57 PONTIAC STAR CHIEF 2-DOOR HARDTOP COUPE This ’57 Pontiac belonged to my dad, a US Marine who died last October. It is being sold to help my stepmom raise some $$$ to pay bills. He didn't have any money or insurance and left some debt behind. He was always a Pontiac guy at heart. The car is a really cool start for someone desiring to take it to completion. It has all of the components to make it a great hotrod or cruiser with a little more TLC that my dad will not be able to give it now that he’s gone. Before he died, I drove him around for short errands to the Amish fruit-n-veggie market or the hardware store for supplies. It was kind of like driving Miss Daisy, but some really great memories that I will cherish forever. We would love to see it go to a loving home and brought up to its full potential. We would really like to keep it and make it into a cherished ride, but with not one, but two boys just starting college, that just isn't in the cards for us. A whole new set of right-hand thread studs is in the glove box ready to be installed.Speedometer reads about double actual speedOdometer and gas gauge are not accurateActual mileage is unknown. Odometer reads 76K.A stack of chrome side molding is included. It should all be there, but it isn’t guaranteed to be every piece since it is off of the car. CONDITION - BODY: My dad was working on restoring the car a little at a time. He had it lowered giving it a cool boulevard-cruiser stance. The door handles were shaved and if you look at a picture of a 57 Star Chief, you'll see that he also had the chrome circle on the front of the hood shaved. New inserts in the taillight fins. Recently, a quality rebuilder looked the car over from top to bottom and reported that the car is very solid, especially considering that it is almost 60 years old! The interior had not been worked on yet, so it is completely needing restored. No carpet on the floor, small hole in the floor, seats have original cracks, and so on. The body is quite solid, and some of the car is still in black primer. Even though some of the paint was completed, it will need full paint in order to match and remove any imperfections. I used to help my dad paint cars many years ago, and if I bought this car, I'd want to strip it down to metal and repaint. The stainless chrome that is on the car looks great, but the steel chrome around the windows has pits. So the body is solid, looks good, but isn't perfect as you would expect with a "pre-restoration" vehicle. CONDITION - ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN: The engine is a 400ci Pontiac V8. Details on the internals are unknown. Not sure what cam setup or any other details. If you are considering a restoration on this car, you would be pulling it to inspect and tighten up the seals anyhow (I see a few oil drips). The oil and filter were recently changed. The car sat in the garage as my dad was getting too ill to drive. In his final months, I got it running again for him. It has a highly desirable tri-power intake and three carbs. He doesn't have a choke on the carbs so it currently has to be warmed up manually. From last year until just recently, the engine would start easily and purr like a kitten for as long as you let it. Now Ethanol has done a number on the carb gaskets and they are leaking so it won't keep running without your foot on the gas. We have found a gas station in our small town that is selling non-Ethanol gas, so we got some, but too late for the carbs. They need new gaskets. He installed an electric fuel pump, and no return line to the tank. The exhaust sounds good and strong but not obnoxious at all. The transmission works fine but will need new seals. He had replaced all four tires a number of years ago, so even though he didn't put hardly any miles on them, they show small dry-rot cracking from sitting. There is an "emergency" electric door release under the hood for the drivers door solenoid, and since you can open these old hoods from outside the car, you always have a way to get in. The doors open with solenoids from the key ring remote (the remote needs new batteries, it worked fine before they died). The steering gearbox is really loose, meaning you have to move the steering wheel quite a bit in the turns before it starts turning the car. It will need rebuilt or replaced. The brakes were ok when we were driving dad around last summer, but they've gotten super-grabby from sitting too much. CONDITION - SUMMARY: This car could go at least two ways. For little money, someone with the right mechanical skills (or a good mechanic) could fix a few things, such as the steering box, carb gaskets, etc., restore the interior and have a decent little 57 in solid pre-restoration condition. Or, someone with the sense of how to take it from current condition to sweet little ride - seems like resto-mod would be the thing (drive train updated to current but body looking stock) - could have a good starting point. Although we have driven it around some, even recently, it is not currently in roadable condition without some work. It can be started and driven onto a trailer for hauling, or it could be driven a short distance for inspection, but it would not be a good idea to go any further. It is all original with no resprays or mismatched panels. All body panels are original to the car. All VIN stickers are in the correct spots (under doors, along fenders, behind quarter panels and inside trunk lid) The paint is very nice and bright but has scratches here and there. The majority of the scratches are not noticeable on camea because they are so small. The worst scratches are on the passenger side door and under gas cap door. There are ZERO dents or door dings on this car.No lightbar imprints. There is one antenna plug on the roof as well as an radio plug. This car even has the original paint/chalk marks from the factory on the frame, driveshaft, differential and swaybars. Floor pans are nice and clean with no rust. The right side of the trunk pan has a small dent from backing over a small wall. Bumper cover is not affected at all.The frame is in excellent shape with only minor surface rust. The side body rails have been undercoated during the winter months as they are prone to rusting. All seams under each door is very clean with no rust. Panel gap is near perfect all the way around the car. Spotlight has a new GE glass bulb and works perfect. Interior: Car has factory interior code (IN) Black/Gray Cloth/Vinyl. Car has NEVER had a cage or center console. Not used for routine patrol. There are ZERO holes on the dash. This car has not been pulled apart and mismatched to look like a good car inside. Many sellers will take a car and get used interior pieces to make it look as though it has always been that way - Don't be fooled! Driver seat has no tears or rips, no typical hinge tear in the cushion/cover and looks new. Passenger seat is near flawless. Rear seat is nearly new and has the soft grain look from when it was brought out from the factory. Overtime, many people clean these seats too much and the vinyl gets a bad gloss sheen to it.. Flooring has almost no color age at all - zero wear spots. There are 3 1/16" holes behind the front seats on the flooring. They do not go through the floor, only the rubber flooring. B-pillars do not have any cutouts and there is no cage ridge in the headliner. Front door panels do not have the typical pull/wear on the handle area. This car does have the factory soundoff signal red led/white dome light. It works perfectly. Trunk is very clean with 2 small tears on the right side about 1/2" tall. Mechanical: This car has NO mechanical defects. It accelerates fast, corners aggressively with minimal body-roll and stops the moment the brakes are pressed. Transmission is smooth and there are no hesitations between shifts. Every change can be heard but not felt. Ride is very smooth. This car has been in Ohio all its life and was included in the steering shaft recall. Recall has been performed and there are no issues. This car has the factory 3.27 trac-lok differential. It is a true trac-lok system with the 3.27L code on the differential tag. Acceleration is very quick off the line and car feels as though it has more torque than cars with the standard 3.27. This car only has 203 idle hours!!! Very very low as this car was used for a lot of driving and no sitting. You will NOT find another in tis shape with this amount of options and condition. It is priced above book value as this is what the market is producing. Electrical / Safety: All electrical items on this car work as they should. There are NO defects. Every light works and every instrument works. Heat is HOT and a/c is COLD. Blower works on all levels with no hesitation. Radio signal is strong. All windows and locks work flawlessly. *What is different about this car is that is has been inspected by the local Ford dealer. Any codes or issues have been checked and fixed. many seller will disregard the issues unless the seller absolutely presses an issue. All dash lights come on and return to normal with the ignition ON/engine OFF and ignition ON/engine ON. There are ZERO surprises with this car. Please note that this car still has the factory Whelen strobe lights in each corner of the car. 1 In each front corner light and 1 in each taillight. There are are also 1 in each reverse light housing. Each strobe bulb has the original plug n' play connector. Once you have the module and a switch to control the strobes, they are able to be plugged in and used. These are CLEAR per ebay policy and should only be used for legitimate use. Maintenance / Service History Prior to myself owning the car, it was maintained every 3000 miles by the village garage and typically by the local Ford dealer. It has also had transmission services every 30,000 miles. Since I have owned the car, I have had it maintained every 5000 miles as I have no hard driving and barely use it. HISTORY: My car restoring friend found the car for me near Columbus, Ohio. Past owner was old and just didn't want the car any more. He found a good body and did the restoration. HOW IS THE ENGINE? It is a good running V8, past owner said it was a 350. He said it has been rebuilt with very few miles, but I have no documentation. It does run good, it has a Edelbrock intake, 4 barrell carburater, header and sounds like a mild cam to me. I here no rattles or knocks. HOW IS THE TRANSMISSION? It a Turbo 350 that shifts good, past owner said it was rebuilt recently. HOW IS THE PAINT? The red paint look good, I see no dent or dings and it has a real good shine. The body is straight when I look down the sides. If you look with a critical eye you will see a few touched up chips and a few specs. I would consider the paint a upper end driver quality. HOW IS THE INTERIOR? The black interior looks good, the dash pad has no cracks, the headliner is new, the carpet new, door panels fine, the seat covers look OK, but have 2 or 3 little defects. HOW ARE THE BRAKES? I consider think good, they are power with disc in front and drums in the rear. HOW DOES THE CAR DRIVE? It drives good to me, it is power steering. HOW ARE THE TIRES? The BF Goodrich tires have penty of wear left on them. They are 235/60/15. WHAT ARE THE WHEELS? GM Rally wheels in good condition, the worst thing I see is a scuff on a beauty ring, its the one I took a picture of. HOW IS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM? Its in good used condition with full tube headers. LIGHTS: The headlings work, tail lights work, turn signals work, brake lights work, dome light works. WIPERS WORK! GAS GAUGE WORKS, ITS AFTER MARKET! Some times they don't all show on smart phones. IS THIS A REAL HEAVY CHEVY? Past owner thought it was, but I don't think so. I put a picture of the cowl data plate if you want to do some reserch. It does look great with the Heavy Chevy stripes and logos. MILES: 3970 reading today and I'm sure you can add another 100,000. TITLE: Clear title in hand. HISTORY: My car restoring friend found the car for me near Columbus, Ohio. Past owner was old and just didn't want the car any more. He found a good body and did the restoration. HOW IS THE ENGINE? It is a good running V8, past owner said it was a 350. He said it has been rebuilt with very few miles, but I have no documentation. It does run good, it has a Edelbrock intake, 4 barrell carburater, header and sounds like a mild cam to me. I here no rattles or knocks. HOW IS THE TRANSMISSION? It a Turbo 350 that shifts good, past owner said it was rebuilt recently. HOW IS THE PAINT? The red paint look good, I see no dent or dings and it has a real good shine. The body is straight when I look down the sides. If you look with a critical eye you will see a few touched up chips and a few specs. I would consider the paint a upper end driver quality. HOW IS THE INTERIOR? The black interior looks good, the dash pad has no cracks, the headliner is new, the carpet new, door panels fine, the seat covers look OK, but have 2 or 3 little defects. HOW ARE THE BRAKES? I consider think good, they are power with disc in front and drums in the rear. HOW DOES THE CAR DRIVE? It drives good to me, it is power steering. HOW ARE THE TIRES? The BF Goodrich tires have penty of wear left on them. They are 235/60/15. WHAT ARE THE WHEELS? GM Rally wheels in good condition, the worst thing I see is a scuff on a beauty ring, its the one I took a picture of. HOW IS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM? Its in good used condition with full tube headers. LIGHTS: The headlings work, tail lights work, turn signals work, brake lights work, dome light works. WIPERS WORK! GAS GAUGE WORKS, ITS AFTER MARKET! FLOORS LOOK ORIGINAL TO ME, the frame looks solid to me. The under side is not detailed, it looks like a old car, thin under coating, I see no holes, I see see a litte crusty edges on metal, but I consider it solid car. WHERE IS THE CAR LOCATED?
