This is the original 1964 Dodge 330 Aluminum front end 426 hemi race car that was given new to the legendary DICK LANDY. Explaining the historical significance of this in an ebay auction will be nearly impossible but I'll give it a shot. Ask yourself these questions.......How many racing events have been won by the legendary 426 Hemi basic engine design since it's introduction in the spring of 1964?? Which engine did Richard Petty & many other drivers clean house in NASCAR with until it was outlawed because it gave Chrysler an unfair advantage?? Which musclecar engine is the most coveted by collectors?? What is the historical significance of the FIRST production hemicar to win a racing event?? On Thursday, May 21st 1964, V.I.N. 6142225635 was built & by the weekend of June 12th 1964, at Riverside International Raceway, the legendary DICK LANDY won the Hot-Rod Magazine Championship Drags to give the production 426 Hemi engine it's first sanctioned win! Now, let me take this a step farther into it's historical significance........Landy used this car first to experiment (successfully) with altering wheelbases. He installed a straight front axle, elongated the front & rear wheel openings, moved the rear end forward & moved the straight axle forward! This old Dodge has been called the 1st FUNNY CAR by many including the National Hemi Owners Assoc. in "HEMI NEWS" April, 1989. Because of Chrysler's confidence in LANDY, he was one of the lucky drag-racers to be given one of the 11 factory altered 65 dodges ($1,000,000 car now) in early January 1965 & this '64 sat until it was sold to Bob Runyan in Utah, it was sold again & sat until February 18, 1978 when it was purchased by it's current owner, restorer & faithful caretaker. MSD ignition under the Dash. Electric water pump with dual fans. Motor has a high capacity oil pan for racing. Car comes with a Spare 440 Wedge stock motor. Torqueflite 727 transmission, floor shifter with brake line lock and full transmission blanket running to 4.88 Chrysler 8 ¾ rear end. Car has a JAZ fuel cell at this time but stock gas tank come with the car. Car is set up with trunk mounted battery with remote disconnect. This car ran 11:45s at Bakersfield. This car used to run A/Gas a few years back with a different engine and transmission running 7.90's. Now has a fresh milder 426 Hemi .060 over. D-6 Aluminum heads, 70's Pro Stock roller cam, 671 Blower 18% overdriven, dual Dominators , and runs on gasoline. Backed by a brand new Hughes 727 Reverse Pattern trans with Brake and 4500 stall convertor. It has a small radiator and is currently setup for track use only. With a little work and a few modifications the car could be made street friendly again. Coilover Shocks and Wilwood Disc Brakes on all four corners. Rack and Pinion steering with tubular A arms. Ladder Bar rear suspension. Trunk is set up for an extra battery and additional fuel cell if you would like to go that route. Mezzier electric water pump with electric fans and coolers for radiator and transmission. Lexan Windows. Body and paint was finished far nicer than your average Drag Car. It is laser straight and fully sanded and buffed. The doors, bumpers, decklid, and front end are lightweight fiberglass. The door gaps arent perfect and the doors sag a bit when opened. It was purchased by another Detroit Mopar collector who restored it to what you see today. It has an original 31,000 miles on the clock and was restored to a super high concourse show quality.
