This very rare 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo Special Edition with the Y84 and WS6 package, it has the Pontiac original window sticker, build sheet, PHS docs, car fax, sales brochure and other docs. Just 9604 turbo Trans Am’s were built for 1980 and 1981. This car was built in California and spent in entire life in great care. Please take time to look at all the pictures.In 1981 the Trans Am was the last of the Trans Am’s starring role in the 1977 Burt Reynolds action-comedy Smokey and the Bandit. This car is nice inside, out, and underneath looks very nice and for being all original, still retains the original exhaust I believe. It has all the original metal on the car and has only one repaint to the rare factory Black and Gold bandit paint colors. It was owned by the previous owner for many years, it has always been a well cared for car. We believe the miles are actual of only 116,000, but we have no other proof of that and will be sold miles exempt because of the age, but does look like it is actual and according to the car fax. The paint is the special edition Black with Gold bird and pin striping, the color combo is stunning. The car has a very nice paint job on it and is very straight down the sides with very minimum showing of age. All decals and trim is nice with a little peeling here and there nothing that takes away from the great looks. Overall the car looks great and can be used and enjoyed as is, have a very rare and very collectible Trans Am with all correct docs and components that will only go up in value. The drive train is all original the 4.9 liter 301ci Turbo motor starts and runs very nice, drives very nice. The car comes with a 3-speed automatic transmission making it very drivable with the stock rear end. Newer raised white letter radials have been mounted on factory correct Pontiac honeycomb wheels. Like everything else, the interior is very nice with new seat covers and carpet. It has Camel Tan bucket seat interior. The car has the factory Power steering and disc brakes, tilt wheel, power windows and locks, power trunk release, cruise control. The Bandit also has the rare factory T-Top roof panels. I believe it has every factory option that was available in 1981. The factory radio is missing. Dash, door panels, carpet, headliner, sun visors, steering wheel, etc, etc everything is nice. More important, the Trans Am Turbo was the last scion of a proud lineage stretching back to the days of Bunkie Knudsen, Pete Estes, and John DeLorean — the last real Pontiac V8 and, by some standards, the last of the real Pontiacs This car is nice everywhere you look, great for local cruise-ins and a few local shows and should get a trophy or two, I would encourage anyone who wants to buy this car to come and inspect this car it looks better in person than the pictures show. 1979 Special Edition Trans Am 400 4 speed car! With only 1107 built. From the 100,000 Trans Am models built for the 1979 year. That means less than 2 percent were Bandit 4 speed cars. Even fewer had the deluxe Hobnail interior and even less were the desired all black. This car also has all of the best options: WS6, A/C, PW, PS, P 4 Wheel Disc Brakes/ Posi-Trac, Map light group. Also included with the car is the PHS packet that proves the pedigree of this rare car! The body is very rust free being a West Coast car. Solid rockers, frame rails, wheel arches, floor boards, etc.) The car seems to have had a basic repaint years ago. The engine in the car is not correct and doesn't run, as it is a 455 YF motor if I remember right. So I sourced the exact W72 4 speed A/C 400 engine from a 1979 Trans Am a complete PWH motor. This comes with the car and is on a pallet at my home. These motors are extremely hard to find as they stockpiled only 8000 motors for the 1979 model year. The good thing is any PWH 1979 motor is date, and vehicle correct. The only non-match would be the motor VIN the rest is absolute 100 percent correct. This engine even has all of the correct parts even the special numbers matching carburetor used for the W72. Engine will need to be refurbished etc. 4 Speed transmission is the original and numbers matching. Overall the car is an easy restoration even the dash is decent. This car is gorgeous and reasonably priced. This car is a true, Y-82, W-72 Bandit as documented by PHS. It does not retain its original matching numbers engine but it does have a Pontiac 400, 4-Speed block and is in great shape. This car drives great and has a functional shaker scoop. We have never seen that on a 77 Trans Am but it works and looks cool when you punch the accelerator. The car runs strong and will easily smoke the tires but drives very nicely down the road if you are taking out for a weekend cruise. Want to use it as your daily driver? The factory air conditioning cools very nicely and the car does not overheat. Even in the 100F+ temperatures we have been having here in Houston, Texas. I took this car out for several drives of 20 miles or more and the car performed very well. I stayed very cool with the windows rolled up. Also, the aftermarket sound system plays very nicely as well. This car is a great daily driver and can be taken to any car show where you will be proud to show it off. The car is not perfect but the car is in very good condition. The car is solid with no major rust issues anywhere to be found. We would probably repaint the rear bumper if we keep it for the longer term and the T-tops are not in perfect shape but they are original to the car. The interior is in very good restored condition. The dash is in excellent shape with no cracks that we have seen anywhere on it. There are just too many great things to say about this car that I am sure we left something out. Finished in glossy Starlight Black paint with gold graphics, this Trans Am is a nod to the SE cars we grew to love in our youth. Bodywork is very straight, which is critical in a black car, and gaps are good all around. Even the deck lid spoiler fits well, something that was even hard to get right when the cars were new. The unmistakable gold firebird decal on the hood was the car's defining styling element, and it is in excellent shape, as are the rest of the decals which appear new. Those decals continue the homage to an SE car with correct German script 'Trans Am' lettering, gold decals, and gold headlight inserts. Black was the interior of choice with your all-black Trans Am, and it looks simply amazing in this car. The cloth seats are supple and comfortable, and there are no splits or tears anywhere in the interior. Door panels are also excellent, and the carpets are undamaged by the sun or wear. The gauges are all fully functional, and live inside a dashboard dressed up by Pontiac's traditional, gold machine turned gauge panel which remains bright. An Alpine AM/FM/CD player, air conditioning, power windows, and a center console round out the impressive list of equipment in this Trans Am, and a beautiful gold, 3-spoke steering wheel tops a tilting column. As a non-T-top car, the structure is stiffer and more rigid, and the interior is largely free of the squeaks and rattles that often plague the open cars. In 1978, the 400 was rated to make 220 horsepower, and could be paired with either the 4-speed manual or automatic transmission, as in this car. The horses are increased by a mild cam and the engine has been coated in Pontiac Turquoise paint that carries chrome valve covers, and a shaker-style hood scoop. The rest of the engine bay is exceptionally clean, and there are no signs of rust or accident repairs, everything appears new and fresh.
