As a specialist in 107 body Mercedes, we are always looking for premium quality examples. We recently purchased three cars from an estate in Palm Beach where the owner had passed away. This beautiful, low miles, 560SL was the third of the three cars we purchased. While it does not have any service history, we do have it's Carfax history. This Mercedes spend its entire life in California until the beginning of 2016 when it was purchased by the previous owner. This 560SL is in immaculate condition. It is completely rust free, has an absolutely gorgeous body, beautiful chrome, and a nearly perfect convertible top. Inside the gray leather is all original, has no seat dye, and is in highly impressive condition. This is an absolutely stunning looking car. We believe the paint is all original and there are virtually no flaws or imperfections on the body. The wheels have a Chrome Mercedes star on the center caps. It is highlighted by a two-tone black over grey painted pin stripe. The black convertible top is virtually flawless and is believed to be original. The hard top comes with a car and it is in the same condition as the body. Inside the gray leather is beautiful. There are no cracks or warping on the dash and the wood is equally impressive. Every instrument works, and every light on the instrument panel works. This car still retains its original Becker radio and it's working as it should. Since I had so many questions asking if the car is running I had someone from Mercedes come by put some fresh gas in the intake and it started right up and runs great!! 1988 Mercedes Benz 560SL Convertible 2 Owner Car with ONLY 55K Original Miles!! Clean Car Fax! This car has been in storage for about 10 year and was just removed to put up for sale. The car is not road ready its been sitting untouched, the gas is bad and should be gone over. The exterior is stunning for its age and looks to be all original. The paint looks to be original, its glossy and smooth as can be a few minor flaws! The interior is also stunning for a 30 year old car and mostly original except for a stereo upgrade before it was put in storage. Under the hood the car is un molested and original. The underside of the car is clean and solid with no signs of any major rust. I did remove the hard top and the soft top is there and it appears original and needs replacing. The car also has chrome wheels that need rechroming. Due to the fuilds being 10 years old I did not want attempt starting the car using the gas in the car and clogging up the fuel injection with any crappy fuel. I did disconnect the fuel pump, had fresh fuel put in the intake, and put a jump on the battery and the motor started right up and ran beautiful no problem with a touch of the key. Like any 30 year car the are a few exterior flaws but all minor and the interior also has some wear but very little. This car with this milage done is worth $20k to $30k I'm selling the car as-is for a faction of that so don't wait to bid it will sell fast! The car has a mean stance thanks to a set of H&R lowering springs and sporty original 18" AMG Wheels with brand new tires. The interior is in very nice original condition all around. The dash and door panels are in very nice condition with zero cracks or damage to be noted anywhere. The creme beige leather seats are all in very good condition and look great for over 100k, which shows the quality of leather used in this car. All wood grain is in excellent condition with absolutely no cracks, and only some waviness on shifter surround. The carpets are all very nice are not worn or damaged. The car also still has OEM Mercedes floor mats. All dials and controls function as they should, power windows and antenna also are fully functional. The sound system is also very nice with the Premium Alpine sound system. All lights, gauges switches, and accessories work as they should. The trunk compartment is very clean and does have the original jack, tools, and the original spare tire and wheel. This car is all there and in excellent shape with all functions and accessories working as they should. Mechanically, this SEC runs GREAT! I have owned nearly 20 80's and 90's era Mercedes vehicles, and this car is definitely in the top tier! This car has all of its recent service as well as special attention to problematic items like the hydraulic suspension, steering box, valve covers and automatic seat belt guides! The car has also been lowered all the way around via aftermarket springs to improve handling and give the car a more "aggressive" look.The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. The V8 engine is very quick and responsive. It is reliable, easy to fix, and parts are readily available. The 5.6L V8 has been Mercedes workhorse engine for nearly 30 years, so you know it is just plain reliable. The suspension is very tight and feels solid even at autobahn speeds above 90mph, and is claimed to have a top speed of 156 MPH!The car is tight and right as many other even lower mileage cars are, with no leaks or current mechanical issues. Nearly $3000 was just spent bringing the car back up to snuff including multiple seals replaced, new lower oil pan, new power steering box, new lines to hydraulic system in rear, new flex discs in drive line, complete inspection and repair of climate control system, inspection of brakes and components, and new transmission cooler lines. At least 10 hours of seat time has been recorded behind the wheel and the car was driven back across the Mojave Desert from CA to AZ where we are located. For people who have learned from experience to buy all the integrity they can get.” Backgrounder: Originally designed by Bruno Sacco, the Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of flagship vehicles manufactured by the German automotive brand Mercedes Benz. Premiering in September 1979 as the successor to the earlier W116 line, the W126 was the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name referring to Sonderklasse or "special class." The W126 was initially offered in straight-6, V8, and turbo diesel sedan models. In September 1981, 2-door coupe versions (C126) of the W126 were introduced. The W126 S-Class debuted a new Mercedes-Benz design style which was subsequently used on other vehicles in the company's lineup. The W126 line also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations, including the first seatbelt pretensioners. By 1986-87, the United States economy was doing extremely well, and consumers were spending money freely on luxury items. 1986 was a record sales year for virtually all luxury carmakers foreign and domestic, including Mercedes. Honda’s Acura division was started up with great success, and Lincoln and Cadillac found the most new buyers. Since economy themes in advertising had become passé and power and modern looks had been established, it was time to focus on competitors. But very discreetly. It’s interesting to note how advertisements in the late 1980s took on a more genteel upscale feel to match the good times. Luxury cars were a much easier sell now, so far less data and text was deemed necessary. Traditional large American luxury cars were targeted. The subtle advertising theme was to establish an S-class as a better choice than “overbearing” luxury cars saddled with “bulk and ostentation”. Copywriters may have had Honda’s upstart Acura luxury division in mind when creating the advertising text for 1987. Although Acuras had only been on the market for one year, their success could not be ignored. Readers were reminded of Mercedes-Benz’s 100-year heritage, tradition and pedigree which Acura (or any other Japanese manufacturer) could not possibly match. Tiny 1-liter-engine cars and motorcycles were Honda’s heritage – not very fitting for a luxury brand to tout. Mercedes ads began to feature more close-up pictures of their classic hood ornaments and grilles than ever. “You drive the automobile that pioneered ABS and SRS. But never has pioneered an onboard electronic gizmo”, proclaims a 1988 advertisement. Buyers were still reassured, in classic tradition, that they were buying a car of the highest engineering values. History was also touched on by, “S-class. For people who have learned from experience to buy all the integrity they can get.” And, “…but the greatest comfort of the S-class may ultimately be a purely emotional one; the absolute reassurance of absolute integrity.” Cleverly written, these may have been effective in swaying buyers away from Japanese and other luxury brands.
