I encourage inspections of the vehicle prior to bidding. I am an honest seller and will answer any and all questions to my knowledge about the vehicle. I have an extra fender and grill for the car. The vacuum lines need to be gone through and replaced, this may fix the headlight issue as they do not go up and down but this issue does not affect the drive-ability of the Toronado.All lights work, glass is in good condition, window motors are all good. The original interior still presents nicely, no rips or tears in the seats. A few minor cracks in the dash, and a split on the interior driver side arm rest. Missing an interior door handle on drivers side, but this part is available on ebay. The door does open and close because there are actually two door handles in the cars design to allow passengers from both the rear and front to exit the vehicle. Small rust spot on fender but I do have an extra fender to include in the sale. The fender has a different trim package on it but it can be filled and sanded if the buyer would like to repaint the car.Car does have original interior, including wonderbar radio that is not hooked up. The car will also need a new power antennae, as it is broken. Car could use a new paint job as the clear coat does show wear. If this were perfect I would be expecting close to 20k for it but it's not perfect.This is a factory A/C car and I believe if the vacuum lines were re-connected it would blow, however I am not a mechanic. This a rare collector car, a classic with regard to its unique styling and a limited production of only 2,453. It is unmolested and original except for replacement of rear fender extensions and glass top of the sun/moonroof assembly. The car was sold new in Beaverton, Oregon on 6-28-78 and the original papers reflect the buyer's name and address from the selling dealer Herzog Motors, Inc. , a dealer who survives to this day with 3rd generation family ownership as Herzog-Meier. This XS comes with its original paperwork including the sun/moonroof instructions and tool. More importantly, the original window sticker showing the exact options this car has. It also has a Driver Controlled Leveling System for the rear which is much like the leveling systems of later GM luxury cars. It is loaded with options including sunroof, red leather interior, 6-way power seats adjustable individually for driver and passenger, air conditioning, lamp out monitoring system, Driver's audible reminder for Low Coolant, Hi-Lo Voltage, Engine Hot and Lights On. Stereo is equipped with a built-in 8-track tape player and 25 tapes will be included with the sale, an OEM set of original red rubber mats for the flat floor in front with a matching mat for the rear seat floor ( a picture is included with this listing ). The passenger side also features a matching detachable litter basket covered in matching carpet mounted near the door opening. A regular set of red rubber mats ( not OEM ) is also included with the car. There is also a photo of the trunk to show a full sized spare tire and wheel, replacing a space saving spare tire and compact air inflation tank. The XS has a panoramic wrap around rear window, giving an unobstructed view with no pillars. It has a wheelbase of 122 inches, a total length of 227 inches, weighs in at 4,800 lbs, providing a smooth, luxurious ride. It also has an electronic system called MISAR that uses a 10 bit microprocessor, the first GM auto computer controlling ignition and production of power. It senses atmospheric pressure, engine vacuum, temperature and speed to determine optimum spark advance, enabling better fuel economy. Dash gauges also include one for the driver to visually see the amount of vacuum when driving to maintain top economy. The MISAR's first introduction was on the 1977 / 1978 Toronados. The 1978 Toronado was further improved by relocating the speed sensor to inside the distributor, from the crankcase pulley. The 1978 Toronado was the last of the big luxury Olds cars, used most of the drive train first introduced on the 1966 Toronado, the trailblazer that introduced the truly new style with front wheel drive, including torsion bar front suspension. The 1977 / 1978 Toronado featured a 403 cu. in. displacement engine, replacing the iconic 455 engine. Both power trains were also used on the GMC motorhome, the first motorhome designed and built from the ground up. These were built from 1973 until 1978 and three quarters of the 12,000 built are still running today. This XS has the 403 engine and it runs great. The Hydramatic transmission is 3 speed and provides smooth power throughout all speed ranges. The styling that enables the Toronado's uniqueness is a driver's compartment set rearward on the chassis, allowing a longer hood that is large but also innovative in that it is made of aluminum. This leaves a smaller than average trunk in the rear but fortunately so wide that even a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood can be accommodated. The remaining Toronado XS's are getting rarer and appreciating in value as the 70's generation looks for the cars they grew up with. My XS is a collector's car, a cream puff dream car that has standard GM parts, easy to maintain with plenty of room around the engine for service access. Along with the large number of GMC motorhomes surviving, many parts and service providers exist, assuring availability long into the future for Toronado owners. If you are looking for the best, take a close look at this one. It is not perfect but it very much the exceptional car that it started out to be, only it is getting to be rarer and rarer automobile. Hi, Up for sale is my 1990 olds toronado trofeo,, It has not been driven in about 3 years, it has been at outside storage,, started it up last week and drove it around for about a half hour and it got up to temp,didnt overheat was charging, has good oil pressure, ran fine shifts fine,, interior looks bad from sitting so long,,winter to summer for years with the windows up,, air conditioner used to work, but had to put a couple of cans in at the beginning of the summer and it would work all summer,,gauges work windows work sunroof works,, car would need to be trailered out because I dont know how good the tires would be after sitting so long, it has goodyear assurance tires with good tread on them but they have been sitting a long time , great parts car , only rust that I see is on the front of the hood, witch is typical for these cars,,,,battery wont hold a charge for very long ,,, no warranty and this olds is for sale as is where is

This Toronado came out of a garage in the suburbs. It fires up and runs and drive. It looks like a bit of a time capsule which is great. The body was originally Provincial White and was resprayed some years ago. The new paint looks like hell up close but from 10 feet shes almost a looker. The body is pretty damn solid all around. See all the pictures caefully. As you can see the rockers are nice and solid. The underside looks nice. Couple small hole on low spots of floorpands. The rails and mounting positions all appear solid. The car doesnt appear to have been clipped or wrecked at any point. The front bumper looks like it might be slightly off center. The bumpers are in nice shape. As you can see we have lots of extra trim for the car (pictures). We left it off so you could see the complete body. Everything in the pictures comes with the car. The windshield trim is included (we pulled off the glass). This is a perfect complete restoration candidate. Normally we would restore a car like this but we are currently finishing a Toro GT and I dont need another project. The interior is pretty complete and original. The radio works, the seat power adjustments works, 2 windows work off the switch. All glass is present and good. The speedometer works! Wipers work and so does the power anttenae. The seats have some tears as you can see. The interior smells fine. I believe this to be the original 425 that came in the car. As I mentioned it fires right up and drives. The exhaust is rusted at the headers so it's noisy right now. While we were first running it we noticed the water pump let loose in front of us. I can only assume that having the car sitting for long didnt fare well for the pump. It did build good pressure and move coolant before the pump went. fortunately, we were standing in front of it so we shut it down right away. We only fire it up to move it so it has not been overheated. We put new plugs in it and cleaned the points in the distributor and it idles just fine. I believe it has the original carb. It runs off the fuel we put in the tank so as far as we can tell the fuel tank is still in good shape. The trans seems to work just fine. We pulled ip up on our trialer when we picked it up. Recently serviced and beautifully preserved, it's a seldom-seen bit of '80s luxury that will surely be welcome at any major event. Even in the '80s you didn't see many of these running around. Sure, lots of Rivieras and Eldorados, but the car that started the whole front-wheel-drive revolution remained elusive. This one has obviously been something special for its owner since the day it came home from the dealership, and aside from service and maintenance parts, it's entirely original and extremely well preserved. The white paint shines better than any General Motors paint in 1983 has a right to. Those long doors fit well and don't sag, the hood sits flush with the handsome peaked fenders, and even the padded half-roof looks virtually new. It isn't perfect, but it is as close to perfect as General Motors was building in 1983, and if you want a car that's a slam-dunk in preservation class judging, I don't think many can be better than this Toro. Sparkling chrome, nice plastic filler panels (these always crack with age, but on this car they're almost new), and unmarked glass all speak to a car that's been cherished rather than merely owned. White with burgundy leather was a popular color combination in the '80s and it will never go out of style. As Oldsmobile's top-of-the-line machine, it was loaded with features and amenities that would equal its Cadillac siblings, and some would argue that its rarity makes it the more desirable car. The bucket seats show only the most minor signs of use, the carpets are like new, the door panels don't even have a dent from the driver's elbow, and the gauges are crisp and bright. Things like A/C, power windows and locks, power seats, a tilt wheel, and cruise control are all included and it all works! If you drove a GM car in the '80s, you'll find the AM/FM/cassette stereo familiar and it sounds decent thanks to heavy soundproofing in this luxury coupe. The back seat has probably never been used and obviously this car has always been stored indoors as there is no fading or cracking on any of the plastic parts. And the trunk is finished as original with what appears to be the original spare tire still stowed up front. Toronados used a 305 cubic inch V8 that would eventually be used throughout GM to power luxury machines like the Cadillac Brougham, and for good reason: it's smooth and torquey. Everything under the hood is original and very nicely preserved, with only routine service items being replaced over the years. It has been recently tuned up by a GM dealer so it runs superbly and the A/C was converted to R134a refrigerant. A quick detail job would make it ready for show, but it's also going to be hard to resist driving this one just because it works so well. The chassis is entirely original and shows extremely well, and even the exhaust system is still OEM. Factory wire wheel covers are surrounded by 205/75/15 whitewall radials that might be only the second set of tires this car has ever worn! Extensively documented with a build sheet, original window sticker, and service receipts, this is a fantastic survivor that's also a rather rare beast. The Toronado was most notable as the first American car since the Cord 812 to feature front-wheel drive and V-8 power as well as for its distinctive, angular styling and hidden headlamps. Prior to its introduction, the Toronado was extensively tested and developed, and it is believed that well over one million test miles were recorded to sort out the cars unorthodox front-drive layout. Such development work was necessary because the Toronados 425 cubic inch Super Rocket V-8 produced 385 horsepower, uncharted territory in the world of front-wheel drive. Its Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic was chain-driven from the engine, an ingenious solution to a difficult packaging problem. The Toronado impressed the motoring world, winning Motor Trends Car of the Year for 1966. Despite its 5,000-pound weight, the Toronado handled quite well and could reach the then noteworthy top speed of 135 miles per hour. The drive train was even used, mostly unchanged, in GMC motor homes of the 1970s.
