1974 PLYMOUTH CUDA - REAL BLACK ON BLACK CAR - FOR SALE 1974 PLYMOUTH CUDA - REAL BLACK ON BLACK CAR - FOR SALE! This auction is for a truly rare car, a REAL 1974 BS23 ‘Cuda, factory TX9 Black paint, with a Black interior, and a white stripe! Although it is a project car, it is very worthy of restoration, and will make someone a great winter project car. It originally came with the 318 2bbl 150hp engine, with a 904 automatic trans. The original powertrain is missing, and someone back when converted it to a 4-speed. As you can see from the pics, it has a manual trans floor hump, and a clutch pedal installed in it. I am unaware if these parts are identical to what the factory would have installed, if it had been an original 4-speed car. If you’re a MOPAR guy, we all know that the 1971s are the King ‘Cudas, then the 1970, due to the 426 Hemis, the 440 Six-Packs, etc. In 1972, 1973, and 1974, these were gone. However, 1974 was the last year of this great E-body style, and this year had the SMALLEST production figures of ANY of the years! For all 1974, there were only 11,734 Total Barracudas, with only 4,989 of these being BS23 ‘Cudas, leaving 6,745 that were the actual Barracuda. (For reference, consider that over 151,000 Camaros were built for 1974, over 362,000 Chevelles, and 386,000 of the UGLY 1974 Mustang IIs were made!) According to the best sources I can find on short notice, it appears that there were only 2,412 BS23G4B ‘Cudas, with the automatic transmission, and although I can’t narrow down exactly how many were Black on Black, there were numerous colors, so it is a VERY rare car, and how many are left? Also, the 72-3-4 ‘Cudas have been appreciating quite a bit over the last several years, as have other mid-late 70s models, so this car is a WORTHY resto project! If this car was a 1971 ‘Cuda, you couldn’t TOUCH it at 3 TIMES this price! The ‘Cuda has its original tag, as broken down as follows: E44 – 318 2bbl D34 – Auto Transmission – 904 Torqueflight BS23 G4B 244391 – VIN# TX9 – Black Paint A6X9 – Black Interior 000 – No Upper Door Frame Paint C10 – Build Date December 10th, 1973 331360 – Vehicle Order# TX9 – Black Painted Top U – Made for USA B41 – Front Disc Brakes w/std 10” Rear Drums C16 – Console w/Floor Shift C56 – Bucket Seats G11 – Tinted Glass G54 – LH Remote Chrome Racing Mirror J25 – 3-speed Wipers J54 – Sport Hood M21 – Chrome Roof Drip Moldings M25 – Chrome Sill Moldings M26 – Chrome Wheel Lip Moldings M31 – Chrome Belt Molding M88 – Chrome Decklid Molding N76 – Coolant Recovery System N85 – Tachometer w/Rallye Gauge Cluster R11 – AM Radio V6W – White Longitudinal Stripe L2 – Assembly Line 2 743 – (Unknown) I got this car from a local friend of mine who has owned it for about 15 years, and just recently decided to sell it. I would LOVE to fix it up myself, but I just don’t have the time, too many other projects to deal with. What I would do with this car is make the “Ultimate Rat Rod”, at least for awhile, anyway. I would build a killer 440, get a 5-speed stick (with an original pistol-grip shifter, so it looks like a stock 4-speed), get all the suspension, steering, electrical, brakes, etc redone, stuff as fat rear tires as I could on some 8-1/2 inch offset Rallyes, get the 3.55 rear end all set up, but LEAVE THE BODY ALONE for now! Can you imagine the FUN when you pull up next to one of these new pretty Mustangs or Camaros or Corvettes in this car that looks all ratty on the outside, and then you proceed to BLOW THEIR DOORS OFF??? Besides, you wouldn’t be worried about getting door dings at car shows, or the local Wal-Mart! I’d have some fun for a long time, and THEN restore the body LATER!!! (I’ve had perfect show cars, and I’ve had imperfect drivers, and quite frankly, drivers are more fun!) Some of the ‘Cuda’s sheet metal will need rust repair or replacement, but most of it can be saved. The entire floorboard is in good shape, including under the back seat, there are only a few small holes in the driver front floorboard that will need welding. Some touch-up welding needs to be done in the front wheelwells where there was some previous work done, but they aren’t too bad. The trunk floor is going to need either complete replacement, or a lot of repair, along with the trunk extensions. I would replace both lower quarters, at the mid-body seam, if I was doing the resto. Then, there is a little hole on the lower rear corner of the passenger door (pic# 38 on my site, see below), and some rust repair on the lower front passenger fender. Of course, there is a lot of regular body work to be done, dents, old bondo removal etc, after 42 years, as you can see from the pics. There are many extra items that come with the car at the Buy-It-Now price, including: A complete 440 engine that is 1974 date-coded, that came out of a 1974 Dodge Motorhome, but without the carb/intake manifold that are shown in the pics in the picture link below. Pair of ‘Cuda doors that are in great shape. A 3.55 Sure-Grip rear end “pumpkin”. If you wish to purchase the car without these items, I’m open to it, make me a specific offer. Also please note that pic #24 is of someone else’s ’74 Cuda, that shows what this car looked like when new, that pic IS NOT of this car! One other note, I have a complete roof section that is also for sale separately (I included a pic of it in this auction), but I wouldn’t use this roof section for this car, get a $600 Roof Skin from AMD, and just section out the sunroof part, use the rest of the new metal for a few patches where needed. Save this complete ‘Cuda roof section for a 1970 or 1971 high-$ ‘Cuda, that had a vinyl top and is totally rusted beyond saving. MUCH better use of this roof! Or, just leave the pop-up sunroof in it, it was probably put in 35 years ago, very retro! I'm not sure if ebay will allow this link to my own website, so you can see almost 100 pics of the ‘Cuda, but here it is: See Picture List If this doesn't show up, I’ll try adding that link to this description later if I can, or message me, or call me, and I can give you the link. Also, my pics are about 4 times the size of the ones here, so you can really see any details you are interested in. After looking through all the pics, if there is some part of the car that you have additional questions about it, I’ll be happy to take another pic of whatever it is you wish to see better. I know what it’s like to buy a car “sight unseen”, which is why I try to have tons of pics. I have been a buyer/seller as CudaManiac on ebay now for over 18 years, have 100% positive feedback both buying and selling. I want both the buyer and myself to be happy with the deal, I don’t want to EVER get my FIRST negative or even neutral feedback, so if you are unsure of something, ASK!!! I'm asking $6,800 or best offer (US Dollars only), at this time. I'm open to offers of course, but if you have to borrow the money, get the approval FIRST. Also, I reserve the right to end this auction early, as the Cuda is advertised elsewhere. If you have any questions or comments, either send me a message through ebay, or call me (Darrell) on my cell at (405) 650-2864, I'm in Oklahoma, Central Standard Time.

PPI's WELCOME OFFERS WELCOME! Evolve Motors is pleased to present this 1970 Plymouth ‘Cuda! This is not your ordinary Mopar. Coming off a fresh restoration in 2015 this car was built to it's factory options and specification and looks amazing. The best part is that while it retains all of her original driveline and engine, it has a freshly built motor. The original block is bored .60 over and a 4” stroker crank bring the displacement up to 416 cid. This Hemi/6-pack eating monster absolutely rips while retaining it's original facade. The car sounds incredible and is once of the most enjoyable cars to drive. Exterior: This ‘Cuda looks great wearing a fresh coat of its original Lime Green Metallic paint. Paint work appears to have been done to a high standard; green has a nice deep glow and the slight metallic sparkle of the finish gives the car a great shine. The black hockey-stick stripe does well to accentuate the car’s muscular lines and contrasts beautifully with the green metallic paint, as do the originally optioned Magnum 500 wheels. The car underwent a very thorough restoration in 2015, so the overwhelming majority of the car is in like-new condition. There are no dents, dings, or scratches to be found anywhere on the car. All chrome is intact and very well presented,. Panel fitment is good. We do note the gap between the hood and nose is slightly off; gap is negligible on the passenger side but a bit more noticeable on the driver’s side. We chose not to re-align the hood so we could avoid potentially marring the paint anywhere. Interior: This car was originally spec’d with a dark green interior, which was swapped out for a new black leather interior during the restoration. We think the black looks fantastic and, though not original, is a welcomed change. Interior presents as new and carries the smell of fresh carpet and vinyl. Seats are free of any cracks or scratches in the slightest. Carpeting is new. Door panels, dash, headliner, and steering wheel are mint. The only part of the interior that doesn’t appear new are the gauges; which show some slight patina but look fabulous. Radio is the correct Chrysler Solid State unit, and a USB plug-in has been fitted on the underside of the dash. Odometer reads 36,366 though with the amount of work that’s been done (keep reading…) is somewhat irrelevant. Mechanical: In 2015 the car had a full engine build, to the tune of nearly $9,000. Please see the photos, as the receipt from Matt’s Motor Worx in Minnesota is documented. All features function properly. The cars braking system is all rebuilt, as are most of the mechanicals. All bushings and wearables all show nicely, as you would expect. The carb is tuned nicely and it runs great. The transmission shifts nice and crisp. The car is wonderful to drive and makes amazing smooth power plus it sounds fantastic! Underbody: As evidenced in the photos, the underbody is quite nice. There is no through rust of any sort. All casting numbers are clearly visible and components show very little wear. We notice a dent in the right forward rail that was left alone when restored. The car is properly finish underneath and looks outstanding up in the air as you can see in our pictures. Overall: This is a sharp looking, fully-sorted example of one of the Mopar greats. It has the menacing muscle car appearance, performance, and sound, all while remaining elegant with its understated color. The 416 built motor is ready to walk all over any big block you put next to it. These cars are aging very well; with the recent restoration, this one just got a second lease on life and will be enjoyed for many, many more years. RARE and VERY SPECIAL MOPAR: This particular AAR Cuda is a very rare and special car. With only 2,724 AAR Cudas ever produced – of which only 1,120 came with 4-speed transmissions - this is a very rare Mopar. Making this car even rarer and more special is the fact that it is a true survivor, highly original, and unrestored car in mint condition with less than only 35,000 original miles. As if this wasn’t enough, the car came for the private collection of NASCAR legend Ray Evernham. Ray Evernham is a 3-time NASCAR champion crew chief for Jeff Gordon, and was named the NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated “Person of the Year” in 1999. Ray presently serves as a consultant to Hendrick Motorsports and hosts Velocity's TV show "AmeriCarna". He is also a classic car analyst for the Barrett Jackson car auctions. Ray is a great guy and philanthropist. He is very active for the cause of autism, and has a foundation named the Evernham Family Racing for a Reason. Finally, this special AAR Cuda just received Top Show Honors at the 2015 Le Concours de Livingston - an invitation only concourse event featuring over 100 premier classic cars and motorcycles. THEY'RE ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE: As mentioned above, this 1970 AAR Cuda it is a true survivor, highly original, and unrestored car in mint condition with less than only 35,000 original miles. The AAR-spec 340 Six Barrel engine is unstamped, and verified to be a warranty replacement by the original selling Plymouth dealership, which took place in 1971. With the exception of the dealer installed warranty replacement block, upgraded radio tires, battery, belts and hoses, the remainder of the car is all original and in fantastic survivor condition; including the Six Barrel carburetors, 4-speed transmission (D21) and rear differential (D57), fast ratio power steering (S74), power disc brakes, side exhaust (N44), very rare Elastomeric (A21) colored front bumper, wheels, all the body metal, chrome, trunk compartment, floorboards, black high bucket vinyl seats, carpet, dash, instrument panel, solid state AM radio (R11), and the finally, the all original high impact yellow paint (Lemon Twist, code FY1). In review of the pictures including in this listing, please pay special attention to the “hurray up and get these AAR Cudas out the factory door” paint over-spray in the engine compartment, trunk, and undercarriage. The first picture of the trunk shows paint drippings very common of original factory paint jobs. Again, this is a non-restored car, with all original metal and paint! MINT UNRESTORED CONDITION: This is an unrestored survivor in excellent condition. The body is rust free and straight, and the paint and chrome are in great condition and really shines. There are few very minor light scuffs on the side of the doors, and a very small dent on the hood of the car. The engine has minor wear marks and light rust in areas such as the fan blades. The original side strobe stripes (V6H) are in good condition, with very minor wear or peeling. The interior of the car is in fantastic condition, and shows very little if any wear. It even includes the original steering column lock instructions on the driver side sun visor. The trunk is in great condition, and only has slight surface rust stains in a few areas. This is the same for the undercarriage. It is in very good condition, with only light surface rust on shocks, springs, and a few other places. This Cuda starts easy and runs strong, and is perfect working condition, including the motor, transmission, brakes, and steering. All of the instruments are in great working condition. The battery is new, and the oil was last changed in April of 2015. Included with the sale is the original window sticker. OWNERSHIP HISTORY: Built on April 15, 1970 at the Hamtramck assembly plant, this four (4) owner Mopar legend was originally sold new at H.L. Moore Chrysler Plymouth in Albany, CA. It was originally purchased by Marshall K of Livermore, CA. He was the brother-in-law of the owner of the dealership. A great guy and avid car collector named Jon K out of the Minneapolis, MN area, acquired the AAR Cuda (as well as a 1964 Plymouth Fury) from the original owner in the late 1970s. The car had just over 30,000 miles on it at this time, and Jon bought it at the age of 40 to add to his fast growing car collection. Jon was early to recognize the future growing values of classic cars, and recognized the AAR Cuda as a special car that would only increase in value. As such, the car was acquired to become part of his collection and appreciate in value, and not to drive. Jon informed me that he removed the driver’s side hood spring when storing, as to limit the upward bowing of the fiberglass hood. Nearing retirement, Jon sold the the AAR Cuda as part of a block of other cars he had collected. The Cuda was sold in January 2013 at the Mecum Auction, at which time the actual mileage had increased to only 33,232 miles. Due to both its originality and rich racing history, Ray Evernham acquired the car to add to his collection of cars displayed in Mooresville, NC. For those of you that watch AmeriCarna, you know that Ray is a great car lover, and seeks out unique and interesting cars with a lot of history and originality. One of Ray’s bucket-list cars had always been a white 1958 Impala like the one from his favorite movies - American Graffiti. Ray contacted me earlier this year about my 1958 Impala. My Impala was not only the same look and color to the Impala in American Graffiti, but was very original and in great condition, featured a # match 348 tri-power motor, and had very low mileage at only 39K miles. After completely verifying the originality of the Impala, we agreed on a partial trade for the Impala for a car from his collection of over 80 classics and race cars. Included in the pictures featured in this listing are pictures of the AAR Cuda as part of the Ray Evernham collection of cars in North Carolina, and a picture of Ray with the 1958 Impala acquired as part of the transaction for the AAR Cuda. Ray mentioned how much he loves the 1958 Impala in the November 2015 issue of Hemmings magazine that included a feature article on Ray and his impressive collection. There are also pictures of Jon K, the second owner of the AAR Cuda. They include pictures of the AAR Cuda when it was owned by Jon, as well as pictures of other cars that were or are still today part of Jon's impressive car collection. There is also a recent picture of Jon with the ORIGINAL Goodyear Polyglas GT E60-15s and G60-15 tires that came original on the AAR Cuda from the factory. I took this picture recently when I met with Jon in the Minneapolis, MN area. The ORIGINAL tires ARE INCLUDED with the purchase of the AAR Cuda. Finally, there is a picture of the AAR Cuda receiving Top Show Honors at the 2015 Le Concours de Livingston. A review of Hagerty valuation information shows that the AAR Cudas have not only been steadily increasing in value, but have experienced an especially sharp increase in value over the past few months. This special and unrestored 1970 AAR Cuda would be a great investment and fantastic additional to any Mopar collection.

The Formula S package gave Plymouth its first V8 pony car status. Today that means you can be just as powerful as a Mustang, but much more distinctive at the car shows since these cars were rare...and best of all, it's even more affordable too. There's nothing else on the road that looks like an early Barracuda, with that massive wrap-around rear window (largest ever of its era), and crisp creases along the tops of the fenders. Clearly derived from the popular Valiant, the Barracuda received its own sheetmetal and was an awesome first shot in pony car wars. This one was restored a few years ago, and it included a respray of the factory red. It looks good simply because the foundation is very solid and straight. Of course, there are no reproduction panels available, so you know it's all factory steel, and the shape of the body leaves few places for any second-rate workmanship to hide. Panel gaps are excellent, which means the doors close with the unique classic Chrysler authority. For those few who know their Formula S coupes, this one does not disappoint, with the right features such as the aggressive full-length triple stripe, blacked out grille, and super shiny upgraded wheels. The Barracuda had a true sporty design, and this black interior shows it off perfectly. The bucket seats have been recovered in the factory's cool intricate pattern, so you can feel it tickle your back as you slip behind the wheel. Your left hand goes on the thin wood-rimmed steering wheel, and your right one rests on the illuminated center-mounted shift lever. As you look across the dashboard, the sea of black is artfully broken up by plenty of stainless and chrome that's on everything from the heat/defrost controls, to the original AM radio...it's truly '60s. Best of all, this Formula S still retains the large factory tach that was mounted to the left of the driver gauge package. The true appeal of the Formula S package was the drivetrain. They received the 273 cubic-inch Commando V8, topped by a 4-barrel carburetor, which advertised 235 horsepower but felt nearly like a rival for the HiPo Mustangs. This high-winding small block is a great choice in the lightweight Barracuda. Chrysler wasn't doing the matching numbers thing in 1965 so its impossible to verify, but this one appears to have all its correct factory-issued components, including the engine and TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The engine bay is very nicely detailed, from the tall, chrome air cleaner, to the trick finned valve covers. Underneath, the Formula S package offered upgraded springs and shocks, delivering a much more European feel. In fact, this is one of the most agile cars of the period, which is only aided by the modern BF Goodrich tires. It's time to be as quick and cool as a Mustang in a coupe that's far more rare and interesting. And, for all you car show fans, this Formula S even comes with the Factory buildsheet and restoration receipts to show off. So it's almost irresistible to find one like this 1973 Plymouth 'Cuda that blends original style with enough modern upkeep to be a daily driver. Owing a 'Cuda from this era is a bit like entrance into an exclusive club. By 1973, higher insurance premiums were killing muscle car production numbers, and Chrysler always had lower figures then the rest of The Big Three, so these are rare. Combine this with Mopar's traditionally long option list, and the 'Cuda camaraderie is often about the few ways owner's cars are alike because most are even so much more rare and unique. But one piece that everyone looks for on these classics is Chrysler's famous High Impact colors. The Sublime Green carries a great glow-in-the-dark vibrancy that comes from a professional and modern application of this iconic hue. Still, it's not so bold that you miss out on this E-body's little touches, like the hood scoops, or the red grille accents that look like the glowing eyes of a hungry wolf. In the rear the black accent stripe, rear panel, and spoiler also add an extra touch of that great aggressive feeling. This one has led the life of an enjoyed weekend driver, including the wheels being upgraded to larger 15-inch American Racing Torq Thrust units for better street performance. All of this makes for a coupe with an original pedigree, but not so preserved that there is any apprehension about taking it out on the road. The moment you slip into the high-back bucket seat, it feels like 1973 all over again. Every inch of the black interior feels original and near pristine from the door panels to the carpets to the headliner. You've got the desirable center console with the T-bar gearshift sitting boldly in the middle of the wood veneer. The wood rimmed three-spoke sports steering wheel feels simple, direct, and effective. The same can be said for the original heat/defrost controls and radio, which are prioritized for the driver in these classic E-bodies. In fact, the only piece that doesn't feel factory-correct is a set of newer aftermarket gauges, but these are always welcomed because you're happy to know about what's going on in the engine bay. The optional 340 cubic inch V8 was a vital upgrade because it symbolizes the end of an era. Not long after this coupe left Chrysler's Detroit/Hamtramck factory, the first energy crisis began to close the book on powerful American V8 cars. So, just to make sure this swan song motor is running at its full potential, there are performance enhancements such as an Edelbrock carburetor, Edelbrock Performer Air-Gap intake, Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) electronic ignition, and a Be Cool aluminum radiator. All of this presents extremely well in the engine bay, with the motor and intake painted the correct light blue, and the dark Mopar performance air cleaner and valve covers standing out against the bold green fenders. You better believe this one make a menacing noise with the power adding long-tube headers that connect to a stainless dual exhaust. But more than just an intimidator, this 'Cuda is a fine driver with its three-speed automatic transmission, front disc brakes, and grippy modern Nitto Extreme ZR performance tires. There were less than 10,700 'Cudas built in 1973, and far fewer have survived today as nicely as this one. Buying this speedy Plymouth means you're a member of a rare Mopar club, and considering the exclusivity and performance you receive, the dues seem quite reasonable. It was rotisserie restored about five years ago by a man in Michigan. He did most of the work himself and did a fantastic job. The car has mostly brand new metal on it. The most interesting part of this build is that he cloned it into a Hemi Cuda. The car runs and drives very nice and has only been driven a few times the build was completed. He stored the car in a climate controlled garage. Spare keys, dyno information and a stack of receipts from the build are included in the sale.
