Everybody loves the wild Rose Mist paint, and with Buicks famous Nailhead V8 under the hood, performance is impressive for a big luxury cruiser. If you like full-sized comfort with a big dose of personality on the side, this LeSabre is the right choice. Yes, that is the original color and yes, it really is pink metallic. But you have to remember the period, with some of the 50s pastels still hanging around and the jet age starting to take off, so its a brilliant combination of the two. The massive LeSabre got a facelift in 1963 that knocked off some of the pointed edges of the previous year, giving even this brightly colored one a dignified look. Its big, no doubt about that, but there were bigger Buicks and this one delivers sporty performance without casting a shadow the size of the QEII. Paint and bodywork are quite good, certainly good enough to pull off the outrageous color, which definitely invites careful inspection. The crisp fender lines cast wonderful shadows in the paint and it proudly wears Buick venti-ports on the front fenders, an easy way to spot these cars on the roll. Rear fender skirts help with the luxury car image although theyre not original equipment. The chrome was restored with the rest of the car several years ago and has been well-maintained ever since, so its ready to enjoy. The matching interior is simply stunning. I dont know where they found the materials to restore it to factory-correct specs, but wow, what a job! Theres room for six inside and there were clearly artists at work at Buick, because like the bodywork, it wears the color without effort. Even the steering wheel is color-matched! Beautiful door panels use a variety of materials to add contrast, and the darker carpets help keep it anchored. The brushed stainless dash is pure 1960s cool with big round instruments and an updated entertainment system in the center of the dash. A new white convertible top was installed just a few months ago, and powers down with the touch of a button and stows beneath a matching vinyl boot. The trunk is as massive as youd expect, but nicely appointed with a full-sized spare and a subwoofer enclosure for the entertainment system. Buicks famous Nailhead V8 displaced 401 cubic inches in 1963. A lot of folks get confused because it says Wildcat 445 on the air cleaner, but thats a reference to the torque figure, which is no joke. This sucker moves with the effortless ease of a middleweight prizefighter. It wears correct Buick Turquoise paint on the distinctive horizontal valve covers, and accessories like power steering and brakes make it easy to drive. Buicks special Turbine-Drive automatic provides seamless shifting and youll be amazed by how easily this big ragtop gathers speed on the open road. A dual exhaust system sounds suitably muscular, and it has that traditional big Buick ride. 225/75/15 whitewall radials carry wire wheelcovers from a later Buick that still look right. Rare, unusual, and quite attractive, this is a great car for the guy who craves attention but wants to do it just a bit differently than everyone else. Call today! Subtle detailing transform the look, but most guys wont be able to say exactly what has changed, and thats exactly the point. You could actually get a red and white Buick in 1953, and the flashy colors really work well on the rounded Special sheetmetal. Hardtops were still a relatively new invention in 1953, with the Riviera creating the look in 1949 and quickly spreading throughout the in Buick lineup. This one sports a number of familiar body mods, including some shaved door handles, modified side trim, and teardrop spotlights. More advanced tweaks include the 1957 Packard taillights that are so expertly grafted onto the Buicks quarters that they look like they were born there. The paint has a wonderful shine and uses period-correct colors, so it looks like it could have been built back then, particularly the red which doesnt need metallic or other tricks to look fantastic. And whenever youre talking about a Buick, chrome is a big part of the discussion. Fortunately, this 53s toothy grin and heavy bumpers have all been nicely restored and show quite well, even keeping the tri-color Buick shield in the front bumper and bombsight hood ornament. The custom interior is even more brilliant, combining original Buick details with bucket seats and a console lifted from a 1966 Ford Thunderbird. Fully upholstered in white, it has a definite full-on custom vibe going on, and the juxtaposition of the parts means that theres OEM durability built right in. The Specials original dashboard now houses custom Dolphin white-faced gauges and a late-model GM tilt column holds a sporty LaCarrera wheel. The center stack was Buicks trademark from the late 30s, and theres still an original AM radio living up top, although its been supplanted by an AM/FM/cassette head unit underneath which actually delivers the tunes. The back seat area features the Thunderbirds wrap-around chairs that have a very inviting look and black carpets keep everything anchored. The trunk is huge, as Im sure you expect, and its nicely finished with gray fabric and a big JL Audio subwoofer and other stereo equipment. The remarkable engine bay is anchored by big time Buick power, a 455 cubic inch V8. They obviously went to extreme lengths to create an underhood area that was every bit as dramatic as the body and nailed it in a big way. The smooth fenders and firewall are painted body color to highlight the engine in the middle. All the plumbing and electrical bits have been neatly tucked out of sight and the air cleaner is a Buick piece that comes from the 50s. A big aluminum radiator, HEI ignition, power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes mean that it drives like a modern car. The undercarriage is pretty stock, with custom A-arm front suspension with power rack-and-pinion steering, a trick 1-into-2 exhaust system that sounds awesome, and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission as the noteworthy upgrades. Torque Thrust wheels look right on any 50s cruiser and carry right-sized Bridgestone radials that really stuff the big fenders. Beautifully built and amazingly well detailed, this slick Buick goes full custom without forgetting that driving is the best part of any cool car. Call today! That student originally hailed from Long Island and, during one of his trips home, decided to stop by Motion Performance for some choice modifications. And the duo promptly began a life of bare-knuckle pavement domination, eventually becoming legends in the Atlanta street racing scene. Unfortunately, priorities change and, roughly three years into its life, the car was sold to a second owner. Both that owner and its third owner pledged loving restorations which turned into years of parts storage. And finally, circa 2005, an avid Buick enthusiast, and owner of Marietta's Then and Now Auto, purchased, researched and restored the car. That restoration was, in typical Then and Now fashion, a highly detailed, rotisserie rebuild. During that rebuild, the car's body was stripped to bare metal and massaged into better-than-factory alignment. When that alignment was as close to perfect as possible, correct Saturn Yellow was decked in satin stripes, sealed in glossy clear and buffed to a super slick shine. And today, this GSX presents as a no-nonsense classic that turns heads and drops jaws! By 1970, Buick had pretty much perfected its top dog performance offering both mechanically and aesthetically. At the front of the car, a clean silver grille hangs a bold "GSX" emblem between a heavy bumper, yellow-trimmed T3s and a small chin spoiler. Behind that grille, a locked and vented hood incorporates a beefy tachometer in front of hidden wipers, Soft Ray glass and bright stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, color-keyed mirrors and traditional door handles perfectly complement small "MOTION" emblems, vivid "GSX" call-outs and dent-free fender caps. And at the back of the car, a massive bumper centers a classy "BUICK" script between clear tail lamps and a tall, "GSX" branded spoiler. While the exterior of this A-Body does an excellent job of upholding GM Design's world-class visuals, the engine compartment is where purists REALLY start to take notice. And for good reason, because the 455 cubic inch V8 that's bolted between the car's freshly detailed fenders is the kind of powerhouse that makes people put up or shut up. Turn the key and a Motion-installed Holley 3-barrel mixes air from a Motion-installed 'fly's eye' air cleaner with fuel that's supplied by two electronic, Motion-installed fuel pumps. That air/fuel mixture travels into a Motion-installed Edelbrock B4B intake which, with the help of stock GM internals, creates detuned 9.5 to 1 compression that's perfectly compatible with pump gas. Fire for that compression is provided by an Accel distributor, which shoots sparks through Mallory Ramcharger plug wires thanks to an Accel coil and Motion-installed Phase III ignition. Spent gases from that fire are jetted through Motion-installed Mickey Thompson Competition Plus headers. And cooling for that cycle is provided by a factory radiator that circulates water around an old school Frigidaire AC system via pliable hoses and correct tower clamps. Well-planned details like fresh decals, a Delco battery topper, correct Motion valve covers and an even coat of Satin Black paint prove someone spent a lot of time executing this Buick's restoration. And it all adds up to one fully-sorted road rocket which is all day reliable and nice enough to grace the front row at a national car show. Oh, and did I mention the big red engine is believed to be a factory exchange block that was pre-assembled by the pros at Motion Performance? As you might imagine, the tweaked 455 needed ample backup to effectively establish street credibility. So, Motion complemented Buick's already impressive mechanicals with a few choice components. First and foremost, this coupe's Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed has been hooked to a 12-bolt Chevrolet rear end that's fitted with a finned cover and quick, 4.10 gears. Below that drivetrain, a correct Rally Ride Control suspension is supplemented with Hurst shocks and yellow Lakewood ladder bars. Naturally, factory power steering and power front disc and rear drum brakes are present and accounted for. Exhaust flows through Motion-installed pipes and vintage Thrush mufflers. The big block's torque meets the pavement through slick Keystone mags, which spin correct G60-15 Mickey Thompson Indy Profile S/S around Motion-branded spinners. And overall, the bottom of this professionally restored classic appears to be in excellent, show worthy condition. Pop the coupe's sculpted doors and you'll find a correct Black interior that's steeped in subdued tri-shield style. Comfy seats and fade-free door panels mix with a tight headliner and stain-free carpet to provide big-time contrast to the car's Saturn Yellow exterior. In front of those seats, a straight, Motion-branded dash hangs clean Rally gauges next to a retrofitted radio delete. At the base of that dash, a simple shifter rides inside an ornate console and heavy duty, tri-shield branded floor mats. In front of the driver, a familiar Buick Rally wheel spins satin-finished spokes around a red-lined horn button. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a Mickey Thompson spare behind a chrome fire extinguisher and the aforementioned fuel pumps.
