The last of the big Buick convertibles, this 1970 Buick Electra offers all the right ingredients to make it a first-rate hobby car: big horsepower, lots of options, great colors, and just two owners from new. The fact that it\'s also very reasonably price only puts icing on an already delicious cake. Sold new in Dallas, Texas on April 22, 1970, this awesome Buick remained in the same family until 2011, when the original owner\'s widow sold it to the current owner. She obviously loved the car and over the years it has been extremely well maintained. The long, straight bodywork shows off a dramatic character line that was a Buick trademark for many years, and the look is both imposing and a bit sporting. The color is correct code 26 Stratomist Blue Iridescent, applied two years ago and showing well today. The bodywork underneath was clearly very nicely preserved and the doors fit well, the hood sits flush, and there are no signs that this car was ever rusty or abused. Plenty of chrome defined Buick\'s luxury models, and this convertible certainly qualifies, with a nicely integrated bumper/grille combination up front and a wide chrome bumper out back. The owners loved this car so much that a new front bumper emblem was custom made (repros don\'t exist) when the original was stolen. Aside from a reupholstered front bench seat, the interior of this big Buick is completely original. The tan upholstery is a nice change from the usual white you\'d find in convertibles of this vintage, and as a Buick, it\'s loaded up with features. Factory options include A/C, power windows, a tilt steering column, and a power front bench seat, with a few accessories like the leather steering wheel wrap and center console with cup holders just to make it a little more practical. There\'s a ton of stretch out room in back, making this the ultimate parade vehicle, but with a 455 under the hood, the driver gets his share of entertainment, too. The gauges cover only the basics, but everything\'s clustered in front of the driver so it\'s easy to find and use, including the factory AM/FM radio that still works like it should. The white power convertible top is simply too nice to be original, and includes a glass rear window and matching tan boot for when it\'s stowed. And like all great original cars, the trunk has no secrets and carries a full-sized spare with cover. Buick\'s 455 cubic inch V8 was a torque factory that generates effortless performance in the big Electra. Rebuilt in 1996, it doesn\'t look like a show piece but originality matters and in that regard it\'s quite good. You can still see Dante Red paint on the engine itself and the original air cleaner with \'455-4\' decals clinging to its surface. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt in 2011, the A/C was completely overhauled and converted to R134a in 2014, and it carries a new fuel pump, sway bar bushings, tie rod ends, rear wheel bearings, and master cylinder, so it\'s ready to cruise. The dual exhaust system has a mellow sound that\'s entirely appropriate to a big luxury cruiser like this, and the undercarriage certainly looks the part of a car that comes from a warm, dry place. New 235/75/15 whitewall radials were installed in 2013. Documented with the original bill of sale, Protect-O-Plate, and restoration receipts, this is a fantastic full-sized convertible that needs no excuses. The color is called Burgundy Mist and it suits the elegant coupe quite well, a little bit flashy but never ostentatious. Chrome is original and in remarkably good shape and the headlights that drop down from above the grille remain one of the coolest party tricks you'll see an old car perform. The black interior is not only an executive-class way to travel, it's 100% original, right down to the carpets. That fact alone should tell you all you need to know about how well maintained this Riv really is. Just the right amount of wood and stainless accentuates the black leather seats and a full-length console not only looks elegant but also houses the horseshoe shifter that looks every bit as cool here as it does in lesser cars. The dashboard looks expansive, but all the gauges are right in front of you, using an aircraft-style rotating drum speedometer and a full array of auxiliary gauges. The fact that it's also very reasonably price only puts icing on an already delicious cake. Sold new in Dallas, Texas on April 22, 1970, this awesome Buick remained in the same family until 2011, when the original owner's widow sold it to the current owner. She obviously loved the car and over the years it has been extremely well maintained. The long, straight bodywork shows off a dramatic character line that was a Buick trademark for many years, and the look is both imposing and a bit sporting. The color is correct code 26 Stratomist Blue Iridescent, applied two years ago and showing well today. The bodywork underneath was clearly very nicely preserved and the doors fit well, the hood sits flush, and there are no signs that this car was ever rusty or abused. Plenty of chrome defined Buick's luxury models, and this convertible certainly qualifies, with a nicely integrated bumper/grille combination up front and a wide chrome bumper out back. The owners loved this car so much that a new front bumper emblem was custom made (repros don't exist) when the original was stolen. Aside from a reupholstered front bench seat, the interior of this big Buick is completely original. The tan upholstery is a nice change from the usual white you'd find in convertibles of this vintage, and as a Buick, it's loaded up with features. Factory options include A/C, power windows, a tilt steering column, and a power front bench seat, with a few accessories like the leather steering wheel wrap and center console with cup holders just to make it a little more practical. There's a ton of stretch out room in back, making this the ultimate parade vehicle, but with a 455 under the hood, the driver gets his share of entertainment, too. The gauges cover only the basics, but everything's clustered in front of the driver so it's easy to find and use, including the factory AM/FM radio that still works like it should. The white power convertible top is simply too nice to be original, and includes a glass rear window and matching tan boot for when it's stowed. And like all great original cars, the trunk has no secrets and carries a full-sized spare with cover. Buick's 455 cubic inch V8 was a torque factory that generates effortless performance in the big Electra. Rebuilt in 1996, it doesn't look like a show piece but originality matters and in that regard it's quite good. You can still see Dante Red paint on the engine itself and the original air cleaner with '455-4' decals clinging to its surface. The TH400 3-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt in 2011, the A/C was completely overhauled and converted to R134a in 2014, and it carries a new fuel pump, sway bar bushings, tie rod ends, rear wheel bearings, and master cylinder, so it's ready to cruise. The dual exhaust system has a mellow sound that's entirely appropriate to a big luxury cruiser like this, and the undercarriage certainly looks the part of a car that comes from a warm, dry place. New 235/75/15 whitewall radials were installed in 2013. Documented with the original bill of sale, Protect-O-Plate, and restoration receipts, this is a fantastic full-sized convertible that needs no excuses. With just three owners from new (two of which were father and son) and 48,527 original miles, it's a slam-dunk for preservation competition and an affordable way to get into one of the best-looking cars of the 1960s. If not for the Corvette split-window coupe, I think everyone on earth could agree that this was the best-looking car of 1963. We won't wax rhapsodic about the beauty of Bill Mitchell's Riviera design except to say that it has withstood the test of time and still looks like a million bucks. This particular Riv still wears its factory-applied Diplomat Blue paint, which, thanks to a 3-step cut and buff looks pretty darned good. It's not perfect with 50 years of use and a few touch-ups here and there, but repainting this car would be a crime. If you want perfect, there are such cars out there, but if you're part of the growing group of enthusiasts who love original cars and preserving them, then this car delivers the goods in a big way. As a lifelong Texas car, rust is obviously a non-issue and there's no evidence of large-scale accident repair, so you know it's led a good life. There isn't a lot of chrome on the Riviera, which is a big part of its appeal, but the original brightwork is in good order with a soft shine that matches the car's personality just fine. Even the delicate chrome ribs on the big outboard parking lights shine up nicely. The Riviera's interior was a styling tour-de-force as well, with bucket seats and a sweeping, low-profile dash trimmed in brushed metal instead of fake wood. The inviting patina on the blue upholstery is perfect for the car and again would be a shame to restore, especially since there are no major splits or tears in the material. The two-tone steering wheel is nicely preserved and the gauges are shockingly clear and crisp. Options include power seats, a tilt wheel, power windows, and factory A/C, which has been converted to R134a and just seems to need a recharge. Buick's standard Sonomatic AM radio still lives at the top of the dash and the trunk is outfitted with original mats, a full-sized spare with cover, and a complete jack assembly. Buick's legendary 401 cubic inch "Nailhead" V8 made 325 horsepower in the '63 Riviera, and with seemingly endless reserves of torque, it is a lot quicker than you'd think. This one drives with the solid and complete feeling that only a well-loved original car can demonstrate, and if you've never experienced it, come try this car on for size. The engine bay isn't perfect, but it's remarkably clean and well-maintained, and thanks to a complete tune-up not too long ago, it runs superbly. There's a gentle V8 hum from the dual exhaust system that suggests great power barely held in check, and the Dynaflow automatic transmission works as advertised with seamless operation. Clean Texas living has resulted in a chassis that's extremely solid, and you can still see traces of the original red oxide primer on the floors themselves. Standard steel wheels with wire wheel covers are fitted and carry 215/75/15 whitewall radials. This car hits a lot of high notes: gorgeous design, incredible survivor, and a bargain price.
