Certain classic cars are on the rise and others are on the decline. Typically, the classic cars that are on the rise are the cars that a lot of people don't own. In other words, there are classic cars that haven't saturated the market. The cars that are at every car show and auction and page on the Internet for sale are the ones that aren't changing in value or are slowly on the decline. Of course, if the car is spectacular it will command a higher price as I mentioned. It's all about supply and demand, not a good or bad economy. IT’S SHOWTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Buick Grand National is one of the most desired classic cars of the 80’s era. Nicer ones are becoming harder to find and prices are on the rise. The Grand National super car known as the GNX are really on the rise with one recently selling at Barrett Jackson for $165,000.00. Yes, $165,000.00! I’ve seen many GNX’s sell for over $100,000 over the last few years. The Grand National Turbo Charged 3.8L V6 had 235 HP from the factory and did the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds. The Grand National GNX had 276 HP from the factory and did the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds. Not too shabby considering it was the 80’s huh? This 1986 Buick Grand National nick named “The Beast” by yours truly has 700+ HP and would run the quarter mile in the 9’s if you desired to make a pass down the drag strip! That’s right; this car is a real beast. Form the research I’ve gathered this car was sold originally on 02-05-1987 to a gentleman who lived in Nashville, IL. He owned the car for over ten years and sold it on 11-24-1997 to a gentleman who lived in Sterling Heights, MI. He owned the car for eighteen years until I purchased it in 2015. I’ve always wanted a Buick Grand National but was patient to find the right one that tickled my fancy. When you learn more about this car you’ll realize why I met my match. The gentleman I purchased this car from used this car for many years as a second vehicle. I guess you could refer to it as his toy. He started going to the drag strip and making passes for good times. Over the years he continued to make modifications learning how to make the car stronger and faster. He told me that one of his best times in the quarter mile was in the 9’s! After many years of enjoyment and deeper pockets he decided to completely restore the car he owned for 18 years and had so many great memories with. He was willing to spend whatever it took to bring his Grand National to show quality condition and make it one of the hottest setups on the street. If he pulled next to a GNX in this car he could grin from ear to ear knowing “The Beast” would eat it for breakfast. He went to well-known Big C’s Customs and Collision to restore the exterior, interior and undercarriage. They stripped the entire car to bare metal and painted the car in the original factory black color. He wanted the paint job to be much better than the factory paint quality eliminating all the orange peel that was common with the 80’s cars. The exterior came out spectacular! Like most classic cars it does have a few imperfections that I can discuss in more detail over the phone. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced. It sits on new GNX mesh style 16” wheels. It has Mastercraft 225-60-15 front tires and Mickey Thompson 225-50-16 rear tires. These rear tires are great for hooking up. The interior was also restored and looks beautiful. It actually smells like a new car they did such a good job. They replaced many items such as the visors, door panels, seat cushions and fabric and carpet. It also has some custom features such as pod gauges, scan master box and custom carpeted floor mats that match the seats. These cars have a very spacious and comfortable interior. They also have some nice features such as air conditioning and power equipment. Please note the air conditioning in this car was never converted and would need to be converted to operate properly. The trunk compartment was completely carpeted and looks great. It’s also home to the new battery with power cut on and off switch. The undercarriage was treated to a slight restoration which included some cleaning and painting. The undercarriage of this car is in overall very nice condition especially for a car that was driven since 1986. The engine compartment is highly detailed as the photos show. He hooked up with well-known Aggressive Auto Performance located in Clinton Twp, MI to do all the mechanicals. The owner specializes in Buick Grand Nationals and does great work. Its home to the professionally built 3.8L Turbo Charged V6 with 700+ HP. To pull this amount of horsepower the boost would have to be setup in the mid to high 20’s. Although the engine was built to handle that I had the company who built the engine turn the boost down to around 20 pounds just to ensure engine longevity. It currently has somewhere around high 500 to low 600 HP. This engine was built to be extremely fast but also to be extremely user friendly. It only has 50 test miles and is just broken in. It has a top of line alcohol injection system but nothing needs to be done other than filling up the container when it eventually empties. For the people that don’t understand the alcohol is injected automatically under a certain level of boost pressure. You can buy the denatured alcohol at most hardware stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. There’s a small button you press when you first start the car to clear the system and make sure it’s functioning properly. This engine is the original 109 block with major upgrades including such items as a new stroker kit with new steel crank, steel rods, forged .020 over pistons, billet main caps, billet roller camshaft, fully ported aluminum GN1 heads, fully ported intake, pulleys, 70MM throttle body, PT-63 turbo, front mount intercooler, etc. It has many other custom items such as a hood liner, braided lines, polished alternator cover, polished wiper motor cover, polished master brake cover, etc. It also has many new items such as spark plug wires, mass air flow sensor, ignition control module and coils, vacuum brake conversion kit it, etc. It would take hours to go over every detail. I could email or fax a list of everything if needed. The engine breathes through a MAC 3” downpipe with 2.5” exhaust system. This exhaust sounds perfect! The engine is coupled to a newly built 200R4 transmission with billet internals, stall converter and transmission cooler. It has a GM 10 bolt rear end with 3:42 gears. Some other upgrades to this car include a Scan Master box for tuning, cross drilled front rotors with new brakes, drag launch air bag, etc. “I’ve been searching for many years for a low mileage Buick Grand National but haven’t found the right car for the right price. One day while searching the internet I stumbled across this car and was blown away by it. I would say that most of the Grand Nationals that have been modified aren’t in the best cosmetic condition and have too many modifications for my taste. This car has the best of both worlds. It is in show quality condition and built to be one mean street machine. The coolest part about the car is nobody knows what’s under the hood. I didn’t nick name this car “The Beast” for nothing. It’s a true beast! I want be very clear that you don’t have to be an experienced driver to enjoy this car. This isn’t a car that will be constantly in the repair shop. This car was built to enjoy and perform when asked of it. Take advantage of having a car that looks the same as a GNX but has 300+ more HP and is priced $50-100K less! I’ll take this car any day of the week over a GNX. Get it before someone else does!” Marc Schiliro – the owner Inspection ReportUnfortunately most classic vehicles that are being advertised for sale by dealers and private parties aren't exactly what are being advertised for sale. This is an industry with no real guidelines and everyone's opinion is completely different. The average consumer doesn’t realize classic vehicles weren’t restored at the factory and are being restored by people in their garages. Everyone’s level of restoration experience is different and it shows in the restoration. An example would be a classic vehicle that's being advertised as an original model with matching numbers could be a phony with a reproduction trim tag and re stamped numbers on the engine block, etc. Another example would be a classic vehicle is being advertised as a full restoration when indeed only a few things have been restored. There are many classic vehicles listed for sale that have cosmetic and mechanical issues with such items as the lights, body hinges, gauges, window components, steering components, upholstery, engine leaks and tuning, radiators, transmission, rear end, brake components and suspension components. The consumers are spending thousands of dollars repairing the classic vehicles they've purchased after the sale. At MS CLASSIC CARS I own the entire inventory and take pride in what I sell. I'm not a consignment dealer who is only looking to make a quick buck on a vehicle that they don't even own. I’ve seen dealers and private parties purchase classic vehicles at auctions and online and immediately list them for sale. They never even touched the vehicle. A couple of new four-cylinder engines, including one that is both turbo- and supercharged, and an eight-speed automatic transmission debut, as do a number of new features. Key among the latter are fuel-saving automatic engine stop-start technology and available lane-keeping assist. Introduction The entry-level luxury sport sedan segment is something of an automotive Olympics. Here, athletic entries from Germany, Japan, America and Sweden vie not for medals, but for prestige and popularity. And from the country that gave us Abba and Ikea comes the 2015 Volvo S60. Already a player that could hold its own in this tough game, the S60 comes into this year sporting greater performance and efficiency, thanks to a couple of new powertrains. This year the Volvo S60 adopts turbocharged four-cylinder power like most of its rivals already have. The Volvo's base 2.0-liter turbo makes 240 horsepower and promises solid performance along with strong fuel economy. Indeed, with an EPA rating of 29 mpg in combined city/highway driving, this Volvo is a front-runner in that respect. There is also a 2.0-liter four that is super- and turbocharged, allowing this little 302-hp dynamo to provide both immediate response and admirable fuel efficiency. Although it rates just 1 mpg shy of the base engine's lofty combined estimate, according to Volvo, it is still capable of dispatching the 0-60-mph sprint in a speedy 5.6 seconds. Other changes this year include a new eight-speed automatic transmission for those engines, along with the adoption of fuel-saving automatic engine stop-start technology and a shuffling of features and trim levels. Unfortunately, these new engines and transmission apply only to front-wheel-drive S60s. If you desire the traction-enhancing benefits of all-wheel drive, the S60's less-efficient five- and six-cylinder turbocharged engines soldier on for another year. Elsewhere, the Volvo S60 has the expected qualities of this segment -- handsome styling, responsive handling, a comfortable cabin and plenty of luxury features. The company's endearing hallmarks, namely impressive safety technologies, extremely comfortable front seats and feisty engines, also come along for the ride. As you might've guessed, we like the 2015 Volvo S60. While its backseat is a bit tight and its sporting credentials aren't quite on the same level as the BMW 3 Series, the Volvo S60 fits right in against more comfort-tuned entry-level luxury sedans like the Acura TLX, Audi A4 and Lexus ES 350. It's also priced attractively, often thousands less than the competition. If you're shopping for a premium-brand sedan, this quietly competent Volvo is worth a test-drive. No Video Content Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2015 Volvo S60 is a midsize luxury sedan available in four trim levels: T5 Drive-E, T5 AWD, T6 Drive-E and T6 R-Design. Each is further broken down into subtrims. Apart from its powertrain, the T5 Drive-E and T5 AWD are similar in terms of available equipment. They come standard with 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, LED running lights, headlight washers, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat (with adjustable lumbar), driver memory settings, power-folding rear headrests, a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, T-Tec cloth upholstery, a 60/40-split folding rear seat with pass-through, a 7-inch display screen, "Sensus" smartphone app integration, WiFi capability, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, HD radio, satellite radio, an auxiliary audio jack and an iPod/USB audio interface. The T5 Premier subtrims add keyless ignition/entry, bright window trim, a sunroof, leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, a navigation system, a configurable instrument display and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The T6 Drive-E essentially starts with the T5 Drive-E Premier's equipment, but adds a more powerful engine, 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, adjustable steering effort, a power sunroof and sport seats. The T6 R-Design has the T6 Drive-E's features along with a more powerful engine, all-wheel drive, special exterior styling details, unique 18-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, specifically tuned sport suspension, special interior trim, a sport steering wheel and a rearview camera. The Convenience package adds power-folding mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, a rearview camera, a remote garage opener and a grocery bag holder. The Technology package features adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, collision warning with auto braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection with auto braking and driver-attention warning. A lane-departure warning system is included with this package in all-wheel-drive models, while the Drive-E models get a more sophisticated lane-keeping assist system that will steer the car in the event of driver inaction. The Platinum subtrim available on all T5 and T6 models include the Convenience and Technology packages along with xenon headlights, auto-dimming outside mirrors, cabin accent lighting and a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system. Powertrains and Performance The 2015 Volvo S60 T5 Drive-E has a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine with 240 hp and 258 pound-feet of torque. It sends its power to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Volvo estimates a 0-60-mph time of 6 seconds while EPA fuel economy estimates stand at 29 mpg combined (25 city/37 highway). The T5 AWD features all-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic and a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-5 good for 250 hp and 266 lb-ft. Volvo puts its 0-60 time at 6.6 seconds with fuel economy estimates at 23 mpg combined (20 city/29 highway). The T6 Drive E is front-wheel drive and packs a turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that cranks out 302 hp and 295 lb-ft. It uses the eight-speed automatic, and 0-to-60 mph is estimated at 5.6 seconds while fuel economy numbers are 28 mpg combined (24 city/35 highway). At the top of the performance ladder is the T6 R-Design, which features the so-called "PoleStar" upgrade: a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 producing 325 hp and 354 lb-ft. Its 0-60 time is given as 5.4 seconds, and fuel economy estimates are 21 mpg combined (18 city/26 highway). Safety Upholding Volvo's sterling reputation for passenger protection, the S60 comes loaded with standard safety features that include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and whiplash-reducing front head restraints. Also standard is "City Safety," which can help the driver avoid a collision with other vehicles or a stationary object at speeds of up to 19 mph by automatically applying the brakes if he or she doesn't react in time. Included in the optional Technology package is Volvo's pedestrian- and cyclist-detection feature, which can apply full braking force (reducing speed by as much as 22 mph) to help you avoid hitting pedestrians and cyclists who are at least 31 inches tall. This package also includes electronic warnings for driver inattention, lane departure and impending collision, the last of which includes automatic braking. Lane-keeping assist is further included for the Drive-E trims. Other safety options include front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, a front side parking camera, a blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alerts. The government gave the Volvo S60 a perfect five stars for overall crash protection, with five stars each for total frontal and side crash protection. In testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the S60 received the best possible rating of "Good" in the moderate-overlap frontal-offset, small-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact and roof -strength tests. The S60 is notable in that it's one of the few cars to earn a "Good" rating in that new small-overlap frontal-offset test. The IIHS also rated the S60's optional frontal collision warning and mitigation system as "Superior." Interior Design and Special Features Interior materials in the 2015 Volvo S60 are on par with the rest of the entry-level luxury sedan class. The heavier graining on the dash and doors won't suit everyone, but there's no denying that the interior leather, vinyl and plastic are quality materials. Volvo's unique Scandinavian take on wood and metal accents also gives the S60's cabin a unique personality among its rivals. The straightforward dual-temperature adjustment dials and "Mode Man" pictogram make climate control adjustments simple and intuitive. The audio system's phone-style number pad and surrounding buttons may look a bit antiquated in the luxury class these days, but they're simple and make controlling basic stereo functions easy. For more complicated tasks like selecting a media player playlist, programming the optional navigation system or controlling more complicated vehicle functions, the S60 relies on the standard Sensus system. It, too, is fairly easy to use and similar to competitor systems, though the multipurpose knob's location on the dash (rather than the center console) is not ideal. As you expect in a Volvo, the standard front seats and the optional sport seats offer excellent long-trip comfort and proper support. Unfortunately, the backseat isn't quite as accommodating. The seats themselves are supportive, but leg- and foot room are tight for adults taller than 5-foot-8. Competitors such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class are more welcoming for taller passengers. The trunk's 12-cubic-foot capacity is a bit small for the class as well, but a low liftover height makes it easy to access the space. Both rear seats fold down, and there's a separate ski pass-through. An available fold-flat front passenger seat further increases cargo-carrying capability. Driving Impressions The 2015 Volvo S60 is a comfortable, sophisticated and well-behaved luxury sedan with ample power whether you go with four, five or six turbocharged cylinders. It's a sure-footed handler with a nicely weighted steering that feels substantial without being heavy. Regardless of output, the engines are smooth and powerful, and the all-wheel-drive system apportions power to individual wheels to maximize traction and grip through turns or on slippery roads.
