Buick Gran Sports were built in relatively small numbers. In 1973, just 6,637 were assembled, of which only 979 were 455 - powered cars, and of that, 728 were 455 Stage 1 optioned, while this one is in an even smaller production group with only 251 assembled . This car has the Buick Gran Sport "T" designation in the Vin # which makes it among that very rare 251 . That "T" added dual exhaust, 4 barrel carburetor and power front disc brakes. Power disc brakes didn't even really start to appear in production until the 1973 model year and was only produced in a few rare models. It is important to note that the engines in these cars were Buick V-8's, and weren't utilized in any other A-body at the time. The 455 was the same 430-derived 455 that was available from 1968 to 1972. The Buick cast-iron V-8's are known for longevity and reliability, and are also excellent starting canvases for performance modifications. Parts for these engines are very easy to find and can be obtained any afternoon at your local auto parts store, and better and performance parts are just a phone call away. This Gran Sport has had a great pedigree with only 2 owners for the last 44 years. It started out it's life with an owner who cared for it like a new born. He knew it was going to be in the family for a long, .... long time because he had the car "Ziebarted" which at that time was a great way to protect your car for many years against rust and corrosion . Ziebart dealers would strategically inject their anti-rust products into the body of the car and warranty the car from rust and corrosion over the life of the car. I ask you to look over the photos carefully and realize that it is 100% original (other than once being repainted the original color), this car is in amazing shape for a 44 year old car. It was always kept immaculate and well cared for and it shows. Look at the photos (and in one of the last photos), along with the original window sticker and factory build sheet is a little book in which the owner wrote down the date and what work was performed on the vehicle. I have a 1995 Buick Regal Gran Sport Sedan for sale. It has just over 117,500 miles on the body. It is a silver car with a grey bottom with a matching silver interior. There is no rust on the body or accident history, and the paint and interior are original. The body has very few imperfections. One example is on the trunk lid where an ill-placed sticker removed some of the paint, so I repainted and clear coated the area to prevent it from rusting. The drivetrain has undergone multiple changes. The 3800 engine has been swapped out for a rebuilt one and has less than 600 miles on it since the rebuild. The transmission has also been rebuilt, and has roughly 50,000 miles on it since the rebuild. The A/C Compressor has been replaced and the A/C is ice cold. The interior is in pretty good condition. It has dual power seats, PS, PW, ABS, and a Sunroof (which works and is watertight). The radio and speakers work great, as does the power antenna. The headliner has the typical 90's era GM drooping, but this hopefully will be repaired within the upcoming weeks. Overall, this car is a wonderful daily driver that would be a great family car. It has been recently cleaned, the leather has been conditioned, brand new front floor mats, and great MPG! The 1 year restoration includes a paint strip to bare metal any rust was cut out and replaced with metal. Filled sanded and primed 5 times and finished in base clear clear coat to its original color of Champagne Mist, this Buick Riviera Gran Sport is complemented by the well-appointed Saddle Interior. Most of the interior is original with the exception of new Clark’s correct front seats and rear parcel deck. New floor Heat shield and new carpeting. The detailed exterior is also highlighted by chrome and stainless accents that follow the Riviera’s distinctive lines. The front and rear bumpers have the original Chrome but all stainless trim was removed, dents taken out and polished to a mirror finish. Others tell me its perfect but I am a Rolls Royce judge and a perfectionist.There were Flowmaster rear mufflers on when I bought the car and they appeared very new so I left them on. I also installed 5 new Kumo tires which have a few hundred miles on them. Yes I know the wheels should be grey and the caps are from a 66 But I liked that look and can easily be changed if your a purist. I got a lot of info from the Riv owners when I did this car and I tried to be correct as much as possible. I am retired and try to do a different car about every 2 years. I had the car out today and it can burn the tirs off at a standing start. It does not spoke or use oil. The engine and transmission were rebuilt by the previous owner. I have all the receipts. The Grand Sport is powered by the 425 cubic inch, Super Wildcat 465, which produces 360 Horsepower and a whopping 465ftlbs. This rebuilt motor features a slight cam increase and a higher compression ratio and dual four barrel carburetors and a Posi-traction rear differential with a 3.42:1 ratio, which when combined make an already fast car, even faster. This car also has the factory optioned “handling package with closer ration steering and stiffer springs. The console shifted Turbine 400 transmission shifts smoothly, and the suspension along with Power Steering, brakes, and radial whitewall tires maintain this luxury muscle cars cloud-like ride. It handles extremely well for a 50 year old car and tracks absolutely straight! The front and rear suspension have been gone over and any needed rubbers or bushing were replaced hence the great handling. With a towering 510 pounds of torque, it was arguably the fastest machine on the streets. This stunning 1970 GS455 is a great example that has a tough look to match all of that brutal horsepower, and it's been beautifully restored to look right. To answer your first question, yes, this is a real GS. Finished in code 14 Silver Mist, it's one of the less common GS colors and truly emphasizes what a special car the Grand Sport really was. Dressed for success, the big Buick was upscale instead of a street brawler, and brought serious class to a segment that seemed to only care about horsepower. The restoration brought this one to a very high level, with a great gloss on the surface and straight, clean sheetmetal underneath. There are a few signs of use, but for a car that can generate speed as easily as this one does, they're surprisingly minor, and we love the way the silver look without a vinyl top, which was a familiar sight on Buicks that year. Those unique GS grilles are superb, the red-accented rocker panel trim is bright, and the twin-snorkel hood adds to the racy vibe. Chrome bumpers were part of the Buick image, and they shine up beautifully, adding a bit of elegance to the otherwise high-performance coupe. The sucker looks fast just sitting still. Buick's big advantage, aside from massive torque, was its luxury background. No longer did you have to suffer in discomfort to own the fastest car in town, and the attractive black bench seat interior invites you to drive. In truth, it's low-key, which is perfect for a Buick, and once you're there, you'll find nicely refinished gauges, a trio of auxiliary dials under the dash, and accurate components throughout the interior, including the door panels and headliner. There's an AM ratio that's period-correct and blends right in and as a Buick, factory A/C was part of the package, although this system needs to be serviced. Other luxury features include a tilt steering column, remote side mirror, and it's quite possible that the back seat is original, so you know that this was always a nice car. The trunk is solid an clean with painted floor pans that leave problems no place to hide. The GS's claim to fame was the massive 455 cubic inch V8 under the hood. This one has been rebuilt to stock specs, so the most potent engine in 1970 is every bit as much fun to drive today. Unlike a lot of its peers, it hasn't been upgraded with aftermarket parts, and still carries its OEM intake manifold, carburetor, heads, and exhaust manifolds. Nicely detailed with Dante Red paint on the valve covers, a correct twin-snorkel air cleaner, and accurate finishes throughout, it looks quite fresh and runs great. It's backed by a stout TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that has also been rebuilt at some point, and there's a fresh Magnaflow exhaust that sounds fantastic. They've also added a rear sway bar to tighten up the handling a bit and the brakes have been recently serviced with a new master cylinder and power booster. Gorgeous Buick Road Wheels have been painted black and carry 225/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials that fill the fenders perfectly. Gorgeous, fast, and very nicely finished, this icy silver GS is what all muscle cars want to be when they grow up. This Regal Gran Sport is the absolute top-line Regal for this year. It is leathered up and loaded with all available options aside for a power sunroof. It has dual power seats, premium audio with equalizer,power antenna ABS and a chrome luggage rack. This car is in original condition with no aftermarket equipment. No performance enhancements, no electronics and the car has never been hacked up for a stereo or security system, etc. It's just the way you want to find one, it doesn't even have any aftermarket window tinting. The body of the car is nice, the white finish is smooth and other than a bit of aging on the top of the rear bumper it is very shiny with no fading, no dings, dents or major sctratching anywhere on it. You will notice that I have photographed every panel on the car and they all have the original matching VIN# inspection sticker proving that it is all original sheet metal on the car. Glass is excellent, crystal clear all the way around with no tinting. All lights and lenses are clean, intact and all operational. It has a matching set of Goodyear tires which are showing 75% or better tread life remaining on them, factory alloy wheels are all intact and in good shape. The car was undercoated when new and has no corrosion issues as you will see in the undercarriage photos. The interior is very clean and smells fresh, the car was owned by a non-smoker. Leather is clean, supple and soft and aside from a bit of aging on the top of the rear seats and rear deck, it's all in remarkable condition, even the leather on the door panels is immaculate. Wood trim is in nice shape, dash pad is smooth with no cracks, the headliner and visors are all in great condition as well. The car is loaded with dual power seats, AM/FM/Cassette stereo with equalizer, power antenna (which works properly), ice cold A/C and good heat. Mechanically the car is in great shape as it should with so few miles. Engine is strong, smooth and quiet, transmission shifts properly and correct intervals and the car runs down the highway very smoothly and tight. Tires are balanced nicely, in my opinion, this car needs nothing in the immediate future as far as maintenence, it looks and drives like a very well cared for machine. If you are looking for a nice, leather loaded sport sedan and $40-50k is not in your budget, here is a really clean low mileage car that is fun to drive, super cheap to insure, register and keep on the road (these cars don't have all the fault-prone computer systems that newer models have making it much easier and cheaper to maintain). I'm not sure what the future collectibility will be on these but this is certainly the right one to keep as it is unmodified and is really clean. This Regal Gran Sport is the absolute top-line Regal for this year. It is leathered up and loaded with all available options aside for a power sunroof. It has dual power seats, premium audio with equalizer,power antenna ABS and a chrome luggage rack. This car is in original condition with no aftermarket equipment. No performance enhancements, no electronics and the car has never been hacked up for a stereo or security system, etc. It's just the way you want to find one, it doesn't even have any aftermarket window tinting. Please take the time to enjoy all of the 70+ photos including the very clean undercarriage. The body of the car is nice, the white finish is smooth and other than a bit of aging on the top of the rear bumper it is very shiny with no fading, no dings, dents or major sctratching anywhere on it. You will notice that I have photographed every panel on the car and they all have the original matching VIN# inspection sticker proving that it is all original sheet metal on the car. Glass is excellent, crystal clear all the way around with no tinting. All lights and lenses are clean, intact and all operational. It has a matching set of Goodyear tires which are showing 75% or better tread life remaining on them, factory alloy wheels are all intact and in good shape. The car was undercoated when new and has no corrosion issues as you will see in the undercarriage photos. The interior is very clean and smells fresh, the car was owned by a non-smoker. Leather is clean, supple and soft and aside from a bit of aging on the top of the rear seats and rear deck, it's all in remarkable condition, even the leather on the door panels is immaculate. Wood trim is in nice shape, dash pad is smooth with no cracks, the headliner and visors are all in great condition as well. The car is loaded with dual power seats, AM/FM/Cassette stereo with equalizer, power antenna (which works properly), ice cold A/C and good heat. Mechanically the car is in great shape as it should with so few miles. Engine is strong, smooth and quiet, transmission shifts properly and correct intervals and the car runs down the highway very smoothly and tight. Tires are balanced nicely, in my opinion, this car needs nothing in the immediate future as far as maintenence, it looks and drives like a very well cared for machine.
