It also offers a great color combination, almost every available option, and a lifetime of care that shows everywhere you look. Silver makes the Thunderbird look sleek, not vintage, and that's a nice contrast to all the pastel 'Birds you see running around. For a car that's been around for more than a decade now, the finish is in remarkable condition, a testament to both the care it has received and the fact that it was never used as a daily driver. It has never been wrecked and like probably every one of its siblings, it has never seen winter weather, so rust is a complete non-issue. Build quality on these cars was quite good, with sharp gaps all around and doors that close with a solid sound, rather well done for a car with a convertible top. The vintage T-Bird look is still there in small doses, particularly up front where there's a nice chrome grille and hood scoop, while out back, the big, round taillights are a 21st century take on Ford's favorite jet-age styling feature. Beautiful Thunderbird emblems resemble the originals with their inlaid turquoise details and a few well-chosen bits of chrome give this 'Bird an upscale feel. If you're going to pick nits, there's a small scuff on the rear bumper, but overall this car is really impressively clean for its age. The tan leather interior is a nice contrast to the silver paint and it's far more comfortable in the sun than black. It also appears to be years younger and miles fresher than you'd expect, with seats showing only very minor wear. The matching leather-wrapped steering wheel is similarly nice and there are zero modifications inside. Of course, on Ford's flagship, everything was standard, so you get ice cold A/C, power windows, locks, mirrors, and seats, cruise control, heated seats, and a great-sounding stereo that works well top up or top down. There were several different dashboard finishes available, with this one wearing brushed silver accents that look great with the white-faced gauges and turquoise pointers. It's strictly a 2-seater, but there's a well-finished package shelf behind the seats and a good-sized trunk that's fully upholstered in as-new condition. And like the 'Birds of the past, this one offers both a tan convertible top (power assisted, of course) as well as a matching porthole hardtop. The only engine available in the late-model 'Birds was a 3.9 liter DOHC V8 that delivered the kind of effortless performance that made the original so popular. It's not a racer, but it's competent and has a great V8 growl thanks to a modified exhaust system that dumped the rear resonators. It starts easily, idles smoothly, and moves the tidy convertible with gusto but never threatens to get unruly. A 5-speed automatic transmission was the only choice, and it, too, specializes in always being in the right gear without attracting a lot of attention. An all-independent suspension handles well but doesn't jostle occupants and the 4-wheel discs are powerful. In short, all the hardware is dedicated to making your drive as effortless as possible without taking away any of the fun. Handsome polished wheels are in great shape and now carry 235/50/17 Yokohama radials. This Thunderbird neatly balances price and quality with fun and comfort, making it a great choice for a late-model hobby car. For those of you looking for one to simply drive and enjoy (you know, like you're supposed to), this 2004 Thunderbird may be a better fit. It's beautifully preserved, but it's been driven and enjoyed resulting in a very affordable price that puts you in an A-list collectable for a fraction of the price of all the others. If you're looking for a convertible to enjoy, it's hard to beat a bright red two-seater. When Ford reintroduced the Thunderbird, they knew that the things that made the originals so popular would still work today, so there's definitely a familial resemblance there. And while this one is the rare Thunderbird that's been driven and enjoyed, it has obviously not been abused and has not seen inclement weather, so it still looks fantastic. Obviously the body fit is done to factory standards since it's never been apart or wrecked, and the factory paint on the Thunderbirds was actually extremely good thanks to the special dedicated assembly line that built them; obviously they could afford to take a little extra time on their halo car. Someone has taken exceptional care of this one, because it defies the past decade and looks quite fresh with a smooth finish that suggests a lot of Saturday afternoons spent buffing and waxing the paint. No, it's not perfect, but the chrome bumper shines up well, the nose hasn't been sandblasted, and the shine is deep. Nice! The black leather interior is classic and understated and works very well with the bright red paint job. Ford gave the seats a retro-looking vertical pleat that was definitely a tip-of-the-hat to the original, but nothing in the 1950s was as comfortable and well-outfitted as this car. Just about everything was standard on the Thunderbird, including power windows, seats, and locks, A/C (now with all-new components), and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system with CD changer. This one also carries heated seats so you can extend top-down weather into the autumn months. White-faced gauges look classic and elegant, which is the Thunderbird's specialty, and the airbag cover sports a traditional Thunderbird logo with the same simulated turquoise inserts that the original wore. As with the exterior, everything remains in excellent shape, including the black power canvas convertible top and nicely finished trunk. The Thunderbird received the same 3.9 liter V8 as the Lincoln LS, and with smooth horsepower and plenty of effortless torque, it's the right choice. This was never intended to be a sports car, but instead it gathers speed without working hard and makes a subdued V8 hum that sounds right. Having proven itself over the last decade, it turns out that this engine is incredibly reliable and in this car, the ultra-clean engine runs superbly. The 5-speed automatic transmission is seamless in operation, working in harmony with the all-independent suspension to deliver that easy cruising feeling that just works. It's also quite competent, willing to hustle in the twisties and you'll be relieved to feel the powerful disc brakes with ABS at all four corners, there to bail you out of trouble. Shiny chrome alloys with recent Continental radials are low-noise, high-comfort pieces that fit the car well. So let the other guys worry about their low-mile "investments," you'll be having too much fun actually driving your Thunderbird to care. Nice 1962 Ford Thunderbird Landau Edition 67k original documented miles, 390 "z code" V8. Thunderbirds from this era are steadily climbing in value, especially the 1961 through 1963 body styles. This is from Hagerty.com: "Ford followed up the Squarebird’s three-year stint with the restyled “Roundbird” or "Bullet Bird" from 1961 to 1963. Technical highlights included an even bigger engine as Dearborn’s FE V-8 was enlarged to 390 cubic inches in ’61. New for 1962 was the optional “Z-code” 390. The special edition vinyl "Landau Top" accented the sleek body lines even further. These second generation 61-63 'Birds are steadily climbing in value, and the ahead-of-its-time style is finally being appreciated." Mechanical: the Bird has always had regular maintenance have been performed on schedule. Recent work includes tuneup, brakes, water pump and radiator as well as belts and hoses. Included documentation goes back many years, showing the 67k as original mileage. I was told the motor has about 30k on it, it having been rebuilt by the in the late 90's. I don't have documentation for the motor rebuild but for most of everything else, including a transmission rebuild. The heater works, the AM radio is intermittent and the clock does not work. The gas gauge and horn work, as do the wipers and lights. The car has recently been gone through mechanically and runs and drives well. The swing-away steering wheel works, but the car will only start in neutral (Ebay sells a kit to repair the neutral safety switch on these cars, it's a common issue). All crank windows work easily. No leaks from anywhere, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. Cosmetic: The car was painted about two years ago, it'a nice and shiny. The body and underside are clean, the car has always been garaged. New carpet in classic "loop" style and the seats were reupholstered when the car was painted. Dash has some sun cracking but otherwise the interior is complete, including all console parts including compartment doors. The chrome and brightwork are all in good driver shape, some pitting and dulling in spots. I am including brand new NOS vinyl top as well as a headliner, all still boxed up. I will include an complete NOS trunk liner kit as well. The pix are from when I bought the car last year; all the trim is back on it now. All floors, trunk and frame are solid, never repaired. Overall she's very straight as you can see in the pix, all the door close easily as well as the trunk and hood. The Bird starts right up even after sitting and the engine has a nice rumble through the dual exhaust. Runs very strong, the 390 V8 is a pleasure on the highway. She idles evenly, temperature needle never varies, shifts smoothly, tracks straight and stops easily. A very dependable Thunderbird that's fun to take to car shows and can be used as a daily driver. I had planned on completing the cosmetic restoration but I must sell due to finances. I have a 1969 T-Bird For Sale with the Power Sunroof Option. 700 MADE BY FORD MOTER COMPANY... ONLY ABOUT 150 OF THESE CARS ARE LEFT IN THE WORLD. This car is red with the white top and red interior and has 54286 miles on it. The motor and trans is out and have all the parts to put this engine back together.( standard bore) All the engine parts have been cleaned up and painted ford blue and others have been painted flat black. The trans is redone/the heads are redone/cam and crank are just cleaned up by Bullet racing cams and are standard. Got everything new with new lifter and roller rockers and other new engine parts. Note: Needs a set of pistons////// I have the original piston but 4 of them have sieged rings in them. This is a fine virgin car and needs a paint job and put back together. This car body is real straight with a couple dents. SEE ALL PHOTOS This is a 90% rust free car. The only rust on this car is rust on the left quarter panel. Don't know when it was replaced and needs some work.. The interior is in great condition and needs some cleaning up and the head liner needs some attention. I can send more photo's if anybody is interested in this hot rod sleeper. The doors/truck and hood shut like new. NOTE: This car has been setting for the last 6 years and was a great find and I need to sell because I cant work on it or finish the awesome car. I do have a clear title.
