138k miles showing regular oil changes and service. Our preparation for sale was all really normal age related items such as: oil change, valve cover gasket replaced, cam seals replaced, spark plugs and wires replaced, brake fluid flush, 4 new tires, transmission service, state inspection, new sun visor clips, and a detail. The maintenance book, owners manual, and 6 keys are present. This will be a great car for someone who wants a nice example of a 240. We typically sell these 240's either to folks who are into them, or to families for their young drivers since they are such safe, reliable cars that don't go very fast.
