And in the 1930s, when the marque was tops in the luxury car market, elegant offerings like this magnificent Twelve rightfully earned the tagline 'Boss of the Road'. As smooth now as it was over seven decades ago, this defiantly massive convertible is the absolute pinnacle of pre-war automotive luxury. Enjoyed by only three owners, the car is a known, authentic example of one of the most desirable Classic Era Packards on the planet. As one of only 1,300 1937 Twelves produced, it has been awarded a National First Prize from the AACA and First Senior honors from the CCCA. And presently, it sits as a well-documented, professionally restored cruiser that's an elegant representation of some of America's best history! BODYWORK/TRIM The 15th Series was a conservatively elegant automobile that gave credibility to Packard marketeers' claims of products "as modem as an architectural design by Frank Lloyd Wright". Despite the same finely tailored lines and top-notch appointments, the brand's transition to more streamlined styling would be increasingly evident throughout the decade. But, at its core, the Twelve remained a Classic Era Packard, featuring a towering radiator shell, bullet-shaped headlights, a trademark chrome grille, flowing, skirted fenders, and a familiar 'Cormorant' hood ornament. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN In the age of 16-cylinder luxury, the Twelve was one of the fastest cars you could buy for anything less than Duesenberg money. That said; the higher-powered offerings from Cadillac, Marmon and Pierce-Arrow could probably nip a Packard Twelve in a close race. But a modified mill like this roadster's 473 cubic inch L-head V12 certainly wasn't something to readily bet against. For 1937, the Twelve's running gear underwent the most radical redesign in its history. The car's traditional 3-speed synchromesh transmission was augmented with an independent front suspension, marketed as "Safe-T-Flex", a proven hydraulic brake system and steel disk wheels. This resulted in 15th Series Packards, most prominently the top-of-the-line 12-cylinder models, being widely regarded as some of the most driver-friendly cars of the Classic Era; with the smooth, effortless engineering of vacuum-boosted brakes and a vacuum-boosted clutch being particularly well-suited to modern roads. As such, the most desirable open body styles are only rarely offered for sale. HISTORY The Coupe Roadster pictured here is a known, authentic and exclusive classic that's believed to be 1 of only 69 builds. The car still has its original firewall tag. Its history is known all the way back to the 1950s. And, for over half a century, this drop-top was the prized possession of well-known Southern California enthusiast Bob Hance, who regularly displayed it at CCCA activities and Golden State Concours d'Elegance. In 2001, when Mr. Hance decided to sell his 2-owner gem, a ground-up, professional restoration was well documented via photographs and receipts. Naturally, that restoration involved impeccable attention to detail, featuring items such as correct pinstripe patterning, a correct leather interior, correct wool carpet and a correctly detailed engine bay. And the car wears many factory accessories including: a heater, a trunk rack, a correct 30-gallon fuel gauge indicator, a factory-installed AM radio that's wired to an under-car antenna and chrome wheel covers that are complete with Packard cloisonne emblems. Since that restoration the car has seen quite a few significant milestones, achieving CCCA Senior Premier status, being recorded as a 2009 AACA National First Prize winner and completing a 900-mile CCCA CARavan. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1938 Packard Coupe Custom Rumble Seat Coupe 514 V8 C6 Ford 9" Year: 1938 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Red Mileage: 1118 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: 514 V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle info In the automotive world, some lines are rarely crossed. Certain pre-war cars like '32 Fords and '35 Chevrolets have long been hot rod fodder but the higher-end cars of the day, the CCCA Approved Classics, rarely find themselves equipped with anything but factory hardware. This 1938 Packard rumble seat coupe is one of the exceptions a full blown luxury cruiser reborn with a 514ci Ford V8 and a C6 automatic wrapped in an elegant shell. Further outfitted with amenities like a new leather interior, a 10-disc CD changer, and Vintage Air climate control, the car offers a chance to hit the highway in distinctive prewar styling without having to sacrifice any modern conveniences. If you're ready to drop jaws in a truly one-of-a-kind car, settle in and get to know this 1938 Packard coupe. Walking up to the car, there's no denying it has presence. The wheelbase is just over 120-inches about the same as a standard cab Ford F150, and, even in stock form, the coupe weighed over 4,500lbs. These cars were made of significantly heavier gauge steel than today's models, and it is a softer, more malleable material that was made before "high strength" steel was available. As a result, original panels can be restored to new condition as they were on this car. The gaps are excellent, and that mile-long hood fits as well as could be expected for something so large and complex. The body is finished in a deep shade of burgundy accented by a tasteful gold pinstripe that follows the body contours while a hand-striped flourish on the decklid completes the look. Whether stock or modified, these cars deserve the best paintwork possible and, looking around this coupe, it's obvious that absolutely no corners were cut. Trying to improve the look of a Packard is a challenge and one the builder of this coupe thankfully met with reserve. All the major styling cues remain in place with just a few subtle updates. Up front, the big Packard grille hangs proudly, topped by a classic Goddess of Speed (or lady with donut) hood ornament and flanked by headlights in body-matched housings. Below, the stock bumper was dropped in favor of slim bumperettes that clean up the front end considerably. Stainless mesh replaces the original chrome louvers on the hood while, at either side, two spare 15-inch radials covered in tan leather have taken up residence in the side mounts. The original chrome mirrors have been replaced by compact painted sport mirrors but, interestingly enough, the builder opted to leave the original the fabric insert on the roof instead of filling it. Lockable storage compartments behind both doors are now trimmed in leather with the driver side hosting a CD changer and the passenger side offering access to the battery and fuse block. Out back, the factory taillights and rumble seat are still there, accompanied by a lockable Ford gas cap and a second pair of bumperettes. One thing is for sure this car won't blend in with the others in the parking lot. In 1938, this coupe would have come equipped with ether a 356ci straight-8 or a downright massive 473 ci V12, both with long strokes and torque figures that would make a locomotive jealous. Fortunately, the builder understood this and opted for 514 cubic inches of big block Ford. The engine is a Ford Motorsport creation featuring a 2-bolt main block with a nodular iron stroker crank, H-beam connecting rods, forged aluminum dished pistons, and a mechanical roller lifter camshaft. The block is topped with a single-plane Ford Motorsport intake with aluminum SVO 'Cobra-Jet' heads at either side. Other hardware includes a multi-index timing chain, 4130 one-piece pushrods, an HD oil pump and pickup, and a dual sump oil pan. All told, the mill is good for a stated 600hp more than enough to launch this cruiser with authority and cruise well above the speed limit without visible effort. The big V8 is topped with Ford Racing rocker arm covers along with a re-purposed Buick air cleaner which has been painted to match. Up front, the belt drive spins a Sanden air conditioning compressor and power steering pump while the smoothed firewall offers crisp reflections. At the sides, a set of ceramic coated headers dump into a true dual exhaust system that exhales through Flowmaster mufflers. The engine is backed by a stout Ford C6 automatic feeding a 9-inch Ford rear that's been incorporated into an original Packard rear suspension which includes leaf springs, a Panhard rod, and even the lever-action shock absorbers that are integral with the rear sway bar. The frame is also the original Packard piece, modified up front with a fabricated K-member that includes Mustang-II style upper and lower A-arms and coil over shock absorbers. Power rack-and-pinion steering has been added, which makes this car a pleasure to wheel around at any speed, and there's a big brake disc at each corner. Look a little closer and see the giant custom-made oil pan that has been painted to match the body, and the accumulator valve for the power brakes. This was not a cut-rate build by any stretch of the imagination - someone spent a lot of time and money figuring out how to make this car safe, reliable, and 100% road-worthy. The chassis rides on a set of Billet Specialties wheels with 235/75R15 radials which offer a great ride and look surprisingly appropriate. More high-quality work and thoughtful details fill the leather-lined interior. The power-actuated seats are also from a late-model Ford product and are upholstered in a soft tan leather that is used throughout the car. The dashboard is a blend of the original burled wood metal dash and a new insert housing modern gauges from Classic Instruments. There's a lot of pin striping in here and, as part of the overall effect, it's appropriately elegant. The original handles and window cranks have been retained and still actuate the original regulators and latches. Behind the power seats, you'll find a small package shelf that houses the entertainment system controls as well as the HVAC system and vents - no unsightly modern vents on the dash, all your climate-controlled air comes from behind. That area also houses the amplifiers for the stereo, the guts of the HVAC system, and the battery, which is accessible through the passenger-side golf bag door. The rumble seat has been upholstered in matching leather and features a remote latch and a pair of leather flaps that fold out to protect the paint from passengers' elbows while they ride out back. These aren't easy cars to find in stock form. Click over to Google, image search "1938 Packard rumble seat coupe" and this car will account for about 1/3 of the first 20 results. To find a car like this and take the hot rod route seems unthinkable but, looking at the finished product, the risk definitely paid off. No matter what show you go to, this car will always be one-of-one, attracting slack-jawed stares from Packard fans and novices alike. Best of all, the car is pleasant to drive, hits highway speed effortlessly, and offers all the comforts that the modern set expects from an automobile. If you're ready to put a unique and captivating prewar car in your garage, this Packard is an excellent choice! [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1938 Packard Coupe Frame Off Built Rumble Seat Coupe 514 V8 C6 Ford 9" A/C Year: 1938 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Red Mileage: 1118 Transmission type: 3 Speed Automatic Engine: 514 V8 Interior color: Tan Vehicle info In the automotive world, some lines are rarely crossed. But, when the GTO officially kicked off the muscle car wars, it wasn't GM's impressive engineering prowess or Pontiac's hard-fought performance image that turned the car into a legend. It was the opportunity for any customer to walk in to the showroom, buy a small platform with a big engine, and, with the flip of a checkbook, deck it out with some major performance hardware. It's hard to think of any GTO that embodies that 'build-to-suit' mindset better than this professionally tweaked drop-top. With a massaged big block, a tough Muncie 4-speed and head-turning aesthetics, it's the perfect cruiser for any muscle car enthusiast who wants to prowl the show field and burn up the streets! BODYWORK/TRIM While this real-deal GTO's classic good looks originated in the mind of engineer John Z. DeLorean, it was the professionals at Tony's Muscle Cars of Sugarloaf, Pennsylvania that ensured its present appearance is top-notch in virtually ever way. Back in 1999, a meticulous mechanic, who remains friends with the car's current owner, orchestrated a body-off, rotisserie restoration that dressed original sheetmetal and original floorpans in a roster of NOS componentry. Fast forward to late 2015, when the crew at Tony's thoroughly freshened that reboot and added rich Burgundy 2-stage that perfectly contrasts the car's clean white top. And today, this razor-sharp Poncho is a first class head turner that's solid, composed and ready for prime time! ENGINE Peek under the fully functional hood and you'll find a '72-spec 455 that was completely rebuilt by the pros at Jim Taylor Engine Service of Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania. At the top of that Turquoise mill, a Ram Air IV Quadrajet bridges the gap between stainless fuel lines, a date-correct air cleaner and a port-matched Ram Air IV intake. That air/fuel mixture floods '69 Ram Air IV heads, which hide Manley valves, Comp springs, Comp roller rockers and Crane chromoly pushrods under polished covers. That valvetrain is propelled by a balanced rotating assembly, which spins TRW pistons between Clevite bearings, a Crane cam and high quality Melling lifters. That assembly gets sparked by MSD 6AL ignition, which sequences fire through a traditional points distributor and Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, jet-coated '69 Ram Air IV exhaust manifolds make quick work of spent gases. At the front of those manifolds, old school pulleys spin a rebuilt alternator and factory power steering in front of Edelbrock timing components. And a fresh brake booster, a factory-spec radiator and a familiar Melling oil pump keep the fluids flowing. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Logging few miles since the car's freshening, this goat's fully restored undercarriage is completely free of significant issues and major defects. The stout big block commands a tough Muncie 4-speed with the help of a beefy Hayes clutch. That proven gearbox grinds power to a rebuilt GM 10-bolt, which spins a posi-trac differential around friendly 3.36 gears. That drivetrain rides in a familiar F41 Sports Suspension. At the corners of that suspension, power-assisted calipers clamp drilled and slotted rotors. A custom, true-dual exhaust system connects the car's coated manifolds with welded, dual-chamber mufflers and polished stainless tips. And a quartet of U.S. Mags Ramblers spins 245/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 285/40ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. INTERIOR Swing the doors and you'll find a clean vinyl interior that feels like the perfect place to spend a warm summer evening. Front and center, a trio of bench and bucket seats includes a rare reclining throne for the car's front passenger. The 455's vitals are displayed by a deluxe Rally Gauge Cluster, which complements a customized hood tach. Like-new carpet anchors a chrome Hurst shifter inside a factory-spec console. At the sides of the car, pliable door panels mix crank windows with manual locks. In front of the driver, an optional Sport Steering Wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a restored and matted trunk anchors a full-size spare tire beneath correct decklid decals. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONThe car's original Owner's ManualThe car's original factory literatureStacks of itemized restoration receiptsPaperwork and receipts for the car's professional engine buildComponent paperworkPontiac Historic Services paperwork Fully sorted and ready to roll, this iconic GTO is an ideal blend of performance and style. Freshened in 2015, the car is an absolute pleasure to drive; and with its killer looks, it'll turn heads seven days a week. And even though the Mopar camp does a pretty good job of representing brute force, and the blue oval boys had their fair share of big engine glory, terms like "LS5", "big block" and "Super Sport" are probably some of the first sounds you remember hearing. Thankfully the significance of those terms only grows with time and education, making cars like this impressive LS5-equipped Chevelle all the more desirable. And presently, decked in classic white on black war paint, this award-winning Chevy is the product of an extensive, body-off restoration that fostered a return to factory glory and then some. If you're looking to own one of the world's most sought after muscle cars, this show stopping Super Sport is sorted, polished and ready to please! BODYWORK/TRIM Hailing from GM's acclaimed Kansas City manufacturing facility, this stunning LS5 Super Sport is the beneficiary of a high quality, body-off restoration that's so nice it schools factory survivors. After professional metalwork, which resulted in a straight and solid profile, the car's panels were layered in correct Tuxedo Black basecoat, accented with Classic White rally stripes and sealed in a thick clearcoat shell. Once that clearcoat was allotted sufficient drying time, its surfaces were sanded and buffed into a ripple-free finish that's literally as smooth as glass. And today, this top dog Chevelle sits as a spectacular piece of iconic American muscle that's detailed to better-than-new standards. Many enthusiasts believe the '70 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements that transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's '69 model into something 'great'. At the front of this sinister coupe, a familiar crossbar grille hangs a prominent "SS" emblem between a small "CHEVELLE" script, four stainless-trimmed T3s and a fresh chrome bumper. Above that bumper, a functional cowl induction hood anchors rebuilt hide-a-way wipers between new glass, traditional lanyards and pristine stainless trim. At the base of that trim, bright "SS454" badges combine with straight wheel frames, traditional door handles and a flashy chrome mirror to add visual detail to the car's liquid smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second chrome bumper centers a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a classy "Chevelle by Chevrolet" emblem and spotless stainless exhaust tips. ENGINE In 1970, if you wanted a top-of-the-line Chevelle, you had two options. You could order an LS6 car and put up with a moody, uncivilized big block that didn't like running accessories. Or you could order an LS5 car and have a nicely optioned, well-rounded performer that stomped pretty much anything on the street. Either way you'd have an awesome ride, but the irony of the situation is: LS5 cars are actually RARER than LS6 cars! Rolling out of the factory with an impressive 360 horsepower and massive 500 lb./ft. of torque, this Chevelle's correct LS5 454 is fully rebuilt and ready for show. At the top of the big engine, a functional cowl induction system forces wind into a single-snorkel air cleaner that's cinched to a familiar Quadrajet carburetor. At the sides of that carburetor, mirror-like valve covers loom new Packard TV R Suppression cables above correct heads and fully restored exhaust manifolds. At the back of those manifolds, a traditional points distributor stands between a new wiper motor and fresh Delco Moraine brake booster. Opposite that booster, a shrouded radiator circulates water through new GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps. And at the side of those clamps, a fresh Delco Energizer jolts a newly rebuilt alternator. Naturally, the car's Satin Black engine bay and Chevy Orange block are highlighted by a series of factory-accurate markings. And all of the engine's belts, hardware and stainless lines are in the kind of excellent, showroom-fresh condition that ensures big points and great performance. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION In case you're wondering, the bottom of this Chevelle is just as clean and correctly restored as its straight body panels and pristine engine bay. The car's rust-free floors are covered in slick Red Oxide. Its fully restored F41 heavy duty suspension, which includes thicker coils, heavy duty shocks, a larger diameter front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar, boxed rear control arms and upper rear cross braces, appears to be in better-than-new condition. Behind the big block, a rugged Muncie Rock Crusher twists power to a 12-bolt, posi-traction rear axle that's built around familiar, 3.31 gears. At the sides of that drivetrain, a chambered, true-dual exhaust system funnels charred dinos through small resonators and spotless stainless tips. At the sides of that exhaust, power front disc and rear drum brakes combine with traditional power steering to provide modern handling ability. At the sides of those brakes, attractive Super Sport wheels spin great looking F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around clean, "SS" branded center caps. And while this Chevy's specs sound pretty straight forward, the quality of its restoration is simply remarkable! INTERIOR Featuring a host of new components, and decked in what is arguably one of the coolest colors offered for the 1970 model year, this Chevelle's correctly restored GM code 787 Medium Red interior is both inviting and unique. Its slick bench seats are firm to the touch, showing no signs of detrimental wear and tear. In front of those seats, a familiar Super Sport dash hangs deluxe telemetry above a correct Delco radio and new Auto Meter accessory gauges. Below that dash, clean red carpet centers a chrome Muncie shifter between Fisher sills and thick, color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, pick-free door panels align spotless stainless trim and requisite "SS" emblems on bright chrome handles and pliable red armrests. In front of the driver, a simple, "SS" branded steering wheel keeps everything pointed straight. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk anchors a full-size spare and correct jack assembly between a new mat and fresh decklid decals. AWARDS Naturally, this pristine Super Sport is the recipient of many distinguished awards. Spawned from one of General Motors' most conservative divisions, it built a fast reputation as one of the meanest and most revered offerings of the muscle car era. And when you take a close look at a gem like this Joe Castriganorestored convertible, you'll understand exactly why. 1 of only 67 Stage 1 4-speed drop-tops produced for the 1970 model year, it's an inherently scarce car. Naturally, it wraps a highly accurate restoration around a numbers-matching drivetrain. And, when you add in the fact that it's fully authenticated by official Sloan Museum Documentation, you get one incredible, investment grade classic that's almost guaranteed to appreciate. If you're looking for some old school muscle car attitude, but want something that's unique enough to make even the most jaded gearheads take notice, THIS is the car for you! BODYWORK/TRIM Born with classic good looks, this Buick's current condition comes courtesy of a complete, ground-up restoration that was conducted by well-known Buick aficionado Joe Castrigano. That professional reboot began with a complete strip of what was likely a very solid body. With its metal clean and fully prepped, the car's smooth fuselage was carefully sprayed in a correct layer of code 48 Sherwood Green 2-stage. And the result is one arrow-straight classic that displays a super-reflective finish, possesses very few imperfections and presents as a stunning muscle car that literally embodies the term 'crowd-gathering appeal'. By 1970, Buick had pretty much perfected its top dog performance offerings both mechanically and aesthetically. At the front of the car, a clean grille hangs a bold GS emblem between a broad bumper, chrome-trimmed headlights and clear parking lamps. Behind that grille, a scooped hood hides correctly recessed wipers at the base of factory-tint glass, polished stainless trim and correct White vinyl. At the sides of that hood, traditional door handles and tri-shield stamped mirrors perfectly complement tight wheel frames, red-trimmed rocker guards and fresh GS Stage 1 ornamentation. And at the back of the car, a second broad bumper centers a classy "BUICK" script between clear tail lamps, correct deck trim and a fourth "GS" emblem. ENGINE While the exterior of this slick A-Body does an excellent job of upholding GM Design's world-class visual aesthetics, the engine compartment is where purists REALLY start to take notice. And for good reason too, because the 455 cubic inch Stage 1 V8 that's bolted between the car's freshly detailed fenders is the kind of killer powerhouse that makes people either put up or shut up. Turn the key and a big Quadrajet carburetor mixes air from a black, dual-snorkel cleaner with fuel that's supplied by carefully bent stainless, and shoves it into a correct, cast iron intake. That intake feeds cast iron heads, which ride between a familiar points distributor and fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Spent gases are jetted through correct, cast iron manifolds, which ride under polished and decaled valve covers. And a correct, heavy-duty radiator utilizes pliable GM hoses and reproduction tower clamps to provide ample cooling. The bright red block looks fantastic, framed in Satin Black fenders and dressed in an array of correct marks and decals. Correct ancillary components, like an authentic Delco Moraine brake booster, a Saginaw steering box and a high quality Delco battery topper, prove that someone really sweated the details during this Buick's top-notch restoration. And naturally, the monster mill displays a correct 1231738 casting number behind a correct "SS" assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Under this Buick, it's just as the factory planned, except with much more precision and, subsequently, much more appeal. An original Muncie 4-speed hangs a matching partial VIN between a correct 3925661 casting number and 1970 (0) Muncie (P) M21 (B) assembled on November (S) 12th (12), 1969 build stamp. That stalwart gearbox jerks a correct 10-bolt axle, which is finished with mild, highway-friendly gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a tagged Rallye Ride Control Suspension, which pairs factory power steering with better springs, better shocks, a thicker front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar and boxed rear control arms. During restoration, the car's massive, power-assisted drums were completely rebuilt to factory specifications. On the outside of those brakes, chrome Buick Rallyes twist G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around red, white and blue center caps. The aforementioned manifolds dump spent gases in to aluminized pipes, which make excellent use of throaty turbo mufflers. The car's frame, free of any major damage, is painted black to match its solid, undercoated floors. And, in keeping with the 455 up top, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under this classic is clean and ready to roll! INTERIOR Pop the sculpted doors and you'll find a correct code 158 Black interior that's still restoration-fresh in virtually every way. Comfy bench seats complement stylish, "GS" branded door panels. In front of those thrones, a straight dash hangs upgraded telemetry above a retrofitted AM/FM radio. At the base of that dash, like-new carpet floats heavy duty, shield-branded floor mats at the sides of a familiar Hurst shifter. The driver stays connected to the road thanks to a correct Buick Rallye Wheel. And, behind the passengers, a black convertible cowl snaps tight over a restored trunk that's complete with a fresh mat, a correct jack, a full-size spare tire and a new decklid decal. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Since the sale of this awesome Buick includes Sloan Museum Documentation, there's really no question about the authenticity of its restoration. But, for good measure, here's a look at the car's specially coded VIN and cowl tag. It's rare... It's documented... It's numbers-matching... And on top of all that, it carries a highly accurate restoration that was perfected by a man who's known for building award-winning Buicks. If you find yourself searching for some sort of meaning in today's crowded, clone-infested muscle car market, this top-notch GS Stage 1 is, as GM marketing put it, "something to believe in"! [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1967 Pontiac LeMans World's Finest Frame Off Restored Lemans Convertible 326/285 HP V8 PS PB Year: 1967 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 13718 Transmission type: 2 Speed Automatic Engine: 326 V8 H.O. Interior color: Black Vehicle Info Like the Catalina that came before it, the LeMans was one of those cars Pontiac aced right out of the gate. Eventually, thanks to GM's continuous improvement and consumer's continuous support, the marque became one of the strongest brands in automotive history. And at one point, with a full list of body styles, options, trim grades, color combinations and mild to outrageous engines, the challenge became picking a platform which optimized variety and livability. Whoever filed the order form for this investment grade drop-top probably came as close as you can get to having it all. Its original, high output V8 is a go-to heavyweight for both stoplight brawlers and pony car enthusiasts. Its original Powerglide transmission is as smooth as it is reliable. Its super slick Tyrol Blue on Black color combination literally defines the word classic. And just last year, it took home Best of Show at the AACA meet in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. If you're in the market for a top notch example of one of the coolest muscle cars ever produced, this impressive LeMans is just your style! In addition to historic dealer documents and a stack of restoration receipts, the sale of this wide-track beauty includes an original Protect-O-Plate. Here's a look at how the car rolled in to Kimmel Pontiac in Erie, Pennsylvania: VIN: 237677PXXXXXX2 - Pontiac37 - LeMans67 Convertible7 - 1967 model yearP - Assembled in Pontiac, MichiganXXXXXX - Sequential production number COWL TAG:03D Assembled during the fourth week (D) of March (03), 196767 1967 model year23767 Pontiac (2) LeMans (37) Convertible (67)PON Assembled in Pontiac, Michigan2262 Sequential unit number223-B Black interiorF-2 Tyrol Blue (F) paint that's complemented by a Black (2) top PROTECT-O-PLATE:223 Black interiorF2 Tyrol Blue (F) paint that's complemented by a Black (2) top237677PXXXXXX - The car's VIN464530 - The car's engine unit numberYPT 326 cubic inch high output V8 (YP) that's backed by a 2-speed Powerglide (T) transmission1 G Optional equipmentW - UnknownMB150 2-speed Powerglide transmission Born at GM's recently repurposed Pontiac Assembly, this awesome rag-top is the beneficiary of a 7-year rotisserie restoration that massaged every square inch of its sculpted profile into pristine, show-worthy condition. The car's transformation began in 2006, when its current owner stripped its solid body all the way down to bare metal. With that body smooth and clean, a thick layer of primer was buried in two coats of correct Tyrol Blue Deltron. That Deltron was carefully dusted in PPG 2021 clear. And today, this top notch Poncho is as a spectacular muscle car which combines the best aspects of storied tin indian performance with the gratuitous fun and old school style that only a classic convertible can provide! Tough, understated and attractive, this LeMans perfectly defines Pontiac's lasting legacy of tempering sophistication with aggression. The front of the car is dominated by segmented and stainless-trimmed grilles, which are anchored between stacked T3 headlights, a broad chrome bumper and restoration-fresh marker lamps. Above those grilles, a serious "PONTIAC" script perfectly complements a familiar, Satin Silver arrowhead that's adhered to a conservative hood. At the sides of that script, expressive 'coke bottle' fenders hang dent-free wheel trim and arrow-straight rocker guards around familiar GM door handles. On the outsides of those fenders, red "326" emblems combine with stainless quarter trim and chrome "LeMans" scripts to lend a little bit of class to the car's performance-worthy profile. Above those emblems, tinted glass and highly polished trim prop up a correct, power-operated roof. And behind that glass, a stainless-trimmed valence hangs a second "PONTIAC" script and unassuming tail lights between a second chrome bumper and small "LeMans" emblem. Raise the car's long steel hood and the first thing you'll notice is an original, high output 326 that was rebuilt by Automotive Machine Service in Cranberry, Pennsylvania. Less obvious, of course, is the stalwart engine's correct 86339 casting number, March (C ) 9th (09), 1967 (7) casting date and 285 horsepower-exclusive "YP" build stamp. Originally found in the LeMans and Firebirds alike, this awesome Turquoise mill was Pontiac Motor Division's creative answer to GM's corporate displacement rules. A big 4-barrel carburetor transitions wind from a Satin Black, single-snorkel air cleaner to a factory intake that's bolted down over factory internals. 10.5 to 1 compression is sparked by a traditional, points-style distributor, which jolts fire through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Cooling is provided by a beefy GM radiator, which sends water around a correct fan via pliable hoses and old school tower clamps. Exhaust is funneled through a nice pair of fully restored manifolds. And everything, from the car's mirrored valve covers to its reproduction Delco battery, is exceptionally well done and looks fantastic! Logging few miles since their noble rebirth, this drop-top's smooth floors and straight frame - which was donated by a rust-free parts car, are completely devoid of significant issues and major defects. The stout 326 twists torque to an original, 2-speed Powerglide, which spins a correct Safe-T-Track rear end. At the sides of that rock-solid drivetrain, 2-inch, true-dual exhaust connects the aforementioned manifolds with an H-shaped crossover, throaty Magnaflow mufflers and polished stainless tips. At the sides of that booming soundtrack, a professionally restored suspension features a beefy sway bar, factory power steering and correct power drum brakes. At the corners of that suspension, a quartet of 14-inch steelies spins G70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redlines around full, "PMD" branded wheel discs. And, as it sits, this Pontiac has no major leaks of any kind, as new fluid lines and a fresh fuel tank retain their restoration-fresh shine. Open this convertible's freshly finished doors and you'll find a correct Black interior that's sporty yet classy. Front-and-center, firm bucket and bench seats feature bright chrome trim, cool pleated covers and era-correct lap belts. The engine's vitals are displayed by a rebuilt gauge cluster, which integrates round-faced dials just to the left of a correct, reverb-equipped radio. On the floor, like-new carpet anchors Pontiac-branded floor mats below stainless-trimmed foot pedals. At the sides of the car, fresh door panels hang chrome handles and subdued metal trim around bright LeMans crests. In front of the driver, a satin-spoked steering wheel spins a black rim around a Turquoise, Pontiac-branded column cover. And behind the passengers, a spotless trunk sandwiches a correct jack and a full-size spare tire between a new mat and fresh decklid decals. Not surprisingly, major provenance backs up this classic's factory-correct authenticity. Fortunately, as hardened car guys, we're smart enough to know a better definition of the word. To us, "utility" means having the room to carry a wide variety of essentials while having the ability to haul a whole lot of... umm... tail. That's why, roughly 40 years after their introduction, classics like this fully documented, numbers-matching El Camino still mix serious fun with serious desirability. So, if you're looking to ascertain a correct, muscle-bound Chevy that's ready to pose, play and tote some big trophies, check out this sublime Super Sport! BODYWORK/TRIM Originally sold at Fred Gledhill Chevrolet in Wilmington, California, this unbeholden ute is a 4-owner gem that, according to its current steward, was a multi-year labor of love. Acquired in 1998, the low-mileage weekender benefitted from a body-off restoration that added an immediate transmission rebuild, a 2004 repaint and a 2006 engine rebuild to its 2015 completion date. Naturally, that professionally massaged drivetrain was complemented with an array of correct componentry. As you can see from our high-resolution photos, that correct 2-stage was accented with traditional Super Sport hood stripes. And today, the car presents as a no apologies classic that's both timeless and cool. Aesthetically, the El Camino never strayed far from the coupe or sedan it was founded on. At the front of this retro crossover, a familiar Chevelle grille hangs a fresh and prominent "SS" emblem between stainless-seated T3s, clean marker lamps and a thick chrome bumper. Above that bumper, an NOS Super Sport hood flows to like-new glass, which is flanked by correct stainless frames and correct stainless drip rails. Beneath those rails, bold fender badging combines with correct wheel trim, traditional door handles and flashy mirrors to add visual detail to the car's smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a stainless-trimmed bed leads the eye to a black-trimmed tailgate, which hangs correct badging and clean reverse lamps between vivid taillights and a second chrome bumper. ENGINE Although Chevrolet's ferocious LS6 Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Toss this classic's hood and you'll find an original, 454 cubic inch big block that hangs a correct 3963512 casting number between a correct "CRR" assembly stamp and matching partial VIN. At the top of that block, a rare dual-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to an original Holley carburetor and correct Winters intake. At the back of that intake, an original points distributor sequences fire through high quality Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, correct exhaust manifolds are wired to old school emissions hardware. And at the front of that hardware, GM-branded hoses channel water past a correct fan and rebuilt alternator with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. During the extensive restoration, the big mill was professionally overhauled and decked in glossy Chevy Orange paint. And, from its mirrored valve covers and Delco-topped battery all the way to its fresh brake booster and stainless fluid lines, the monster motor looks right at home in the car's clean, Satin Black engine bay. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Naturally, this A-Body's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as its slick profile and clean engine compartment. A nice coat of Satin Black paint provides a great foundation for correct inspection marks and factory-accurate details. Behind the stout big block, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed hangs a correct "70 CY" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough transmission twists power to a correct "CRW" stamped 12-bolt, which spins a posi-traction differential around meaty, 4.10 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a correct F40 Heavy Duty Suspension, which is equipped with stiff springs, a heavy-duty sway bar and correct manual steering. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brakes are present, accounted for and function exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to authentic Gardner pipes. Power meets the pavement via stylish Super Sport wheels and G70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires. And, in keeping with its raucous 454, much attention has been paid to making sure everything under this Camino is virtually spotless. INTERIOR Decked in correct Black vinyl, this pickup's fully restored interior features a host of fresh components. Its firm bench seat displays correct weave patterns that were designed to keep passengers' backs cool. In front of those seats, a correct Super Sport dash hangs deluxe telemetry and a correct electric clock above Delco pushbutton audio. At the sides of that dash, pliable, "SS" branded door panels bridge the gap between fresh carpet and a factory-spec headliner. And in front of the driver, a thin Super Sport steering wheel keeps everybody pointed in the right direction. HISTORICAL INFORMATION In addition to requisite body tags, this Chevy's sale includes an original build sheet and replacement Protect-O-Plate. For starters, the car must be in tip-top condition. In some instances, determining that is as easy as looking at pictures. But it always helps to have some form of documentation of either a through restoration or serious survivor chops. Speaking of documentation: the more, the better. Ultimately, what we're looking for is anything that can tell the car's story or confirm its exclusivity. The market directly reinforces that exclusivity, as cars of the same quality often sell for close to the same price. Finally, it's always nice to have the hobby's blessing through awards and accolades. By those rules, this fully restored Chevelle, a car the Berger family loaded with 29 additional options, is definitely investment grade. It wraps an original 396/4-speed drivetrain in correct black on red aesthetics that were achieved through a documented rotisserie restoration. Its asking price is right in line with multiple '70 Chevelle convertibles we've already sold. And, since the car spent the last decade winning major awards from AACA, ISCA, MCCN, Chevy Classics and Super Chevy, we're fairly certain it's some of the hobby's most desirable metal! AWARDS Since this Chevelle is one of the most decorated classics we've ever showcased, we'll jump right in to a chronological breakdown of the car's litany of awards and features. 2015:997 out of Super Chevy Chevelle Magazine BODYWORK/TRIM There's no question this highly optioned Chevy benefitted from a world-class restoration. But, given its history, it seems the car was always destined for a touch of greatness. Built in November of 1969 at Leeds Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas, this exclusive drop-top was shipped directly to Berger Chevrolet where it likely became the primary transportation of Vivian Berger, Dale Berger Sr.'s wife. Over the next three decades, the car served four additional owners as a well-preserved survivor. Then, circa 2002, its sixth and most recent owner orchestrated a 3-year, rotisserie restoration that logged roughly 2,400 hours of labor. Laser-straight bodywork, perfected by Piedmont, South Carolina's Chuck Miller's Restorations, wrapped a new hood, new fenders, new quarters and new trunk drops in a correct layer of Tuxedo Black 2-stage. That glossy pigment hangs new stainless and fresh chrome around a nostalgic Berger emblem and clean Super Sport ornamentation. And everything rides under correct Black vinyl that, because of the restorers' obsession with quality, was the third top installed during the car's detailed overhaul. ENGINE Toss this classic's hood and you'll find an original, 396 cubic inch big block that was bored .030 over and fully rebuilt by the professionals at Ewing Automotive Machine in Snellville, Georgia. At the top of the Chevy Orange mill, a chrome, correctly decaled air cleaner forces oxygen in to a correct Quadrajet carburetor that was restored by Kunz Automotive of St. Louis, Missouri. That carb rides on a factory intake, which feeds factory heads that hang over a GM-spec cam and GM-spec valves. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables, chrome valve covers reflect correct exhaust manifolds. And at the front of the block, GM hoses channel water past an original alternator and correct Frigidaire AC compressor with the help of a beefy radiator and familiar tower clamps. Everything, from the car's original starter and correct Delco battery all the way to its Harrison firewall components and Delco Moraine brake booster, adds a feeling of authenticity to the painted and decaled engine bay. And, as expected, a correct 3969854 casting number, a correct "CTW" assembly stamp and a matching partial VIN authenticate the powerplant's legendary status. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Naturally, this Chevy's road-ready chassis has been restored to the same high standards as the aforementioned body panels and engine compartment. Behind the stout big block, an original Turbo-Hydramatic 400 hangs a correct "70-CF" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough gearbox, rebuilt by Snellville, Georgia's Neal Racing Transmissions, twists power to a correct 12-bolt axle. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 sports suspension, which centers factory power steering between stiff springs, boxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. The car's rebuilt power front disc and rear drum brake system is present, accounted for and functions exceptionally well. The aforementioned exhaust manifolds dump spent gases in to precise Gardner pipes, which breathe through correct resonators, throaty mufflers and polished stainless tips. Power meets the pavement through stylish Super Sport wheels, which lap F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around stainless trim rings and requisite "SS" center caps. And mostly original, Satin Black floors, fitted with fresh rear wheelhouses during the car's extensive rebuild, serve as the perfect backdrop for a sandblasted and powdercoated frame. INTERIOR Decked in correct Medium Red vinyl, this convertible's fully restored interior feels comfortable and inviting. Its slick Strato bucket front and rear bench seats, which feature factory power adjustment for the car's driver, show virtually no signs of wear. In front of those seats, an original dash hangs a deluxe Chevelle gauge cluster above correct climate controls and a Delco AM/FM radio. Below that dash, fresh carpet centers a traditional horseshoe shifter inside an attractive, stainless-trimmed console. At the sides of that carpet, clean, "SS" branded door panels frame factory power windows and factory power door locks. In front of the driver, an NOS cushion-grip steering wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, a power-operated trunk centers a stickered spare and correct jack between a fresh mat and correct decklid decals. But at the end of the day, one thing is certain: it didn't take long for EVERYONE to join the party. And by 1970, the tried and true formula for Oldsmobile's storied 442 produced well-groomed street fighters like this incredible W30 hardtop. The subject of a 3-year, ground-up restoration, this razor-sharp Olds is a fully documented classic that wraps a numbers-matching drivetrain in all-original sheetmetal. If you're in the market for a first-class muscle car, it's time to stop debating and start calling! BODYWORK/TRIM A factory-correct car that reportedly hails from the dry climate of west Texas, this top notch A-Body features a solid, all-original profile that's covered in clean, Classic White 2-stage. That paint, and the traditional gold stripes that complement it, is a direct result of an extensive, 3-year restoration that wrapped up in the Spring of 2015. And today, five figures in to the future, this 442 is a timeless muscle car that intimidates like a cruise missile and shines like the family's best silver. Oldsmobile's modernist, mid-century design aesthetic was no doubt a play on its engineering leadership within the GM hierarchy, and the cars that proudly carry those lines continue to weather exceptionally well. At the front of this coupe, a 442-specific grille centers monochromatic "442" lettering between stainless-trimmed T3 headlights and a bright chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. At the top of that grille, a fiberglass ram air hood leads the eye to like-new glass that rides behind straight stainless frames. At the sides of that hood, traditional GM door handles and color-keyed sport mirrors perfectly complement clean marker lamps, dent-free wheel rings and a slick combination of "442" and "W-30" fender emblems. And at the back of the car, a "442" branded decklid hangs a factory wing above a second chrome bumper, silver-trimmed taillights and correct, trumpeted exhaust tips. ENGINE Hoist this Olds' scooped hood and you'll find an original, 455 cubic inch Rocket V8 that's branded with a correct 396021F casting number and matching partial VIN. Professionally rebuilt and fully detailed, that red hot mill is a reliable, big-port big block that, in factory form, twists stout 10.5 to 1 compression into a quick 370 horsepower! Stomp the throttle and a restored Rochester 4-barrel mixes juice from leak-free fuel lines with wind from a correct W-30 air cleaner, and shoves it in to a Winters aluminum intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor feeds fire through proven Packard TV R Suppression Cables, which snake around correct "F" heads and stamped and painted valve covers. Below those covers, freshly restored exhaust manifolds shoot charred dinosaurs in to big, true-dual pipes. Mechanically, the stout engine is all day reliable, spinning 500 lb./ft. of rock-crushing torque from one of the largest and most powerful valvetrains ever created. Aesthetically, familiar plastic fenders and Metallic Blue block skin look fantastic against the car's clean body. There's a roster of high quality ancillaries that includes factory air conditioning and a correct Delco Moraine brake booster. And the entire set up flat out rocks, from its fresh decals and pliable GM hoses to its color-keyed intake springs and Delco-topped battery. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The bottom of this awesome 442 is completely solid, showing no signs of undue wear or question-inducing battle scars. The aforementioned Rocket fronts an original 3-speed, which hangs a correct "70 - OW" assembly tag opposite a matching partial VIN. That tough transmission sends power to a stout, 12-bolt axle. That driveline pushes a familiar Heavy Duty Suspension, which, along with the car's chassis, was thoroughly marked and tagged during the detailed restoration. Solid stops are provided by rebuilt front disc and rear drum brakes. Turns come courtesy of a familiar Saginaw gearbox, which is piped to factory power steering. At the center of the floors, aluminized exhaust pipes funnel spent gases through baritone turbo mufflers. And everything rolls on charcoal SSIIs, which spin 225/70R14 BF Goodrich Radial T/As around polished trim rings and rocket-branded center caps. INTERIOR This impressive coupe's correct, well-optioned interior is so fresh it looks like it just rolled out of the upholstery shop. At the center of the car, stainless-trimmed seats ride on fade-free carpet that's protected by "442 W-30" branded floor mats. At the sides of those seats, clean door panels center familiar GM armrests behind convenient power windows and optional power door locks. A wood-trimmed dash hangs deluxe telemetry above simple AC controls, optional audio equipment and a hidden button that actuates the car's sizeable trunk. At the base of that dash, a slim console frames a slim Hurst shifter. In front of the driver, a Sport Steering Wheel laps a tilting column. And behind the passengers, the aforementioned trunk anchors a fifth SSII and vintage Goodyear Polyglas between a small light, correct tools, bright decals and a fresh mat. HISTORICAL INFORMATION It's pretty easy to confirm this handsome Oldsmobile's status as an authentic 442. Here's a look at the car's 442-specific VIN and Cowl Tag. Great cars are being snatched up for strong money and big returns almost as fast as they hit our showroom! At RK Motors Charlotte, we retail more first class Chevys than anyone in the world. And in the second half of 2015, we've already sold TEN first generation Camaros to ten very satisfied owners. Our latest offering, this Concours Silver-winning Z/28, is a numbers-matching icon that, in addition to being fully documented, has been certified by Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance. If you're a serious pony car enthusiast who's looking for a clean, correctly sorted showpiece, you're staring at your next classic! BODYWORK/TRIM Rolling out of a 4-year restoration in the summer of 2000, and fine-tuned in early 2004, this LeMans Blue gem is the product of A LOT of time spent sweating details. From its correct vinyl top to its NOS replacement quarters, the car's rock-solid metal displays craftsmanship that's nothing short of excellent. Not surprisingly, every seam between that metal's correct D80 spoilers has been aligned to better-than-factory fit. And ultimately, it all adds up to one super impressive F-Body that, despite being restored roughly 11 years prior, took home Concours Silver honors at the 2011 Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals. ENGINE Hoist the cowl induction hood and you'll find a 302 cubic inch Chevrolet small block that, according to Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, is the car's original, numbers-matching engine. Straight from the General this exclusive package utilized high-flow, rectangular-port heads, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods and forged aluminum pistons to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into more than 350 horsepower! At the top of the dressed and detailed mill, a black, single-snorkel air cleaner swirls wind in to a correct Winters intake thanks to a familiar Holley carburetor. At the sides of that intake, authentic 'double hump' heads hang finned valve covers over shielded exhaust manifolds. At the back of those heads, a mandatory points distributor shoots spark through fresh Packard TV R Suppression cables. Naturally, the raucous V8's ancillary components are on-point, with fresh GM hoses, a tagged Delco battery and a tagged Delco Moraine brake booster accompanying a correct alternator and era-correct smog equipment. And an evenly sprayed combination of Chevy Orange skin and Satin Black framing is capped by full hood insulation. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION The ferocious powerplant twists torque through an original, MacNeish-certified Muncie, which twists an original, MacNeish-certified 12-bolt. That correctly tagged drivetrain rides a fully rebuilt and correctly tagged suspension, which centers beefy traction bars between correct, power-assisted brakes. There's a chambered exhaust system that terminates with polished tips. That system is framed by solid floors, which plant smooth Satin Black paint under vivid LeMans Blue overspray. And those floors roll on 15-inch Rallys, which spin E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GTs around dent-free trim rings and correct turbine center caps. INTERIOR Open this Camaro's solid-closing doors and you'll find a correct Blue interior that wraps correct Standard trim around clean, classic style. A familiar bucket and bench seating layout features optional front headrests. In front of those seats, a '69-exclusive dash hangs a correct tachometer and optional clock between a color-keyed pad and faux wood trim. At the base of that dash, a traditional F1 console frames a factory Hurst shifter. Below that console, a quartet of floor mats protects like-new carpet. At the edges of that carpet, Standard door panels center small armrests in pristine stainless hardware. In front of the driver, a fixed steering column spins a classy Rally Wheel. And behind the passengers, a solid trunk conceals a full-size spare tire. HISTORICAL INFORMATION A quick look at this Chevy's VIN, cowl tag and Protect-O-Plate authenticates its status as a correct, real-deal Z/28. The list is short but the 1969 Chevelle SS is definitely one of those cars. Gaining a following that few Chevrolet's have seen outside of the tri-five world, nice examples never stick around our showroom for long. This amazing 1969 Chevelle SS convertible is sure to continue that trend. Featuring an L78 396 mated to the original CX code TH400 automatic transmission, this is thought to be one of just 36 Chevelle convertibles to receive this drivetrain. Add in rare factory options, such as the 8-track player, and the desirability factor practically goes through the roof. Though these cars are notoriously difficult to authenticate without a build sheet, the car does have a copy of its original punch card and a letter from Chevelle guru Jeff Dotterer explaining his belief that the car is a true L78 SS. If you're ready to claim a piece of rare GM metal, this 1969 Chevelle SS convertible is definitely worth a closer look. BODYWORK/TRIM Widely regarded as some of the most underrated work to ever leave a GM design studio, the 1969 Chevelle wears a distinctly sculpted body with tapered front fenders, a rounded beltline and Chevrolet's hallmark long-hood/short-deck profile. It's a familiar shape and one that served General Motors well with over half a million A-bodies built and sold during the 1969 model year. The subject of an extensive restoration, this '69 convertible looks showroom fresh with straight panels and crisp lines all around. While Garnet Red or Monaco Orange may be the overall fan favorites, few colors complement the Chevelle's lines quite like Le Mans Blue. The paintwork is first rate with no notable flaws within sight. Accented by a classic white Super Sport stripe, the car's exterior hints at the monster under its hood without looking overly aggressive or gimmicky. The Le Mans Blue shell is topped off with show-quality factory trim that returns the car to showroom condition. At the front of the car, four T3 headlights flank a new Super Sport grille, which centers a prominent "SS 396" emblem between laser straight bars and a fresh chrome bumper. At the top of that grille a showroom fresh "Chevelle by Chevrolet" script occupies the header panel which perfectly complementing chrome SS-exclusive hood louvers. With the exception of the windshield, rear window and one piece of quarter glass, all glass is date coded and in great shape for its age. At the base of that glass, correct chrome mirrors and traditional chrome door handles combine with correct "SS396" fender emblems and dent-free stainless wheel well trim to give the car a clean finished appearance. At the back of the profile, new Super Sport tail lights hang between a second "Chevelle by Chevrolet" emblem, two spotless exhaust tips and a traditional black decklid cove which centers a fourth "SS396" emblem above a second body-width chrome bumper. ENGINE Lift the hood and you'll find a correct L78 big block that wears a familiar 3969854 casting number. Unless you lived near one of the major Chevrolet performance dealers or knew the correct path through the options list, getting an L78 Chevelle off the lot was a formidable challenge that limited the number built to 9,486 according to most sources. What's more, this L78 is equipped with an impressive list of date-coded parts cataloged by Chevelle master Jeff Dotterer. Oxygen and fuel enter the mill's combustion chambers through a freshly decaled air cleaner, new stainless fluid lines, and a reliable Holley carburetor. Below that carburetor a sea of brilliant Chevy Orange covers the block from its correct Winters intake all the way to its stamped steel oil pan. At the back of that intake a correct points distributor shoots spark through eight Packard TV R Suppression cables. Below those cables bright chrome valve covers perfectly contrast correct, professionally restored exhaust manifolds. In front of those valve covers a fresh Delco battery rides next to a heavy-duty radiator that's equipped with GM branded hoses and familiar tower clamps. And the whole setup shows exceptionally well, with satin black fenders and factory grease markings painstakingly recreated. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Underneath the convertible, the high quality restoration continues. The centerpiece is the original CX code Special High Performance TH400 automatic transmission that was unique to the 375hp and 427/425hp cars due to its specially calibrated shift points and heavy-duty converter. The transmission case displays a 38628388 casting number with a correct 198390030 partial VIN, verifying its place as original equipment. From there, power is transferred down the driveline to a 12-bolt rear end packed with 3.73 gears. Around that drivetrain, the impressive F41 suspension remains in place. It utilizes firm springs and a large sway bar up front, a four link and coil springs out back and firm shocks at all four corners for consistent performance through the twisties. The rear also benefits from a large rear sway bar and braced upper arms that assist in handling the L78's massive torque. Power steering makes turning the A-body a breeze while power disc brakes rein in the big block quickly and efficiently. At the corners, date-coded 14x6 sport wheels wrapped in F70x14 wide oval bias belt tires connect the chassis to road while keeping the factory look intact. INTERIOR While this car left the assembly line with a Medium Blue bench-seat interior, LeMans Blue and Parchment suit the A-bodies so well that it's hard to fault anyone for straying away from the original build sheet. Chevelle interiors were never flashy and over-dressed but, rather, functional and stylish - perfect for the performance cars in which they live. This driver's compartment has been expertly restored to a very high standard with new materials used throughout. The Strato-bucket seats feature fresh foam under the new cushions and new stainless trim. New stainless trim and bright "SS 396" emblems highlight new door panels. Overhead, a white convertible top keeps the elements out while new black carpets and floor mats keep the use of white tasteful. The black dash is all new and houses a speedometer, a 7,000rpm tachometer, an optional electric clock and small fuel, temperature, oil pressure and amps gauges. The car also retains its rare factory 8-track player, which still works perfectly. Connecting the driver to the road is a standard black steering wheel that spins around an optional tilt column. In the back, the trunk is fully restored with spatter finish paint, a new trunk mat, and a full-sized spare with restored jack assembly. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATIONA copy of the car's original punch cardAn original Owner's ManualA letter from Jeff Dotterer, which breaks the car down in great detail With a timeless look and one of the most desirable engines in the 1969 GM catalog, this Chevelle is the stuff dreams are made of. That being said, sharp sheetmetal paled in comparison to the car's most significant upgrade: the legendary L79 option. As intentionally nondescript as the Super Sport trim it accompanied, L79 netted the car's lucky new owner a 327 cubic inch, 350 horsepower small block that was cribbed directly from the Corvette. That mill was certainly a hit, as a little over 5,400 of the red-hot bowties were ordered. But, unfortunately, most were purchased strictly for the quarter mile, which means, thanks to the law of attrition, finding an authentic L79 Nova is becoming increasingly difficult. Well, as you know, your friends at RK Motors Charlotte take pride in specializing in rare and hard to find classics. And that's why we're proud to feature this fully documented, registry-listed L79 Nova. Wrapping a numbers-matching drivetrain in correct Marina Blue on Black aesthetics, this highly original wonder transforms the phrase "investment grade compact" from oxymoron into fact! BODYWORK/TRIM The beneficiary of a partial restoration that was conducted in the mid '90s, this Nova is a sharp weekend cruiser that currently presents much better than original factory fodder. During the car's precise reboot, solid sheetmetal was completely striped of its dull, original pigment. With that shell removed, and its foundation massaged into great alignment, correct Marina Blue base was sealed in mirror-like clear. And today, one close look at our high-resolution pictures reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one slick Chevrolet muscle car! The subdued and classy lines of the prototypical Nova are early '60s conservative. And because they're so universal in appeal, they've continued to gain significant popularity. At the front of this hardtop, a correct, black-trimmed grille hangs a classy "CHEVY II SS" badge between a mirrored bumper, clear parking lamps and bright, stainless-trimmed headlights. Above that grille, a finned hood anchors a simple Chevrolet crest in front of clean glass, polished wipers and straight stainless frames. At the sides of that hood, a clean, modernist profile centers small fender emblems and traditional door handles between straight wheel trim, a familiar bowtie mirror and correct Super Sport rocker guards. And at the back of the car, correct Super Sport trunk trim hangs red-detailed badging between vertical tail lamps and a second mirrored bumper. ENGINE Even if you forget everything else we tell you about this Chevy II, be sure to pay VERY close attention to what's under the car's hood. Motivating this real-deal Super Sport is a 1966-exclusive L79 V8 that, according to the factory, twists stout 11 to 1 compression into 350 Corvette-matching horsepower. Savvy collectors will quickly locate the original 327's correct 3791362 casting number, correct "ZI" suffix stamp and matching partial VIN. Casual observers will be quick to notice the mill's L79-exclusive polished, twin-snorkel air cleaner. And everyone will start to vibe when air and fuel flow from a big Holley carburetor in to a hot Winters intake that's framed by high-flow cylinder heads! That air/fuel mixture meets spark thanks to Packard TV R Suppression Cables, which crawl around polished valve covers on their way to a correct points distributor. Spent gases fall in to old school cast iron exhaust manifolds. There's a tagged radiator that joins a rebuilt alternator, a rebuilt master cylinder and a reproduction Delco battery to round out the car's first-rate ancillaries. And, when it comes to keeping up appearances, the entire engine compartment, from its Chevy Orange block to its Satin Black fenders, is clean, attractive and ready to roll! DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION One look under this sturdy compact reveals a solid chassis that's just as ready for the road as that stout 327. Power flows through an original Muncie 4-speed, which hangs a Muncie (P) assembled on March (03) 18th (18) 1966 build stamp behind a correct 3885010 casting number. That transmission twists a correct 12-bolt axle. Holding that virtually unbreakable drivetrain off the ground is a restored double A-arm front and leaf spring rear suspension. Stops come courtesy of manual drum brakes. Exhaust flows from the aforementioned manifolds to modern, aluminized pipes, which precede DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers with an H-shaped crossover. The body's unrestored floors wear a thick layer of original undercoating. And all that old school Americana rolls on traditional Chevrolet Rallies, which spin F70-14 Firestone redlines around polished trim rings and low profile center caps. INTERIOR Regardless of what motor made its way in to the subframe, the Nova always stayed true to its simplistic roots. No place was that more evident than in the car's cockpit. Front and center, nicely restored thrones provide seating. A showroom-quality dash balances rebuilt gauges between a correct Delco pushbutton radio and an original, Maine-mandated 4-way flasher switch. Beneath that dash, a Corvette-style shifter rides a chrome-trimmed console, which floats on like-new carpet that's protected by color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, classy door panels are, like the car's headliner and package tray, virtually devoid of weathering. In front of the driver, a wide steering wheel laps a polished, "CHEVY II" branded horn bar. And behind the passengers, a matted trunk hides a full-size spare tire beneath a decaled decklid. In the world of electronic fuel injection and computer diagnostics, even late model dealerships look a little uncomfortable working on pre-OBD1 cars. There are many independent mechanics and shops that may be able to help, but putting your prized classic in the hands of a stranger is a leap of faith at best. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. Being proud members of SEMA, ARMO, HRIA and the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the RKM Performance Center is a nationally recognized shop; best known for high level OEM restorations and custom builds. Comprised of ASE certified mechanics, including several Master Technicians, you can feel confident that your car is in capable hands. As fellow enthusiasts, they are passionate about cars and will treat yours with the respect it deserves.
