Owned by just one person for the past 21 years, this car has been garage stored and babied and shows it! The bright Rangoon Red factory Ford color is correct to what the car was born with, but had been redone in the early 90’s. It still looks glossy, slick, and wet, and shows no more blemishes and signs of use than your average two year old car at the local dealers lot does! The car has been carefully cleaned, waxed, and stored indoors under a top quality car cover which is included. This has kept the car looking fantastic, with just the normal small scuffs, stone chips, and typical “regular use” light blemishes you would see on any car of this caliber and investment range. I have taken a 4x4 felt covered magnet over the entire painted surface of the car and it sticks like glue, as there is NO sign of any bondo or patch panels, and no sign of chicken wire or beer cans either. Just good old FORD factory steel, with solid seams at the rockers, correct rolls in the fenders, and no rot to be found. It is a super clean and straight body, with exceptionally nice gaps and panel fit. Trim and bright work on the car is original, and is in good condition all the way around. A weekend with some Mother’s polish and you can make it look even better than it does. Emblems and badging are in very good original condition. Chrome bumpers front and rear are original, look incredible, and are the kind of clean, straight pieces you just can’t get in a reproduction. Hubcaps are original, and show age and signs of use. They are mounted on original steel rims with black paint that has chipped in spots. All the wheels show good for driving and enjoying the car, but if you want to make it more of a full SHOW car, you’ll want to clean them up and paint the rims again. Tires are recent BFGOODRICH Radial T/A’s, and are sized P205/70R14. They have at least 70% of the useable tread remaining, and do not need replaced at this time. Glass on the car is in very good condition, with just light marks, if anything, to be found. There is no sign of laminate issues, and there are no cracks or splits in the glass. Rubber seals and weather stripping looks great, and the only sign of brittle rubber on the car is the vent window trim, which is original and has not been replaced in 51 years! It is still serviceable, but not up to scale with the rest of the clean, more recent rubber. The convertible top was replaced not too long ago, and it still shows wonderfully today! Keep in mind, this car has NOT been detailed, so some of the little water spots and things on the top should simply clean up when you prepare the car for its first show. There are no known rips, tears, or seam pulls, and the plastic rear window is fog free, and undamaged. The power top works just like it should, and goes up or down in a matter of seconds with the touch of the dash mounted switch. Latches seal it up tight, and I have had the pleasure of driving the car in a typical Florida torrential downpour, and it was leak and issue free for me. The tonneau was new with the top, and it fastens and sits just as it should, with all snaps intact and functional. It is clean, neat, and ready to show. Overall, the outside of this car is in 8.5 out of 10 condition, and when you take the time to detail it from stem to stern, it will show even nicer. Pop open the hood, and you are met with the cars original 260 V8 CHALLENGER motor that it was born with. The engine has been rigorously maintained over the years, with constant oil changes, preventative maintenance, and many OEM replacement parts installed to make sure it was reliable and ready to go. Recent upgrades on the car include the fuel pump, fuel lines, rotor, distributor, plugs, plug wires, carb cleaning, new fuel sending unit, water pump, battery, and a fully re-cored and pressure tested radiator. It starts easily, idles cleanly, and is ready to go at a moment’s notice. Snick the cars original 3-speed transmission into gear, ease out the clutch, and the 260 gives you power on demand at any throttle position! You can easily spin the tires if you want to, or let the power build through each shift until you are exceeding the speed limit! Power is smooth and steady, and ready to help you pass, merge onto the interstate, or just pick on that kid in the Honda Civic at the red light. There is no stuttering, no backfires, no fuel loading or starvation issues, and it is about as perfectly tuned as you could ask for. Engine note is healthy and mellow, thanks to the custom installed Cherry Bomb style mufflers put on with the fresh exhaust system. The prior owner kept fuel logs, and noted that on the highway the car averages about 18mpg, while in town, it sits at about 15mpg. Pop the trunk, and you get an original and ultra-clean floor pan with no signs of rot, rust, or prior repair. It has some marks from being used as, well – A TRUNK, but still looks great! The full-size spare is correct to the car, but not a modern radial. There is a jack and lug wrench included, as well as the original trunk pan liner in the same plaid finish as the spare tire cover. The liner has seen better days and is included for originalities sake, but you will probably want to just order a new one. Trunk seal is recent, like 90% of the other rubber bits, and shows wonderfully. Underneath the car, the chassis is clean and original, and shows very well. Pans are original and have no sign of rust, rot, or damage. The entire brake system was replaced just a few years ago, and it was then switched over to a full silicone fluid system for safety. USE ONLY SILICONE FLUID IN THE CAR! Braking is spot on, and the car scrubs off speed without any odd pulling, wander, excess fade, or unusual modulation. Ride quality is great, with just enough give to make all-day cruising seem like a Sunday in your favorite chair, and a steadiness from the newer shocks and modern radials that lets you have fun carving through those rural twist’s too. All of the suspension components, seals, bushings, bearings, kingpins, and rods have been checked and appear to be as recent as the prior owners notes said they were. Tracking is straight and true, and the car has the perfect amount of steering wheel feedback, and no slop or sawing when you drive it. One hand on the wheel is all it takes when flying down the interstate, and the car will easily manage highway speeds without complaint. Overall, the mechanicals of this car are in exceptional condition, and after spending about 150 miles behind the wheel, I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. Speaking of driving it, most of your time is going to be spent in the interior, and it is VERY nice! Door panels are original, clean, and show normal signs of use and wear. Door pulls and window rollers are original, and show light patina and age but work perfectly. Dice toppers were added to the tops of the door locks to compliment the red and white color scheme. They look great, and work perfectly, and the doors lock with the included key. Kick panels and rear panels are original, and show typical signs of normal use. Rear ashtrays, emblems, badging, switches, and climate controls are all original, appear in average or above condition, and do what they should without issue. Rear view mirror and convertible top chrome trim panels are original, show patina and signs of age, but work perfectly. Carpet is in above average condition, looks amazing, and is damage free. Seats are in very good condition as well, with no rips or tears, and the split front bench folds like it should to allow passengers easy access to the rear seat. Original steering column is topped by the original wheel which shows light patina and age, but could easily be refinished if you wanted. The chrome horn button has light patina and is non-functional, and the shift arm and signal arms show light patina but work perfectly. Dash is original, and has no cracks or damage. Front dash panel silver section looks great, and the gauge housing holds fully functional gauges for FUEL, TEMP, SPEEDO, and ODMOMETER. Odometer shows 89,381 miles, and the prior owner said he believed it to be correct, but the State of Florida, as they usually do, automatically exempted the mileage on the title when they moved here and registered the cars. Headlights work, hi beam switch works, turn signals work, hazards work, and the wipers work. The climate system works as it should. The radio is inoperative, and is not hooked up. I do not know if it works or not, and the prior owner never had it work either. The 12V cigar lighter works, and the car has a functional ashtray and fully lined glove box too. The interior presents wonderfully, and the patina on the original items I mentioned really isn’t bad, especially if you are going to drive and enjoy the car. According to the HAGERTY VALUE TREND VEHICLE INDEX, the car is valued as follows, and has had a slow and steady value growth over the the past 5 year period. Condition #1 = $41,300.00 These vehicles are the best in the world. The visual image is of the best car, in the right colors, driving onto the lawn at the finest concours. Perfectly clean, the car has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned, and materials used are correct and superbly fitted. The one word description for #1 cars is "concours." Condition #2 = $28,700.00 These cars could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 cars that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, but will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass and interior will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, no unusual noises will emanate from the engine compartment. The vehicle will drive as a new car of its era would. The one word description for #2 cars is "excellent." Condition #3 = $20,300.00 Cars in this classification could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 car, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior. #3 cars drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These cars are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 car. Condition #4 = $13,500.00 These cars are daily drivers, with major flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting or scratches, the windshield might be chipped. Paintwork is imperfect, and perhaps the fender has a minor dent. The interior could have split seams or a cracked dash. No major parts are missing, but the wheels could differ from the originals, or the interior might not be stock. A #4 car can also be a deteriorated restoration. "Fair" is the one word that describes a #4 car. I have priced the car accordingly, and feel strongly that these affordable American Classic’s will continue the steady rise in value and investment return in the next 5 year cycle. In the area? Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool and absurdly rare 1963.5 Ford Falcon Futura Convertible. Ford’s Flagship sport car just before the advent of the Mustang, this car is an excellent example of a rare combination of factory equipment, originality and pure California Cool. This Falcon was recovered from an estate sale here in so cal. It was disassembled but mostly complete. The gentleman who had begun the restoration was very meticulous about cataloging parts. We found zero body filler. All of the panels were very clean. Much but not all of the chrome was replated. Everything else was either completely rebuilt or replaced with OEM new. RarityWe used the term absurdly rare for this Falcon. While quite a few Falcons were built in 1963, this one sports a rare combination of being a Futura, Convertible, V8, 4 Speed car from the factory. It’s nearly identical to a Sprint except that is has the factory front bench seat (to keep the girlfriend close) and no tach on the dash. Few Sprints were built and even fewer still configured as a Futura like this one. Matching numbers, refinished to factory spec with a few upgrades, (the mid package; headers, exhaust, radio, wheels and tires). Exterior.Rangoon Red respray in 2016 is correct to the trim tag. Nice and clean original Rangoon Red paint can be found in the trunk and convertible top stowage area. Wheels, Tires15” Custom made Magnum 500 wheels and new Cooper Cobra tires. Original Futura hub caps and wheels are included. Engine260 CID Ford V8, headers and a fresh dual exhaust with chrome concealed tips. Freshly serviced radiator, new water pump, belts and hoses. Never noticed that stuff on a Falcon before, did you? The car looks great in person, and you'll be proud to roll up to the next cruise night behind the wheel, and you'll undoubtedly get extra appreciation for daring to be a little different. Matching blue buckets give the interior a sporty demeanor, and there's plenty of space for four in this cool ragtop. Since blue is the car's original interior color, it has a very uniform look thanks to a lot of new parts, including carpets with the correct weave along with fresh door panels, a new dash pad, and even proper blue sun visors. The Falcon didn't necessarily include a center console, and many prefer the purposeful look of this car, which uses a column shifter for the C4 3-speed automatic transmission. The gauges are basic, but they all work, and the original AM radio remains in place. It's extremely clean and the lack of modifications suggests that someone cared about making this one right rather than customizing it to their tastes. We always appreciate that. The steering wheel is particularly nice, with a bright chrome horn ring and button that add a little flash to the utilitarian passenger compartment. There's also a new mat and spare tire cover, which give the trunk a factory-correct look. The 302 cubic inch V8 nestled between the shock towers looks awfully familiar, doesn't it? It does a great impersonation of the original 260 and brings a few extra horsepower. It's not over-dressed, but with a chrome air cleaner and Ford Blue valve covers, it looks nice enough that you can tell it's been loved. Thanks to a 4-barrel carburetor, it makes great power and a wonderful V8 soundtrack, moving the lightweight Falcon easily. A Ford C4 3-speed automatic transmission can take the abuse and delivers better entertainment than you'd expect: just stomp and steer and this little car rears up and goes! Out back, there's a street-friendly 8-inch rear end, plus a lot of new suspension components, including the entire front end. Extremely well finished, work like this is common on cars costing tens of thousands of dollars more, but with this car you get all the performance of a Mustang combined with a unique shape that has aged particularly well. Blending economy, performance, and style, the Falcon really was a do-it-all kind of car. You could outfit it to suit your tastes, and apparently someone want this to be a slick little sleeper that was comfortable for cross-country jaunts. You could paint it some flashy color, but the silvery blue finish on it today is far more interesting, don't you think? The tidy hardtop bodywork was treated to a makeover that gives it the look of a -scale Galaxie and the detailing on the fenders and through the quarter panels is quite good. Gaps and panel alignment are decent and the year-old paint shines up beautifully thanks to modern materials. And this was no stripped-down base model, either, and as a result it's dressed up with plenty of jewelry, ranging from the arrow-shaped side trim to the beautifully sculpted bumper that frames the taillights, to the neat little "bombsight" fender ornaments up front. Nothing was modified or deleted, once again suggesting that someone restored this car because they loved it, not because they were trying to make money from it. Light blue bucket seats give the stylish interior a far more upscale look than you'd expect from Ford's economy car. The pleated seat covers look fresh and flank a correct center console with bright lid, so there's a bit of contrast in the otherwise all-blue interior. Simple door panels recall just a touch of the 1950s with their shiny materials and lots of polished trim. The familiar instrument panel is in decent original condition and there's a modern tach down low on the B&M shifter, as well as a set of auxiliary dials under the dash. The factory-issued AM radio is long gone, replaced by a later AM/FM/cassette head unit, but that's OK because this car was built to cruise. The trunk is nicely detailed as well, and includes a reproduction plaid mat, a vintage spare tire, and the remote-mounted battery. Stuffing a 302 cubic inch V8 in a lightweight car works really well; just ask Carroll Shelby. In this Falcon, it makes for entertaining acceleration around town and it's a lot of fun to play with that flexible torque curve on the street. An open-element air cleaner from Edelbrock adds a racy look, with matching finned valve covers that aren't exactly stock but look pretty darned cool. Ford Blue engine enamel pops against the satin black engine bay, and you can see that a lot of the work is quite fresh and the sucker runs great. Long-tube headers with cut-outs sound awesome, but the newer stock exhaust makes for mellow cruising speeds. A quick-shifting automatic transmission and highway-friendly gears make it mild-mannered on the open road and they've thoughtfully added a set of subframe connectors to reinforce the structure. A slightly lowered stance and chrome wheels with baby moon hubcaps give it just a bit of attitude, and it rides on fat BFGoodrich T/A radials all around. This is a neat little car that shows quite well and runs great. Falcons are seeing some new-found appreciation these days, and I wouldn't expect nice ones like this to remain affordable forever. You can't go wrong with an all-black paint scheme: It helps the car's chrome accents stand out. The paint on this particular Falcon is a few years old so it's not perfect but it will certainly gain plenty of attention at the local car show or filling up at the pump. The chrome and other trim pieces have all been cared for very well. There's just enough flash on this well-equipped Falcon Futura to give flair without being too brash. Another bright spot is actually four spots: the car's custom Roadmaster wheels. They feature a three-blade retainer that spins on, to hold the center cap in place. The clean, polished alloy rims are fitted with grippy Falken tires in a staggered setup: 195/60R15 up front, 215/60R15 on the drive wheels. Opening the door is like unbuttoning and pulling open the lapel of your suit to reveal a sharp, colorful lining: The code 37 turquoise interior is calm and beautiful, a perfect reminder of the 1960s you may have forgotten. The door panels, carpeting and vinyl upholstery match the dashboard, a piece that's a shining testament to '60s style all the way across. The fuel and temperature gauges on either side of the horizontal speedometer recall the car's rocket-style taillights. An AM radio is nestled right in the middle of that dash, and a subtle aftermarket tachometer hangs below. There's no shifter interfering with your sliding your partner closer to you across those bench seats, but that doesn't mean you have to give up the three-pedal fun. This Falcon shifts through a three-on-the-tree manual transmission. Speaking of which, let's pop the hood. In the engine bay you'll see the same bright chrome and black theme as the exterior. Ford's venerable 289 V8 is neatly topped with an Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor, as well as a chrome air filter. Stock exhaust manifolds lead out to twin chrome exhaust tips in back. This one packs a rumbling 347 cubic inch stroker motor, a 4-speed, and a restoration that you couldn't even get close to duplicating for the asking price. Never mind that it runs like an early Mustang and looks cool, this is a ton of car for the money. This bright red hardtop is one nice little sleeper. The Falcon was conservative, yes, but it was also rugged, reliable, and had great familial DNA that made it look like a scale Fairlane. The Rangoon Red paint makes it a flashy machine that gets a lot of attention out on the road, and the quality of the work belies the price tag because it looks pretty darned good. It's not perfect, of course, but the shine is far better than 1960s paint tech would deliver, and the car was put together the way the factory would have done it, so it feels solid going down the road. Lots of bright trim ties in with the other Ford products of the era, including the sweeping side trim with a contrasting black insert and "Sprint" script on the front fenders. Round taillights continue Ford's fascination with "jet age" styling, and nothing but the relatively fat rear tires give away this little Falcon's secret. From behind the wheel, it's easy to see where the Mustang gets its handsome good looks, as the Falcon includes a handsome and unique gray and red interior. Looking far more upscale than you'd expect, the seats wear fresh covers front and rear and the doors have been upholstered to match, so it all looks very period-correct. The dash should look familiar to anyone who's driven a Ford of this vintage, with a wide speedometer flanked by round pods with auxiliary gauges inside. This one also sports a cool Stewart-Warner tach on the steering column and a set of modern auxiliary gauges underneath the dash, along with a handsome color-matched steering wheel and a Hurst cue ball shifter for the 4-speed gearbox. The factory AM radio remains in the dash, and it's kind of nice to see it there instead of the ubiquitous modern head unit. In back, there's a trunk that's more spacious than you'd expect, and it has been fully carpeted just like the interior. The door tag says this one originally came with an F-code 260, so it's a real V8 car, but this one is packing nearly 100 extra cubes in the form of a stroked 302 punched out to 347 cubic inches. It's a very strong runner thanks to a big Holley 4-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum heads, and an MSD ignition system. Other details include the Falcon-logo finned valve covers with matching air cleaner. Long-tube headers dump into a fresh dual exhaust system that sounds spectacular. The rest of the chassis is in good order with tubular front A-arms and rack-and-pinion steering, subframe connectors to reinforce the tub, and heavy-duty Caltrac traction bars out back. Out back, it carries 3.80 gears with a limited slip inside a 9-inch housing and there's a disc brake at all four corners. Vintage-looking Torque Thrust wheels are exactly the right choice and wear staggered 165/80/15 front and 235/55/16 rear performance radials. A lot of V8 performance in a great-looking package, this Falcon clearly cost more than the asking price to build. A bargain back then and an even bigger one today.
