Impala hit the streets with a trim, sleek, style, and it was an instant hit with now iconic styling. The convertible Impalas were the one to own with a lot of chrome, with a stunningly clean profile, restrained use of bright work, and performance. This amazing 1961 Impala convertible underwent a 2-year frame-off restoration that addressed virtually every nut and bolt on the car. The Impala was assembled at the California plant and has the correct paint and interiors codes per the trim tag. From the show-quality white paint, powder coated frame, new factory red and white interior, and the 350c.i. engine, the convertible is a magnificent automobile that defines the word cool. The fact that it looks like a custom is testament to both the designers' original vision and the quality of the restoration. Every panel was straightened and aligned, every surface was hand-sanded, and several gallons of PPG Ermine White urethane were applied to give this car the look it has today. The depth of the finish is simply astounding. While white often hides details, on this Impala it seems to enhance. The chrome and stainless trim on this car is perfect. The sweeping side trims with the red insert makes the paint look astounding. On the rear of the Impala is stainless trim that kicks up from the sweep panel and outlines the trunk opening. Those six round tail lights were an Impala trademark and the crossed-flag emblems represented performance since the Corvette debuted nearly a decade earlier. This car is also fitted with all-new glass, fresh weather stripping, and show-quality chrome. The Chevrolet engine was completely rebuilt. It is a 1972 350 cubic inch four bolt main with a Holley four barrel carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake and dressed up with finned aluminum valve covers. The street-friendly camshaft ensures that it's easy to drive and doesn't get cranky during the low-speed cruises. Included are a new starter, HEI distributor, alternator, and power steering pump. There is a large Be-Cool aluminum radiator that keeps everything cool. A new aluminized dual exhaust system and mufflers completes the package. The paint work inside the engine bay was painted and detailed with factory correct finishes. The transmission is a new rebuilt Power Glide with a new torque converter. The front suspension is all new to include ball joints, tie rods, control arm, springs, and sway bar bushings. New shocks and brakes all around. The original rear was fully rebuilt, including new bearings and seals, and hangs on a fully rebuilt suspension featuring new coil springs and new shocks. The frame and floors have been powder coated for durability. There is no sign of rust or damage anywhere on the undercarriage. The new brakes are power assisted with a new dual bowl master cylinder and booster. The finishing touch is a new set of G78/14 Coker Classic Wide Whitewalls on the stock power coated wheels with Impala hub caps. The beautiful new original type red and white interior is stunning. The original working gauges remain in the dash. All complete new wiring harness was installed front to back. The Impala retains its beautiful iconic red and white original steering wheel. A new Custom Auto Sound USA-630 stereo radio with CD player is mounted high in the original location in the center of the dashboard with modern custom speaker’s front and rear. A rear antenna completes the package. The new original door panels with their silver inserts are also stunning. The new red salt and pepper carpet features the original nap and weave. The trunk has been finished as when new with spare wheel, tire, jack, tools and mats. The convertible has a new Hartz top, boot, and weather stripping. The cost this restoration was well into six-figures, and it shows in every single component being as close to perfect as it can possibly be. The engine delivers impressive performance and it cruises effortlessly at high speeds. Convertible Impalas have always been highly-sought cars and this one makes it easy to understand why. Finished in what appears to be Candyapple Red in place of the original LeMans Blue, this Yenko tribute certainly looks the part of one of the era's most potent street cars. The body and paint were restored a few years ago, and it's clear that someone has taken exceptional care of the car ever since. Sure, it's been driven, because no man can resist the siren song of a big block and a manual transmission, but it has also been carefully washed and waxed, leaving a beautiful, smooth finish. The red paint is simply gorgeous in person, deep and rich, and with bright white Yenko stripes on top, this is a car that's impossible to ignore. There is a correct white vinyl top that's in great shape and all the chrome has been polished up so it glitters like it's fresh from the showroom. However, it isn't until you see it in person that you get a full appreciation for how nice this car really is. Inside it's the same story. Like the bodywork, the seats were upgraded from frumpy to fantastic with fresh seat covers and correct sYc decals on the headrests (yes, decals were how Yenko did it). The black seats were probably recovered when the car was repainted, and show very little wear today. A three-spoke steering wheel is original equipment and in surprisingly good shape, and the gauges appear to be the originals, which are just now starting to show their age. Fortunately, there's an auxiliary set of gauges under the dash to help out and a Hurst shifter atop the 4-speed gearbox, complete with cue ball knob. Like many performance-oriented machines, there is no radio, but that only means that it's ready for anything you can imagine, from a stock AM buzzbox to a state-of-the-art entertainment system that will draw a crowd at shows. The trunk is quite clean, showing none of the usual issues and wearing correct spatter-finish paint, so you'll have no worries about this car when you take it home. The engine is a thumping 454 cubic inch big block that has been nicely dressed in a proper coat of Chevy Orange and lots of chrome. Chrome valve covers with correct Yenko emblems and an open-element air filter give it a flashy look, and the Edelbrock intake and Quick Fuel 4-barrel carburetor ensure that it runs even better than it looks. Clearly lots of money was spent under the hood, because the inner fenders are beautifully finished, the big aluminum radiator looks like it belongs there, and the serpentine belt drive system ensures reliability. Long-tube headers feed a new dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers with turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle. With seemingly endless reserves of big block torque, this Chevelle is a blast to drive, and there's something special about running your vintage muscle car through the gears of a period 4-speed gearbox that makes it so special. The 12-bolt rear end doesn't mind the LS6 levels of horsepower churned out by the big block, and you'll be pleased with just how clean it is underneath. Classic Torque Thrusts now wear staggered 245/40/18 front and 275/35/20 rear Nitto radials that stuff the wheel wells perfectly and give it a more modern look. This is a 1969 Factory built 442. The car underwent a full frame off restoration from 2005-2006. The car was stripped to metal and painted in DuPont original color Crimson Red. There were several coats of clear coat applied and it looks great today as you see in the pictures. The interior original and shows the care the car has had over the years. The top is new including rear glass and is in the original factory color of black - it works as it should. During the restoration the Hydramatic Transmission was rebuilt and shifts are smooth and hard to detect. The block on the motor was replaced. There are 14880 miles since the restoration. The car has been garage kept. $7500 of receipts from 2011-2015 will accompany the car and include brakes, tires at 85-90%, complete brakes, ac compressor and belts - blows cold at 95 degrees, new steering wheel (original comes with the car). NOTE: The stereo is an upgrade Kenwood and sounds great - OEM GM Radios can be found on eBay for $60-$90. All lights and signals work except for the light in the center console. The rear wing was not original factory equipment but was dealer installed - there is a hairline crack that does not show up in pictures. New front windshield and all glass is clear. New left and right mirrors as well as door handles. Power Steering and Brakes. Compression is good on all cylinders and the car has no smoke or leaks - acceleration is instant and you will smoke tires if you are heavy on the gas. At 70 MPH it tracks straight - more importantly it stops straight as an arrow - the brakes are dialed in. The car is sorted out, it starts without issue the first time, sounds great, drives great. Part of the GM A-Body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. The Chevelle SS396 became a series of its own in 1966 with series/style numbers 13817 and 13867. SS396 sport coupes and convertibles used the same Malibu sport coupe and convertible bodies with reinforced frames and revised front suspension: higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks, and thicker front stabilizer bar, but with different exterior trim. They also had simulated hood scoops, red-stripe tires, and bright trim moldings. The SS396 series lasted from 1966 through 1968 before being relegated to an option package in 1969.
