1958 Dodge Mayfair-Very Rare CHRISTINE’S HALF SISTER! 78,000 Verifiable Original Miles This car fires right up an is ready to drive anywhere! All owner history since day of purchase, includes original sales order and first service record. I imported this car from Canada myself. Current Oregon Title in my name. PLEASE NOTE THIS CAR COMES WITH THE BURGUNDY SEATS AS SHOWN, HOWEVER I AM INCLUDING BRAND NEW CORRECT SEAT COVERS CUSTOM MADE FOR THIS CAR. THEY ARE SHOWN ON THE CORRECT SEATS, BUT ONLY THE COVERS COME, NOT THE SEAT FRAMES AS I AM USING FOR ANOTHER CAR, WHICH IS WHY I REDUCED PRICE SO MUCH!! Is not a show car but ready to drive as is and work on as you go. Or just leave it and enjoy. Impossible to find a Forwardlook mopar from 1957-1959 that runs and drives as nice as this one at this price. This rare car is also referred to as a Plodge. Chrysler Corporation allowed Chrysler of Canada to produce a hybrid car under the Dodge badge. The bodies were Plymouth based but the front ends were Dodge. The other subtle differences are the badging and the Dodge insignia on the speedo rather than Plymouth. The Mayfair was the highest trim level offered in the “Plodge” lineup and is equivalent to the US Belvedere. Note the clock in the dash. Comes with the 313 V8 Polyspherical Engine (Canadian 318, all parts interchange), recently upgraded to a four barrel as the 313 only came with a 2bbl. Correctly done with remanufactured 1965 year AFB and an early 60’s air cleaner. New electronic distributor and 40K coil. This is the old school original look cap style. Oil change just done. Bullet proof Torqueflite 3 Speed Automatic Trans Equipped with power brakes and steering. Runs and Drives Perfect-gets thumbs up wherever I go. EXTRAS INCLUDED WITH THE CAR: Original 2 bbl intake, carb and air cleaner Oil Filter Adapter so you can use spin on PH-8 Fram Oil Filter Brand new factory seat covers to fit the correct style seats (note, the blue seats to NOT come with the car, just the covers do. If interested I have a full set of side trim off of a Savoy, which is the same as a Dodge Regent. THE GREAT FEATURES OF THIS CAR: Rare-I know, everyone says their car is rare and then you see a dozen more for sale. I have been into late 50’s Mopars since the early 70’s and it has been decades since I have seen a 58 Mayfair 2 Door HT., and only then because I visited Canada often. Runs and Drives Perfect. In fact the best thing about the car is the solid running gear. Smooth, easy starting, great stopping and so on. There were only a few thousand made, which makes it more rare than the US Fury, they were only in Canada and due to rust and lack of interest for years in these cars they just were not kept around. Try and find another one. You can see a few pics out there, that is all (there is a 4 Door available, but just one of those.) Low original miles. I can provide all of the history including contact info to second owner who purchased it from original owner. The original owner passed on after selling it to them. New seat covers, perfect door panels-all factory correct. All gauges work, heater, wipers etc all work. Just installed freshly cleaned fuel tank. Glass is all good. WHAT IT NEEDS: This car is 60 years old needs the body restored. The rust is not bad for a 1958 Mopar that has never been restored, but it will need floors and trunks done eventually. Trunk is thin, but not rusted out. Floor has been poorly patched in areas, most of the weak areas are close to the rockers. The rockers were pretty well shot and some poor sheet metal work was done. The car came with new rockers for under the door, I had the drivers side replaced in the door area, rest needs done, the passenger side rocker is still in the trunk. Currently the passenger side rocker was done with thin metal, looks ok from a distance. Also needs some repair in front of passenger rear wheel well, around drives wheel well, etc. Car looks like it has dual exhaust, drivers side is just for looks and is not connected to anything. Headliner missing and will need to be redone. There are factory replacements out available online. Also needs a couple of emblems and trunk letters. Drive it as it is. It is presentable and drives nice. You can enjoy the car for a few more years while you save funds to properly restore. Is decent enough to take to a local cruise in. Restore to original. Body work, paint, some chrome work and you will have a beautiful car that is rare and admired. Since the car is a 1958 Plymouth from the firewall back you could install a 1958 front clip and convert to a Christine. Christine cars RARELY come up for sale anymore as everyone hangs onto them. You can make your own with this and you will definitely get your investment back. Only you will know it was a Dodge. I am willing to answer more questions if you email me. I am a long time Mopar lover and am known as a straight shooter by those of us in the Mopar community. I do not “leave out” or “forget” to tell you anything, unless it is by accident. I want you to know what you are buying so you are happy with the car. This in itself is rare, I know as I have been on the wrong end of peoples lack of truthfulness. WHY AM I SELLING THIS CAR IF I LOVE THE MOPARS SO MUCH? I always think this is a rather intrusive question and I never ask because sometimes it is due to tragedy or illness and I leave it up to them to offer up their motivation. To save you the embarrassment of asking here you go- I I purchased this car while in the middle of a restoration of a 1958 Plymouth 2HT. It is a factory Toreador Red on White (same color scheme as Christine). It will be a correct Christine clone with some modifications that make sense. I thought I would have the time, money and energy to finish up the Plymouth and then do the Mayfair. I have been working on the Mayfair for a couple of months.(It was in pretty rough shape, interior shot, brakes not working, barely running etc.) I also travel extensively and have a second home I purchased from my father right before he passed away that I am restoring for a family vacation place. I realize now the Mayfair is just taking away valuable time from these other commitments. I would love to have started this one first, but life is about choices and this one should go. It is not about money and I am not desperate. It is more about room and my inability to just let the car sit -I have to work on if it is here. I am sure in a few years when I retire I will look back and wish I had kept this particular car as it is almost irreplaceable. 1974 PLYMOUTH CUDA - REAL BLACK ON BLACK CAR - FOR SALE 1974 PLYMOUTH CUDA - REAL BLACK ON BLACK CAR - FOR SALE! This auction is for a truly rare car, a REAL 1974 BS23 ‘Cuda, factory TX9 Black paint, with a Black interior, and a white stripe! Although it is a project car, it is very worthy of restoration, and will make someone a great winter project car. It originally came with the 318 2bbl 150hp engine, with a 904 automatic trans. The original powertrain is missing, and someone back when converted it to a 4-speed. As you can see from the pics, it has a manual trans floor hump, and a clutch pedal installed in it. I am unaware if these parts are identical to what the factory would have installed, if it had been an original 4-speed car. If you’re a MOPAR guy, we all know that the 1971s are the King ‘Cudas, then the 1970, due to the 426 Hemis, the 440 Six-Packs, etc. In 1972, 1973, and 1974, these were gone. However, 1974 was the last year of this great E-body style, and this year had the SMALLEST production figures of ANY of the years! For all 1974, there were only 11,734 Total Barracudas, with only 4,989 of these being BS23 ‘Cudas, leaving 6,745 that were the actual Barracuda. (For reference, consider that over 151,000 Camaros were built for 1974, over 362,000 Chevelles, and 386,000 of the UGLY 1974 Mustang IIs were made!) According to the best sources I can find on short notice, it appears that there were only 2,412 BS23G4B ‘Cudas, with the automatic transmission, and although I can’t narrow down exactly how many were Black on Black, there were numerous colors, so it is a VERY rare car, and how many are left? Also, the 72-3-4 ‘Cudas have been appreciating quite a bit over the last several years, as have other mid-late 70s models, so this car is a WORTHY resto project! If this car was a 1971 ‘Cuda, you couldn’t TOUCH it at 3 TIMES this price! I would LOVE to fix it up myself, but I just don’t have the time, too many other projects to deal with. What I would do with this car is make the “Ultimate Rat Rod”, at least for awhile, anyway. I would build a killer 440, get a 5-speed stick (with an original pistol-grip shifter, so it looks like a stock 4-speed), get all the suspension, steering, electrical, brakes, etc redone, stuff as fat rear tires as I could on some 8-1/2 inch offset Rallyes, get the 3.55 rear end all set up, but LEAVE THE BODY ALONE for now! Can you imagine the FUN when you pull up next to one of these new pretty Mustangs or Camaros or Corvettes in this car that looks all ratty on the outside, and then you proceed to BLOW THEIR DOORS OFF??? Besides, you wouldn’t be worried about getting door dings at car shows, or the local Wal-Mart! I’d have some fun for a long time, and THEN restore the body LATER!!! (I’ve had perfect show cars, and I’ve had imperfect drivers, and quite frankly, drivers are more fun!) Some of the ‘Cuda’s sheet metal will need rust repair or replacement, but most of it can be saved. The entire floorboard is in good shape, including under the back seat, there are only a few small holes in the driver front floorboard that will need welding. Some touch-up welding needs to be done in the front wheelwells where there was some previous work done, but they aren’t too bad. The trunk floor is going to need either complete replacement, or a lot of repair, along with the trunk extensions. I would replace both lower quarters, at the mid-body seam, if I was doing the resto. Then, there is a little hole on the lower rear corner of the passenger door (pic# 38 on my site, see below), and some rust repair on the lower front passenger fender. Of course, there is a lot of regular body work to be done, dents, old bondo removal etc, after 42 years, as you can see from the pics. There are many extra items that come with the car at the Buy-It-Now price, including: A complete 440 engine that is 1974 date-coded, that came out of a 1974 Dodge Motorhome, but without the carb/intake manifold that are shown in the pics in the picture link below. Pair of ‘Cuda doors that are in great shape. A 3.55 Sure-Grip rear end “pumpkin”. If you wish to purchase the car without these items, I’m open to it, make me a specific offer. Also please note that pic #24 is of someone else’s ’74 Cuda, that shows what this car looked like when new, that pic IS NOT of this car! One other note, I have a complete roof section that is also for sale separately (I included a pic of it in this auction), but I wouldn’t use this roof section for this car, get a $600 Roof Skin from AMD, and just section out the sunroof part, use the rest of the new metal for a few patches where needed. Save this complete ‘Cuda roof section for a 1970 or 1971 high-$ ‘Cuda, that had a vinyl top and is totally rusted beyond saving. MUCH better use of this roof! Or, just leave the pop-up sunroof in it, it was probably put in 35 years ago, very retro! In fact, the division managed to barely surpass the 1,920 cars required to meet NASCAR's renewed homologation rule. And while these slow sellers lingered on lots and didn't do much for the brand during their day, their outrageous nature virtually guaranteed that, in time, they would become exclusive classics serious collectors dream of owning. This highly authentic Superbird is a fully documented, 3-owner dreamboat that wraps rare Black, White and B5 Blue aesthetics around an original 440/A727 drivetrain. And if you're a serious MoPar enthusiast who's looking for a crown jewel classic to lead your collection, it's a chance to turn your reverie into reality! HISTORY Throughout the '60s, Chrysler and Ford were heavily vested in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales mentality. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. BODYWORK/TRIM Like many investment grade classics, this impressive Plymouth spent the majority of its 46 years in the hands of one very meticulous enthusiast. Traded in 1971 by its original owner, the car was nabbed by that enthusiast for a whopping $3,300 from Al Davenport Plymouth of Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2012, when that enthusiast decided to pass his beloved 'bird to a third owner, the car benefitted from a thorough, 1.5-year restoration that consisted of a little bodywork and quite a bit of detailing. During that refresh, Accomac, Virginia's Durbin's Auto Body stripped mostly original sheetmetal, welded up a fresh trunk pan, sprayed correct Blue Fire Metallic 2-stage and installed a fresh vinyl top. And today, this warrior rolls as one super slick, all-American muscle car that's so cool it'll make you feel guilty! ENGINE Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 2536430 casting number and matching partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared as Plymouth's 440 6 BBL, this Super Commando V8 was designed to offer an exceptional combination of speed and civility. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled, dual snorkel air cleaner to a big Carter carburetor, which is bolted to a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through reliable 7mm High Temperature plug wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to channel water past a correct, 7-blade fan. A correct MoPar red cap utilizes an old school Chrysler voltage regulator to supply the jolts. And, aesthetically, everything in the clean engine bay presents great; from the car's cool factory decals and B5 Blue fenders to its old school washer reservoir and requisite Road Runner horn. According to this Plymouth's current owner, neither the big 440 nor its A727 companion has ever been fully rebuilt. And after the car's restoration, the moody 6 BBL induction noted in accompanying build photos was happily exchanged for a correct 4-barrel set-up. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this specialized B-Body on a lift and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, remains very close to the way it left the Lynch Road assembly line. Factory undercoating protects solid floors that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando, an original A727 Torqueflite hangs a high performance "PK3410670" assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. That proven transmission sends power to a correct 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end that spins a correct Sure Grip differential around correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi Suspension utilizes heavy-duty torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi Suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of fresh KYB Gas-A-Just shocks and a stainless fuel tank that feeds stainless fuel lines. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases traverse polished stainless tubes on their way to an H-shaped crossover, polished Dynomax mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on stylish Rallye wheels, which twist F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around bright stainless trim rings and color-keyed center caps. INTERIOR Inside this famous Plymouth, a striking White & Black interior adds to the car's rare and exceptionally attractive aesthetics. But rare is the masterpiece that can so seamlessly blend two completely different vehicles as this extraordinary 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda drop-top. You see, that classic Mopar body is merely an attractive illusion as, underneath its surface, a 1995 Dodge Viper is coiled and ready to strike! Complete with a thundering 547 horsepower V10, a modern 6-speed transmission and a fully independent, track-ready suspension, this stunning Dodge, err, Plymouth is car number three of Time Machine's well-known Six Shooter Viper 'Cudas. If you're looking for a truly exceptional, truly mind-boggling muscle car, you've definitely come to the right place! Like most great cars, the idea for the Viper 'Cuda was born from a unique combination of stress and innovation. After losing his pristine Hemicuda in a divorce, the future owner of Time Machines decided to take a spin in one of his good friend's Dodge Vipers. While he was out enjoying Detroit's brawniest badass, he began thinking how nice it'd be if his remaining asset, a '71 Cuda project car, drove as well as a modern sports car. And the rest, as we say, is sweet, octane-fueled history! Starting with a clean, complete '71 'Cuda convertible, Time Machine's Hudson, Florida team gutted, stripped and removed their way through everything but this custom's front subframe, rear rockers and factory radiator cradle. After the conversion, which we'll talk more about in a few moments, every piece of the car's body was refinished to show condition using a combination of original and high quality replacement sheetmetal. And finally, once that metal was primed and ready for art, a glossy silver basecoat was topped with a matte horizontal treatment, and eventually detailed with trick Viper billboards. If you're going to build a car like this, there's no point in keeping it subtle; and this incredible topless wonder will attract a TON of attention anywhere you go! Thanks to its high dollar professional transformation, this Cuda's crisp shut lines and spectacular panel alignment present much better today than when it rolled off Chrysler's assembly line almost 42 years ago. At the front of the car a stainless-trimmed, 1971-exclusive 'Cuda grille hangs four modern headlights above a color-keyed bumper, a factory front valence and clear, sculpted parking lamps. At the top of the car a slick, AAR-style hood leads the eye to like-new glass, fresh stainless trim, and a black cloth top. At the sides of the car, shaved mirrors and shaved door handles ride above correct silver fender louvers and shaved marker lights. And at the back of the car, a satin black valence hangs like-new tail lights between a ducktail decklid spoiler, a second color-keyed bumper and centered stainless exhaust tips. The foundation for this killer build was a 20K mile 1995 Dodge Viper, which makes this Cuda's current mileage of 31,906 accurate to its drivetrain. And naturally, every bit of that snake's mechanical goodness made the transition 100% intact, with the Roe Racing supercharged V10 sending a dyno-proven 547 horsepower and a pavement-splitting 623 lb./ft. of torque to the car's fat rear wheels. It's virtually impossible to hurt one of these Viper engines as they are notoriously over-engineered and literally assembled for track time combat. And as a result, weekend warriors have been putting insane levels of boost through stock V10s for years without any difficulties what so ever. But wait, there's more. Not only does the big mill perform well, it's also highly aesthetically pleasing as the Time Machines team knew people would want to SEE the world's largest muscle car engine. And with its monochromatic valve covers, black blower hardware and brushed aluminum Viper graphics, the 488 looks like it would be right at home under the hood of a half-million dollar Italian exotic. All the donor car's original systems are intact and there's no sign of dirt, neglect, or leakage. And why would there be? This heavyweight Detroit brawler was designed and built to the same high standards as any other modern production car. It suffers none of the temperamental idiosyncrasies of the overrated imports with which its original shell competed. When you turn the key, it cranks to life swiftly and easily. And when you hit the gas, it pulls like a freight train going up a mountain! The interesting thing about Time Machines is the way they performed the Viper 'Cuda conversions. Instead of a simple engine swap, or a pro-touring style adaptation, this '71 'Cuda's body is actually mated to its Viper donor chassis as one structure. That means the view from under a lift is all supercar, all the time! At the edges of the aerodynamic floors, a beefy chassis is complete with a Borg Warner T56 6-speed manual transmission and a Dana 44 limited slip differential that's filled with stout 3.55 gears. The car's frame has been reinforced to improve precision and address concerns about cowl shake, and the cast unequal length double A-arm suspension features revised geometry, updated coil overs and factory sway bars which make the Phase II Viper a little more user-friendly. Pound on the four wheel disc brakes and they're more than up to the task of reeling in the engine's 547 horses, lap after lap. Romp on the gas and the center-exit exhaust system I mentioned earlier utilizes a dual inlet Flowmaster muffler to create a much improved roar. Throw the car into the corner, and handsome 18 inch wheels spin 275/35 front Michelin Pilot Sport performance radials in front of 335/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport performance radials. As you probably already know, this Plymouth's interior was the biggest challenge; but the car's transformation from 5-passenger muscle to 2-passenger sport is pretty much seamless in appearance. And for the most part, the conversion itself was straightforward aside from engineering correct A-pillar alignment. BODYWORK/TRIM Assembled in Hamtramck, Michigan in April of 1970, this spectacular pentastar is the beneficiary of a professional restoration that was completed in October of 2010. During that thorough rebuild, the car's all-original body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of excellent panel alignment, was stripped to bare metal, massaged into shape and thoroughly block-sanded into virtually flawless surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, correct Lemon Twist 2-stage was accented with correct strobe stripes and dressed in correct war paint. And today, after a mere 150 miles of road time, this precise Plymouth rolls as a national award-winning collector car that's primed for a serious investor. Not surprisingly, this AAR's track-bred appearance is backed by a long list of correct details. At the front of its glowing profile, a familiar, stainless-trimmed grille hangs a small "PLYMOUTH" script between clear headlights, flush-fit parking lamps, a correct elastomeric bumper and decaled driving lights. Behind that grille, a lightweight, AAR-exclusive hood, which is secured by fresh stainless lanyards, rolls a correct suede topcoat toward new glass that's framed in straight stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, bright door handles and correct racing mirrors combine with spotless exhaust tips and correct wind wings to provide an authentic, factory-fresh appearance. And at the back of the car, a Satin Black valence hangs fresh taillights and a small "'cuda" script between a second chrome bumper and correct ducktail spoiler. ENGINE Pull the pins on this coupe's matte-finished hood and you'll find an original, 340 cubic inch LA V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 3577130TA casting number, a November (11) 25th (25), 1969 (69) casting date and a matching partial VIN. Although SCCA Trans Am racecars were limited to 302 cubic inches, Plymouth stuck to the tried and true "no replacement for displacement" rule for street applications. That means this car received a powerplant that was specifically designed for high performance turnpike warriors. And, thanks to Holley tri-power carburetion, a correct Edelbrock intake, a high performance points distributor, high-flow cylinder heads and unique internals, it turned hefty 10.5 to 1 compression into 315 fire-breathing horses straight from the factory. That said; SCCA regulations and increasing insurance costs forced Chrysler to actually underrate the mill's output to just 290. But, in reality, the car easily disposed of most 'equally powered' stoplight challengers. Whatever the number, this engine's spotless bay is in brilliant, show-ready condition, displaying immaculate detailing and exact finishes throughout. Awesome Lemon Twist fenders provide excellent contrast to a glossy layer of Hemi Orange skin. A bright air cleaner looks great peeking through the aforementioned hood. And, as with most of today's award winning MoPars, every detail on this dyno-tuned beast has been returned to a convincing level of factory authenticity. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this impressive 'Cuda on a lift and you'll find exceptionally clean floors that feature a correct pattern of overspray. The high-winding small block churns power through an original A833 4-speed, which is authenticated by a March 12th, 1970 build stamp and matching partial VIN. That transmission spins a correct 8.75-inch axle. The car's suspension has been fully rebuilt to include factory power steering and correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. As expected, those 11-inch, AAR-exclusive drums are accompanied by specially tuned shocks and re-cambered springs that tilt the car to accommodate its unique exhaust pipes. Speaking of that exhaust, the usual 'muffler shop special' look has been exchanged for a clean, OEM-style appearance. And hooking all that mechanical prowess to the pavement is freshly restored Rallye wheels which spin E60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs in front of G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs to employ one of the first applications of staggered tire sizing. INTERIOR Swivel this Plymouth's solid-closing doors and you'll find a correct interior that's functional, straightforward and very livable. The front bucket and rear bench seats are wrapped in standard vinyl covers that display virtually no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a clean, wood-trimmed dash frames correct Rallye gauges above a correct Chrysler 8-track player. INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTIONYou are viewing my 1979 Plymouth Volare ex-Suffolk County New York Sheriff Department pursuit-class police car. It still has its original, VIN-matching 360-HP *(HP means "High Performance") V8 engine (RPO code "E58", "L" Code in VIN, the pursuit-class police engine offering) with four-barrel carburetor, heavy-duty 727 three-speed automatic transmission (replaced in the past) (code "D36") and 3.21:1 Sure-Grip (code "D91") rear axle. This vehicle has 135,000 miles (believed to be actual but this cannot be confirmed) and was delivered to Silver Chrysler Plymouth in Port Jefferson NY in July 1979 at a retail delivery price of $8,086.45. The last 25 years of ownership is known: me and person I bought it from who had it since 1990. Photos are from May 2015. “Yes”, there were F-Body Mopar squads, and “Yes” they are rare to see nowadays. I do not know how many police versions were built or how many remain. The Dodge Aspen and the Plymouth Volare models ran from 1977 through 1980 model years, giving way to the M-body Diplomat and Gran Fury. When the 440 cubic inch "big-block" pursuit rigs (B-body Monaco and Fury) went away after 1978, the F-bodies were actually the quickest (0-60 mph, 0-100 mph) Mopar squads in 1979...even quicker (not faster top-speed though) than the pursuit-class E86 440's from just the year before. This Volare is fairly well equipped (see factory fender tags removed so they can be read, see invoice copy - i do not have the original - in last picture). First the other relevant police codes are "A38" = Police Package (the big brakes, the anti-sway bars, 120-mph "Certified" Police speedometer, etc.), "K" = Police Grade Interior and Order code prefix, "C83" = Heavy Duty rear seats, "F58" = Reinforced Body Welds, "F66" = A/C Cut-Off switch (unknown condition), "F88" = Engine Oil Cooler, "N41" = Dual Exhaust, "N75" Auxilliary Oil Cooler, and "Y39" = Special Order. Other key options: "H51" = Air Conditioning (intact, does not blow cold), "G01" = Rear Defroster (condition unknown), "G11" = Tinted Glass.The vehicle runs and drives fine, but it is has a “police car” feel (very stiff suspension) if you've never driven one. All routine maintenance (brakes, fluids, belts, etc.) is current. I have rebuilt the original Thermo-Quad twice in past 10 years so if driving around the country is your objective, you might consider a more reliable aftermarket brand. The "Lean Burn" System is still operating.All electrical systems/instumentation work fine except the police dome light. There is no police electrical emergency equipment in the vehicle. There is a rubber plug in the roof where light bar wiring was placed. The "true" dual exhaust configuration (no catalytic converters) is still in place and has been recently replaced. Two tailpipes, exiting on passenger side, were used as the "oversized", original OEM single tailpipe/resonator assembly could not be located. The tires are 215/70-15 Eagle GT-4 high performance radials with excellent tread remaining. The 15x7 police-spec wheels are original and have been refinished. The dog dishes are original and in driver quality.In 2013, I had the entire vehicle professionally refinished in its original “Spinnaker White” exterior color (it came from the factory with "V02" which means "two-tone" per whatever the Suffolk County specifications were). During the refinishing, we noted that there was no evidence any previous, major collision damage. We did repair assorted dings/scratches There are properly executed metal repairs in the floor pan (we did this to preserve the body weld reinforcements unique to police cars), repairs inside lower front doors on both sides, but beyond that everything else is solid, original metal. The chrome/stainless trim is in good condition and overall is consistent with a vehicle of this age. The bumpers are in driver-quality condition and are showing some dulling (rear bumper in particular) and other age-related imperfections. The bumper extension on passenger side has a noticeable defect. There is a six-inch crack in the windshield (may require replacement if your state performs safety inspections on vehicles of this age). The driver front door weather seal and light switch in jamb is missing. The passenger side rear door rear edge chrome piece is missing.The interior is in very good original condition (including the headliner). Dash is straight with very minor cracks on holes where police microphone mounted. The RPO tag says "Bench Seat", but the buckets was how it was when I bought it. The OEM radio is an AM/CB model (no CB antenna) from this era and operates fine. The seats show wear consistent with their age but are otherwise pliable and without rips/tears (brownish colors are from dust). The rubber floor is original as well and in good condition (the driver side floor is just muddy).This 1979 Plymouth Volare is a genuine Mopar police pursuit-class F-body. There are some well-done F-body cop "clones" around, and of course some real nice true A38 cars too. But, you know you aren't going to see too many of the ones that actually did law enforcement work that are still in existence. This rare, rare vintage Mopar F-body squad has been my privilege to take care of and improve upon for while. So as always I sure hope this Volare police pursuit vehicle finds a good home, is kept intact, and preserved by other caretakers for another 36+ years. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. When you take a close look at this super clean coupe, it seems only fitting that the car's entire 43 year existence was spent in the hands of one very meticulous owner. Purchased new by Ronald North of Huntington, Indiana, it's the recent beneficiary of a modern, two-stage paint job. Thanks to very little exposure to the elements, that unique body was a solid, all-original piece that needed nothing more than prep work. A correct layer of Alpine White presents exceptionally well and, when combined with matte horizontals and correct Superbird call-outs, creates iconic muscle car looks. And today, this Plymouth is one stunningly straight showpiece that has no gremlins, suffers no thin spots and displays a high level of fit and finish. As you step back and stare at this 'bird's sinuous body, many adjectives come to mind. Wicked... Astonishing... Dreadful... Infamous... But, in reality, Chrysler spent a lot of R&D time making sure the car fit one specific descriptor: functional. Every piece of this Road Runner was whittled to maximum efficiency in pursuit of one goal: lapping large race tracks at a very high rate of speed. At the front of the car, a downforce producing nose hangs sleek, flip up headlights between a small grille, standard hood pins, hidden parking lamps and a body-matched chin spoiler. Behind that nose, drag reducing air extractors lead the eye to a cool 'Hustle Stuff' tachometer, clean glass and a show worthy combination of straight stainless trim and pliable black vinyl. At the sides of those extractors, prominent fender lines and Superbird-specific C-pillars frame bright marker lights, a correct Chrysler mirror and familiar chrome door handles. And at the back of the car, a Superbird-specific wing rides above a small "road runner" emblem, clear tail lights, a prominent "P L Y M O U T H" script, bright exhaust tips and an original chrome bumper. Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find a correct, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's fully detailed, completely sorted and ready to go. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared, Plymouth's 390 horsepower, 440 6 BBL powerplant was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled cleaner to three 2-barrel carburetors, which are bolted over a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. In front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling is supplied by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts and rebuilt engine accessories. Power is provided by a tagged Mopar red cap battery, which is wired to a correct Chrysler voltage regulator. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its new decals and Alpine White fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and clean Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of this Plymouth's ignition results in a rumbling, high-performance idle, hot or cold. Hoist this specialized B-Body and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, rolls exactly the way it came down Lynch Road's assembly line. A clean layer of undercoating protects weather-free floorpans that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando mill, an original A727 Torqueflite, which wears a matching 162346 partial VIN, provides solid, poignant shifts through all three gears. That proven transmission sends power to an 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end which is equipped with correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi suspension utilizes Cosmoline-replicating torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of a painted, leak-free fuel tank. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by aluminized tubes that bend around an H-pipe crossover, traditional turbo mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all this Mopar goodness rolls on pristine Rallye wheels which twist F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around subdued center caps and bright stainless trim rings. Inside this famous Plymouth, a completely original interior is clean, well-optioned and surprisingly stylish. Seating, an ultra-rare all-bench set up, displays no significant signs of wear. In front of those benches, a straight, crack-free dash hangs original factory gauges beside a familiar Music Master radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet is protected by rubber, "road runner" branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, original door panels carry the seat's silver stripe motif around black frames, dent-free stainless and traditional chrome hardware. Above those panels, old school shoulder belts frame a tight, black headliner. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk is complete with a plaid mat, dual decklid decals, a correct tire and an original jack.
