Released by General Motors in 2007 during their bankruptcy, they needed to show good faith that General Motors was trying to obtain money from their assets. Since the federal government passed legislation to %26#8220;bailout%26#8221; General Motors with billons of federal tax money, there needed to be an effort on General Motors part to sell their assets and recoup some money. Thus they decided to sell numerous cars out of their factory museum, including this Buick Rainer GNX. Sold originally to Coury Buick in Mesa the dealership used the car for display and promotional opportunities. It was never sold publicly at the dealership because it is an actual concept car and has no title nor can it be driven on public roads. However since it is a concept prototype, it%26#8243; the only existing model in the world. It would complement any Regal GNX, or Grand National owners collection and be a bragging point that no other collector could ever own in the world!General Motors basically took their Buick Rainer SUV platform and tied it back to Buicks iconic muscle car the Regal GNX. Keeping true to the original GNX didn%26#8244; seem to be a priority however; the Regal GNX was powered by a V-6 turbocharged engine. This Rainer, however is powered by a Magnuson supercharged 5.3 LM 4 all alluminum block and head V-8 which General Motors claims to make north of 600 horsepower. The massive amount of power is managed through an all-wheel drive system, similar to the Trailblazer SS. New custom chrome wheels were added along with a complete Borla exhaust system; giving the Rainer GNX a very healthy muscle car tone. With the Borla exhaust paired with the Magnuson roots style supercharger, this car sounds amazing and is truly something special. GNX Supercharged badges adorn both front doors, as well as, the rear tailgate and instrument cluster. The interior was%26nbsp; custom upholstered in black and grey two-tone leather seats, which are in very good condition. General Motors put an entirely new gauge cluster with GNX badging inside, letting the driving know that this Rainer is something special. Buick\'s largest, plushest and most expensive models were restyled for 1963, with distinctive rear quarter panels culminating in a sharp vertical edge housing narrow back-up lights. The taillights are horizontally placed in the vertical deck cove. The unique cast grille was used at the front. Bright wheelhouse and lower body moldings, with ribbed rear fender panels were used. Red-filled Electra 225 badges were found rear while the front fenders have the vent-port\'s giving this old Buick the aggressive to match the aggressive behavior. **** ESTATE SALE **** Selling for the ESTATE of the second owner who purchased the Car in 1968 ....... A 1960 Buick LeSabre Convertible. A California Car with only 109,000 original miles and this Car get's more attention than anything you can imagine driving. Quite simply ...... This car makes people smile........ No matter where you go with it ..... everyone young and old has a positive reaction to this Car. We are selling this Car for the son of the longtime second owner. His father purchased the Car in 1968 and owned it until his death in January of this year. About 15 years ago his father undertook a light restoration of the Car and the exterior was re-painted the original color and the some exterior trim pieces were replaced that were showing pitting. The Chrome on this Car is very nice today with no pitting or rust. The interior was also spruced up with new interior carpeting and the black and white Tuxedo interior is quite striking. All of the 150 photos in the slideshow at the bottom of this listing were taken in the past few days and represent the current condition of this classic. At the same time the cylinder heads on the original engine were done and things like a new exhaust and new shock's were installed. Since this has always been a California Car ....... it is NOT a rust bucket as you might expect to find in a Car that is 55 years old. The only noticeable rust spots are just in front of each of the rear tires and both spots are smaller than a deck of cards. Please take the time to watch the slideshow and you will see easily the parts that were replaced and parts that are still original. This Buick even has the original owner's manual in the glove compartment. A box of original parts is in the trunk and goes with the Car. I think one of the strong points for this Car is the fact that it can be enjoyed NOW ........ without doing anything at all to it. This is NOT a project Car needing a lot of work before you can enjoy it ....... All this Car needs is a full tank of fuel and it is ready to be driven. No matter how you figure it ..... this Car has not been driven very much. In 55 years it has averaged about 2,000 miles per year and according to the owners son ..... only about 85 miles per year in the past 15 years. No smoke when you start this LeSabre and no leaks on the garage floor after you turn it off. This is a tight un-molested California Car that will give the new owner's years of pleasure and for not a lot of money. Certainly this is a good platform for anyone who wants to restore one ..... but even better for someone who wants to buy one and enjoy it now. Buick and the rest of Detroit was just starting to downsize American Cars in 1960 as the fins and the Cars began to get a bit smaller. This Le Sabre was one of 13,500 examples produced and sold in 1960 and it would have set you back about $3,150.00 to own one. By comparison the top of the line GM convertible of the day was a Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz that cost $7,400.00. .........This Buick has the standard 364 cubic inch V-8 producing 250 horsepower with 10.25:1 compression and that is coupled to a smooth shifting automatic transmission. A great running car made for the U.S. Interstate highway system that was just being completed when this Buick was produced. After the restoration was completed about 15 years ago the owner's son reports that the Car was used sparingly for events like a family wedding's , local parades in Rio Vista, California and other special afternoon outings. All told he thinks the Car was driven about 600 miles in the past 15 years ....... until we picked up the Car in northern California in July of this year and DROVE it south about 550 miles to our shop in Indio, California. The Car drove great and is most comfortable around 70 miles an hour. The Car has been cleaned & waxed and we improved the brake system with a new master cylinder and brake booster but that is all that was needed ..... as we wanted to preserve it as it is. The Car starts easy and drives like a dream. This Car is NOT a trailer queen and it is not a project Car ....... It is a very sharp driver that you will have fun with ........There are some chips in the paint plus the 2 rust spots that we mentioned ...... but as the photos clearly show ...... it is a striking example of pure Americana and very usable just as it is. No rips or tears in the tuxedo interior and the convertible top is in better than average condition. If I were keeping the Car I might replace the plastic rear window but would not replace the top at this point. The electric bench seat still works and the electric radio antenna works ..... plus the power top is still functioning. ...... The GSX was reduced to an option package by 1972 and only on the big block cars, but that doesn't mean that the same look won't work on standard Skylarks. Vivid Saturn Yellow paint with distinctive black graphics make the biggest, baddest of the Buicks highly visible, and this car is like that snake that has colors similar to a copperhead, but isn't quite as deadly. Finish quality is actually quite good, particularly for the money, and the vivid paint covers every visible surface, so you know it was a trim-off respray. The black hood stripes and side graphics give this Skylark the image of a fast car and there's a proper spoiler on the deck lid, an integral part of the look. The chrome and stainless trim is still in good original condition, a nice indicator of a machine that has probably led and easy life someplace warm, and proper emblems were added as necessary. You could probably call the interior white or even parchment and nobody would argue, and it definitely looks fantastic in the bright yellow Buick. The seats themselves are in great shape with no notable tears or splits in the material and even with the light color it seems to be defying the years pretty darned well. Black carpets and a matching dashboard help keep it from getting too overwhelming inside and they, too, are in good order. The factory gauges cover the basics of speed and fuel level, but remember that this was 1972 and performance was a bad word. On the other hand, as a Buick, you got lots of creature comforts, including factory A/C, power steering and brakes, and more sound deadening materials throughout the body. That's a good thing, because there's a Sony Xplod AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo system with speakers stashed throughout the interior that sound fantastic. The trunk is beautifully finished with correct spatter paint and a full-sized spare with restored jack assembly. The standard Skylark engine was a 350 cubic inch V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor, and that's what lives under the hood today. Smooth, torquey, and surprisingly energetic, it makes great V8 sounds and moves the sleek coupe with a swell of easy-to-use torque that's a lot of fun on the street. Beautifully detailed with lots of chrome, Dante Red engine enamel, and plenty of evidence of recent work, is makes this GSX lookalike even more convincing. Backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, the powertrain won't give you any hassles and it does sound great with a rumbling dual exhaust system behind it. The chassis is original but in good order thanks to a lifetime in a warm climate, and it rides and handles with a tautness that is unexpected in a Buick. Classic Buick Road Wheels are always right on a sporting Buford and they carry fat 215/70/14 white-letter radials at all four corners. Nicely documented with the original bill of sale, window sticker, dealer invoice, and owner's manual, this is a great-looking Buick that gives you the high-profile look for a fraction of the price.
