1952 Chevrolet Styleline Special You see those guys and gals driving their classic cars over to the local cruise nights all summer long. You’ve thought about how much fun it would be to have your own car and join in, but you don’t have a fortune to spend on one. Plus with vintage cars, sometimes it’s difficult to know what you’re really getting. A plastic-filled bucket of rust hidden under a pretty paint job? Maybe a motor on its last leg, but with shiny chrome valve covers? If you’ve had any of these conversations in your head, then this is the car for you. This ‘52 Chevy is as solid as they come, runs great and is priced right! My pop has had grease on his hands since he was a teenager. Although it was never his primary business, he has always had a restoration in our driveway. Now retired, he passes his time by picking up cars that are good candidates to start with. He then spends a couple of years putting them back together and when completed sells them to very happy buyers. When his cars hit the marketplace, they are in “turn key and go” condition, ready to drive. The bodies are straight and solid and everything works as it should. If something needed attention, it got it long before the car is even shown to a perspective buyer. No surprises, nothing hidden. What you see is what you get. Enough about the builder, let’s talk about the build. This ’52 Chevy had been asleep in a garage for forty years! It was last inspected by the state of New Jersey in 1971 as evident by the sticker on the windshield. It retains its original, rust-free floors, rockers and trunk. The odometer reads 43,888. While we can’t guarantee that’s the original mileage, that is what it reads. The pictures show the condition of the body, very straight and solid. The trunk has been coated with POR 15 to prevent the possibility of future rust problems. A new trunk seal is in place, along with all new weather seals around the doors. All the window glass is in good shape with none needing replacement. All the trim pieces are present. The hood ornament and original hubcaps are also included, but are not currently on the car. Body color looks like it is in primer, but is actually painted matt black. This combined with those gleaming wide whitewall tires and chrome caps create the look that is so popular today. The interior bench seats are more comfortable than your living room sofa and are original as well. The upholstery is in fair condition and doesn’t show any major rips or tears. The dash has been freshly painted and the chrome polished to a brilliant shine. All the gauges are clear and working properly. Lights, horn, heater, everything works. Under the hood is a 1954 Chevrolet 235 motor. (not original) Motor has been bored .30 over and has NEW pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump and fuel pump. The electrical system has been converted to 12V and has a NEW alternator and battery. The drivetrain continues on to a ’54 Power Glide, 3-speed manual transmission connected to a .355 rear. This is the reliable combination that can take you across town or across the country with ease. Other brand NEW components include a complete, whisper-quiet exhaust system, gas tank and sending unit, all steel brake lines and all rubber brake hoses, fan belts, radiator hoses, spark plug wires, plugs, fluids, etc. The master cylinder has been rebuilt as well. This car requires nothing more than a new owner with a desire to drive a classic automobile rather than work on one. No disappointments here. Because they bought it from the original owner in 1978 as their first car! This is one of the best examples in the world! It is fully documented, from the original purchase invoice from the day after Thanksgiving of 1950 until the restoration in 2004. This is the car to buy!! Because of the history and sentiment for the Coupe, this example benefitted from a no-expense spared total restoration. The original 216-c.i. six-cyinder engine was completely overhauled as was the original three-speed manual transmission. The car runs and drives beautifully. Look closely at the details in the photo gallery and video. The quality of the restoration is fantastic. This Chevy was bought new on November 24th, 1950 by Ruth Smallwood of Merchantville, NJ from Budd Motor Company in Woodbury, NJ. She enjoyed the car sparingly until February 4th, 1978 when she sold it to the current owner who now lives in Temecula, CA. He was 15 years old at the time so his parents signed the bill of sale for him! He's had the car ever since. It has travelled a total of 71,000 miles since new. We love the color combination of the soft yellow with black accents. The Coupe was originally all black but who would argue that it doesn't look much improved with the two toning. The quality of the paint is top notch, far better than Chevrolet ever produced from the factory. The chrome and stainless are show quality and all the rubber seals are new as well. The interior upholstery is gorgeous and correct. It is a soft and luxurious broadcloth with an elegant stripe. Most all of the Deluxe accessories were added to this Special coupe and are in new condition. We especially like the Fulton Sun Shield as it accentuates the split windshield sportiness of the Coupe's design. During restoration power steering and power disc brakes were added for increased drivability. Included in the sale of the Styleline is the original sales invoices, the bill of sale from 1978 and an original sales brochure. Also included are some vintage photos of the car from decades past as well as a car cover. Also included is a full file of restoration photos detailing the thousands of hours of craftsmanship dedicated to this motorcar. If you are looking for a Chevy coupe, this is the one to buy. This Chevy was bought new on November 24th, 1950 by Ruth Smallwood of Merchantville, NJ from Budd Motor Company in Woodbury, NJ. He was 15 years old at the time so his parents signed the bill of sale for him! He's had the car ever since. It has travelled a total of 71,000 miles since new. We love the color combination of the soft yellow with black accents. The Coupe was originally all black but who would argue that it doesn't look much improved with the two toning. The quality of the paint is top notch, far better than Chevrolet ever produced from the factory. The chrome and stainless are show quality and all the rubber seals are new as well. The interior upholstery is gorgeous and correct. It is a soft and luxurious broadcloth with an elegant stripe. Most all of the Deluxe accessories were added to this Special coupe and are in new condition. We especially like the Fulton Sun Shield as it accentuates the split windshield sportiness of the Coupe's design. During restoration power steering and power disc brakes were added for increased drivability. Included in the sale of the Styleline is the original sales invoices, the bill of sale from 1978 and an original sales brochure. Also included are some vintage photos of the car from decades past as well as a car cover. From 1939-1945, World War II war production was the primary focus of American manufacturing. The rationing, sacrifice, and hardships of these war years resulted in an explosion of demand for consumer products after the war. One of the first wants of most American families was a new automobile. In 1949, Chevrolet trumped the competition with the first new post war styling. Chevrolet overhauled the entire lineup in 1949, moving from prewar designs to brand new cars with modern full width bodies and pontoon fenders. The division offered Special and Deluxe models in both Fleetline and Styleline series. Buyers could buy a bare bones coupe for as little as $1,300, or could move all the way up to $2,200 for an eight passenger station wagon. Virtually every body type and price level was offered in between. Each year, from 1949 to 1952, Chevrolet improved on their design. The 1952 model was the pinnacle of the first post war generation Chevrolets. Advertising touted the 1952 Chevrolet Styleline and Fleetline models as "More beautiful than ever." Reacting to the Korean conflict, civilian automobile production was cut this year, causing all automakers to post considerably smaller totals. Even with only 818,142 cars built, Chevrolet again scored well ahead of Ford, with Plymouth and Buick trailing far behind. Fast forward to the 80's and 90's. By this time, the first nostalgia craze swept the nation. Car enthusiasts everywhere had a burning desire to modify and upgrade the unique post war automobiles that they remembered riding in when they were children. The 1949-1952 Chevrolet was the model of choice for various reasons. First, because they outsold all other manufacturers, there were more available. Second, the aerodynamic design was perfect for street machines, and especially at the drag strip. Most importantly, most gear heads were familiar with the venerable small block Chevy engine. They were easy to maintain, parts were readily available, and when modified they went fast! Please read the entire ad.
