The Impala is a full-size front-wheel drive sedan capable of carrying up to six people. It comes in four trim levels: LS, LT, LTZ, and SS. The LS and LT include a 211 hp 3.5-liter V6 engine which is also available in an E85-capable version. The LT is available with a 233 hp 3.9-liter E85-capable V6 which is standard on the LTZ. The SS comes with a 303 hp 5.3-liter V8 engine. All trims come with a four-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes front bucket seats and front, side and side curtain airbags. The Chevrolet Impala is a carryover from 2007. Source: Model Reviews Introduction The Chevrolet Impala is a big, roomy sedan. While classified as a midsize sedan, it's large for that class. Close in size to the Toyota Avalon, competes with mid-size and full-size cars. Among them: the Ford Taurus, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, as well as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima. We find the Impala's neat, clean lines pleasing to the eye. Its styling looks fresh, and it is, having been sharpened when the Impala was last redesigned for 2006. Other people think so: the Impala is among the top-10 best-selling cars in the U.S. This is a roomy car, in the front as well as the back seats, and getting in and out is easy. The Impala has a big trunk with a big trunk lid that makes loading cargo easy, and it has a healthy cargo capacity. Optional flip-and-fold rear seats are exclusive in its class, and provide not only holding wells for groceries but a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items. On the road, the Impala is very stable, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the larger of the two available V6 engines, a 3.9-liter V6 with advanced technologies. Step on the gas and it goes. Given its size, the Impala handles well, and surprisingly so. Several models are available, ranging from strong, reliable, fuel-efficient family sedan to sleek and powerful performance car. The mid-level Impala LT probably best exemplifies the model line. We like the LT with the optional 3.9-liter V6, which features GM's Active Fuel Management to improve real-world fuel economy. The LTZ adds a heavy-duty suspension, leather interior and convenience features. The SS comes with a small-block 5.3-liter V8 engine that sounds great and delivers strong acceleration performance. Chevrolet continues to improve and upgrade the Impala. We highly recommend the StabiliTrak electronic stability control. The audio system has been upgraded for 2008, and XM Satellite Radio is standard on all models. OnStar is standard, and in its latest version it will automatically communicate the nature and severity of a crash as well as its location to the 911 centers. Source: New Car Test Drive Walkaround The 2008 Chevrolet Impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car. Most recently re-styled for 2006, the current Impala features smooth lines. The big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well. These details complement other quality attributes, such as tight tolerances of 3.5 mm or less between body panels and substantial grab-style door handles that won't pinch your fingers or snap away from your hand on a cold morning. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise. The LS, LT and LTZ are distinguished by exterior trim but share one front end design, while the SS sports a unique grille with SS-signature black-diamond crosshatch pattern. The Impala SS also features Corvette-inspired bright exhaust tips. A rear spoiler is standard on LTZ and SS models, and is available on LT. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression The Chevrolet Impala features a new generation of V6 engines. We found them to be smooth and quiet if not bristling with power. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft automatically, adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions. The 3.5-liter V6 that comes standard on LS and LT generates 211 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. It gets an EPA-rated 18/29 mpg City/Highway. The FlexFuel version gets the same 18/29 mpg rating on gasoline or 14/21 mpg with E85 ethanol, useful in areas that sell ethanol. The 3.9-liter V6 (optional on LT, standard on LTZ) produces 233 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It features a variable-length intake system and variable valve timing. It also features Active Fuel Management, electronic software that shuts off three cylinders when full power is not needed. Chevrolet says Active Fuel Management improves fuel economy by up to 12 percent in certain driving situations. Chevy has applied this technology before to V8s (where it was called Displacement on Demand), but this is its first appearance on a V6. The 3.9-liter V6 gets and EPA-rated 18/28 mpg, and it's FlexFuel capable and rated 13/20 mpg on E85. The four-speed automatic transmission is responsive and was never an issue, though some of the competition now offers more flexible five-speed automatics. The V8 that comes on the SS delivers 303 horsepower and 323 pound-feet of torque. That's more power than any other entry in the class. To sample that, we slammed the throttle open at a stop in first gear. The traction control system let the left front tire spin wildly for a few seconds before it caught up. We appreciated the extra power and torque available in a kickdown or passing situation, and we loved the brawny, muscular sound of this engine at full throttle. It's a challenge to launch quickly and cleanly at the same time, however. Besides wheelspin, there's a lot of torque steer: Slam down the throttle and you'll feel a significant tug on the steering wheel. The V8 features Active Fuel Management, which shifts between eight-cylinder and four-cylinder operation, depending on speed and load. The V8 is EPA-rated at 16/24 mpg using the more stringent 2008 test procedures. All Impalas come with a MacPherson-strut coil-over-spring independent front suspension, with gas-charged struts and a stabilizer bar. The rear suspension uses a trailing tri-link setup with gas-charged struts and coil springs. A rear stabilizer bar is standard on all models. LS and LT models come with the softer FE1 suspension, while LTZ and SS come with the performance-tuned FE3 setup. We found a lot of pitch, dive, and roll in the chassis, plus a lot of uncertain driving moments with the added power of the SS. The SS, particularly, drives as though its chassis needed more development time before production. Steering on all models is over-assisted, fairly numb and uncommunicative. The Impala's four-wheel disc brake system (vented in front, solid in rear) represents an improvement over previous generations. Comprising new front brakes, improved rear brakes, and a new brake booster, the system is designed for quieter operation, longer pad life, and more resistance to brake pulsation. ABS, when ordered, includes Electronic Brake-force Distribution and traction control. On the road we found the Impala's brakes very much to our liking: powerful, direct, and linear, with a nice, progressive ratio of pedal travel to stopping progression. Source: New Car Test Drive Interior The 2008 Impala has a lot going for it inside as well. Like the exterior, the cabin was completely redesigned for 2006, and has remained comfortably the same since then. The standard seats have firmer cushions and increased lumbar support compared to previous models. We didn't find the SS seats particularly comfortable or supportive. Lumbar support is too aggressive, while there's not enough side bolstering to retain the upper body in corners. A twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. Impala LS, LT and LTZ models have wood trim, with brushed silver trim a no-cost option on LT and LTZ. The SS comes standard with unique metallic trim panels, with wood as an option. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are a grade above average. The dual-zone climate control system that comes on all but the base LS model is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side-to-side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The driver information center offers more than 50 different alerts, depending on the vehicle's equipment. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff. For 2008, a new family of audio systems features radios compatible with Generation 7.0 OnStar. The base audio system comes with six speakers, AM/FM/CD/MP3 capability, and XM Satellite Radio. It features speed-sensing volume control and a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between AM, FM and XM. We really liked this system because we could set up all of our favorite stations in one row, for example, allowing us to quickly switch between AM news, XM news, FM music stations, and CDs. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Presets for the equalizer let you quickly switch settings from rock to country & western to talk radio. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. Not so with GM's radios. The Impala sound system is sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional system adds an in-dash six-CD changer. The premium system is Bose. All radios include a standard auxiliary input jack for external devices such as an iPod or remote cassette player. The new Generation 7.0 OnStar offers Turn-by-Turn navigation with the optional Directions and Connections service. Turn-by-Turn navigation directs the driver through the route by using the digital readout lines in the radio head. Directions are downloaded by the OnStar advisor to the vehicle and can be played back or paused anywhere from start to destination. Besides being easy to use (all directions are downloaded to the car by an advisor) Turn-by-Turn is less expensive than a GPS navigation system. The back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down; and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. A generous pass-through from the trunk can be created by flipping the seat bottoms forward and the seat backs flat. The trunk is larger than that of most mid-size cars, at 18.6 cubic feet, and a huge trunk opening makes loading easier. The Ford Explorer is a midsize sport utility that has been America's favorite for the last 15 years in a row. It is quieter, rides better, handles more precisely, and has a nicer interior than previous models. The Explorer lineup from bottom to top includes the XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. It is available with a 210 hp 4.0-liter V6 or 292 hp 4.6-liter V8. The XLS includes the 4.0-liter V6 engine and five-speed automatic. XLT adds a chrome grille, unique bumper and trim, power seat, fog lamps, puddle lamps, 16-inch tires and wheels, an overhead console and additional storage. The XLT sport adds performance tuning. The Eddie Bauer version includes things like running boards, 17-inch wheels, more wood and leather, and remote keyless entry. Source: Model Reviews Introduction When you mess with a winner, you must be very, very careful, and that's what Ford was when they redesigned the Explorer, America's favorite midsize sport utility for the last 15 years in a row. By careful we don't mean conservative, either. By careful, we mean Ford spent serious effort dotting the i's and crossing the t's, looking after the details that make all the difference. At the same time, Ford realigned the models and overhauled the pricing structure, giving customers more truck for less money, nearly $4,000 less in some cases. The new Explorer is available with a V6 or V8. It's a traditional midsize SUV with body-on-frame construction, and competes against the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner, and Nissan Pathfinder. We were well pleased with the new steering, the new suspension, and the new brakes used on the 2006 model, all of which have improved by at least one order of magnitude. The new 2006 Explorer is quieter than last year's model and it rides better. It also leans less in corners and the brakes are more responsive. The rear seats fold flatter than on last year's models and the interior has been improved throughout. Source: New Car Test Drive Walkaround The new 2006 Ford Explorer looks like the F-150 pickup in front, with finer, scaled-down features. There are four different grilles to distinguish the various models. The combination of more chrome, bigger and bolder lamps and the new square-cornered aero mirrors make it look more like a Lexus SUV than a Ford, and we mean that in the most complimentary way. They don't want you to mistake it, though, so every 2006 Explorer badge is about twice as big and twice as thick as those on 2005 models. Between the elaborate headlamps and the revamped rear lamps, it's a big, empty box with five large doors and a whole bunch of space inside. With the V8 engine, the new Explorer is rated to tow up to a whopping 7,300 pounds. And it's rated to carry up to 1,500 pounds of payload. Source: New Car Test Drive Driving Impression Two new engines are available for the 2006 Ford Explorer. The 4.0-liter single-overhead-cam V6 has been retuned with variable valve timing and is rated at 210 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. The V8 is the traditional 4.6-liter single-overhead-cam V8, but now it has three valves per cylinder, two intake and one exhaust, for better breathing, 53 additional horsepower at 292, and 300 pound-feet of torque. With the V6, you get a five-speed overdrive automatic. With the V8, you get a brand new Ford-built six-speed automatic overdrive transmission with full electronic control of upshifting, downshifting and torque converter functions. Both powertrains are quiet and smooth. The lighter V6 is a bit easier to turn and maneuver, but both are very pleasant, competent and quiet rides. Ford told us before we drove the truck that customers had demanded quieter operation from the new Explorer, so they have used the body-on-frame design to maximum advantage to quiet the truck down, isolate it from the road, and halt the transmission of noise and vibration. In this respect, Ford has done an exemplary job on the new truck. The AC system operates with 30 percent less noise yet moves and exchanges more air. Conversations are easily heard, the music sounds good, and the mirrors, with their new square corners defying aero logic, are mercifully quiet, as are the tires. This is a big, heavy family truck with 15 years of continuous sales success and a few dark episodes behind it (involving previous-generation models), so they have utterly bathed it in safety equipment, from standard Roll Stability Control (also used in Volvo, Land Rover, and other Ford Truck products) to smart air bags to side air bags to an air curtain setup for the second and third rows. Ford says it expects a full house of five-star safety ratings, the highest possible, when the truck is tested. The new steering on the 2006 Explorer has a much heftier feel at highway speeds with plenty of assist for parking. The new suspension is one of the most supple we've driven on any SUV in this big class. And the new brakes work much harder with much less pedal pressure and travel than before. Body roll is much better (the Explorer leans less in corners), and the general feeling of being planted on Earth is stronger on this new chassis. The new chassis is some 63-percent stiffer than before, and a stiff chassis is a key element for crisp handling and a smooth ride. This truck manages to be isolated from the road, but well connected to it, at the same time. Source: New Car Test Drive Interior Everything inside the Explorer is new for 2006. Every switch, button, face, texture and panel of the interior has been changed, changed to a much more modern, crisper presentation, one of Ford design boss J Mays's personal design campaigns brought to life. There is a dark wood for most models and darker, richer wood for the Eddie Bauer version. The graphics are accented with metal surrounds both shiny and matte, depending. On the downside, we saw a fair amount of glare reflected off the dash top onto the windshield of the early models we drove. Second-row seats are available as a 60/40 split bench seat, a 60/40 split bench with recline and third-row access, or two bucket seats and a console. The bucket seats are more comfortable for adults, but the bench seats fold down better for cargo. The third row, when ordered, sits almost two inches higher than before so kids can see out better. The third row is always a 50/50 split, but is available with manual or power folding and unfolding. And now the floor really is completely flat when all the seats are folded, with almost no forward rise (2 degrees as opposed to 10 before). With three seats, you get 13.6, then 43.9, then 83.7 cubic feet of space as the seats fold down; the five-seater has slightly more room with the seats folded. The DVD-based navigation system is very easy to use, with excellent colors and graphics, though the screen is on the small side. Ford designers may have gone over the top on the front door armrests, the latch pull, and the opening handle. The armrest is very large and filled with foam to assist in side crash protection, with the chrome latch pull rounded around the leading edge, but the door handle is buried underneath it, where the human wrist cannot comfortably go. Otherwise, the new Explorer interior works very well. The new seats are at once more supportive and more comfortable than the old, hard Explorer seats, the colors and trims and combinations are elegant and tasteful, the metallic trims just about right, not overdone. Source: New Car Test Drive Summary Ford is a lot better at trucks than cars these days, and with the new Explorer, they have shown just how good they are at getting the basics right and getting the pricing realigned. They understand that today's customer is keenly aware of all the choices in this segment, is simply not willing to pay as much for a new SUV as they may have been five years ago, and that the new customer wants more goodies for the money or he or she will go elsewhere. This new Explorer is as much an exercise in cost accounting as truck design, and it succeeds on both counts. Overall, a great value. Built at Dearborn Michigan Plant 06/18/1985. 1,159 Built with Engine and Transmission Codes. Purchased from San Antonio, Texas Police Officer November 2006 with 98,128 miles on Certified Calibration 140 MPH speedometer. 5.0l 302CU High Output engine with Edlebrock Intake, 600 CFM Holley Double Pumper Carb rebuilt Aug 2012 with Dual Snorkel Cold Air and reusable high flow filter. Ford Racing 303 cam, SVT headers, NASCAR Spec Blue Streak Wires, ACCEL Super Coil and WELLS Electronic Ignition. Engine runs strong and quickly revs 5,600 RPM, will break rear tires loose just rolling throttle. New rebuilt World Class T5 October 2013. Griffin High Performance Aluminum Radiator with electric fan and thermostat. Front shocks have adjustable camber plates. Front and rear heavy duty sway bars. Rear gears are Traction-Lok 2.73. Car cruises at 80 MPH at 2,200 RPM in 5th and drives straight on the highway. Front tires 215/60R16, Rear tires 245/50ZR16, all tires minimum 60% tread remaining. Exhaust are custom with brand unknown, but sound like my 95 SVT Cobra with Dynomax Ultra Flows. Has nice growl when during decelaration with no popping. Interior is very nice Canyon Red high quality vinyl upholstery. Carpet is also very nice. Hurst shifter with Pistol Grip.....what else....for Ranger car. Rear brakes/drums, Heater core and air conditioner accumulator replaced new Dec 2006. No radio, but has amp wired up in trunk. Unknown if amp works. Full sized spare tire in good condition. I've seen the hobby continue to grow not only at the auctions but also with the amount of television shows, magazines and websites that are related to classic cars in some form or another. I strongly believe the classic car market is a great place to invest in. When the economy is strong, the classic car market is extremely strong. When the economy isn't so strong the classic car market holds its own. I've sold classic cars and trucks in both economic conditions. The reason classic cars make such a great investment is because people are crazy about cars, especially the classics! I've learned it's not just the United States; it’s the entire world. Barrett Jackson stated, "Foreigners can sometimes represent 25% of the registered bidders at one of our auctions." At the Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale, AZ 2011 they stated, "There was a registered bidder from every state in the USA.” I've also learned that no matter the gender or age, all different people appreciate this hobby. The cars that are at every car show and auction and page on the Internet for sale are the ones that aren't changing in value or are slowly on the decline. Of course, if the car is spectacular it will command a higher price as I mentioned. It's all about supply and demand, not a good or bad economy. Custom cars have remained strong because each car is different from the next one. They each have their own character. “I’m putting my money where my mouth is” I’m just a 38 year old blue collar guy who was working full time selling new and used Mercedes Benz. I was selling my classic cars and trucks part time. Although I had my used car dealers license I didn’t have a facility that was open to the public. Overall things were going just fine. However, my dream was to open my own classic car and truck dealership. I decided to give up my full time job with health insurance and a 401K to open a new classic and truck dealership. Less than 200 Car coupes were awarded to Ford dealerships having the most Mustang pre-release orders/sales in early 1964. These Mustangs were presented to the winning dealers by Lee Iacocca in a ceremony held in Dearborn, Michigan in May 1964. These pace Car replicas were painted a brighter shade of “Pace Car White” designated by the code letter “C” on the door data tag which is unique to Pace Car coupes. ALL Pace Car coupes were identically equipped with the following: • Pace Car White paint with decals. • Spinner less wheel covers. • Side view mirrors delete. • Rear backup lights. • White upholstery with blue appointments. No floor mats. • AM radio. • Power steering. • 260 CID, 2BBL engine. • 3 speed cruise-o-matic This Mustang nick named “Indy” was awarded to a dealer in the Los Angeles area DSO 71. Most of its history is unknown. The simple white Mustang was discovered on Ebay fourteen years ago in 2000. The San Francisco area owner was not aware of its status as one of the rarest production Mustangs. Mike Epperson recognized the unique data plate and excitedly purchased the car. The complete story about his find is in the magazine article written by Monthly Monthly and included with the sale of the car! Mike started the extensive restoration in 2003 and completed it in 2006. As the photos below indicate this was a rotisserie restoration with no expense spared. It was truly a labor of love. Mikes wife Joyce says, “the ultimate goal for their Pace Car is the Conservator D’Elegance Cup. Someday, we might make it there”. Well, on 07-18-2010 there goal was met as the car achieved the Conservator award and was given number 57! During the restoration Mike was able to retain most of the original sheet metal. The passenger rear quarter was replaced with factory sheet metal, the floors needed some patch work and the rear deck panel was replaced. The radiator support still had the factory “Pace Car” etching which was painted over in black as it went down the assembly line prior to the exterior paint application. Mike used the same paint to paint over the etching exactly like the factory did. Photos of it before, during and after are pictured below. The body is very nice with great gaps. The hood, doors and trunk open and close nicely! The body was worked, primed and painted the correct “Pace Car White” which looks amazing. The decals and emblems were then applied in all the exact original locations. The front and rear glass was replaced. The side glass is original and in very nice condition. Everything else on the exterior such as the window trim, wipers, door handles, bumpers, grill, lights and bezels were restored or replaced. This car has eyeballs and gets a ton of attention! The exterior is complemented by a brand new correct interior. The white upholstery with blue accents is really a great color combination and matches the exterior color scheme. Everything in the interior is correct. It was all restored or replaced such as the headliner, sun visors, dash pad, dash, gauges, knobs, radio, door panels, handles, seats, seat belts, carpet, etc. Even the shifter handle is correct which is hard to find for a 64 ½ model. There were no floor mats in the Pace Car so that’s the reason there aren’t any currently in the car. The engine compartment is highly detailed and home to the 260 V8 engine. The firewall and inner fenders are very straight unlike many other earlier Mustangs. The engine is believed to be the original as its date coded. The engine was rebuilt prior to Mike purchasing the car and just needed to be cosmetically restored which it was. It starts and runs great. Matte of fact it purrs like a kitten. It’s equipped with all the correct accessories such as the valve covers, air cleaner, generator, power steering system, hoses, clamps, tar top battery, etc. When was the last time you’ve seen an engine compartment this detailed? It’s also believed to have the original date coded C-4 automatic transmission and rear end! The undercarriage is also highly detailed and all factory correct. It has been painted exactly like the factory did it with the right colors and overspray, etc. Everything underneath the car was restored or replaced including such items as the front and rear suspension, braking system, gas tank with fuel lines, etc. This is a car that needs to be displayed with mirrors underneath it at a car show so people can see the attention to detail. Ford : Mustang Coupe 1965 MUSTANG COUPE FROM OKLAHOMA DSO - ORIGINALLY TROPICAL TURQUOISE

"Ran when parked in the barn." Appears to be complete, was blocked up and stored for over twenty-two years, with the tires and wheels removed. Clear Indiana title. A work in progress. If you are looking for a solid tropical turquoise car to restore with an Oklahoma DSO, this is it. The Oklahoma City sales area also included Tulsa the Texas panhandle, including Amarillo and Lubbock, as I understand it. The O code paint was only available on a Mustang this one year. It was not available on the 1964 1/2 cars. According to the ISOM registry, there were only around 70 accounted as the time of the survey about 20 years ago, and that included wrecking yard finds that likely no longer exist. Tropical Turquoise is the only paint name color I can find that General Motors and Ford had in common. You will find many 50's Chevies with it, both cars and trucks. I know, you either love it or hate it, but in my opinion, this Mustang needs to go back to its original tropical color. At present the original tropical is visible under the carpets and in other places that were missed in a later red repaint. Red is what you see it on it today until I can get around to putting it back to O code. Based upon ISOM findings, a tropical turquoise O code paint pony is the least common to survive of the stock factory paint codes used for 1965 on the Mustang except for I (Champaign Beige). It runs about equal with code 7, Phoenician Yellow. [Note: One of the neat things about 60's Fords were the number of special paint orders that could and did take place. Ford colors from other car lines such as Thunderbird or Galaxie could be custom-ordered for a Mustang, and there was a corporate sales chart with a rainbow of one-off colors if you did not find what you liked in the Mustang sales brochures.] As you know, April 17 that just passed was the introduction date for the Ford Mustang back fifty years ago, and the early production had started on March 9, 1964. Cars shipped to dealers were kept under wraps, and it was a nifty introduction, with depowered cars used in the Ford pavillion at the New York World's Fair, and later brought back to the factory, rebuilt, and sold to the public. A car was taken apart and displayed on the observation deck of the Empire State Building, at that time the tallest building in the world. The way the car was introduced created a sensation, and set many standards for subsequent marketing campaigns across multiple product lines. There was a shortage of vehicles available for sale, and waiting lists developed which had not happened in the automobile industry since around 1953, when the "big three" finally caught up with pent-up post war demand that had built while automobile manufacturers had been converted to military production only. Originally produced only at Dearborn, as this car was, two additional plants were converted at least partially to Mustang building to keep up with the buying frenzy, the Edison, New Jersey plant, which is now gone, and the Milpitas, California plant, which has now been converted into a shopping mall [a few rare Mustangs eventually also received final assembly in three other locations...Mexico, Australia, and a handful in Europe]. Today, Mustangs are no long assembled at Dearborn either, but at another suburban location south of Detroit. There have been many books written about the people behind the Mustang at Ford, and the processes that were developed in coming up with the brand and the original design. Ford had just come off a big write-off on the Edsel, and management was not anxious to make another costly mistake. The T-5 program, as it was then called within the Ford inner circles, was finally green-lighted in 1962, and the rest, as they say, is history. Those involved became heroic, often iconic figures. Many have said the development of the middle class in the United States gave rise to the demand for second cars, and others have commented that the GI's coming home from the Korean and World Wars were ready for something new. There were several currents ebbing and flowing in the ocean of car building, one was the muscle car movement, where bigger engines were being stuffed into smaller platforms, like Pontiac's Tempest, which was crammed with horsepower and morphed into a GTO sub-model. Another was the coming fuel efficiency movement, where families began opting for something less than the ever longer ever wider ever humongously thirsty family four door sedan. Ford hit the nail on the head by offering any number of options, engine sizes, transmission packages, colors, and decor combinations. The long-hood/short trunk styling started the "pony car" movement. It was a monster at Ford, and like McDonald's hamburger signs, production numbers kept setting new records, with over half a million sold in the extended model year. This particular example was Michigan-assembled in January 1965 was found in 2014 with a 4-V carburetor. The engine runs but needs a carb rebuild, now being addressed. The engine oil, transmission fluid, and radiator coolant have been drained and refreshed. The fuel system has been cleaned. Braking system has been gone through and brakes work. Floors, rockers, and torque boxes solid and intact. The doors look good, with no visible rust in the corners or on the bottoms. The data plate is intact, although it has been painted over. The VIN number on the inner fender matches the title and the door data plate. There is a little corner damage on the passenger side front corner of the hood. Driver's front fender has a cut spot behind the corner of the bumper. Trunk lid roof and doors have no visible damage. Slight bit of bondo in the driver's side rear trunk drop-down. Mileage not verified, but looks appropriate for the number of years of storage. Wheels are after market, and tires are not safe to drive on due to their age. They do hold air. You may inspect this car in Indiana, just south of Chicago. I will be happy to post any photos you might want on my website. Offering for sale as-is-as-priced for a short period of time, but anticipating a restoration will be starting in the near future. $100 reward for previous ownership information and/or confirmation of which Oklahoma DSO dealership might have originally sold this car in early 1965. It could have come out of Oklahoma or the Texas panhandle. There could not have been too many new tropical turquoise Mustangs galloping around Oklahoma or the Texas panhandle, early in 1965. They share a lot of hardware with their Mustang cousin, but consider cars like this documented 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 the "fashionista" of the pony car segment. They're posh in appearance, but muscular by nature. This well-maintained Cougar left the Dearborn, Michigan plant finished in a coat of Dark Ivy Green Metallic and today it wears that same correct earth tone hue well. As you walk around the vehicle, it's hard to spot any significant flaws. The paint is smooth and still shows deep reflections with subtle metallic flakes glistening under that clean clearcoat. Spanning the length of the car is a two-tone pinstripe that doesn't show any fading or wear, and looks like it was almost applied yesterday. Up front is a full-width grill that is characterized by hideaway head lights and vertical bars. Clean chrome bumpers sit at the front and rear with the rear bumper being capped by the distinctive rear tail lamp. All of the badges and trim are present, and that handsome stance sits on very clean 14'' Mercury rally wheels. Slide into the factory correct Medium Saddle leather bucket seats and you'll start to notice the details of being in the more upscale pony car. Those plush and fashionable buckets flank a center console that is accented in wood appliqu and hosts a storage compartment that doubles as an arm rest, a cigarette lighter, and the gear selector for the automatic transmission. Moving up pass the gear selector are controls for the heat and ventilation with a Philco AM/FM radio above that. Top dead center of the dash are four switches that operate the different lights throughout the cabin such as a the map light and panel lights. With some tasteful 'Cougar' badging, the rest of the dash houses a clock mounted in front of the passenger and factory instrumentation in front of the driver, while all being surrounded by more clean wood appliqu. Tying up the fashionable feel is an beautifully finished 'XR7' branded, 3-spoke steering wheel trimmed with wood grain. Have a look at the Marti Report that is included with the sale and you'll discover that this car is actually 1 of 982 that were finished in a Dark Green Ivy Metallic/Medium with a Saddle Leather trim combination! Lift the hood on this big cat and you're greeted by a wonderfully detailed engine bay. Front and center is a correct 351-2V Windsor V8. That V8 appears to be very clean and proudly displays chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner lid. There is a correct Autolite battery and regulator, and the radiator even retains its correct tag. Power is fed to an FMX Merc-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and is then sent to a Ford 9'' rear that houses 2.75 gears. The undercarriage hangs an H-pipe dual exhaust system, while power steering and power brakes with discs up front maintain a pleasant driving experience. Delivering that power to the pavement is 225/70/14 Kelly Charger tires at all four corners. Also included with this sale is a the previously stated Marti Report, a copy of the dealer invoice, maintenance receipts, a log book of maintenance records, and an original owner's manual. Before we get too far lets decode the VIN and take a look at the Marti Report that accompanies the vehicle. 0F02G******0: 1970 F: Built at Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant 02: Mustang Sportsroof G: 302-4V boss The Marti report explains that this Boss sportsroof is 1 of only 6 ordered with these paint/trim codes and was ordered with the following options: Four-speed close ratio manual transmission Traction-lok differential F60X15 belted tires w/ raised white letters Sport deck rear seat Console Power Steering AM Radio Decor Group Tachometer Wearing a glossy coat of clean, Wimbledon White paint, this pony's current condition is the product of a professional, rotisserie restoration that was completed in late 1993. The car's straight, original sheetmetal was stripped, sanded and bathed in a modern two-stage pigment. And that smooth finish was, after being buffed to a mirror-like shine, trimmed in correct Boss 302 war paint. The classic black Boss stripes start down the hood, dip across the fenders, and travel to the rear of the car, forming one of the most revered and sought after looks of the era. For 1970 the Mustang received a smoother body, a less aggressive face, a flat rear valence and a variety of balanced trim tweaks. The idea was to tame looks that some believed were hindering sales and better the car's performance in crucial SCCA Trans Am events. At the leading edge of this super slick Boss, a correct, Mustang-branded grille hangs bright halogen headlights between familiar 'fender fins', a pristine bumper, clear parking lamps and an aggressive chin spoiler. At the top of that grille, a solid Mustang hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's framed in satin-finished wipers, correct sport mirrors and straight stainless trim. At the sides of that glass, the fenders combine with chrome-trimmed marker lamps and classy chrome door handles to provide an aggressive, yet finished appearance. And at the back of those fenders, a Satin Black valence anchors an ornate fuel filler and segmented tail lights between a correct decklid spoiler, a fresh "MUSTANG" script, a second pristine bumper and wide-set reverse lamps. Motivation is provided by the original numbers matching Ford small block that, thanks to a recent rebuild, makes killer horsepower. That raucous mill wears a matching VIN and was covered in traditional blue skin and centered between crisp, Satin Black fenders. At the top of the motor, a correct Holley 4-barrel rides between finned aluminum valve covers and below a chrome air box that wears the 302-4V BOSS stickers. In front of that carburetor, a red MSD coil sparks the MSD distributor, which sends power through Taylor Spiro Pro wires. At the sides of the motor, long tube Ford headers send spent gases into a true dual exhaust system and, in front of the motor, a large radiator sends water through hoses outfitted with tight hose clamps. The engine bay, much like the rest of the car is a beautiful blend of old school horsepower and modern componentry. Aesthetically, the bottom of this clean Ford has been restored to the same high standards as its striking exterior and pristine engine compartment. Behind the motor, a close-ratio 4-speed spins a Ford 9" with 4.10 gears. Holding that awesome drivetrain off the ground is a correctly restored suspension which features factory power steering. At the ends of that suspension, stopping power is entrusted to modern 4-wheel Baer power disc brakes to provide competent track capability. Overhead, clean, oversprayed floorpans, look solid and ready to hit the road. In the middle of those floors, a fresh true-dual exhaust system pipes roasted dinosaurs through an H-shaped crossover and through chambered mufflers to create a glorious sound. At the sides of that exhaust, 17" Torq Thrust 5-spoke rims twist 255/45R17 Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval rubber. And everything, from this Mustang's stainless fuel tank to its factory sway bars, is fully sorted, ready to show and itching to go! Open this coupe's doors and you'll find nostalgic Detroit styling that's wrapped in traditional Blue vinyl. Restored bench and bucket seats sport freshly pleated covers that, judging by their appearance, enjoyed very little road time. The vintage aura continues onto the dashboard, which offers a pleasant layout of analog gauges. And in front of the driver, a speed-drilled steering wheel spins a beefy black rim around a classy pony insignia. At the floor, a traditional Hurst T-handle rides inside a stylish, hard-lined console.
