Paint is a little oxidized, AC needs replacement, the tailgate latch needs a swap, and the rear main has a slow leak (that could be repaired for $400) Other then those flaws it's a GREAT truck. Pickup trucks are the Next Big Thing in the collector automobile world, and the ones that you can use and enjoy every day are at the very top of the heap. With a recent repaint in high-gloss black, this truck looks absolutely fantastic in person. The cool thing about the color is that it both looks appropriate on the truck's 1987 sheetmetal, as well as contemporary, since black never really goes out of style. Of course, adding things like the cowl-induction hood gives it a whole different attitude, and you can tell even in photos that the workmanship is first-rate. It appears that this has always been a clean, southern truck, and with black paint, there's really no place for shoddy workmanship to hide. It was treated to a frame-off restoration two years ago, which cost more than $30,000, so you know this isn't some beater. Heck, even the beautifully finished bed looks fresh out of the stamping press with no signs of forced labor in its past, although it now has a spray-in bedliner and stainless bed rails to keep it in top shape. The chrome and brightwork is in good shape, including the bumpers and oversized side mirrors, and fresh stainless fender moldings were installed once the paint was dry. The all-black interior is the ideal complement to the bodywork, and offers a fresh vinyl seat cover on the original bench seat, so it's comfortable no matter what time of year it might be. OEM-style components like the door panels and dash pad are in excellent condition with minimal wear and the factory gauges are in excellent condition; they're so nice that we strongly suspect they've been rebuilt. Fresh carpets were fitted and the shifter on the floor manages the 2-speed transfer case for the 4-wheel-drive system. In the center of the dash there's a high-end AM/FM/CD/iPod/satellite stereo that powers a set of subwoofers behind the seats, so this sucker really rocks. It's also loaded with options, including A/C, a tilt steering column, and a sliding rear window for those days when you just don't need A/C. Just get in and go have fun! Under the hood, a rebuilt 350 cubic inch V8 from a K10 Blazer has been nestled between the wheel wells, and someone obviously took their time dressing it up. There's a chrome air cleaner lid and Chevy Orange on the block and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor has been fitted to an aluminum intake, so it's plenty stout. The motor makes wonderful sounds thanks to a set of long-tube headers and a pair of Flowmasters with outlets just under the bed. This sucker snarls! The ultra-clean chassis is neatly finished with no signs of abuse or even aggressive off-roading, and all the suspension modifications are quite nicely done, including the lift kit. Everything has been restored, replaced, or rebuilt, and the vast amounts of cash that went into the build are obvious everywhere you look. Heck, those custom black powdercoated wheels and 38.5-15 Super Swamper tires probably cost 20% of the asking price! This is one of those trucks that needs nothing to hit the trails, and looks great even on pavement. There's a ton of cash invested here, and it makes a lot of sense to take advantage of someone else's investment. It's a long way from its commercial days, but it'll still haul, complements of a 383 cubic inch stroker motor and some wide-by-huge rubber on the pavement. Add in some chromatic paint and you get a truck that's as much "show" as it is "go." No matter what you do to one of these trucks, they're still instantly recognizable and it's flat-out impossible to make an ugly one. This one wears a coat of beautiful dark blue metallic paint highlighted by some Mystic flip-flop paint on the hood and around the perimeter of the body, which gives it a look that causes folks to do a double take when they see it. It was done a few years ago, so it's seen some use, but the shine and the good straight sheetmetal underneath give it an appealing look that works quite well. Body modifications include the cowl-induction hood and a rear roll pan with a built-in kill switch, as well as the billet grille that neatly camouflages the headlights for a smooth look. Its cargo-carrying days are probably over, because despite the spray-in bedliner, there's a custom fuel cell in the center of the bed, which better speaks to this truck's current intentions. Add in a shiny chrome bumper, a few bright stainless details, and you have a truck that stands out in a big way. The interior has undergone a more substantial transformation and you could be forgiven for thinking it's a race machine. Body-hugging Corbeau buckets replace the factory bench and they're fortified with 5-point Corbeau harnesses that pin you in place no matter what you're doing. A wood-rimmed steering wheel atop a tilt steering column is a touch of civility in an otherwise minimalist environment, and even the floors were stripped of carpet and instead protected by more spray-on bedliner material. Auto Meter gauges replace the factory dials and a row of auxiliary switches replace the radio, which you won't miss because the truck's an absolute blast to drive. A B&M shifter manages a burly TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, which is the right choice when you're churning out this much horsepower. Tinted windows give it a sinister look that fits right in with its generally nasty demeanor. The engine is a small block Chevy V8 bored and stroked to 383 cubic inches and fitted with all manner of performance parts. The heads are aluminum, there's a Dart intake with Holley 4-barrel carburetor, an MSD ignition system, and a fairly substantial camshaft inside, so it has that awesome high-performance sound. Under-hood detailing is pure race grade, but that also means simple service and bulletproof reliability. Plus you get power steering and power brakes as part of the package, so it's pretty street friendly. The aforementioned TH400 was rebuilt in February 2015 with a B&M torque converter and a shift kit and it powers a set of 4.11 gears on a Posi limited slip inside a 12-bolt rear end. The stainless Magnaflow exhaust system sounds heroic at speed and with a custom set of traction bars on the leaf spring rear suspension, this one leaves the line pretty hard, especially with those 275/60/15 Mickey Thompson meats on the rear wheels.
