FULL DATA: 0U13W 700438 63A HM1 24 22J 3 3Built in Louisville, KY- the 438th Edsel built there for the 1960 model year with a scheduled production date of September 22, 1959. Sold new in Lynchburg. VA at Hammersley Motors. Car spent most of its life there until purchased by The King Family in Botetourt County in the 1980s. We purchased the car from them in 1995 and have owned it since. 292 auto orig Alaskan Gold with Polar White Roof HAVE COMPLETE NEW CORRECT Gold vinyl and brown pebblecloth SMS interior for car (See photos it is the correct vinyl for seats and door panels, vinyl panels and pebble cloth) COMPLETE CAR plus extra set of two door trim! (That is a rare and costly component alone!) Engine trans refurbished during start of restoration... Front clip still off but complete- radiator out of car: we were in process of putting engine components back in car when my father passed. Car ran fine when tested after refurbish... 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible I will be listing a few cars here in the next week or two for my family. We are reducing are number of cars, so please see my other listings as well. I am not a dealer. The Ford Motor Company introduced the Edsel brand in 1958 and had high hopes for its success. It was available in versions based on both the large Mercury and smaller Ford Bodies. Unfortunately for Ford and Edsel, the brand was a commercial failure due to several reasons, such as a weak economy and sagging mid-priced cars sales. For 1959, the Edsel line was simplified and the up-level Mercury-based models were no longer offered and prices were slashed. Unfortunately, this was too little, too late, as sales continued to fall from 68,045 in 1958 to 44,891 in model-year 1959. The Edsel line was quietly dropped before the end 1959 calendar year, after only a few 1960 models were assembled ... During its brief lifespan, the Edsel brand was able to acquire a cult following and had became one of the first collectible cars of the Fifties! Even today they remain one of the most recognizable automobiles of all time.This particular 1959 Edsel Corsair Convertible is painted in the numbers matching color of solid President Red (Code FF). It has traveled only 53,465 miles and has Edsel's biggest 1959 engine, the 361 cubic-inch, 303 horsepower 'Super Express' V8. Mated to the engine is a 'Dual Power' three-speed automatic transmission. The base price without options was $3,072.00 and there were only 1,343 Edsel Convertibles built in 1959. Less than 100 remain today! This car is completely original and has won trophies at many of the local shows (including the Gold Class Trophy at a local Edsel show). The engine idles well and makes good power. The transmission shifts smoothly. The car will get down the road and flow with modern traffic effortlessly. Steers and stops very well. Drives very straight down the road with no unusual vibrations, pulling, noises, etc. All of the gauges work, the radio and clock are currently non-functional. The top now operates manually. Both doors open and shut with a thud and the trunk/hood open and close easily. Truly a pleasure to drive! It is ready to drive and enjoy right away. This Edsel is a beautiful car and a true automotive work of art. It is a good original car that has been painted and restored ONLY as needed. The exterior paint is very good. Very nice interior with a good looking dash and steering wheel. The engine compartment and trunk compartments are very clean. Very nice glass all the way around. Hello, Package deal. This 58 Edsel Citation Convertible is being sold as a big project. This is an extremely unusual early production example of a already low production convertible model (about 900 total produced 76B). It is extremely rare however, I feel it is priced reasonably for what it is and its high potential. Only one built with Powder Blue and Frost White with a gold interior. The car is rough and has rust issues. Although in poor original condition, it is very much restorable. The serial number plate is intact and still in jamb. I believe I have most of the convertible only trim and pieces but, not all. Window frames are in car (rolled down). Under back seat area and tub area quite solid condition, also is the cowl area very solid. Problem areas are and not limited to: rockers, most of trunk floors and left rear quarter bad. Clear CA title, no back fees. Included also with the above mentioned is a mostly complete 58 Citation Coupe, it too has a title (and worthy itself for restoration) but, I was going to use it (reluctantly) for parts to restore convertible. This one may run with some work but, never tried?? Between the two cars you would have nearly everything needed. This car is included but, can be deducted should you not need it (-2500.00) from total. In a nutshell your getting one of the rarest and one of the most potentially highest valued 1st year (of only 3 years) 1958 Edsel's of them all. A lot of work ahead but, all the basics are here to begin restoration. A worthy project indeed. She was the 20th vehicle from the end of the 1939 Model K production run and 3 digits before President Franklin Roosevelt's Sunshine Special. This rare particular car is one of about a dozen 1939's finished, sold and titled as 1940 models and is one of only two 1940 models know to still exist. A very rare car indeed! This particular car is also believed to possibly be the very last custom coach automobile built by the famous John B. Judkins' company, who began building carriages in Amesbury, Massachusetts in 1857. She was delivered to her new customer in St.Louis on Jan 31, 1940. Busch Sr. Other prominent families such as the Catlins and the Mallinckrodts also purchased coach built luxury cars in St. Louis at the time.
