Our number one focus has always been our customers. What started out as a hobby for owner Roy Cats, quickly turned into a successful business venture as he helped many of his friends find the car of their dreams. By the time 2002 rolled around, Roy was almost too busy to partake in the hobby side of things as helping the people he met along the way buy and sell their cars quickly became a full time gig. Cats Exotics specializes not only in Lamborghinis but in all types of cars from Exotics, to Luxury cars, to Muscle cars, to Rare collectibles. Being car people first and business people second, we have been able to cultivate a customer base that we never take for granted and we focus on building long lasting, trusting relationships with all of our clients. As Roy always says, “It’s easier to keep a customer than gain a new one.” Since we are a family business, we try to never lose sight of the important things in life and do our best to enjoy the cars as much as we also make a business out of selling them. Whether it is a trade-in, consignment, brokering service, or simply just a purchase from our inventory we treat every customer the same whether it is a $500 car part or a $500,000 Supercar. With every inquiry and every purchase we invite you to become part of our passion and part of our family. We recently opened a brand new Showroom facility totaling over 20,000 square feet in July 2011 and haven’t looked back since. This is a rare Blue Chip Muscle car that will be the perfect addition to your collection. There are many more pictures including the marti report on our website please click on any image in the black area of this listing to be taken to that page. We have many more photographs of this car, please click on any image to be taken to our full-size image list! The introduction of the Cougar finally gave Mercury its own "pony car". Slotted between the Ford Mustang and the Ford Thunderbird, the Cougar would be the performance icon and eventually the icon for the Mercury name for several decades. The Cougar was available in two models (base and XR-7) and only came in one body style (a two-door hardtop). Engine choices ranged from the 200 hp 289 in3 two-barrel V8 to the 335 hp 390 in four-barrel V8. A notable performance package called the GT was available on both the base and XR-7 Cougars. This included the 390 in V8, as well as a performance handling package and other performance enhancements. The 1967 Cougar, with the internal code T-7, went on sale September 30, 1966. It was based on the 1967 refaced first-generation Mustang, but with a 3-inch-longer wheelbase and new sheet metal. A full-width divided grille with hidden headlamps and vertical bars defined the front fascia—it was sometimes called the electric shaver grille. At the rear, a similar treatment saw the license plate surrounded on both sides with vertically slatted grillework concealing taillights (with sequential turn signals), a styling touch taken from the Thunderbird. A deliberate effort was made to give the car a more "European" flavor than the Mustang, at least to American buyers' eyes. Aside from the base model and the luxurious XR-7, only one performance package was available for either model: the sporty GT. The XR-7 model brought a simulated wood-grained dashboard with a full set of black-faced competition instruments and toggle switches, an overhead console, a T-type center automatic transmission shifter (if equipped with the optional Merc-O-Matic transmission), and leather/vinyl upholstery. This was the only generation with covered headlights, which were deployed using a vacuum canister system that kept the doors down when a vacuum condition existed in the lines, provided by the engine when it was running. If a loss of vacuum occurred, the doors would retract up so that the headlights were visible if the system should fail. Mercury was serious about the Cougar being the performance icon for the company. The XR7-G, named for Mercury road racer Dan Gurney, came with all sorts of performance add-ons, including a hood scoop, Lucas fog lamps, and hood pins. Engine selection was limited only to the 302, 390, and 428 V8. A total of 619 XR7-Gs were produced, and only 14 Gs were produced with the 428 CJ. The 7.0-L GT-E package was available on both the standard and XR-7 Cougars and came with the 427 V8. The 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air was available in limited numbers on the GT-E beginning 1 April 1968. Conservatively rated at 335 hp, the 428 Cobra Jet could produce much more from the factory. A total of 394 GT-Es were produced, 357 with the 427 and 37 with the 428. The GT-E came with power front disc brakes as standard. The Eliminator performance package appeared for the first time in 1969. A 351-in3 four-barrel Windsor V8 was standard under the hood, with the 390 four-barrel V8, the 428CJ and the Boss 302 available as options. The Eliminator also featured a blacked-out grille, special side stripes, front and rear spoilers, an optional Ram Air induction system, a full gauge package including tachometer, upgraded "Decor" interior trim, special high-back bucket seats, rally wheels, raised white letter tires and a performance-tuned suspension and handling package. It also came in a variety of vibrant colors, such as White, Bright Blue Metallic, Competition Orange, and Bright Yellow. Only two Cougars were produced with the Boss 429 V8, making them the rarest Cougars ever built. Both were factory drag cars, built for "Fast Eddie" Schartman and "Dyno" Don Nicholson. In 1970, the upgraded "Décor" interior and styled steel wheels, standard '69 Eliminator equipment, were moved to the options list for the 1970 Eliminator. No Eliminator convertibles were factory produced in either 1969 or 1970. Our Ebay Policies: Significant Cars is one of the largest Collector Car Brokers and Dealers in the Country. This 1973 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible gives you all of this with V8 power and a value price. The Cougar was built to be a Mustang in a dinner jacket, and this red exterior convertible, with a refined white convertible top, just seems to deliver on this sporty sophistication. This car has spent a life as a cherished driver, so you can see evidence of a nice restoration to the paint and the body to keep the panels super straight. Ford/Mercury people know the significance of the 1973 Cougar. The following year would switch platforms where the Cougar would grow in size, weight, and there was no convertible option. The Cougar was no longer the Mustang's upscale companion, which is why a final-year XR7 convertible has a forever-coveted place in vintage car crowds. Besides, there's just something exceptionally cool about cruising around in a Mercury where the full bright trim (from the waterfall grille to the stylized bumper/taillight combo) is complete and pristine. The XR7 package was the top of the line for the Cougar, so you can certainly expect this one to be loaded. It starts with the high back bucket seats that are as virginal white as the power folding roof. And you can drive with the top down much further into the warm seasons thanks to ice cold air conditioning. The original AM/FM radio is still in place, but it also has an iPod hookup so you can look retro while still listening to modern tunes. Those who have driven Mustangs from this era will find something familiar about the layout of this Cougar, except there's an added premium feel. For example, you still have the same sporty sloping center console and dashboard setup, but now there's more wood trim and a substantially larger gauge package with tachometer. Open the hood and you'll see an engine bay that looks factory-fresh. The first thing you'll notice is the big blue air cleaner on the Cleveland 351 V8 motor that still has its original-style tags. Often this would have been replaced with a chrome unit, but that wouldn't be right on the last of the cool Mercury cats. You might love the power and rumble this motor makes, but that's far from the whole story. This has a three-speed automatic transmission that connected to a Ford 9-inch rear end running a 2.75 ratio. So this one is set up for all-day highway cruising whenever you want. Add in power steering and front disc brakes, and this is the convertible you won't hesitate to drive any day of the week. This is a cool XR7 that fires right up, and is eager for a drive whenever you're ready. Best of all, you can pick up this sharp, valued vintage convertible today for less than the price of any new droptop. If you are the high bidder and unable to inspect said vehicle before auction close, you or an agent will have (7) days to inspect said vehicle after the close of auction. I encourage a physical inspection strongly to avoid any misunderstandings or representations. All used vehicles should be assumed to have some degree of wear. No vehicle is perfect to everyone. Each vehicle has its strengths, styles, tendencies and shortcomings. Therefore, despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or previous owner’s diligence in care. It is for this reason that all vehicles are sold ”WHERE/IS, AS/IS”. We have described the above mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability. However, with all classic and exotic vehicles, the condition is subjective. Please be advised that no oral or written statements concerning any vehicle constitutes a representation or warranty of the condition of the said vehicle. INDUSTRY UNIQUE RETURN POLICY: If for any reason you receive your vehicle and have buyer’s remorse, are not happy with the vehicle or just don’t want it for any reason we will purchase the car back from you. We must be notified in writing of your decision to return the vehicle within seven (7) days of your receipt of said vehicle. The vehicle may not have more than 75 additional miles on the odometer from the time it left our possession and be returned in the same condition that it left. You WILL be responsible for a restocking fee that will equal 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, no exceptions. You will also be responsible for shipping the vehicle back to our shop at your expense. Copyright © 1999-2015 MotoeXotica. All Rights Reserved. Kit car? Street rod? Fox-body custom? Whatever you might be building or modifying, if you want to put a muscular small block in it, you should seriously consider one of Ford Racing's 385 hp, 351 c.i.d. GT-40 crate engines. They're built around Ford's well-known 5.8L Sportsman II block, fitted out with forged pistons and a single-plane "Victor Jr." intake manifold, plus high-flowing, race-proven GT-40 aluminum cylinders heads, complete with the GT-40 valvetrain package. The compression ratio is an easy-to-live-with 9.0:1, but the engines' output is still hefty. With headers and a 780 cfm Holley (both sold separately), they crank out an impressive 385 hp at 5,500 rpm, with 377 ft.-lbs. of torque. That's more than enough to motivate just about any street rod, hot rod, custom car, or truck in a big way. The engines come with oil and water pumps, a dual-sump oil pan, a billet steel flywheel, and a high-performance harmonic balancer.WarrantySome parts are not legal for sale or use in California on any pollution-controlled motor vehicles Pony car & Hot Rod lovers delight ,This car was billed as the "Gentlemen's Muscle Car" or a "Muscle Car in a Sports Jacket" because it was more luxurious and refined than its' Mustang stable mate. This 72 Cougar is ready to rumble,This fine Cougar has received new life from a Genuine 351 Ford Crate Motor,Fuel Pumped in by an external electric fuel pump, Jet coated header's feed exhaust through two magna flow mufflers and out through aluminum 2 3/4 inch one piece H pipes with oval tips, ,Electric fans provide cooling air through a Griffin four row radiator ,with an Edelbrock Victor Jr. aluminum high rise manifold fed fuel via Holly 670 CFM Street Avenger four barrel carb.Pump gas pumped in by an external electric fuel pump ,Power grounded by a Dominator Jr.Ford AOD tranny , through a custom balanced Aluminum Drive line ,Four good 15 inch tires on spiffy torque aluminum wheels complete the power distribution package.Out side , Ford produced the first sequential turn signals and rear illumination that add a very distinctive element to your turning and breaking alert system's .Paint shines as if new,Bikini top looks fine , no dents or rips outside or in.Interior looks as if never used.Speaker grills missing off of door panels but available .Front Bumper replaced ,Triple Chrome ,With a matching set wheels . Please take this into consideration when inquiring.***I have owned this car sense 6/10/2001,Previous history not researched , but this Cougar has all the look of a one owner garage kept survivor. My Cougar is listed with a reserve that's substantially lower than our very recent appraisal, also listed else ware ,reserve the right to end auction early . Wheelbase 112.0 in (2,845 mm) For 1971, the Cougar was restyled, weighed less, and had only a one-inch-longer wheelbase than its predecessors (112 vs. 111 - which was similar to GM's intermediate-sized two-door models, such as the Olds Cutlass). The front end now featured four exposed headlights; the disappearing headlights were eliminated. The center grille piece was now larger, sharing its appearance with the 1971 Mercury Cyclone. The rear featured a semifastback with a " flying buttress" sail-panel. The convertible returned, as did the XR-7 and the GT package. The Eliminator package was dropped, but the Ram Air option remained. The engine lineup was revised for 1971, as well. Now only three engines were offered—the standard 240 hp (179 kW) 351 Windsor two-barrel V8, the 285 hp (213 kW) 351 Cleveland four-barrel V8, and the 370 hp (276 kW) 429 Cobra Jet four-barrel V8. 1971-1973 Mercury Cougar XR7 By 1972, the climate had begun to change as the muscle car era ended. No longer able to use gross power numbers, the manufacturers had to use net power figures, which dropped the once-mighty figures down substantially. Engines were shuffled around a bit with the 429 engine option no longer available. They were now the standard 163 hp (122 kW) 351 Cleveland two-barrel V8, or the 266 hp (198 kW) 351C four-barrel Cobra Jet V8. Other than that, the Cougar remained a carryover from 1971. Only minor trim details were changed in 1972. The big-block engines were gone for 1972 and 1973. The days of performance-oriented muscle cars were coming to an end. Aside from minor grille and taillight changes, 1973 would be largely a carryover year for the Cougar, but it would mark the last year of the Mustang-based Cougar, and the end of Cougar convertibles. (A light blue/white Cougar XR-7 convertible was actually the "last" convertible built by Ford Motor Company.) An automatic transmission and power front disc brakes became standard, though a 4-speed manual transmission was still available as a rarely ordered option. Many changes were scheduled for the 1973 models. Power figures continued to change, as new federal/ EPA regulations began their stranglehold on the V8 engines. The new figures continued to fluctuate, but engine options remained unchanged from 1972. The standard engine continued to be the 168 hp (125 kW) 351 Cleveland two-barrel V8. Optional was the 264 hp (197 kW) 351 Cobra Jet V8. The following years changed to the Thunderbird/Torino chassis. Additionally, an arguably little known trim style and certain mandatory options (e.g. hardtop) of Cougar was the "Bronze Age" edition made by Mercury in 1973 (also made for the models: Mercury Monterey, Mercury Montego MX, and Mercury Comet of that year). [8] [9] While it was marketed primarily in copper metallic colors, [10] it was also available in 6 other colors: ivy glamour metallic, green metallic, medium brown metallic, saddle bronze, medium yellow gold and white. presents well, both body and paint are in great condition with only one minor flaw in the paint. Power top is also in nice shape. Trim is original and shows some age and use. Magnum 500 wheels and tires are new. Front windows roll up correctly, rear windows as shown could use some additional fitting to close completely. One chip found in the windshield but is not spreading and does not obscure view of the road. Interior Seats, carpeting and door panels have been redone and are in great condition. Dash, gauges and steering wheel are original. Dash is cracked. Rear panel that joins the seat to trunk area is missing and there is a visible gap with top up. Mechanical 302 V8 engine was rebuilt at the time of restoration and sounds great through duel Flowmaster mufflers. Transmission, brakes and steering all work well. At lower RPMs, engine will “surge” suspect that throttle linkage needs adjustment. Drivers side door interior handle is not working. This is a nice example of a first-year Cougar convertible, Ford’s other pony car. With fresh paint and new interior this car gets a lot of attention. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. 1983 Mercury Cougar Base / LS 2-Door 3.8L This car for it's age is really clean of heavy rust surface rust has been seen. Under the hood are rough areas of surface rust. The dent on the right side behind the door is a minor repair. The door jams are solid, trunk lid all around the drip channel where the rubber seal is located. Solid int. floor trunk floor all the panels around outside ext. of the car look to be solid. All lights int. ext. headlights turns signals brake lights running light and dash lights are in working order. Ac blows cold when charged, fan blows smooth with low to high control switch. The heat work also.. The dash is perfect, no cracks. The whole dash looks brand new. The sun visors are stuck place lack of use I guess. Headliner and sun visors are little discolored. The center console has piece of sheet metal rising up on the corners. The seats in the front are little dirty could use a steam cleaning. The back seat looks to be clean no rips in int. seats. The seat belt sleeves are crack or half missing. Driver side door int. panel is a dirty. Windows crank up and down tight and solid. No water leaks. Doors do not hang they both close with ease. Trunk closes nicely. Trunk light works. Spare tire good shape holding air. Car and trunk smells clean. New pin stripe. The engine is a V6 3.8l that looks to have everything original. Never saw any smoke coming out of the tail pipe at start up or while idling or driving it. I have never checked the compression. Transmission shifts fine brakes work fine. The engine has always had a rough idle sometimes hard to start. We did find fuel leaking under the carb. I replaced the gaskets and base plate. Replaced fuel filter, accelerator pump, valve cover gaskets, coil, voltage regulator, wind shield motor, spark plugs repaired broken vacuum hoses, changed oil & filter. I worked on it trying to get to idle smoother but never could figure it out. I have drove the car it drives smooth and shifts smooth. I have own the car for a year now. I wanted a project car to play around with. I believe was either carb. or stretched timing chain, I'm know expert. The engine will need some work most likely something simple that I'm over looking. The car is really clean and well kept for it's age. 83 Cougars are hard to find. Hopefully someone will give this car a new home. I don't see anything leaking from under the car like anti freeze, oil, trans. oil. Muffler is quiet, good battery, tires will need to be replaced if you want to make safe for the street. All four tires are holding air. Shocks seem to be good. All part boxes will be left in trunk so can see what was replaced. Two repair manual books included. You see the mileage from one of my pics. I'm no expert on describing cars but I'm a honest person working with what I know of this car. I'll be glad to answer any question you may have. I bought this car from a wrecker company in Sarasota,Fl where my girlfriend use to work. The title is open. A bill of sale will be given and signed to both parties.

With a unique body and interior, the Cougar is instantly recognizable, and nice ones, like this 1967 coupe, are an absolute pleasure to own and drive, especially with a sweet-running 289 under the hood. Originally painted Burgundy, this big cat now sports a bright red finish that's a lot more aggressive than the original hue, but perhaps more in tune with the performance side of the big cat's current configuration. Refinished several years ago, the paint remains in good condition, and all appearances suggest that this car was never rusty or a basket case. Instead, it appears to be a nicely maintained car that has never needed major surgery, and the factory-style panel gaps and alignment bear this out. The color isn't what it was born with but nobody can argue that bright isn't just as handsome on the upscale Cougar. The chrome is similarly nice and may be original, and the stainless fender moldings and window surrounds are still bright and shiny. The Cougar offered unique lighting, with folding headlights up front and sequential turn signals out back, and they all work properly and look awesome. Interior design in the Cougar was clearly inspired by aircraft, and it has a very cool '60s vibe that makes you think of Steve McQueen and Sean Connery movies when you're at the wheel. The front buckets have been reupholstered in black, and the vinyl is a close match to the original patterns used. The vast dashboard features round gauges with delicate markings and needles, reminiscent of the Smiths gauges found in British sports cars and the Shelby Cobra. Especially cool are the toggle switches for interior lighting and the very aircraft-like levers for the ventilation controls to the driver's left. An AM/FM/cassette stereo has been fitted in the original location right above the "garage" storage compartment, and there was no cutting, so it looks like it belongs and can be returned to original without worries. The surprisingly roomy trunk is outfitted with a plaid mat that fits well and looks right. Lift the Cougar's unique hood and you'll find what looks to be the original 289 cubic inch V8, similar to those found in cousin Mustang. It's had a nice makeover, with the usual Ford Blue paint on the engine itself, plus chrome valve covers and a cool air filter for the Edelbrock 4-barrel carb underneath. Power steering is suitable to the big Cat and the Flowmaster exhaust system sounds very healthy. It's backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and one look around underneath will convince you that this is one heck of a nice original car, because there's even proper overspray on the floors. 3.25 gears out back mean that this Cougar is your next road trip machine and beautiful 14-inch styled steel wheels wear perfectly-sized 215/70/14 BFG radials. All the performance of the Mustang, but in a more mature, luxury-oriented package, with a strong-running engine, all for less money than a comparable Ford...sounds good, doesn't it? With the same long nose, short deck styling as the Mustang, but in a slightly larger, more luxurious package, this 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 convertible offers grown-up performance for people who like a little luxury with their muscle. Of course, perks like a strong-running V8, a great color combination, and an automatic transmission only help the Cougar's case, creating a sophisticated muscle car that you can drive every day. Handsomely finished in handsome burgundy metallic paint, the Cougar's lines are clean and instantly recognizable. From the finned front grille and hidden headlights to the kick-up behind the doors, it looks powerful yet refined. It was restored a few years ago, so it's not a trailer queen anymore, but the color really works well on the stylish Cougar and only adds to the upscale look. The sheetmetal underneath is in great shape, particularly the dramatic sweeping body line that stretches from nose to tail. They didn't add any stripes or wings or scoops, which gives this car a grown-up look that should appeal to people whose fascination with boy racer looks has come and gone, which is perfectly OK. Instead of style over substance you get a car that looks great from any angle and fits in just about anywhere. All the chrome and trim has been polished up, proper Cougar badges affixed to the quarters, and the full-width taillight is in superb condition, which is a good thing because finding replacements can be tough. The bright red interior was restored fairly recently and it still looks awesome today. The seats and door panels have been restored and use correct materials and patterns, and new carpets were obviously installed not too long ago. The center console and dash pad are probably original and their condition suggests a car that has always been well-maintained and didn't spend all its life baking in the hot sun. The gauges appear to be original, so the lenses are a little cloudy, but we love the rocker switches along the top of the center stack. This car does have factory A/C, although the system has been disconnected but it's complete if you want to get it back into shape. The original AM/FM stereo radio remains in the dash, and for 1970 that was state-of-the-art in in-car entertainment. There's a black power convertible top that remains in good shape and it stows neatly under a matching red boot. Even the trunk is nicely finished with a reproduction mat and a full-sized spare tire. Power for the big cat comes from a 351 cubic inch V8, which is a perfect fit in the Cougar's engine bay and gives the car great performance without the big block weight. It's quite stock, from the original air cleaner to the large A/C compressor to the Ford Blue engine paint, and while it's not quite detailed for show, it does have a very honest look. The 351's smooth torque means that the Cougar is never caught flat-footed, making it a great choice here. Underneath, the chassis is clean and well-maintained, with a great-sounding dual exhaust system whose tips are just barely visible beneath the rear valence, again emphasizing the Cougar's subtle muscularity. The power steering system has been recently and comprehensively rebuilt and the C4 3-speed automatic transmission makes for easy cruising. An unusual set of 14-inch gray wheel covers really set off the burgundy bodywork, and the 215/70/14 radials completely fill the wheel wells. For those of us who have reached a certain age, a little luxury with your performance is definitely a good thing, and this Cougar delivers.
