It has its original engine, and it runs great - with a recent engine-out servicing and re-seal with receipts. . That is a handsome car, with wire wheels, factory air conditioning, 4.2 litre 6 cylinder overhead cam engine, Borg Warner automatic transmission, 4 wheel disc brakes, and independent front and rear suspension. . The Red leather interior is a perfect color choice against the silver exterior. . Jaguar got the styling just right! . Pretty! Here it is in operation! . Very pretty indeed! . Very nice chromium plating up front! . Sharp! . Its a series 2 Jaguar, from the series built from 1968 to 1970, with 6 cylinder engine and open headlights. . Chrome wire wheels really make the car! and notice how nice these wheels are, the chrome is excellent. . Good California undercarriage, with very recent dual exhausts from front to back. we'll see more of that in the undercarriage photos. . Very nice red leather interior. . Beautiful wood rimmed steering wheel, extremely clean dash, brilliant instruments. . Nice! . The leather is in good shape. I noted some wear on the center console pad. . The "+2" section . very nice. . Nice doorpanel and door edge. . Clean rear shelf . Nice wire wheel spare . Nice spare floor, rust - free, with jack pouch. . Jack and handle with pouch. . There's the 4.2 litre Engine, the original engine for this car. Extensive recent service. . Twin Stromberg-Zenith Carburettors, spelled the English way! . Nicely porcelainized exhaust manifolds. This view shows the air compressor. The A/C is all hooked up but does not blow cold. . This is a race-bred machine to be sure. . Wow! . There's the engine number - 7R36008-9, which tells us it was a 9 to 1 compression ratio engine. This engine is still in the car. . 1R40980BW is the car number, and it tells us this is a Left Drive 2+2 coupe, with Borg Warner automatic transmission. there is also a vin tag on the driver's windshield post that matches. The title is correct and matches the car. The paperwork is clean and the car will export with no problem. . Here's the VIN tag on the left windshield pillar, which matches the data plate and the title. , . Title VIN matches the Car VIN. . . The front subframe must have been changed, this is from an earlier car. . Here's the original owner, from Beverly Hills, CA. . Original warranty / Service book . Original Owner's manual . And plastic Jaguar document folio. . The paint job is an older one, and it looks like there are some flat spots, most notably on the roof and on the left front fender, shown below. . Super solid floors and rocker panels. . I put a magnet to the lower portion of the body, and the magnet sticks . This car has great history and documentation, and has only 625 actual miles since new. The original owner of this car was James Patin of Anaheim, California. He was an avid collector, owning over 150 cars in his lifetime. The purchase of this Jaguar came about through a horse-trade with Bill Harrah of Las Vegas casino fame, who wanted a 1922 Leach Touring for his collection, which Mr Patin happened to own. Mr Patin agreed to the sale in exchange for cash and the purchase of a brand new 1973 Jaguar V12 XKE, which Mr Harrah arranged through Brentwood Motors in Santa Monica in December of 1973. This car had 99 miles on the odometer at time of delivery. Mr Patin picked up the car, showed it to some friends, and then parked it in his collection with 162 miles on the clock. It resided there until 2002, when Glenn Bowers purchased the car from Mr Patin. Since the Jag had not been started since 1973, Mr Bowers removed the fuel tank and had it boiled out and coated inside, along with removing all four carbs and cleaning the float bowls, needles, and seats. Once re-installed, the car fired easily and idled smoothly. The car was 100% as it had been left in 1973, exactly 30 years prior. Mr Bowers only put five miles on the car, since it had the original tires on it. He then sold the car to the current owner in May of 2007. A Jaguar specialty shop performed some necessary work on the vehicle before it was shipped to Pennsylvania, where it was housed in a climate-controlled garage and driven sparingly. He then had the car shipped to his California home in 2012 with only 213 miles on the clock. The Jag then had an extensive service by Hornburg Jaguar, including a complete ignition system overhaul, carbs rebuilt, a new clutch, and new ball joints. The total bill was just over $18,000. The owner wanted to actually drive and enjoy the car in California, and once the work was completed it was ready to enjoy. It is the original engine to this car - the engine number 100.980.12.000637 is listed on the original owner's book as the original delivery motor, and we verified the number on the engine itself! . . A/C compressor on the right side, recently upgraded to R-134 refrigerant and working nicely! . On the left side are the air compressor, power steering reservoir, and hydraulic system reservoir. . . Spectacular wood trimmed dashboard, with tachometer and instruments and warning lights, all of which work properly! . Inviting leather seats and beautiful original wool carpeting! The interior is all original with exception of the driver's seat which was redone in the correct leather. This shows how nicely the car has been treated throughout its life! . The dashboard is a work of modern art! . Amazingly nice! Note the original Becker radio is included with the car. . Note the glovebox courtesy lamp works! . The knob on the left controls the temperature for the A/C system, and the 3 levers direct the air and the fan speed. The switch above is for the cowl vent - which is the only thing on the car that I found didn't work. . Rear seat in the actual original leather! The seat is hydraulically adjustable using a switch on the door, and it does work! . Early versions of the MB 600 had power door closers, which pulled the door completely closed. Here are the stamps in the owner book - starting, of course, with 300 test miles at the Daimler-Benz Werk Sindlefingen! Then we see it at Mercedes-Benz of San Diego. . As the mileage increases, service is recorded . Service at Heinz Gietz Autohaus, inc during the 1970's . The 1990's, at German Motors . And up through the present at German Motors. The current owner put almost 50,000 miles on this car since purchasing it in the late 1980's, and he's kept it in tip-top shape and in the care of expert professionals. . If I were to identify a weakness in this fabulous car, it might be the paint, which was done in 1989. There are a few places that show checking on the hood, roof, and rear deck surround. There are some stone chips at the very front of the car. They don't show up in the photos but they're there. Show judges would notice, but most people would not. . . The book "600- Der Grosse Mercedes" by Wiedmaier & Knetsch talked about the Car and Driver comparison test. "Car and Driver Magazine tested 6 cars in 1965 - the Mercedes 600, Cadillac, Lincoln, Rolls-Royce, Imperial, and Jaguar.
