The 1956 models in particular are the archetypal 1950s cruisers, with the spare moved outside, a more powerful V8 under the hood, and a top that goes down. Thanks to just two owners who always ensured that it was ready to hit the road on a moment's notice, it's in just the right shape for your next road trip. Code L Peacock Blue was new for 1956, but nobody can argue that it doesn't look great. It says "L" on the trim tag, making Peacock Blue the original color, and the bright pastel finish looks exactly right on the 2-seater's famous shape. The paint job is older and the car has been driven on a pretty normal basis, but that doesn't diminish the Thunderbird's appeal one bit. Gaps are quite good, particularly for a convertible, and you'll note this is one of those rare Thunderbirds that was delivered without fender skirts (they were actually optional). Up close you can see a few signs of age, but you won't notice from the driver's seat, nor will the folks watching you drive by with envy in their hearts ever notice. Chrome and trim are good, with details that make the first-generation Thunderbird so special. Check out the vent doors in the front fenders, the chrome spare tire cover, and, of course, the Thunderbird script on the quarters. It all looks quite good. The code XC Peacock Blue and White interior works perfectly with the bright blue paint. Again, it shows some signs of use and age, but really needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately. The bench seat wears a recent seat cover that looks bright and clean with very little evidence of use. The carpets demonstrate minimal signs that they've spent the past few years in a convertible, and we're guessing they were replaced about the time the seat was redone. The door panels, with their two-tone vinyl faces and lovely engine-turned inserts, blend almost seamlessly into the dash, which features a big speedometer flanked by a tachometer and a clock. A modern AM/FM radio has been fitted to the center of the dash, that's the factory-issued steering wheel, and the slender wind wings keep it comfortable inside at highway speeds even with the top down. And speaking of the top, this car is equipped with a white folding top and the trunk has been carpeted to match the interior. Ford's erstwhile 312 cubic inch Y-block V8 provides power for all early 2-seat Thunderbirds, and over the years it has proven to be both reliable and plenty sporting for the 'Bird's luxury mission. Obviously this one was rebuilt a few years ago and driven since, but it's as reliable as ever. Wearing a factory dress-up kit with chrome air cleaner and finned valve covers there's no question about what kind of car this is. It's linked to a rebuilt Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear end, and with a mellow-sounding dual exhaust system, it's one of the best vintage cruisers you can own. Experts will note that the exhaust has been routed under the rear bumper instead of through it, which helps keep the chrome bright and shiny. It rides on 205/75/15 Goodyear whitewall radials wrapped around factory wheel covers. Early Thunderbirds have always been great cars, and this one delivers on the promise of comfortable first-class accommodations for two on the open road. One is a Model A Ford, and the other is an early 2-seater Thunderbird. We would like to recommend this 1955 Thunderbird as a candidate for your garage, with its classic color combination and a restoration that's accurate but not too nice to enjoy as intended. You can spend more for a trailer queen, but the real appeal in the early 'Bird is getting in and having an adventure. It's what sold them when they were new and their V8 power and comfortable suspension make them outstanding road trip candidates. And when they're painted Thunderbird Blue (which is this car's original color, by the way), they have a timeless appeal that looks right and never goes out of style. As I said, the work is a few years old, but it's holding up quite well thanks to quality work and excellent care since it was completed. For many, the simplicity of the first-year Thunderbirds is immensely appealing, and the even gaps and straight panels on this one certainly emphasize the clean design. Interestingly enough, fender skirts were optional, and without them, this car takes on a sporting look that's very Continental. However, as a product of the '50s, there's still plenty of brightwork that was thoroughly restored with the rest of the car. It's not perfect, but it's extremely nice throughout with nothing jumping out as either too old or too nice. It also carries a correct code C turquoise and white interior that adds plenty of flash, but in a traditional Thunderbird style. The interior is quite stylish, with a power bench seat that loosely emulates a pair of buckets, and it's quite good overall, needing little more than a good deep cleaning to be ready to show at almost any level. The instrument panel shows off the "anything goes" optimism of the 1950s, with a wide band of bright engine-turned metal, a speedometer backlit by a clear plexiglass panel, and a tachometer, all of which are in good condition with clear markings. The original AM radio is still in the center of the dash, and remarkably enough, it remains fully functional. You may also be interested to learn that a soft top was a no-cost option over the hard top in 1955, and this one wears a snug-fitting white folding top that looks great and vanishes behind the seat for a clean look. The trunk is outfitted with a correct mat and reproduction jacking label. All Thunderbirds in 1955 used a 292 cubic inch V8, and while the dress-up kit was a dealer-installed option, I can't recall ever seeing one without it, probably because it looks so good. Combined with the bright red engine enamel, the finned valve covers and chrome air cleaner make the engine bay really sparkle. Correct reproduction hoses and proper clamps add a period-perfect look and it runs extremely smoothly, as you'd expect for a luxury-oriented cruiser. Even the exhaust manifolds are in reasonably good shape, feeding a dual exhaust system with a muted V8 hum. The 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission shifts well and with 3.00 gears, it's a great cruiser in the city or on the highway. The rule is that special cars will always be special, and this 1957 Thunderbird shows you why. It's the ideal combination of appealing looks and great-driving hardware, a show and go car that never wanted to ride on a trailer and instead just likes to cruise. Refinished about four years ago in its original Starmist Blue, this is a great-looking '57 'Bird. It's a somewhat unusual color, perfect for the pastel '50s but a refreshing change from red, white, or black. The workmanship in the repaint is nice overall, with a few signs of use because, as I said, this car was a fair-weather driver for many years, which is exactly how it should be. On the other hand, it does not appear to have ever been wrecked or a rust bucket, so major surgery was probably not necessary to get it into shape. As a result, the doors feel solid, the fender skirts fit well, and the hood sits flush. The peaked fins are attractive and the trim around the jet-exhaust taillights looks bright and crisp. In fact, all the brightwork looks great, with some of it being restored and some of it being excellent original stuff. It's not a show winner, but it really looks great going down the road. Likewise, the interior is a mixture of restored components and originality, blending into a comfortable, casual driver's environment that's ideal for Sunday morning drives. The two-tone blue is a great choice and looks right in the light blue 'Bird and the seat covers, carpets, and door panels are all quite presentable overall. The gauges are original and with the exception of the tachometer, they're all fully functional, and the big steering wheel is covered with a blue leather wrap to make it easier to grab. Seat belts have been added for safety and Thunderbird logo floor mats keep everything looking tidy. There's a brand new blue canvas convertible top that fits better than the original and a correct white porthole hardtop which is the combination specified on the door tag. The trunk is outfitted with a new mat and a matching full-sized spare with jack assembly. The 312 cubic inch V8 is a reliable partner in the Thunderbird, offering smooth, unobtrusive performance when you're cruising, but plenty of grunt to move with vigor when needed. The problematic "teapot" carburetor is gone, replaced by a 4-barrel Holley, which is a very smart upgrade, but the rest of the engine bay is largely stock. It wears the usual dress-up kit, Ford Red engine enamel, and correct cork gasket for the hood scoop. Power steering is a welcome addition on any old car and makes this Thunderbird easy to drive around town and all the belts and hoses are new. A recent tune up puts it in great operating condition, so it starts easily and purrs along with a crisp burble from the recent dual exhaust system. A 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission clicks through the gears and the 3.00 gears out back make it a fine long-distance tourer. The underside is probably original, but there are no red flags or major issues waiting for you and it sits on correct bias-ply wide whites for a period look. A nice driver-grade early 'Bird with an unusual color combination and a lot of charm. If you're looking for an easy way to enjoy old cars, it's still hard to beat a Thunderbird. I have a 1969 T-Bird For Sale with the Power Sunroof Option. 700 MADE BY FORD MOTER COMPANY... ONLY ABOUT 150 OF THESE CARS ARE LEFT IN THE WORLD. This car is red with the white top and red interior and has 54286 miles on it. The motor and trans is out and have all the parts to put this engine back together.( standard bore) All the engine parts have been cleaned up and painted ford blue and others have been painted flat black. The trans is redone/the heads are redone/cam and crank are just cleaned up by Bullet racing cams and are standard. Got everything new with new lifter and roller rockers and other new engine parts. Note: Needs a set of pistons////// I have the original piston but 4 of them have sieged rings in them. This is a fine virgin car and needs a paint job and put back together. This car body is real straight with a couple dents. SEE ALL PHOTOS This is a 90% rust free car. The only rust on this car is rust on the left quarter panel. Don't know when it was replaced and needs some work.. The interior is in great condition and needs some cleaning up and the head liner needs some attention. I can send more photo's if anybody is interested in this hot rod sleeper. The doors/truck and hood shut like new.
