First and foremost, they want something that's super cool. Secondly, they want something that's reliable. And last but not least, they want something that doesn't require a second job to finance. Fortunately, the gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte pride themselves on specializing in first-rate classics of all kinds. And they always have cars, like this awesome 1970 Buick GS455, that are a perfect fit for anyone. Sporting an original 455, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 and fantastic white on green aesthetics, this sublime drop-top is certainly some of the coolest metal to ever roll out of Detroit. Thanks to a high quality restoration, the car can be driven and enjoyed for years without worry. And as a fully documented, numbers-matching classic that's priced at only $80K, it's a solid deal on some impressive muscle! BODYWORK/TRIM Decked in retro Seamist Green single-stage, this awesome Buick rolled off GM's Fremont, California assembly line during the first week of March, 1969 and headed straight for Hawaii. After 37 years serving just two owners, the car was shipped back to the mainland in need of minor repair. And, when it fell into the hands of a third owner, it became the focal point of a detailed, 5-year restoration that wrapped in the summer of 2014. During that thorough reboot, straight and solid sheetmetal was worked to better-than-new condition. Fresh Seamist Green 2-stage was topped with correct White vinyl. And presently, this GS rolls as a rare and unique classic that's exactly the kind of all-business, no-nonsense muscle car Buick always intended it to be. By 1970, Buick had pretty much perfected its top dog performance offerings both mechanically and aesthetically. At the front of the car, a clean, silver grille hangs a bold GS emblem between a re-chromed bumper, chrome-trimmed headlights and clear parking lamps. Behind that grille, a scooped hood hides correctly recessed wipers at the base of factory tint glass and original stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, traditional door handles and color-keyed sport mirrors perfectly complement fresh wheel frames, red-trimmed rocker guards and fresh GS ornamentation. And at the back of the car, a second re-chromed bumper centers a classy "BUICK" script between clear tail lamps, correct deck trim and a fourth "GS" emblem. ENGINE While the exterior of this slick A-Body does an excellent job of upholding GM Design's world-class visual aesthetics, the engine compartment is where purists REALLY start to take notice. And for good reason too, because the burly, 455 cubic inch V8 that's bolted between the car's freshly detailed fenders is the kind of killer powerhouse that makes people either put up or shut up. Turn the key and a big Quadrajet carburetor mixes air from a black, dual-snorkel cleaner with fuel that's supplied by carefully bent stainless, and shoves it into a correct, cast iron intake. That intake feeds cast iron heads, which ride between a familiar points distributor and high quality Super Max plug wires. Spent gases are jetted through correct, cast iron manifolds, which ride under traditional, stamped steel valve covers. And a large radiator, which circulates water around an old school Frigidaire AC compressor via pliable hoses and reproduction tower clamps, provides cooling. The bright red block looks fantastic, framed in Satin Black fenders and dressed in an array of correct decals. Well-planned details, like an authentic Delco Moraine brake booster, a Saginaw steering box and a high quality Delco battery topper, prove someone spent a lot of time executing this Buick's top-notch restoration. And naturally, the monster mill displays a correct 1231738 casting number and matching partial VIN. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Under this Buick, it's just as the factory planned, except with much more precision and, subsequently, much more appeal. An original, "BA" branded Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed sends power to a familiar 10-bolt that's equipped with mild, 3.08 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a familiar double A-arm front and 4-link rear suspension that's equipped with factory power steering. During restoration, power-assisted drums were completely rebuilt to factory specifications. On the outside of those brakes, chrome Magnum 500s twist 245/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 255/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As. The aforementioned manifolds dump spent gases in to aluminized pipes, which follow an X-shaped crossover with throaty Pypes Street Pro mufflers. The car's frame, free of any major damage, is painted black to match its solid, undercoated floors. And, in keeping with the 455 up top, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under this classic is clean, mean and ready to go! INTERIOR Pop the sculpted doors and you'll find a correct code 175 Ivory interior that's still restoration-fresh in virtually every way. Comfy seats and fade-free door panels continue the placid feeling of the soothing Seamist Green exterior. In front of the car's rare, power-adjustable front bench, an original dash frames a vintage Sonomatic radio, controls for Harrison air conditioning and crystal clear telemetry. At the base of that dash, heavy duty, shield-branded floor mats protect like-new carpet. In front of the driver, a cool Buick steering wheel laps a tilting column that's fitted with a simple shifter. Behind the passengers, a bright convertible cowl snaps tight over a lighted trunk that's complete with a fresh mat, a correct jack, a full-size spare tire and a new decklid decal. And factory power windows join a power-operated roof in welcoming cool spring mornings and crisp fall evenings. HISTORICAL INFORMATION With this unique GS, authenticity is inborn. Here's a breakdown of the car's specially coded VIN and original cowl tag. Its killer V8 will cruise effortlessly at will, and its slick body, classy interior and tough transmission are desirable attributes that set it apart from run-of-the-mill A-Bodies. Reasonable offers will be considered, by reallistic bidders, bid with confidence our auctions are completely transparent. IntroductionThe 2010 Maserati GranTurismo is one of those rare cars that, once seen, is hard to forget. It has an elusive and intoxicating mix of aggression and grace. The fluid lines of the sheet metal seem to be stretched tight over a muscular form, with curves in all the right places. Then there's the sound -- a glorious exhaust note that could have inspired the likes of Verdi, Mozart and Puccini.Beauty is also found within, with a sportingly opulent cabin and the mechanicals to both excite and comfort. The GranTurismo's 4.2- or 4.7-liter engines are both silky smooth when driven conservatively, and exhilarating when pushed into their higher reaches. Switching from Normal to Sport mode further enhances the experience, quickening gearchanges and throttle response while also opening up the exhaust baffles. As the name suggests, the GranTurismo is a touring car, not an out-and-out exotic sports car. There's certainly more than enough power and handling to get the blood racing, though the Maserati is outperformed by several competitors -- but not outclassed. As a GT car, it does just as is should by balancing thrilling athleticism with long-distance comfort. In terms of price, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Audi R8 represent the closest competitors with the added benefit of higher performance. The BMW M6 is also quicker while also costing less, and the stalwart Porsche 911 is similarly worthy of consideration. The Jaguar XKR and Mercedes CL550 will also save you some cash with a healthy dose of luxurious comfort. When it comes to a beautiful rolling sculpture that hits all of the GT bases, though, it's hard to overlook -- or forget -- the Maserati GranTurismo.Body Styles, Trim Levels, and OptionsThe 2010 Maserati GranTurismo is a four-passenger coupe that is offered in two trim levels: base and S Automatic. A new convertible version is also available, and is covered in a separate review. The base GranTurismo features 19-inch alloy wheels; adaptive xenon headlights with washers; foglights; power-folding and heated sideview mirrors; automatic wipers; Brembo brakes; an electronically adjustable "Skyhook" suspension; rear parking sensors; auto-dimming mirrors; dual-zone automatic climate control; leather upholstery; heated front seats; driver seat memory; wood interior trim; voice-activated navigation; Bluetooth; and an 11-speaker Bose surround-sound system with a CD player, satellite radio, digital music storage, iPod integration and auxiliary/USB input jacks. The GranTurismo S Automatic includes all of the above, plus a more powerful engine, an automated manual transmission, larger brakes, a sport exhaust, 20-inch wheels, and unique front and rear spoilers. Additionally, the GranTurismo S can be optioned with a non-adjustable sport suspension and aluminum pedals.Options on either GranTurismo trim include front parking sensors, two-tone interior colors, an Alcantara headliner and perforated leather seats. Customers looking for a personalized approach may select from several interior colors, stitching, wheel styles and brake caliper finishes. Furthermore, buyers can specify any exterior color they desire, for a price and wait, of course.Powertrains and PerformanceThe base 2010 Maserati GranTurismo is powered by a 4.2-liter V8 that produces 405 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is a six-speed automatic that sends power to the rear wheels. The GranTurismo S Automatic receives a 4.7-liter V8 that bumps output to 433 hp and 361 lb-ft of torque.Maserati estimates acceleration from zero to 60 mph at 5.1 seconds for the base GranTurismo and 4.9 seconds for the S Automatic. EPA-estimated fuel economy is identical for both models, at 13 mpg city/20 mpg highway and 15 mpg in combined driving.SafetyStandard safety features for the GranTurismo lineup include antilock brakes with brake assist, automatic hill hold, stability control, traction control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags.Interior Design and Special FeaturesThe 2010 Maserati GranTurismo's interior is tastefully appointed with the finest materials and craftsmanship money can buy. The cabin is elegantly luxurious without appearing stodgy, with just a hint of sports car influence. Leather graces almost every surface and can be ordered in a wide array of colors. Controls are well-placed and simple in operation.Front-seat comfort is excellent, with well-bolstered seats and ample cushioning for long-distance comfort. Unlike other cars in this class, the GranTurismo also boasts comfortable rear seats for medium-sized adults. Unfortunately, finding luggage space for four adults will prove difficult, as the trunk can only accommodate up to 9.2 cubic feet -- well short of competing coupes.Driving ImpressionsThe 2010 Maserati GranTurismo artfully balances a luxurious ride with sporting athleticism. The suspension is compliant enough to absorb most road imperfections with ease without feeling overly soft or wallowy. The GranTurismo's 49/51 front/rear weight distribution allows for added entertainment through curves, while the suspension keeps the body flat when cornering. For drivers who desire even more sports car dynamics, the Sport mode revises gearshift points, sharpens throttle response and stiffens up the suspension. This mode also opens up a baffle in the exhaust for added performance and sweetens the engine's already glorious soundtrack. On the downside, the steering feel is on the light side and could use a bit more feedback at higher speedSpecifications LENGTH 16ft 0.2inWIDTH 6ft 3.4inHEIGHT 4ft 5.3inBody style illustration may not reflect the actual shape of this vehicle.Exterior Measurements WIDTH6 ft. 3.4 in. THIS WAS AN ENCLOSED TRAILORED BMW SHOW CAR IN EUROPE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS AMD THAN 9,000 MILES PUT ON HER(ROAD MILES) IN 10 MONTHS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ----------------------- Full 2013 BMW M6 Review No Video Content What's New for 2013 The 2013 BMW M6 has been fully redesigned. Introduction Sometimes, a simple letter is all that's needed to get driving enthusiasts excited. Like the "Q" division in the storied James Bond series, BMW's M division combines science and engineering with a touch of madness to produce a vehicle that serves to inspire and excite. That "M" stands for motorsports, but in the case of the 2013 BMW M6, it might as well signify "more." After a two-year hiatus, the M6 is back. Besides the benefits that come with the new 6 Series (sharper styling, roomier front-seat accommodations and more useful trunk space), the M6 provides more power under the hood — a lot more power. Output from the M6's twin-turbo V8 even tops that of its predecessor's high-revving V10 engine. With 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque at your command, one might assume that the M6 is a handful to drive and a bit of an untamed beast. In classic M style, though, all of this power has been beautifully balanced by not only a well-tuned chassis but also an abundance of electronic assistants which together deliver a manageable and civilized ride. Thanks to top-notch interior materials, skillful assembly and all of the latest electronic conveniences found in luxury flagships, the 2013 BMW M6 won't require much in the way of sacrifices. If there is one complaint, it would be the hefty amount of weight here, which limits not only performance but also driver confidence. As a world-class high-performance touring car, the M6 excels. With a price tag just north of $100,000, we'd expect no less. At this level, the M6 competes with the Jaguar XKR, the Mercedes CL-Class and even the Audi R8. The M6 stands out in this group for its everyday versatility as well as its performance. The 2013 BMW M6 definitely delivers more of everything. No Video Content Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options The 2013 BMW M6 is available as either a coupe or convertible, both of which are offered in one, very well-appointed trim level. Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, adaptive suspension dampers, a power-operated fabric top (convertible), a sunroof (coupe), automatic adaptive xenon headlights, heated and power-folding mirrors, automatic wipers, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition/entry, sun-reflective leather upholstery, 16-way power heated front seats (with four-way lumbar support), front seat memory functions, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, carbon-fiber interior trim and interior ambient lighting. Electronic features include Bluetooth, BMW's iDrive interface, a rearview camera, a navigation system and a surround-sound audio system with a CD player, satellite radio and USB/iPod integration. Also included are driver-adjustable settings for the suspension, transmission, steering and engine in varying degrees of comfort to all-out performance. An optional Executive package includes LED headlights, soft-close automatic doors, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, massage functionality for the front seats and smartphone app integration. To that, the Driver Assistance package can be added, which includes automatic high beams, a lane-departure warning system, a blind-spot monitor and a speed limit information display and an array of cameras that provide top-down and around-the-corner views. Stand-alone options include some (but not all) of the packaged features along with 20-inch wheels, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, ventilated front seats, night vision with pedestrian detection, and various leather upholstery and interior wood trim choices. Powertrains and Performance Under the 2012 BMW M6's long hood is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that produces an impressive 560 hp (considered very underrated) and 500++ lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automated manual with shift paddles is the only transmission offered. It also has an automatic stop/start engine function to conserve fuel at stoplights. In Edmunds performance testing, a convertible M6 sprinted to 60 mph in a mere 4.2 seconds. We expect the coupe to be marginally quicker since it's lighter by some 480 pounds. Safety Standard safety equipment on all 2013 BMW M6s include antilock disc brakes with advanced standby and drying features, hill-hold control, traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags, knee airbags, active front-seat head restraints and the BMW Assist emergency telematics system. In Edmunds brake testing, a convertible M6 came to a stop from 60 mph in 108 feet, an average distance for this class of car on summer tires. Interior Design and Special Features As one would expect from a range-topping BMW and $100,000-plus vehicle, the 2012 M6's interior boasts excellent materials and world-class craftsmanship. The iDrive electronics interface competently manages the varied M6 systems, but some may find it a bit complicated when compared to some of the more intuitive controls in competing vehicles. Front seats feature lots of power adjustment to ensure either a comfortable fit or racecar-like lateral support. Rear-seat passengers will not fare nearly as well, as the cramped space is suitable only for small children. Unlike some other convertibles in this range, the drop-top M6 won't require much in the way of functional compromises. With the top up, the well-insulated cloth roof is free from any whistles or leaks at highway speed. With the top down, the glass rear window can be raised to provide an effective wind blocker, permitting civilized conversations and preventing a bad hair day. Also noteworthy is the useful trunk, which measures 12.4 cubic feet (10.6 cubic feet with the top retracted). The coupe's trunk holds 13 cubic feet. Driving Impressions It's a fair assumption that the 2013 BMW M6 will bring a smile to the face of the most power-hungry motorist. What we found surprising, however, is that the M6 is a joy to drive whether you're just leisurely cruising down the highway or stomping on the throttle. Thanks to adjustable settings for the suspension, steering, transmission and throttle response, the M6 can adapt to your every mood. In its sharpest performance settings, this car is a fire-breathing beast that snorts and snarls with uncommon aggression. Yet the acceleration won't terrify you, as it's accompanied by a refined stability control that modulates power delivery without completely shutting down all of the fun ---------------------------------------------- AVAILIBLE TRUE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY FROM BMW FOR FOUR MORE YEARS AND 60,000 MORE MILES, THE BEST , AN EXCLUSIONARY POLICY , ABOUT $2,500 COPY OF EXCLUSIVE TRUE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY FOR 4 MORE YEARS AND TO 60,000 MORE MILES FROM BMW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Though we have evaluated night vision systems in the past, this one proved to have far clearer images and was also able to highlight animals and pedestrians. Today’s systems utilize advanced infrared cameras to “see” heat, not light, making anything that has a “thermal” image visible even through darkness or fog. If the system determined that an animal or pedestrian was dangerously close or approaching the car’s lane of travel, it gave an audible beep and a visible warning in the car’s head-up display. This added warning proved important as the normal night vision view is on the screen in the dash and not in the driver’s normal line of sight—our only complaint. As with many new safety technologies, the newest night vision systems are currently available on BMW and other high-end makes such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz. Over time, the production cost and marketplace acceptance often allows pricey systems to “trickle down” to cars more of us can afford over time. We haven’t seen that with night vision yet, despite Cadillac's offering it many years ago. You can find headlight evaluations in the road tests. The importance of night vision Each year more than 4,000 pedestrians are killed, and tens of thousands more are injured, when struck by a car. Not surprising, nearly 70 percent of those impacts happen at night, when drivers have limited visibility. In Consumer Reports’ car evaluations, we include a test of how well each vehicle’s headlights allow you to see at night. This not only assesses each car’s lights, but allows us to speak to how different headlight types perform. Are LEDs better than HIDs? Are HIDs better than standard halogens? Regardless of headlight type, our evaluations do show that even the best of any type do not provide enough forward visibility to allow a driver to see, react, and brake for pedestrians or objects ahead unless they are going rather slowly. What this also means is that any technologies that help improve our nighttime visibility should positively affect pedestrian safety. A glimpse toward the future We also had the opportunity to drive a development vehicle equipped with BMWs Dynamic Light Spot. This system went one step further in not only detecting living obstacles, but by making them still more visible by shining a spotlightlike light on them to make the driver even more aware of their presence. Those of us who had a chance to drive this car commented that at times, the beam illuminated pedestrians we hadn’t even seen yet. The spotlight is generated from lights in the fog lamp housing, so it stays low and close to the road. It was quite effective. Currently, standards for lighting in the United States prohibit technologies such as this. The spotlight output exceeds maximum levels of light currently permitted, with the intention to eliminate a headlight’s potential for glare to oncoming drivers. Regulations also prohibit headlights and other forward lights from turning on and off during operation, a function limited to identifying emergency vehicles. But the low position of the light from the fog lamp and the fact that it doesn’t strobe or flash as emergency vehicle lights do may mean that these limitations in the current lighting standards could conceivably be revised to allow such technologies. Features such as dynamic light spot are currently available on vehicles in Europe. For now, we will continue to evaluate current and new technologies in lighting, and headlamp performance on each vehicle we test. And we will monitor standards, advocating where appropriate to allow newer technologies that offer the potential to improve night driving safety. —Jennifer Stockburger M Full EXECUTIVE Package $4,800Executive Package - $5,300Automatic(Soft Close) door closing: side doors; Rear electric blind; Head-up display; Steering wheel; Driver and front passenger seat front seat active/massage; Auto High Beam Headlights: ; Headlight control; Audio system satellite radio; Includes: [6NR] BMW Apps Adaptive Lane Following, Anti Dazzle LED LIGHTS($1,900)Design in a new light: the BMW 6 Series Coupé is the first BMW automobile to use Adaptive LED Headlights. They establish a new level of fatigue-free driving at night and hence ensure even more comfort and safety. More Dipped and high beam are implemented entirely using LED in both light rings. Yet the appearance of the Adaptive LED Headlights is interpreted in typical BMW style: enclosed by two 3-dimensional light rings on each side of the vehicle, the LED modules shine with their powerfully expressive styling and a night design without the appearance of discrete dots. All the lighting features available from BMW are integrated, including cornering lights, Adaptive Headlights and High Beam Assistant. Even functions such as accent lights, direction indicator lamps and cornering lights have been implemented with LED technology. Because its temperature is very similar to that of daylight, LED light has a very bright beam, enabling traffic signs, for example, to be seen more clearly. Cornering lights turn on automatically when bends are taken slowly. All bends taken faster than approx. 60 km/h are the responsibility of Adaptive Headlights: they adapt smoothly to steering wheel movements and the speed, and light up the road ahead perfectly. And it is not only this new previously unfamiliar level of visibility that distinguishes the Adaptive LED Headlights – they look good as well. Their new design with horizontally sectioned light rings and black accented trims underlines the powerful style of the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé **($950)**Cold Weather Package - $ 950.......Heated Rear seats: High pressure headlight cleaners; Steering wheel; Includes: [494] Heated Front Seats **($3,900)**Driver Assistance Package - $3,900............Active Blind Spot Detection overtaking sensor; Collision warning system features: Blind junction view; Top View side 5 camera parking distance sensors; 360 degree parking camera,Heads Up Display, 03 / 04BMW Head-Up Display. Nor has it been about quality. I have just never connected with the styling, finding their appearance dull and uninspiring. And I'm not a fan of bland. I do not own a beige pair of anything. But there is one BMW that has remained an exception to my grievance. The BMW M6. (Full Disclosure: BMW wanted me to drive the new M6 so bad they flew me out to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and put me up in a swanky hotel in downtown Monterey. For dinner they took us to a glass room that looked like something out of Jurassic Park. There, we spent the whole evening deliberating the various intrinsically subtle American dialects. Who knew New York had so many!) Back in 1983, BMW took the M88/3 modified M1 engine and dropped it onto the E24 6-Series chassis, creating the M635CSI, or M6 for short. Fewer than 2,000 E24 M6s were sold in North America between 1983 and 1989, making them as rare as they are beautiful. Advertisement The 2013 BMW M6 Coupe is just as striking as the E24 M6. The original M6 earned the nickname "The Shark," due to its toothy front fascia, and the Jaws-like appeal can still be found in today's F12 M6. To me, the 6-Series just oozes sex appeal — far more so than any other BMW — and with the M6, it's like adding stockings and high-heels to that little red dress. It's just better in every way. The problem is that this segment has become incredibly cutthroat, with options outside the typical GT sports luxury-type segment. Of course, you have Mercedes with their SL63 AMG and Jaaaaaag with the XKR and XKR-S. But cars like the Audi R8 Spyder come into the fold along with the Nissan GT-R and Aston Martin DBS Volante. Simply put, when you step beyond $100,000 the options of insane sports cars become bountiful. And so, standing out in this high-end, high-priced world is tougher than enduring a picnic with Justin Bieber. The E24 M6 (even despite its stupidly large bumpers) has always stood out to me. And the latest rendition of this notorious machine remains as brilliant now as it was in its original form. EXTERIOR 10/10 In general, I find BMW's styling safe and expected. A lack of imagination seems to be present. But with the M6, the designers appear to have been granted a longer leash. The lines are sleeker and more aerodynamic than the previous model. It presents itself in a more romantic fashion, yet still maintains the aggressive nature of a BMW. It blends elegance and performance in a way other BMW models don't. Quiet details like the downforce-producing lips on the front chin, and its slick back roofline, all add to a more pleasing facadeEarlier in the day I had been driving the M5, and not one person on the street batted and eyelid when I roared past. But to the M6 — with its contoured carbon fiber roof, M-specific flared fenders, fender vents and enlarged front intakes and a tweaked version of BMW's signature kidney grille — the reaction was very different. A group of middle-aged blokes, drinking their mid morning Dew, could barely remove their jaws from the floor as I rolled on by. And that is exactly the reaction you need if you are going to compete with the heavyweights in the $100k and up division. With the stunningly modernistic looking new I-Series on the way, perhaps we are ready to see this bolder approach in design trickle down to some of BMW's other models too, over the next few years. We can but hope. INTERIOR (0910) With clean sophistication meeting sporty aggression, the interior feels purposeful and blends both luxury and performance in a typically M fashion. The new M6 wheel is a nice step up and far more appealing than the latest M5 wheel. It has brushed aluminum edging leading down to a V on the vertical spoke. A detail as simple as this makes the whole cabin feel more expensive and in line with what you'd expect when paying the premium for an M model. Seat bolstering is secure and tight, and the desired driving position is easily discovered. Soft, supple leather covered the doors and console, and carbon fiber trimming fuses it all together — reminding you that despite the cabin's luxurious feel, this ambidextrous car is built with performance and speed as its main party piece. Of course, as with all M's, the most exciting part of the cabin is the inconspicuous little M1 and M2 buttons located on the steering wheel. But more on those little gems in a minute… The M6 shares a drivetrain — the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, producing 560-horsepower and 500-lb ft of torque — with the M5. If you have read my review of the M5, you will know that I was almost paralytically mesmerized by the insane power deriving from this stunning engine. Well, the M6 is about 350 pounds lighter than the M5/M6 convertible and about a 2-4/tenth of second faster to 0-60, at 3.7 seconds. With clean sophistication meeting sporty aggression, the interior feels purposeful and blends both luxury and performance in a typically M fashion. The new M6 wheel is a nice step up and far more appealing than the latest M5 wheel. It has brushed aluminum edging leading down to a V on the vertical spoke. Of course, as with all M's, the most exciting part of the cabin is the inconspicuous little M1 and M2 buttons located on the steering wheel. But more on those little gems in a minute… ACCELERATION (10/10) Jason Bourne. Under his white-collar appearance and cool demeanor is a wild animal that — So with that, it is fair to say it was even crazier, right? Actually, it felt pretty similar. Just a little less mad. It's like being eaten alive by a wild tiger versus a domesticated tiger. Both will tear you apart in a mere instance, but the domesticated tiger might do so with a little more care and precision. After all, you did provide it with meaty meals every day. It would still eat you, just maybe in a more dignified fashion. Pressing the programmable M2 button on the wheel — in its factory setting — turns all settings to the most aggressive of forms. It still provides a thrill capable of turning even Steve-O's boxers brown, but perhaps slightly softer suspension dampens the experience mildly compared to the barmy M5. It's incredibly fast, but in a more grown up kind of way. BRAKING (10/10) Fortunately, the M6 stops a hell of a lot better than the M5. Six-piston brakes with vented 16.1" fronts and 15.6" rear rotors stop admirably. It isn't so much the stopping ability that was all wrong with M5; it was its spongy pedal. The M6 has a far firmer feel and the pads respond much more aggressively. On track the performance is just about perfect, although they do feel a bit grabby when it comes to general road driving. Optional carbon ceramic stops will become available and it will be interesting to see how this affects the viscous nature when braking on the street. Perhaps a better compromise is needed to improve grabbiness on the road, and still maintain the immaculate feel when on the racetrack. RIDE (9/10) Where the M6 scores again over the M5 is with the ride. It is a touch more supple and that becomes welcomed when pottering along. The car has an innate ability to cruise on the highway as well as it drives at speed on the racetrack. Three options are available when adjusting the suspension settings (Comfort, Sport and Sport+). I found Sport effectively useless, as I either wanted maximum compliance when driving around town, or the highest level of sportiness when moving in a more aggressive manner. It feels effortless to drive on track. You don't feel you need to hustle it, as it responds so consistently and with fluidity. It doesn't make your hair stand on end quite as much as the M5, but from the roughly 20 journalists present on our test day, the M6's got far more use that the M5's – perhaps proving its more user-friendly performance. GEARBOX (10/10) If you want to know what a seamlessly beautiful dual-clutch transmission feels like, drive the M6. The 7-speed M-DCT gearbox is lightning fast, and yet each shift isn't quite as neck snapping as some other DC systems. There is no manual offered in the M6, but before you leap into the comment section and start threatening to murder whoever is responsible for this decision, you honestly don't need one. The M5 has the manual and is the ideal car to boast such a gearbox. The M6 is more mature and a more developed transmission seems to fit the bill. Honestly, you will not care less, it's that good. Bang and OlefsunAUDIO (10/10) The exhaust note from the M6 is pristine, clean but with a touch of gruffness mixed in for good measure. It's unobtrusive when cruising, but when you decide it's time to go, it ignites in a fury of violence that still reverberates in a sophisticated manner. But believe me, standing on pit lane at Laguna Seca listening to the twin-turbo whistle by, with the unified pop of each gear shift, it sounds like a fully fledged GT racecar –- only slightly quieter. The standard stereo is good, but the optional Bang & Olufson 16-speaker system is brilliant –- Possibly the very best on the market today. .Audio rating based on B & O stereo TOYS (9/10) The new M6 comes with iDrive 4.2. It is easy to navigate and the 3D graphics it incorporates are visually pleasing. The rear-view camera uses a bird's eye view, rather than the typical rear-only shot. It works great and makes backing up and parallel parking effortless. USB, Sirius XM and all the usual features you'd expect, are there. There is nothing earth shattering, equipment-wise, but you don't feel like you are missing anything. VALUE (8/10) Yes, I know. 9/10, and for a car that costs $110,995 (including destination and gas guzzler tax), you might think that is rather generous. But look at the competition. The Jaguar XKR-S starts at $132,000 and that is far more comparable to the M6 in terms of performance than the XKR. But even the less powerful, slower Jag still fetches $97,500. The SL63 AMG starts at $145,800 and if you want to start talking Aston Martins, then you go up a chunk more. Truth be told, I think the M6 is a hell of a car for the money. And it is the only BMW today that I truly love. The new M5 (which is, by all means, an amazing car) was thoroughly overshadowed by the M6. And that says a lot. --------------------------------------2013 BMW M6 Coupe Details 4.4-liter, TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine Rear-wheel drive See all standard features . BASE MSRP $111,400 . Eventually, thanks to GM's continuous improvement and consumer's continuous support, the marque became one of the strongest brands in automotive history. And at one point, with a full list of body styles, options, trim grades, color combinations, and mild to outrageous engines, the challenge became picking a platform which optimized variety and livability. Whoever checked the options sheet for this investment grade 1966 Super Sport probably came as close as you can get to having it all. Its original big block 396 V8 is a go-to heavyweight for both stoplight brawlers and drag strip warriors. Its correct Muncie 4-speed transmission is as spirited as it is reliable. And its super slick Marina Blue on black color combination literally defines the word classic. If you're in the market for a top notch example of one of the best Chevrolets ever produced, this national award winner is just the car you've been looking for! As Chevelle enthusiasts, we all know it can be very hard to prove the authenticity of Chevrolet's most famous muscle car. Fortunately the record keepers won a small victory in 1966 and every one of Chevrolet's coveted SS396 cars received a specially sequenced vehicle identification number. Here's a breakdown of this real deal Super Sport's factory VIN plate:1: Chevrolet38: SS396, 8-cylinder17: 2-door sport coupe6: 1966 model yearZ: Manufactured on GM's Fremont, California assembly line104519: Production sequence number Born at GM's storied, and still somewhat operational, Fremont Assembly, this awesome '66 Chevelle hardtop is the recent beneficiary of a nut and bolt rotisserie restoration that massaged every square inch of its sculpted metal into concours show condition. The car's frame-off transformation began when long-time Chevelle buff Jim Germann completely acid dipped its solid body in preparation for some minor rust repair. Once that body re-emerged and air cured, Jim bolted up a new hood, welded in a new trunk pan and blended a few small patches below its rear window and at the bottom of its right quarter panel. Eventually, with the car patched, prepped and ready to go, the world class technicians at Wooding's Auto Body in Roanoke, Virginia seamed a thick coat of primer with POR 15 rust inhibitor and sprayed a spectacular coat of correct GM code F Marina Blue paint under a glossy clearcoat shell. And today, this top notch Chevelle is as a spectacular muscle car which combines the best aspects of big block Chevrolet performance with the gratuitous fun and old school style that only a classic can provide! When it comes to classic cars a lot of people simply don't understand the true meaning of the word "concours". Make no mistake, in this context the word does indeed still refer to the assembly of a bunch of different elements. However, that traditional meaning is augmented by the added significance of both "original" and "perfect"; as in, getting the car as close to original and perfect as humanly possible. That means the significance of a showpiece like this Chevelle, which has had all its original trim fully restored or replaced with true NOS pieces, cannot be taken lightly. At the front of this bright blue trophy winner you'll find a black, body-width grille which hangs a fresh and prominent "SS396" emblem between small AACA plaques, four halogen headlights and an original, re-chromed bumper. At the top of the car, a pristine Super Sport hood props a chrome center spear and chrome SS396 louvers in front of all new glass that's framed by dent-free stainless trim, cleared by familiar stainless wipers and capped by fresh stainless drip rails. At the sides of the car ribbed rocker guards, fade-free fender trim and obligatory chrome door handles combine with detailed cross-flag emblems, a correct chrome mirror and monochromatic "Super Sport" scripts to detail a tasteful, conservative profile. And at the back of the car, a traditional black valence centers a wide-set "CHEVELLE" script between a second "SS396" emblem, crystal clear tail lights and a second re-chromed bumper. If you wanted a top of the line Chevelle in 1966 you had one option: 396 cubic inches of big block Detroit iron! Rolling out of the factory with stout 10.25 to 1 compression, an impressive 325 horsepower and a massive 410 lb./ft. of torque, this Super Sport's original L35 V8 wears a correct "EH" suffix stamp and a matching 104519 partial VIN in front of a correct 3855961 casting number. At the top of that big engine, oxygen is forced into a fully detailed single snorkel air cleaner which rides on an old school 4-barrel carburetor and a cast iron intake manifold. At the sides of that intake spotless chrome valve covers reflect fresh Packard Radio TVRS wires above correct heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of those valve covers, a reproduction points distributor rides between a rebuilt wiper motor, an NOS GM coil and a rebuilt and re-plated power brake booster. At the opposite end of the engine bay a re-cored radiator sends coolant around a shrouded, 4-blade fan via reproduction GM hoses and a full set of tower clamps. And at the side of that radiator, spark is supplied by a reproduction Delco battery which is spliced into to all new wiring and all new harnesses. Naturally the car's satin black engine bay, which consists of powder coated NOS fenders and a powder coated NOS core support, is 100% correct and looks great. Its Chevy Orange block, which has been bored .030 over and fitted with stock valve seats, still features original California smog equipment that adds both value and collectability. And everything from the car's rebuilt, original horns to its powder coated brackets and powder coated pulleys displays the kind of excellent attention to detail that ensures both big points and great performance. Underneath this rock solid A-Body 'better-than-new' is the prevalent theme with freshly over-restored floors, which are covered in a super slick coat of gloss black paint, hanging over a spotless and highly detailed chassis. Behind the car's stout big block a correct Muncie M20 4-speed transmission sends power from an 11 inch clutch and a polished 11 inch bellhousing to a rebuilt 12 bolt Posi-traction rear end that's equipped with easy driving 3.31 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a completely restored factory suspension that's been thoroughly sandblasted and layered in a durable coat of epoxy paint. And correct power steering combines with correct, and fully rebuilt, power drum brakes to provide greatly improved turns and modern car stops. At the center of the floors, the big engine's restored manifolds dump spent gases into an aluminized true dual exhaust system that's complete with factory replacement turbo mufflers. At the corners of the floors, rare 14 inch steel wheels spin 7.75-14 BF Goodrich Silvertown redlines around pristine dog dish hubcaps. And naturally the bottom of this first class Chevelle is as pristine as it is spotless, with everything from the car's new stainless fuel tank to its correct spiral shocks completely detailed for both show and go! Pop this Super Sport's sculpted doors open and you'll find a correct GM code 763 black imitation leather interior which is, for the most part, exactly how it rolled out of the factory. The car's correct front bucket and rear bench seats, which were rebuilt with fresh foam, wrapped in new seat covers and bolted to freshly powder coated brackets, show virtually no wear at all. In front of those seats a warp-free dash hangs rebuilt gauges and a correct Delco AM/FM radio above a rebuilt tachometer and a slick pair of NOS kick panels. Below that dash a great looking console frames a chrome floor shifter and a correct clock in pristine stainless trim. And below that console, like-new carpet perfectly complements a complete set of NOS Fisher lap belts. In front of the driver, an original GM steering wheel and an NOS rearview mirror provide an authentic motoring experience. At the sides of the cockpit, fade-free black door panels center pristine stainless trim and new chrome handles around straight and pliable armrests. And behind the passengers, an optional rear speaker tops a fully restored trunk that includes a correct mat, a full-size spare tire and correct decklid decals. Naturally after Jim Germann finished building it, and Wooding's Auto Body finished slicking it up, this pristine Chevrolet muscle car hit the show circuit and scored many national awards. The car's long list of prestigious accolades includes:AACA Senior Grand National winner at the 2008 Grand National Meet in Melbourne, FloridaAACA Preservation winner at the 2008 Grand National Meet in Melbourne, FloridaAACA Preservation winner at the 2008 Southeastern Division Nationals in Charlotte, North CarolinaAACA Senior Grand National winner at the 2007 Grand National Meet in Kalamazoo, MichiganAACA Preservation winner at the 2006 Southeastern Division Nationals in Asheville, North CarolinaAACA Preservation winner at the 2006 Eastern Division Nationals in Hershey, PennsylvaniaAACA Preservation winner at the 2005 Eastern Division Nationals in Greensburg, PennsylvaniaAACA Preservation winner at the 2005 Southeastern Division Nationals in Jeffersonville, IndianaAACA Preservation winner at the 2005 Southeastern Division Nationals in Roanoke, VirginiaAACA Preservation winner at the 2005 Central Division Nationals in Warren, OhioAACA Preservation winner at the 2004 Southeastern Division Nationals in Asheboro, North CarolinaAACA Preservation winner at the 2004 Grand National Meet in Buffalo, New YorkAACA First Senior winner at the 2003 Eastern Division Nationals in Carlisle, PennsylvaniaAACA First Junior winner at the 2003 Southeastern Division Nationals in Greenville, South Carolina2007 Goodguys Muscle Car of the Year Finalist The sale of this awesome Chevelle includes a reproduction owner's manual, copies of the car's two previous titles and a 2007 Goodguys Gazette in which it's showcased as a Muscle Car of The Year finalist. Chevrolet's 2014 showroom will be populated by a world class sports car, an egocentric muscle car and a top dog Super Sport. Likewise, Chevrolet's 1966 showroom was populated with a world class sports car, an egocentric pony car and a top dog Chevelle Super Sport. Steadfast, distinguished and great to look at, this real-deal SS396 carries the trademark combination of classic looks and rugged versatility that's built the bowtie brigade into one of the largest brands in the world. The car's no-nonsense nature and big performance was a huge hit with 60s gearheads; and given the recent shift to more traditional hot rodding, a continued rise in popularity is only natural. If you're looking to ride in style, you simply can't go wrong with GM's second generation A-Body. And when you factor in this Chevelle's date-correct big block, fresh restoration and killer color combination, you realize what an incredible car it truly is! As Chevrolet enthusiasts, we all know it can be very hard to prove GM provenance. Fortunately, the folks at USA-1 had the foresight to equip 1966 Chevelles with Super Sport check digits. Here's a detailed look at the car's SS-specific VIN. VIN: 138176Z1289571 Chevrolet38 SS39617 2-door sport coupe6 1966 model yearZ Assembled in Fremont, California128957 Sequential production number The beneficiary of a professional, body-off restoration, this super cool Super Sport is a perfect blend of expert craftsmanship and fine attention to detail. With its solid, rust-free body present and accounted for, the car was carefully massaged into better-than-new condition. Once that highly detailed metal work transitioned from the garage bay to the paint booth, classic 60s panels were covered in stunning Madeira Maroon enamel. When that pigment dried, it was sealed in clear and buffed to a brilliant shine. And today, officially unleashed as the epitome of old school American style, this Chevy is one seriously sweet head turner that's ready to drop jaws and win trophies! Thanks to its unique trim levels and classy appearance, the Chevelle mid-size did an excellent job slotting between Chevrolet's working class Nova and upper class Impala. At the front of this coupe, a correct black grille centers a familiar "SS396" emblem between a finned Super Sport hood, bright halogen headlights and fresh chrome bumper that's complete with small, amber parking lamps. At the sides of those lamps, cross-flag fender emblems and "Super Sport" quarter scripts hint at a sporty personality, while traditional door handles and straight wheel trim perfectly complement textured rocker guards. Opposite those rockers, like-new glass is traced in bright stainless, cleared by satin wipers and reflected in a chrome bowtie mirror. And behind that mirror, "C H E V E L L E SS396" scripts ride between curved tail lights, a second chrome bumper and large stainless exhaust tips. If you wanted a top-of-the-line Chevelle in 1966, you had one option: 396 cubic inches of big block Detroit iron! Rolling out of the restoration shop with a fresh .060 overbore, 325 horsepower and a massive 410 lb./ft. of torque, this Super Sport's date-correct L35 is clean, mean and ready to roar! At the top of the big engine, oxygen is forced through a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner into a rebuilt, 1969 carburetor and date-correct intake manifold. At the sides of that intake, spotless chrome valve covers reflect fresh AC Delco Premium wires above date-correct heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of those valve covers, a date-correct distributor rides between a new coil, a rebuilt wiper motor and a fresh brake booster. And, opposite that distributor, a heavy duty radiator sends coolant around a shrouded fan via pliable GM hoses and familiar tower clamps. Naturally, the car's glossy engine bay, which consists of black fenders and a Madeira Maroon firewall, is 100% detailed and looks great. Its Chevy Orange block features the usual array of stainless lines and chrome ancillary pieces. And everything from the car's optional power steering to its rebuilt air conditioning system displays the kind of excellent attention to detail that ensures both big points and great performance. Logging mere test miles since its 2013 rebirth, this 'better-than-new' Chevy marries Madeira Maroon floors to a super clean chassis. The massaged big block twists power to a rebuilt 12-bolt rear end via an aluminum Powerglide transmission. That killer drivetrain is held off the ground by a glossy black suspension that's been completely restored to factory specifications. Optional power steering combines with rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brakes to provide greatly improved turns and modern car stops. At the center of the floors, the big engine's restored manifolds dump spent gases into an aluminized, true-dual exhaust system that's complete with welded, dual-chamber mufflers. At the corners of the floors, Madeira Maroon wheels spin 225/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials around classy Chevrolet hub caps. And naturally, the bottom of this first class Chevelle is as pristine as it is spotless; with everything from the car's fresh stainless fuel tank to its Chevy Orange oil pan completely detailed for both show and go! Open the freshly finished doors and you'll find factory grade vinyl that's simple yet sporty. Front and center, a duo of firm bench seats feature lightly pleated covers and correct Fisher lap belts. In front of those seats, a slick, maroon dash hangs brand new gauges and a direct-fit radio between a warp-free pad and large Pioneer kick speakers. On the floors, stain-free carpet anchors thick rubber floor mats between stainless Fisher sills. Opposite that carpet, a tight headliner founds a fully functional dome lamp behind new visors and a bright chrome mirror. At the sides of the car, new door panels center new chrome handles and modernist stainless trim below body-matched frames. In front of the driver, a color-keyed steering wheel spins a subtle horn ring around a polished and "CHEVELLE" branded hub. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk features a new mat, new decals, a correct jack and a full-size spare tire. The sale of this sinister coupe includes a stack of restoration receipts. Fully restored and professionally sorted, this stunning Chevelle is a top notch classic that's ready for years of shows and miles of smiles. It's one of the last great no-nonsense, no-frills designs to come out of Detroit; and it's the kind of car your family can enjoy for generations. Whether your interest lies in killer cruisers, classic good looks or vintage Mo-town style, this Chevy has it all! [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport National Award Winning Chevelle SS 396 V8 M20 4 Speed Year: 1966 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 60478 Transmission type: 4 Speed Manual Engine: 396 V8 Interior color: Black Vehicle info Like the Bel Air that came before it, the Chevelle was one of those cars Chevrolet aced right out of the gate.
