This Dragon is powered by a 1996/1997 General Motors LT-1 series V8 coupled to a 4L60E 4 Speed Automatic transmission. The mechanical configuration is still generally as originally installed. The Dragon rides on adjustable coil over shocks in all four corners, steering and handling as well as the suspension for the front end was provided by a C-4 Corvette donor. Out back you'll find a solid 10 bolt G.M. axle mounted in a 4 link configuration and a modified drive line connecting it all together. Manual dual circuit 4 wheel disc brakes with dual piston calipers up front and single pistons in the rear provide ample stopping power and the American Racing Torque Thrust rims wrapped in Toyo Proxes 4 275/40 ZR17 tires transfer your desires to go or stop to the ground. Additionally, for added performance and longevity, the braking circuits are plumbed with steel braided brake lines. The LT-1 engine has been dressed up with some tasteful additions including true dual exhaust with custom exhaust headers and functional side pipes. (a modification completed by the original fabricators of the Dragon) A chrome alternator has been installed and Corvette covers atop the intake. Cooling is efficiently handled by an electric pilot controlled fan fastened to an aluminum Griffin radiator. The large air inlet in the front allows the Series II to cool much better than its predecessor. Electrically, the Dragon utilizes the factory designed system for the LT-1 engine and power is supplied by a newer Die Hard series battery. At 2200 pounds or so, this High Performance vehicle is pure business. There are no frills, no amenities, and no creature comforts. Mechanical and vitals are monitored by 6 gauges including Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, Battery and Charging System Voltage, Fuel Level, Tachometer, and a Speedometer. Turn signals, Headlights, Electric Fans, Windshield Wipers, Horn, and High/Low Beam Headlight operations are controlled by neatly installed toggle switches in easy reach of the pilot. You won't find a need for a stereo in this machine. The sound of the engine and finely tuned exhaust provide all the listening pleasure you will ever need. Operating this machine is no major issue. There is plenty of leg room in the cockpit for even the tallest of drivers. The side profile of the car is low and very easy to enter even considering one has to step over the side into the pilots seat. Once comfortably seated, the pilot has the protection of a full body width roll bar, chrome fire extinguisher, and RJS Racing 5 point harnesses to protect against nearly any unfortunate event that may arise. Operation of this ferocious Dragon is handled by the Radio Controlled Paddle shift and the GT Grant removable steering wheel. As with any vehicle used over a period of 8 plus years, no matter how meticulously cared for, one will find a few minor blemishes. This Dragon is no exception. On the exterior, the recently modified paint (original paint scheme reversed from red with black accents to its current configuration) has a small bubble on the right rear section of the trunk lid just in front of the integrated spoiler and some very minor road rash on the chin up front. Some swirls are also present but should be easily removed with a high quality detail. The *Leather* interior is in very good condition with no tears, rips, or other signs of wear other than some discoloration on the pilot's seat from where one would place their foot while stepping in to the car. For the most part, the overall function of this Dragon is as it should be. The steering and suspension are tight, responsive, and trouble free. Acceleration, shifting, and stopping are all breath taking, and the car is not only exciting, but a head turner no matter where you are. A few things worth mentioning that the perspective buyer would like to know are as follows; there is evidence of oil seepage at the front timing cover seal, the odometer, the horn, windshield wiper, and fog lights do not currently work, and the pilot's side rear view mirror lense is missing. For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 1971 International Howe Defender. We are pleased to have a great piece of fire fighting history for sale here in Orlando. Originally built to spec by the Howe Fire Apparatus Company the Defender series was the top of the line in Howe%26acirc;??s arsenal of fire trucks. The Howe Company was known for producing the first motorized fire engine in the United States in 1905 and before that in 1872, B.J.C. Howe%26acirc;??s patented piston fire pump. B.J.C Howe%26acirc;??s design for the first piston pump was so well engineered that versions of it were still being used without much change for almost a hundred years. Howe continued their legacy of building some of the best fire fighting trucks in the nation until 1978 when Grumman Allied purchased the company. Bought and optioned by the Center Ossipee Fire Department in New Hampshire in 1971 this great truck was maintained and in service at their station until 1998. After her tour at Ossipee the Defender was transferred to Hiram Maine where it was stationed until 2010 when a private buyer purchased it. From the International factory this 1800 chassis pumper was equipped with the stout 304cid gas engine and 8 speed Rockwell transmission. This beast is also complete with a Rockwell locking rear differential in case of traction issues. From there the Howe Company equipped this rig with a 800GPM Hale PTO driven water pump and 1000gal tank. The pump and tank combination was second from the top in Howe%26acirc;??s higher end configurations. Our Defender has been greatly cared for and all the lights, sirens, and equipment still work on the vehicle with records of pump inspections and vehicle inspections from its time in the fire service. Also included are all the hoses, fire suits, helmets and other fun accessories that make this fire truck stand out. After his death, I was contacted by my cousin (his son), who asked if I knew anyone that would be interested in purchasing the T. After a discussion with my wife, we decided to rescue the T, and bring it back to the life that he wanted for it. Whereas the T was made from several different years, (as most Ts are) we decided to take it from being a Fire Chiefs Car, to being the speedster that he wanted. It had a frame and running gear of the 1926, but the body parts were from several different years, and the radiator was from 1914, and the front axle is 1921, the top and the hood were homemade. I am involved with Model A Fords, but had never worked on a T. I contacted a good friend who is an expert on Model Ts, and we started taking the T apart. One of the first things we found, was low compression in one cylinder, which was easily corrected with a new head gasket. The wiring for the magneto is bad, so after several discussions, we decided to have the coils all restored, including one spare for the tool box. We also decided to upgrade the electrical system with a 12V sealed Gel Battery which fit nicely in the original holder, A converter for the generator was installed and looks just like the 1926 cut-out. We installed new Kevlar Bands in the transmission. We repainted the frame, had the radiator cleaned and re-soldered, made new oak frame rails, and oak plywood floor. Ordered a Rootlieb Speedster Seat Kit, and new gas tank. Installed a brake light switch, 2 stop and tail lights, 5 new tires, tubes, liners etc. We have had the car in several shows in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, have received some trophys and many positive comments. In 2013 we took it to the Antique Car Show and Parade at the Sandwich, NH Fair, which annually attracts 100+ antiques from all over New England. After the Fair ended, I was asked if a photo of the speedster could be used for the 2014 event. I agreed, and everyone that entered the 2014 event has a dash plaque with the speedster on it. My wife and I are heavily involved in our local Model A Club, and I find it difficult to find the time or room for the T, so we have decided to sell it.
