I have for sale a nice 1960 Cadillac series 62 coupe. It is the desirable Ebony Black & Olympic White colors from the factory. This Cadillac has a history of being cared for and it shows, always being stored inside and has a documented low mileage of 45137. There is an oil change sticker on the drivers door that shows the date 7-8-83 and mileage of 33538 and a copy of a title dated 7-31-84 with a mileage of 40220. Another great thing about this car is it is 99% rust free and has no evidence of ever being taken apart for major repairs. It had a thick rust proofing undercoating when it was new which prevented any corrosion. Even the rear wheel skirts and that area in the wheel opening, which is the first to rust out, are in great shape. The paint was done in the 90's and is a base coat/clear coat paint, so it polishes out very nicely. We did a 3-stage paint restoration on it, and the paint turned out very deep & glossy but there are chips and many other small defects, but from 10 feet away it looks great! All the sheet metal on this Cadillac is nice and straight, no dents. The original spare and all jack equipment are still with the car. The interior of the car is all original except for a dash cover cap and we installed a new headliner, the original one was discolored. All the glass on the car is good, no cracks, scars or scratches but the windshield has some small bubbles in it. The chrome and stainless on the car are in very good condition except for a couple pieces shown in the pictures. We completely rebuilt the brake and fuel systems on the car along with checking and replacing anything that needed it to make sure it was mechanically sound. These Cadillac coupes are getting hard to find in an affordable condition like this one, most are fully restored and expensive or complete basket cases. Emblematic of a time when Cadillac really was the Standard of the World, the beautiful, exquisite, Series 62 is a rolling tribute to American craftsmanship. A well-appointed, expensive car that saw only a limited run, the 1960 Series 62 could arguably be Cadillac's most stunning design to date. Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum A 1960 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe. Built in the 4th week of March, this Cadillac has been cosmetically restored to its original Body Plate codes. (Some photos available) The restoration is an older one, being completed in 1991 but time has been kind to this Caddy. The Persian Sand paint still gleams in the sunlight and is breath taking in the evening shadows thanks to the meticulous care of its current owners. The car was stripped down to its basic frame and structure to allow for the removal of a terrible "Pepto Bismal Pink" paint. For a 20 year old paint, there is very minimal evidence of fading and there is no visible cracking, checking, hazing, or crazing. There are a few small chips present, mostly on the edges of the doors and trunk lid. There are some very minor blemishes that have found their way into the paint over the years. There is a scratch on the lower rocker panel just under the driver's side door, and there are light scratches along the tops of both front fenders. Additionally, on the driver's side rear wheel skirt, there is a small scuff or light scratch. The body was not separated from the frame so one will still find years of road debris, dirt, surface rust, and grease build up. The car overall appears to be rock solid. There are only two signs of possible rust and you would nearly need the aid of a magnifying glass to see them. One of the areas is the right lower corner of the trunk lid and the other just above the wheel skirt on the passenger's side rear. Both areas are very small bubbles. The trunk being the largest and the entire area not much bigger than a U.S. Dime and consists of 4 or 5 tiny bubbles closely gathered in the same area. The side area is about the size of an eraser atop a standard number two pencil. The stainless trim, chrome bumpers, and other adornments are in great original shape. There are some minimal signs of patina and fading but no pitting or rust anywhere. It is all very straight and there are no major dings, dents, or flaws. The glass too is in good original shape. The windshield has a few chips and scratches from the wipers but all blemishes should be repairable. The side glass and rear glass have the early stages of yellowing at the extreme edges as well as the typical bubbling seen in glass of this vintage. The lighting and lighting lenses for the most part operate properly. The dimmer switch is not functioning correctly so the high beam selection will not stay active. The lights will remain in the low beam setting. The bulb for the rear license plate appears to be burned out as well as the right rear reverse light. The driver's side rear tail light lens has some sort of blemish to it. Possibly a burn of some sort and the lens in the fin on the driver's side has a very small chip in the lower corner. As mentioned before, the undercarriage is unmolested and the engine compartment is the same. The original engine still rests in its original form and runs very well. The car drives and performs as a Cadillac should. There is ample power and acceleration, the transmission shifts smoothly and on time. As to be expected, there are signs of some past fluid leaks but the car does not appear to be leaking at this time. The only known mechanical issue is a very faint exhaust leak audible on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. The massive luxury car will stop on demand with no vibration, shimmy, pull, or noise. Whether traveling along a curvy country road at a comfortable pace, or cruising down the highway in a hurry, this Cadillac feels to be very road worthy. The ride is dreamy, giving the sensation of riding on a cloud and or floating. Steering is pretty decent although the period correct wide white walled Dunlop Gold Seal "78" Sport L78-15 4 Ply Polyester tires allow the car to track in grooves and sort of give it a slight "squirrelly" feeling. Switching to a similar style radial tire may correct this. The operator and passengers alike cannot help but find themselves in comfort riding in the passenger compartment of this Cadillac. The coated fabric plum colored seats were reconditioned during the restoration and while are not perfectly stitched in the 1960s style, they compliment the overall beauty of this car. The overall interior is very nice. There are no obvious signs of wear or sun damage to the seats and dash. The headliner is flawless and the door panels are neat and presentable. There is some minimal staining mostly noticeable on the driver's door. The carpet seems odor free although there are signs or either fading or a previous shampoo done incorrectly. There are a few minor issues that could need correction if one were so inclined to do so. First would be the power adjustable front bench seat. The front tilt option does not function. The rear tilt functions properly. Additionally, when adjusting the seat forward or rearward, the passenger's side seems to stick and trails along slower that the driver's side giving the seat an angled look. The rear view mirror mounted to the windshield will not hold a position. It is loose and rests at a very low angle. The horn, clock, temperature gauge, windshield wipers, blower/fan (heater) power antenna, dome light, and odometer are all in non operational condition currently. The cause is unknown. The car is relatively quiet while operating. There is very minimal road noise or wind noise. There is a very small rattle coming from the center ash tray mounted in the dash and will stop when the ash tray is either opened or held shut. The stereo will power on and it seems to operate properly although with no antenna extended, it will not receive any signals. Other minor issues inside are a missing ash tray insert from the passenger's side front dash mounted ash tray, trim above the driver's side door opening is a little loose, some very small paint chips on the metal surfaces on the dash exposing some of the previous "pink" paint, and a loose ventilation panel with a stuck passenger's side vent selector. The trunk compartment is neat and clean, dressed in period correct matting. The car has a spare tire, bumper jack, and a spare hub cap although there are no tools or attaching hardware available to accompany the spares. While the matting is glued down inside the trunk compartment, I was able to pull back at the corners to inspect the floor. The floor has no signs of rust and it feels solid. So all in all, this Cadillac is a very good candidate for a driver or touring car. It runs well and presents very well. The flowing lines, subtle appealing color, and brilliant use of bright work make this car a head turner everywhere it is seen. Driving this car would make even the grumpiest of persons smile. They don't make cars like this any more and they are becoming harder and harder as each day passes to obtain. That level of excellence, combined with the brand's built-in exclusivity, means top-notch vintage Cadillacs are becoming increasingly hard to find. And that means, when you DO find a classic like this super cool drop-top, you'd better be quick on the draw! BODYWORK/TRIM The beneficiary of a high quality, frame-up restoration, this '53 Caddy, owned by the same family for 37 years, has spent its entire life right here in North Carolina. As you can tell from our high-resolution photos, the car, which appears to wear all-original sheetmetal, features a super slick fuselage that's characterized by the kind of show-worthy gaps and vault-like solidity found only in 'golden age' Detroit luxury cars. Take a closer look at that fuselage and you'll see exceptionally smooth surfaces that have been covered in a stunning coat of Alpine White base. And, to ensure that pigment stays vibrant, a tough layer of clear has been carefully sprayed and thoroughly buffed to an award-winning shine. We all know trim is what makes '50s cars so cool, and WOW is there a lot of chrome on this Series 62. Put it this way: if you want to look at this vintage drop-top under the lights, be sure to close the shades because the reflection from your garage will probably wake the neighbors! At the front of the car, bright headlights and clear parking lamps visually dissect a heavy chrome grille that's positioned low enough to emphasize a road-hugging stance. Below that grille, a wraparound, gull-wing bumper features prominent chrome bullets. Above those bullets, a brilliant hood goddess overlooks a vintage Cadillac crest and the storied slim-line "V" emblem that inspired the brand's current performance moniker. At the top of the car, stainless-trimmed glass rides between Cadet Visor headlight bezels, a low-profile hood and bright stainless wipers that clear a panoramic windshield. Behind that windshield, a fresh cloth roof floats above a chrome driver's mirror and traditional GM door handles. Below those handles, canted "Cadillac" emblems are perfectly aligned with straight trim spears, air-slot fender breaks and smooth rocker trim. At the back of the car, a rolled trunk hangs a second Cadillac crest above a second slim-line "V". At the sides of that trunk, squared off fins feature jet-inspired taillights. And at the base of those fins, a second wraparound bumper hangs cleanly integrated exhaust tips below a second set of bullets. ENGINE Powering this spectacular cruiser is a correct, 331 cubic inch overhead valve V8 that twists a stout 210 horsepower into a stellar 330 ft./lb. of torque. That's plenty of power to move this Caddy down the boulevard with authority, and the big mill is buttery smooth with a distinctive rumble that insists its parent division wasn't interested in hiding their world-class power. Cadillac engines were the hot ticket for performance cars like the Allard J2, and it's hard to deny their eager performance, even in a chassis this large. At the top of the Navy Blue block, a familiar batwing air cleaner swirls wind in to a big Carter 4-barrel. In front of that carburetor, factory power steering and an old school generator spin fresh V-belts around pliable hoses and new screw clamps. Opposite those ancillaries, a correct points distributor shoots spark around correct exhaust manifolds via high quality CARQUEST 7mm Suppression Cables. Not a thing has been overlooked in this top-notch engine bay, with a professionally finished powerplant that's complemented by a full assortment of well-planned and well-executed details. Cadillac's open-runner cooling system is present and accounted for. A slim, application-specific battery provides fire. A glass washer reservoir hangs on the cowl. And the car's solid inner fenders and hulking hood are covered in a seamless combination of Satin Black single-shot and Alpine White 2-stage. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Throw this classic on a lift and you'll find a super clean undercarriage that, despite being largely exempt from the aforementioned restoration, is no less spectacular. A beefy X-frame, which could've lived a past life as railroad trestling, displays a solid coat of Satin Black paint. The blue V8 throws torque through a correct Hydra-Matic transmission, which wears a 1953 (53) Cadillac build stamp. That stellar drivetrain rides on a factory-spec suspension that's equipped with massive drum brakes. Factory power steering greatly improves low-speed navigation. There's a fresh, stainless exhaust system that breathes through factory replacement mufflers. And, at the corners, substantial wire wheels spin meaty 8.00-15 Coker Classic whitewalls around classy Cadillac crests. INTERIOR Clean and ready for hours of cruising, this classic Caddy's correct Red interior features a perfect mix of outrageous style and traditional American luxury. The broad bench seats are stuffed with firm padding, decked in leather covers, and trimmed in subtle stainless. In front of those seats, a classy dash hangs a correct AM radio between a contoured instrument panel, a small "Cadillac" script and a stylish electric clock. At the base of that dash, premium carpet rides between Cadillac-branded sills and cool, chrome-trimmed kick panels. At the sides of that carpet, stainless-trimmed door panels frame chrome handles, sculpted armrests, small power window switches and stylish Cadillac crests. In front of the driver, a 2-tone steering wheel spins a chrome horn ring around a color-keyed gear selector and a translucent centerpiece.
