1963 Mercury Comet S-22 Convertible Lightning 260 V8 / Factory 4-Speed DSO Carnival Red on Red SPECIAL ORDER Convertible FACTORY S-22 Sport w/ Buckets & Console FACTORY V-8 & 4-Speed This 1963 Comet S-22 Sport Convertible is very rare optioned &early true muscle car. Very early production V8 & 4-speed S-22 optioned red/red convertible. ORIGINAL 1-OWNER since New in 1963 CAR, this low mileage car comes with ORIGINAL TITLE & original WARRANTY / Comet S-22 Owner’s Manual · Red on Red S-22 Sport Convertible · Factory Lightning “Cyclone” V8 & Factory 4-Speed · Recent 2-stage Carnival Red paint · All new OEM Carpet & interior · Factory Wheels & Hubcaps · Original Engine; all numbers matching HISTORY: This original one-owner & low mileage car is from Louisville MO, next to the Mississippi River. It was a very rare & early build DSO, Domestic Factory Order car. It was built in Ohio in February of 1963 with new ownership given as of August 7th, 1963. The original purchase price of $3,190.00 makes this as one of the most expensive Comets as ever sold in 1963, with top of the line base pricing of $2,710.00 for the S-22 Convertible. This S-22 was purchased by the Doctor in town, W. Joe Martin, MD. Included in sale is the original Certificate of Title as registered with MO in 1964. It was signed off by the original owner after I found the car last year. This car was first taken to a shop in MO that does early Shelby restorations. Tanks were flushed, mechanical checked, hoses and belts replaced and engine was refreshed. The car had been sitting for many years and was last fully tabbed in 1992. It does have the vintage early 90’s Historical Plates as issued still on the car. You can see by photos that this is a very solid and overall original equipped S-22. The full power convertible top works excellent. Missouri is a warm weather state, and they do not salt roads and get great survivor cars. This car has always been kept garaged and In dry heated garage storage. I have continued to do restorations, with a full & professional body repaint in factory OEM color Carnival Red. Many trims were removed and replaced, both bumpers were professionally re-chromed. The front door cranks & handle were also re-chromed. The factory Comet AM Radio was rebuilt and a new dash speaker installed so it plays load and crystal clear. I installed new OEM woven loop & padded carpeting to the car. I also had the front buckets and rear seats all professionally recovered in OEM styles & materials, along with new door panels and all back panels covers. A photo was taken when the interior was removed to show how solid and rust free car was underneath it all. The paint in the trunk, under the trunk lid and under the hood are all still the factory painted red paint. I have laid a new trunk mat over the original plaid factory mat in the trunk. Not in photos are the original jack assembly & spare tire attachment pieces which are included. Mechanical: As noted most hoses and belts are new. I have done fluids and tune ups to the car. Car does not leak nor burn any oil, fires right up, drives nice, runs smooth and strong. Car also has the rare power steering option. I have recently put a new battery in the car. Tires are as came, good tread but mismatched pairs in 195/70 series tires. Car has the factory rims and S-22 hubcaps. This is a rare original car, with professional paint and interior upgrades as noted. The taillight protruded from the rear deck panel and the grill featured four vertical headlights. This was the last year for the sporty Custom and S-22 series options. The Custom series included horizontal bars on the front and rear fenders, side window trim, deluxe upholstery, a white steering wheel with a bright horn ring, rear seat armrest, a cigarette lighter and a front door dome light switch. The S-22 pretty much had the same as the Custom with the exception of six taillights & side badging that made it easy to identify. While the 1963 model looked almost identical to the earlier models, the chassis and suspension were redesigned for early 1963 to accommodate an optional 260 cid V8 engine using a 2-barrel carburetor and producing 164 hp (122 kW).The rarer 260 Cyclone V8 option was known to many as a mid-year option as it could not be ordered until after the start of 1963. Convertible and hardtop (pillarless) coupe models were added to the Comet Custom and Comet S-22 lines this year. The S-22had six bullet shaped tail lights and a more aggressive grill design. While the 1963 model looked almost identical to the earlier models, the chassis and suspension were redesigned to accommodate the optional 260 cid V8 engine using a 2-barrel carburetor and producing 164 hp (122 kW). The V8 cars also received larger brake drums and standard 5 lug wheels instead of 4. Convertible and hardtop (pillarless) coupe models were added to the Comet Custom and Comet S-22 lines this year. I had been looking for a new Toyota Highlander for 6 months prior to purchasing and this would be my first Toyota purchase. Then I found this Toyota Highlander on-line at Laurel Toyota and I was connected to Scott Long. I recently purchased a new 2014 Mustang GT premium. i knew going in the basic kind of car i wanted. they didn't have what i wanted at the dealership so they searched all nearby dealers and couldn't find what i was looking. we ended up placing a custom order threw ford to get the exact car i wanted. he quoted me a price, after incentives including taxes, and all applicable fees. i took my vehicle specs and the price he gave me and contacted local dealers to see if they could beat Laurel Fords offer, and they either offered a higher amount or didn't answer back at all. it was the best deal within 75 miles of where i lived. i decided to place the order threw Laurel Ford and it took about 9 weeks to get built and delivered. they kept me updated on my vehicle status with weekly emails. they did not pressure me into buying any additional upgrades or packages. when i the vehicle finally came i was relieved to find it was exactly what i wanted but also the price i paid was the exact price he quoted me 9 weeks prior. they are very transparent with their offers, so if they say this is what you will pay, you can expect to pay that and not a penny more. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the car and helped me get acquainted with all its gadgets. i also want to mention i traded in my old car towards this purchase. they gave me the highest amount Kelly Blue book said my car was worth. it was overall a pleasant experience. i will buy from them for life and recommend them to anyone interested in a new car.
