I am the 2nd owner of this black & gold 1980 Datsun 280ZX. It is number 2473 of 3000 of the 10th anniversary edition cars. I have owned the vehicle 9-1/2 years. I purchased it in June of 2007 in Farmington, Michigan from the original owner. It was stored in a warehouse there with other classic cars. It does not get used very much as you can tell by the low miles, 9421 miles. It has won it's class 3 times at the Japanese Classic Car Show (2007, 2008 & 2016) in California. It won 1st place in the Z division in 2015 at the Huntington Beach Concours Car Show. The car is always garaged or stored in a car trailer. All original paint. I have the original pinstriped Goodyear Wingfoot tires I use for car shows. There is plenty of tread on these tires and they are in great condition for 36 year old tires. Because of their age, I have been told it's not recommended to use them for regular driving. The wheels have the correct 10th anniversary wheel caps with chrome & the burnt orange color around the Z emblem on the caps. All other 1980 ZX's had standard chrome & black caps that still are available today. I have an extra set of tires (BF Goodrich Radial TA's) and 280ZX wheels for normal driving use. Since the car is originally from Michigan, it was undercoated by the dealership when purchased new. I had one of these anniversary cars when I was about 19 years old but couldn't afford to keep it. This one brought back great memories for me and I have enjoyed many car shows with it but I'm moving on to different things these days. This 1974 Datsun 260Z certainly qualifies. With a smooth-running inline-six and a cosmetic freshening, it's a handsome car that delivers a vintage driving experience that's easy to use in today's traffic. If you're looking for a fun, sporty, unusual driver that will always get people talking, it's hard to do better than this. The paint was refinished a few years ago in the original bright color, and compared to all the silver and black Z cars you see out there, it's a classic combination that looks remarkably good on the curvaceous sheetmetal. It's very clean and there are no obvious signs of rust or previous damage, making this the ideal car for a first-time buyer who isn't looking for a project. The purity of the original Z-car's shape is undeniably attractive, and the classic long nose profile is more Jaguar E-Type than Datsun functional, and the stretched wheelbase to add a back seat doesn't hurt the look one bit. Fit and finish are quite good, and the reputation that Japanese cars earned was based largely on cars like this that were worlds better than their domestic competition and it's noticeable today. The rubber bumpers remain in good condition with no cracking or fading and there's still enough chrome on it to look dressed up but not '70s goofy. The black vinyl interior is 100% original and remains in decent condition with plenty of life left in it. The seats show only moderate wear, with a few splits in the driver's seat, but the foam underneath remains firm and comfortable. The passenger's seat and rear seat are in excellent condition, as you'd expect, and the carpets have been protected by heavy-duty rubber mats, so they're tidy, too. All the gauges are fully functional, including the auxiliary gauges on the top center of the dash, which are a styling cue that still in use on Z-cars today. An automatic transmission, along with the larger engine and back seat, were concessions to American tastes, but it also makes the car comfortable and a first-class long-distance cruiser. For the most part, this car doesn't deviate much from the original spec, and even the original radio is still in the dash. Under the hatch, you get a good-sized trunk with nice carpets that haven't been backed by the sun. Datsun knew that the 260Z needed to be competitive, so the 2.6 liter inline-six is a gutsy powerplant that revs smoothly and delivers impressive torque. Thanks to nicely tuned twin side-draft carburetors, it starts and idles beautifully, and pulls through the gears with a musical tenor that you'll enjoy every time you fire it up. The engine bay is tidy and clean, showing signs of conscientious maintenance throughout its life and plenty of recent parts. The big orange air cleaner gives it a purposeful look and there aren't many aftermarket upgrades, suggesting that this car has always led an easy life. The 3-speed automatic transmission slips through the gears almost telepathically, and suspension is supple yet athletic, showcasing the car's grand touring mission. It rolls on a handsome set of factory alloys wearing 205/75/14 blackwall radials that fill the fenders just right. The same things that made the original Z-car popular when it was new makes it a fabulous collector piece today: great performance, fun handling, and reliable mechanicals. Serious buyer only! I am selling my 1979 Datsun 280ZX with only 91,000 miles at the time of this posting. Mechanically this car is in excellent condition. Engine runs and idles great and the automatic transmission shifts great. Fun car to drive!!! I am an older gentleman and bought it from an older gentleman who was a collector of autos and motorcycles. · The car has a brand new Rhode Island inspection sticker in May 2015. · Oil and filter has been changed along with a new air cleaner. · New battery and lead cables installed. New rear hatch struts installed. · I had my mechanic go through this car completely in May. · Four brand new raised white letter tires installed, high speed balanced and front end alignment done. New steering pitman arm also installed. Have all the paperwork to prove this!!! The gentleman I bought the car off told me that the car has been repainted by the former woman owner to the white color you see (from originally a brown color that she did not like). The paint was done correctly as the jams were painted also. There is light surface rust in some areas, looks like some older filler starting to raise in some areas and some minor dings and a slight indent and crack in the paint on the front quarter panel easily repairable etc, but overall a solid car and the paint still maintains its shine.Lifting up the hatchback carpet the car underneath is solid and looks like new!!!Drive it as is or if you want to enter it in car shows I would recommend having the light bodywork done and repainted. Please remember this is a 36 year old car with an older paint job. Recently I took it to a Nissan/Datsun event and the auto repair guys could not believe the condition of the car for how old it is. The interior of the car is in good condition as you can see from the pictures. Someone at some point installed a new carpet in the car and the seats are in good condition. The dash has two cracks (as usual for an older car) but they are not too bad. Headliner looks like it was replaced and is in excellent condition. The door panels look in good condition also. There are no warning lights on. From what I can tell all gauges work as they should except for the trip odometer and the clock which is usual for these cars. The power windows work, locks, wipers, lights, blinkers etc. work with the exception of the light in the head liner (might just be a bulb). Even the airline(map) light works. The passenger power mirror does not work but the driver’s power mirror does. The windshield fluid sprayer does not work (common) but there is power to this area because I can hear it when you press the control. The heat works, the a/c is not blowing cold and I believe needs a recharge. The radio and antenna has power but I can only get an AM signal and the antenna mast is not going up. Honestly I would replace the radio and antenna. To the winning bidder I will include a newer modern radio if you want that the previous owner had in the car. For authenticity reasons I had the original radio re-installed (unfortunately its missing a knob). Overall for the year, in my opinion the car is in good condition. Even my mechanic was surprised at the condition of the car!!! Please remember, the car is 36 years old. The first on is a 1981 (silver) with 27685 miles. While listed as rebuilt it is in the best shape to restore. It has been stored inside and has minimal rust. The other two, 1981 (white) with 16100 miles and 1982 (red) with 204000 miles with clear titles were stored outside and are largely for parts. The 1981s engines were last started five years ago. You have all the parts to do a complete 1981 restore. When you are done with the restore you can still recover $500 or more from each of the parts car, turbo engines and CPU go for $500. 1983 Datsun 280ZX Coupe, Non-Turbo. Last year of the 280zx! I would say it's 97% originally restored. It has a few upgrades, but not many. It does, however, have the rare "Leather & Digital Pkg" option. Leather seats were beyond repair, but I found a super nice set of cloth seats from another 83. Digital gauges work exceptionally well! It has 2.8Liter Inline 6 N/A, 5-speed, PW, PDL, PM (heated), Cruise Control, PS, PB, T-Tops and the original bags they go in! It even has the original spare tire, jack and other parts that have been unopened. I've been an enthusiast of the Datsun Z cars since the 80's! I bought the car in April 2014, put less than 300 miles on it and drive it a few times a month. I have most of the receipts for the parts I've replaced, but I do have all pics on a CD. Uses no oil, doesn't leak or smoke at all! It looks 100% better than it did the day I bought it! I have a clear, clean title for it and there is absolutely NO RUST in the car! Like I mentioned above, I have the majority of the receipts, but have misplaced some of them... You can look at the pics from then to now and tell what's been changed replaced. I do, however, have a ton of progress pictures, that I will put on a CD, for the new owner. I have various manuals that go with the car. As well as, the owners manual and dealer brochures. I know the Air Conditioning doesn't work, (as the compressor is locked up and one of the hoses has been removed). The front grille is there, but there's a small part broken, but it's hard to notice. The factory digital clock in the dash doesn't work either. Before you stop reading and think that's too much, just think of everything I've done to it and all the documentation I have? I'm being as honest as I can about the car. Remember, I'm an enthusiast and hate to sell it, but we need the money more than the car at the moment... This is a sound, totally rust-free, fun little car to drive, now that I've replaced everything on it! I know this car from top to bottom, front to rear, inside to outside! I'm being as honest as I can about it, as I believe these are the only issues that are wrong with it? The interior is 100% in tact, no missing pieces!
