[email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1961 Plymouth Suburban Sport 64,423 Actual Mile Suburban Sport Wagon Golden Commando 361 V8 3 Speed Survivor Year: 1961 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Blue Mileage: 64423 Transmission type: 3 Speed Manual Engine: 361 Golden Commando V8 Interior color: Blue Vehicle Info There's nothing quite like an extravagant American wagon. In the '40s and '50s, chrome-laden luxo-tanks served as ultimate line toppers that appealed to the most affluent buyers. In the '60s and '70s, highly adaptable family haulers ushered in a new era of cross-country travel. In the '80s and '90s, offerings like AMC's Eagle essentially birthed the crossovers we currently know and love. And now, thanks to low production numbers and perpetually cool presence, cars like this hulking Suburban Sport are providing hot rodders with unique cruisers for very lovable prices. A solid, Golden Commando 395-powered survivor, this 6-passenger Plymouth is a highly desirable rarity that affords one lucky MoPar enthusiast the ultimate opportunity to own an underappreciated classic. If you're looking for some of the coolest, most exclusive and most unique metal your money can buy, here's a lot of car for not a lot of money! Loosely based on designer Virgil Exner's 1957 styling theme, which proclaimed "Suddenly its 1960!", this '61 Suburban debuted to mostly negative fanfare. Nonetheless, that didn't stop the car's Wyoming-based owner from proudly protecting his investment. And, 53 years later, that dedication paid off as this Plymouth rolls as an exceptionally solid survivor. Decked in all too appropriate Robin Egg Blue and Alpine White, the car appears to have always been adult pampered. Its classy, curvaceous body reflects a smooth finish that exhibits minimal signs of wear and no major defects. Its original bumpers and straight stainless trim look almost as good as the day they left the showroom. And, despite what some might call awkward proportions and excessive brightwork, this graceful classic is both striking and handsome! Top of the line for Exner-era wagons, this first class Plymouth features substantial detailing. At the front of the car, a dramatic valance centers a massive, gold-trimmed grille between stainless eyebrows, heavy headlights and an exaggerated bumper. At the sides of that valance, 'knife edge' fenders flow into jet-age quarters behind polished flashings, flush-mount door handles and small stainless rocker guards. At the top of those fenders, a flat, "Plymouth" branded hood leads the eye to original glass, cleverly placed mirrors and straight stainless frames. And, opposite that hood, a "P L Y M O U T H" branded tailgate anchors chrome hardware and a small Golden Commando emblem between a stylized bumper and famous 'flashlight' tail lights. Like its Fury brethren, the Suburban was powered by a mix of 6 and 8-cylinder engines that ran the gamut from mild mannered grocery getter to gold toothed torque monster. Raise the car's long hood and you'll find a 361 cubic inch Chrysler big block that distills 305 horsepower into 395 lb./ft. of torque. Officially known as the Golden Commando 395, that original "R36" mill wears a roster of correct components, from its bright gold air cleaner and much ballyhooed alternator all the way to its heavy duty radiator and Jiffy Jet washer reservoir. Fire is provided by a traditional points distributor, which sequences sparks through reliable CARQUEST suppression cables. Combustion comes courtesy of a Carter 4-barrel carburetor, which breathes through a correct intake and old school exhaust manifolds. The motor's clean aluminum valve covers present well against the car's Robin Egg engine bay. And little details like original decals, a pair of Sparton horns and a MoPar green cap battery round out a nice dose of eyeball appeal. Naturally, the bottom of this boulevard king looks as expected for a 53 year old survivor. In the middle of solid floors, an original heavy duty 3-speed sends power to a correct 8.75-inch rear end. At the front of those floors, wide turns and firm feel come courtesy of correct manual steering. At the edges of those floors, solid, fade-free stops are provided by sturdy drum brakes. The big V8 barks a deep, civilized demeanor through a true-dual exhaust system that employs small, glasspack-style mufflers. All that road-worthy hardware rides on tough Cragar Radirs, which spin 215/75R15 Coker Classic whitewalls in front of 225/70R15 BF Goodrich whitewalls. And everything, from the car's clean oil pan to its leak-free fuel tank, is functional, reliable and ready to roll! Inside this Plymouth, you'll find a mostly original interior that has enough room to haul the whole family in comfort. The car's Command Seat front and standard rear bench feature attractive, two-tone vinyl. Close cut pile carpet, which is protected by massive floor mats, does an excellent job of highlighting relaxed, airy ambiance. Above that carpet, a stylish dash founds a space-age day/night mirror over gorgeous TeleView telemetry, clean Bakelite buttons and a correct AM radio. At the sides of that dash, fantastic door panels display prominent Exner design behind fresh stainless trim, bright chrome handles and sculpted armrests. Above those panels, painted A-pillars lead the eye to a tight headliner that's adorned with vintage speakers. In front of the driver, a semi-square Aero steering wheel spins a metal flake rim around an intricate horn button. And behind the passengers, a matted storage compartment frames ample luggage space. The sale of this full-bodied MoPar includes a vintage Owner's Manual and a small collection of historic documents. This stunning Plymouth people mover is a clean, fully sorted classic that's poised for many years of shows and road trips. As some of the most unique metal on the market, it oozes the kind of personality that's only found in '60s-era specialty cars. If you're looking for an exclusive collectable that's as affordable as it is cool, you've found your next cruiser! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. [email protected] 5527 Lakeview Road, Charlotte, NC, 28269, US 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda Supercharged Vipercuda Convertible 488/547 HP Viper V10 T56 6 Speed Dana 44 A/C Year: 1971 Type of vehicle title: Clear Primary color: Silver Mileage: 31 Transmission type: 6 Speed Manual Engine: Viper V10 Interior color: Black Vehicle Info Since the earliest days of hot rodding, engine swaps have served as a means for sophisticated gearheads to continually satisfy their need for more speed, better performance and less weight. But rare is the masterpiece that can so seamlessly blend two completely different vehicles as this extraordinary 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda drop-top. You see, that classic Mopar body is merely an attractive illusion as, underneath its surface, a 1995 Dodge Viper is coiled and ready to strike! Complete with a thundering 547 horsepower V10, a modern 6-speed transmission and a fully independent, track-ready suspension, this stunning Dodge, err, Plymouth is car number three of Time Machine's well-known Six Shooter Viper 'Cudas. If you're looking for a truly exceptional, truly mind-boggling muscle car, you've definitely come to the right place! Like most great cars, the idea for the Viper 'Cuda was born from a unique combination of stress and innovation. After losing his pristine Hemicuda in a divorce, the future owner of Time Machines decided to take a spin in one of his good friend's Dodge Vipers. While he was out enjoying Detroit's brawniest badass, he began thinking how nice it'd be if his remaining asset, a '71 Cuda project car, drove as well as a modern sports car. And the rest, as we say, is sweet, octane-fueled history! Starting with a clean, complete '71 'Cuda convertible, Time Machine's Hudson, Florida team gutted, stripped and removed their way through everything but this custom's front subframe, rear rockers and factory radiator cradle. After the conversion, which we'll talk more about in a few moments, every piece of the car's body was refinished to show condition using a combination of original and high quality replacement sheetmetal. And finally, once that metal was primed and ready for art, a glossy silver basecoat was topped with a matte horizontal treatment, and eventually detailed with trick Viper billboards. If you're going to build a car like this, there's no point in keeping it subtle; and this incredible topless wonder will attract a TON of attention anywhere you go! Thanks to its high dollar professional transformation, this Cuda's crisp shut lines and spectacular panel alignment present much better today than when it rolled off Chrysler's assembly line almost 42 years ago. At the front of the car a stainless-trimmed, 1971-exclusive 'Cuda grille hangs four modern headlights above a color-keyed bumper, a factory front valence and clear, sculpted parking lamps. At the top of the car a slick, AAR-style hood leads the eye to like-new glass, fresh stainless trim, and a black cloth top. At the sides of the car, shaved mirrors and shaved door handles ride above correct silver fender louvers and shaved marker lights. And at the back of the car, a satin black valence hangs like-new tail lights between a ducktail decklid spoiler, a second color-keyed bumper and centered stainless exhaust tips. The foundation for this killer build was a 20K mile 1995 Dodge Viper, which makes this Cuda's current mileage of 31,906 accurate to its drivetrain. And naturally, every bit of that snake's mechanical goodness made the transition 100% intact, with the Roe Racing supercharged V10 sending a dyno-proven 547 horsepower and a pavement-splitting 623 lb./ft. of torque to the car's fat rear wheels. It's virtually impossible to hurt one of these Viper engines as they are notoriously over-engineered and literally assembled for track time combat. And as a result, weekend warriors have been putting insane levels of boost through stock V10s for years without any difficulties what so ever. But wait, there's more. Not only does the big mill perform well, it's also highly aesthetically pleasing as the Time Machines team knew people would want to SEE the world's largest muscle car engine. And with its monochromatic valve covers, black blower hardware and brushed aluminum Viper graphics, the 488 looks like it would be right at home under the hood of a half-million dollar Italian exotic. All the donor car's original systems are intact and there's no sign of dirt, neglect, or leakage. And why would there be? This heavyweight Detroit brawler was designed and built to the same high standards as any other modern production car. It suffers none of the temperamental idiosyncrasies of the overrated imports with which its original shell competed. When you turn the key, it cranks to life swiftly and easily. And when you hit the gas, it pulls like a freight train going up a mountain! The interesting thing about Time Machines is the way they performed the Viper 'Cuda conversions. Instead of a simple engine swap, or a pro-touring style adaptation, this '71 'Cuda's body is actually mated to its Viper donor chassis as one structure. That means the view from under a lift is all supercar, all the time! At the edges of the aerodynamic floors, a beefy chassis is complete with a Borg Warner T56 6-speed manual transmission and a Dana 44 limited slip differential that's filled with stout 3.55 gears. The car's frame has been reinforced to improve precision and address concerns about cowl shake, and the cast unequal length double A-arm suspension features revised geometry, updated coil overs and factory sway bars which make the Phase II Viper a little more user-friendly. Pound on the four wheel disc brakes and they're more than up to the task of reeling in the engine's 547 horses, lap after lap. Romp on the gas and the center-exit exhaust system I mentioned earlier utilizes a dual inlet Flowmaster muffler to create a much improved roar. Throw the car into the corner, and handsome 18 inch wheels spin 275/35 front Michelin Pilot Sport performance radials in front of 335/30 rear Michelin Pilot Sport performance radials. As you probably already know, this Plymouth's interior was the biggest challenge; but the car's transformation from 5-passenger muscle to 2-passenger sport is pretty much seamless in appearance. And for the most part, the conversion itself was straightforward aside from engineering correct A-pillar alignment. That's why Time Machines fabricated a special all-steel dashboard, which also happens to house the original Viper's gauges and provide the right interior proportions to fit the original Viper's seats. The transition between the car's dash and door panels is especially well done, with big Sony Xplod speakers helping to blend Viper and 'Cuda shapes until you can't even see where one ends and the other begins. The car's power window and power door lock switches were relocated to the console, and the original Viper's stubby shifter protrudes just enough to make all the right shifts. Front and center, there's just nothing like the power of an OEM climate control system, which delivers effective heat and air conditioning that no vintage or retrofit system could ever match. A fresh Sony CD player has been wired to eight more Sony Xplod speakers which are fitted in a rear cargo catch that completely eliminates the back seat, and provides a sleek top-down profile. And the trunk, which houses two Sony Xplod amplifiers behind two Optima gel cell batteries, has been completely upholstered to match the impressive interior. The sale of this well-done Mopar includes a professional dyno sheet and a couple of pieces of component literature. This awesome Viper 'Cuda is an extremely impressive road warrior that's been professionally engineered to exacting standards. It'll run the tires off a stock Hemicuda, it handles like a modern sports car. And best of all, with OEM-grade mechanicals it has the ability to be serviced at any Chrysler dealership in the world. Pro-touring has never been this chic, and if you're the kind of guy who wants something nobody else has, here's your first class ticket to exclusivity! Well, you should have a wildly popular halo that generates huge buzz and creates truckloads of revenue. In the case of Plymouth and their coveted Road Runner Superbird, that wasn't quite the result. In fact, the division managed to barely surpass the 1,920 cars required to meet NASCAR's renewed homologation rule. And while these slow sellers lingered on lots and didn't do much for the brand during their day, their outrageous nature virtually guaranteed that, in time, they would become exclusive classics serious collectors dream of owning. This highly authentic Superbird is a fully documented, 3-owner dreamboat that wraps rare Black, White and B5 Blue aesthetics around an original 440/A727 drivetrain. And if you're a serious MoPar enthusiast who's looking for a crown jewel classic to lead your collection, it's a chance to turn your reverie into reality! HISTORY Throughout the '60s, Chrysler and Ford were heavily vested in the "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" sales mentality. And Dodge's Charger 500, despite its NASCAR-inspired tweaks, just wasn't getting the job done. In an attempt to one up Ford's slick and equally fast Torino, Chrysler went to the drawing board and began exploring aerodynamics. While aerodynamics wasn't a new concept, it had yet to be seriously studied by major auto manufacturers. And Chrysler's foray into the subject eventually culminated in testing full scale models at Lockheed Martin's North Carolina wind tunnel. Engineers quickly realized the benefits of a wind-cutting nose, but the real epiphany came when they employed a large rear stabilizer. Not only did that 'rocket nose' and 'park bench' spoiler combination create 'zero lift' downforce, it also produced immense directional stability, permitting speeds in excess of 200 MPH. Not surprisingly, Dodge's storied Daytona won the first race it competed in, and would eventually become one of the most successful NASCAR stock cars of all time. And Plymouth, looking to lure NASCAR star Richard Petty back into the fold, followed Dodge's impressive Daytona with the equally slippery, and some say better, Road Runner Superbird. BODYWORK/TRIM Like many investment grade classics, this impressive Plymouth spent the majority of its 46 years in the hands of one very meticulous enthusiast. Traded in 1971 by its original owner, the car was nabbed by that enthusiast for a whopping $3,300 from Al Davenport Plymouth of Portsmouth, Virginia. In 2012, when that enthusiast decided to pass his beloved 'bird to a third owner, the car benefitted from a thorough, 1.5-year restoration that consisted of a little bodywork and quite a bit of detailing. During that refresh, Accomac, Virginia's Durbin's Auto Body stripped mostly original sheetmetal, welded up a fresh trunk pan, sprayed correct Blue Fire Metallic 2-stage and installed a fresh vinyl top. And today, this warrior rolls as one super slick, all-American muscle car that's so cool it'll make you feel guilty! ENGINE Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 2536430 casting number and matching partial VIN. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared as Plymouth's 440 6 BBL, this Super Commando V8 was designed to offer an exceptional combination of speed and civility. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled, dual snorkel air cleaner to a big Carter carburetor, which is bolted to a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through reliable 7mm High Temperature plug wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correct, cast iron exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to channel water past a correct, 7-blade fan. A correct MoPar red cap utilizes an old school Chrysler voltage regulator to supply the jolts. And, aesthetically, everything in the clean engine bay presents great; from the car's cool factory decals and B5 Blue fenders to its old school washer reservoir and requisite Road Runner horn. According to this Plymouth's current owner, neither the big 440 nor its A727 companion has ever been fully rebuilt. And after the car's restoration, the moody 6 BBL induction noted in accompanying build photos was happily exchanged for a correct 4-barrel set-up. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this specialized B-Body on a lift and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, remains very close to the way it left the Lynch Road assembly line. Factory undercoating protects solid floors that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando, an original A727 Torqueflite hangs a high performance "PK3410670" assembly stamp opposite a matching partial VIN. That proven transmission sends power to a correct 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end that spins a correct Sure Grip differential around correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi Suspension utilizes heavy-duty torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi Suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of fresh KYB Gas-A-Just shocks and a stainless fuel tank that feeds stainless fuel lines. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Spent gases traverse polished stainless tubes on their way to an H-shaped crossover, polished Dynomax mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all that MoPar goodness rolls on stylish Rallye wheels, which twist F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas tires around bright stainless trim rings and color-keyed center caps. INTERIOR Inside this famous Plymouth, a striking White & Black interior adds to the car's rare and exceptionally attractive aesthetics. Correct bench and bucket seats display no significant signs of wear. In front of those thrones, a straight, crack-free dash hangs correct Rallye gauges beside a correct AM/FM radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet centers a factory shifter on a correct console. At the sides of that carpet, bright door panels complement bright door frames. Above those frames, a tight headliner backs a cool Richard Petty autograph. In front of the driver, a correct, wood-trimmed steering wheel spins satin spokes around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk hides a fresh mat beneath a fifth Rallye wheel and a fifth a Goodyear tire. PROVENANCE In addition to significant historical provenance, this Plymouth's substantial documentation includes Galen Govier Fender Tag and Broadcast Sheet decodes. And there's just something about documented, SCCA-inspired pony cars that makes them universally appealing and highly collectable. Of course, we ALL know big block MoPars have been fetching big money prices for years. But what most collectors fail to realize is that equally exclusive small block cars, like this Mopar Nationals-winning AAR 'Cuda, are just as hot and sometimes a better investment. With their excellent combination of power and handling, broad aftermarket support system and increasingly rare status, these classics enjoy one of the fastest sell-through rates of anything in our showroom. And this Lemon Twist coupe is a factory-correct gem that'll likely follow the quick-sale path of its striped and piped siblings. If you want a truly exclusive classic that does more than blister a straight line and under steer through corners, you'd better hurry up and clear some garage space! BODYWORK/TRIM Assembled in Hamtramck, Michigan in April of 1970, this spectacular pentastar is the beneficiary of a professional restoration that was completed in October of 2010. During that thorough rebuild, the car's all-original body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of excellent panel alignment, was stripped to bare metal, massaged into shape and thoroughly block-sanded into virtually flawless surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, correct Lemon Twist 2-stage was accented with correct strobe stripes and dressed in correct war paint. And today, after a mere 150 miles of road time, this precise Plymouth rolls as a national award-winning collector car that's primed for a serious investor. Not surprisingly, this AAR's track-bred appearance is backed by a long list of correct details. At the front of its glowing profile, a familiar, stainless-trimmed grille hangs a small "PLYMOUTH" script between clear headlights, flush-fit parking lamps, a correct elastomeric bumper and decaled driving lights. Behind that grille, a lightweight, AAR-exclusive hood, which is secured by fresh stainless lanyards, rolls a correct suede topcoat toward new glass that's framed in straight stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, bright door handles and correct racing mirrors combine with spotless exhaust tips and correct wind wings to provide an authentic, factory-fresh appearance. And at the back of the car, a Satin Black valence hangs fresh taillights and a small "'cuda" script between a second chrome bumper and correct ducktail spoiler. ENGINE Pull the pins on this coupe's matte-finished hood and you'll find an original, 340 cubic inch LA V8 that's authenticated by a familiar 3577130TA casting number, a November (11) 25th (25), 1969 (69) casting date and a matching partial VIN. Although SCCA Trans Am racecars were limited to 302 cubic inches, Plymouth stuck to the tried and true "no replacement for displacement" rule for street applications. That means this car received a powerplant that was specifically designed for high performance turnpike warriors. And, thanks to Holley tri-power carburetion, a correct Edelbrock intake, a high performance points distributor, high-flow cylinder heads and unique internals, it turned hefty 10.5 to 1 compression into 315 fire-breathing horses straight from the factory. That said; SCCA regulations and increasing insurance costs forced Chrysler to actually underrate the mill's output to just 290. But, in reality, the car easily disposed of most 'equally powered' stoplight challengers. Whatever the number, this engine's spotless bay is in brilliant, show-ready condition, displaying immaculate detailing and exact finishes throughout. Awesome Lemon Twist fenders provide excellent contrast to a glossy layer of Hemi Orange skin. A bright air cleaner looks great peeking through the aforementioned hood. And, as with most of today's award winning MoPars, every detail on this dyno-tuned beast has been returned to a convincing level of factory authenticity. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this impressive 'Cuda on a lift and you'll find exceptionally clean floors that feature a correct pattern of overspray. The high-winding small block churns power through an original A833 4-speed, which is authenticated by a March 12th, 1970 build stamp and matching partial VIN. That transmission spins a correct 8.75-inch axle. The car's suspension has been fully rebuilt to include factory power steering and correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. As expected, those 11-inch, AAR-exclusive drums are accompanied by specially tuned shocks and re-cambered springs that tilt the car to accommodate its unique exhaust pipes. Speaking of that exhaust, the usual 'muffler shop special' look has been exchanged for a clean, OEM-style appearance. And hooking all that mechanical prowess to the pavement is freshly restored Rallye wheels which spin E60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs in front of G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs to employ one of the first applications of staggered tire sizing. INTERIOR Swivel this Plymouth's solid-closing doors and you'll find a correct interior that's functional, straightforward and very livable. The front bucket and rear bench seats are wrapped in standard vinyl covers that display virtually no signs of wear. In front of those seats, a clean, wood-trimmed dash frames correct Rallye gauges above a correct Chrysler 8-track player. Fade-free carpet, weather-free door panels and a fresh headliner frame those components in a sea of serious black. The driver navigates the course through a wood-rimmed steering wheel and beefy Hurst Pistol Grip. And behind the cockpit, a fully finished trunk centers a correct jack and new space saver spare between a correct mat and new decklid decal. The 'coolest of the cool' that's survived almost five decades of vehicle downsizing trends, fuel thirsty gearheads and stoplight fisticuffs? Well, you don't have to worry about getting pinched back to reality this time because this killer 1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX is a highly original, fully documented MoPar that's been professionally restored by some of the best names in the business! But wait, there's more. Not only is this award-winning hardtop a first class show queen that presents much nicer than when it rolled off the assembly line, it also wraps original sheetmetal around an original Hemi drivetrain that's logged only 20,811 miles. If you're looking for some tough, investment grade muscle that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and ready to hit the show circuit as soon as it rolls out of our showroom, congratulations, you've found your next classic! BODYWORK/TRIM It seems only fitting that a super clean and equally fierce B-Body, like this impressive Belvedere, would begin its life in the golden California sun. Fast-forward to the late 20th century where the solid hardtop, still owned by its original purchaser, was thoroughly researched and carefully documented. And step in to the early 21st century when the car benefitted from a professional, ground-up restoration that was completed in October of 2013. When you're restoring a classic of this caliber, it's always good to start with an unmolested body that retains as much authentic feel as possible. Accordingly, this GTX's thorough reboot began with solid, all-original sheetmetal that was stripped, tightened up and eventually reassembled by Classic Garage Automobile Restoration of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Once the stage was set for paint, Chris Lidgerwood of Spokane, Washington's Extreme Customs sealed a sweet coat of correct Bright Blue Metallic base in tough and glossy clear. That pigment and metal work, tabbing out at roughly $31K, was complemented with restored stainless, original emblems and an array of correct trim that includes a tint-free windshield, a fresh vinyl roof, a manual driver's mirror and chrome drip rails. And today, this Plymouth rolls as one stunning, arrow-straight showpiece that, in 2015, was bestowed a Goodguys Mopar Muscle Pick and a Goodguys Award of Excellence. ENGINE Authenticated by a famous 2468330 casting number and October 10th, 1966 casting date, the car's original, 426 cubic inch Hemi benefitted from a completely documented rebuild that was conducted by Hemihaines of Daytona Beach, Florida. As Plymouth's top option for power hungry gearheads, Chrysler's legendary elephant block utilizes cast iron heads, an oversquare bore, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons and a hydraulic cam to twist stout 10.25 to 1 compression into a stated 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. All that high performance hardware spins in a familiar Hemi Orange block, which hangs requisite Organisol-coated valve covers over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. Oxygen is supplied by a polished and decaled air cleaner, which rides original Carter carburetors and a correct aluminum intake. Compression is sparked by Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables, which are snapped onto a correct points distributor. And a correct, 26-inch radiator utilizes pliable hoses and old school squeeze clamps to cool combustion. Visually, the body-matched engine bay is both clean and accurate. Thanks to impeccable upkeep, the big mill cruises just as well as when it rolled out of the restoration shop. And naturally, a roster of correct ancillaries includes items like factory decals, a reproduction MoPar battery, an old school washer reservoir and a monochromatic brake booster. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this pristine GTX on a lift and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that's been finished to the same exacting standards as the car's impressive engine bay. Glossy blue 2-stage protects solid, original floors that probably haven't seen much daylight since the car's restoration. Behind the stalwart engine, an original A833 4-speed twists power to an original Dana 60 that's fitted with a correct Sure Grip differential and correct, 3.54 gears. That drivetrain rides a factory-spec suspension, which mixes correct power steering with correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. The car's correct dual exhaust system centers an H-shaped crossover in front of factory replacement mufflers and polished stainless tips. And power scorches the pavement through original, correctly painted steelies, which spin correct 7.75-14 Firestone redlines around correct Plymouth hubcaps. INTERIOR Open this Plymouth's solid doors and you'll find one of the coolest interiors ever bolted behind a big block engine. Billed as the 'Gentleman's Muscle Car' and finished in correct Black vinyl, it brings a real sense of class to a platform with a solemn and brutish nature. Front and center, a correct combination of bench and bucket seats frame a correct fold down armrest. In front of those seats, a classy dash frames decidedly retro telemetry above a rare Reverberator radio. At the sides of that dash, ornate door panels complement correct door toppers. Those panels are sandwiched between a tight headliner and clean carpet, which frames an original Inland shifter. In front of the driver, a correct, 3-spoke steering wheel frames a chrome, Plymouth-branded horn ring. And behind the passengers, a fully restored trunk hangs a fresh mat and correct jack over an original spare tire. And while it eventually spawned some of America's premier stoplight warriors, the brand itself started as Chrysler's entry level marque to rival Ford and Chevrolet in both sales and popularity. That means many of the storied muscle cars enthusiasts know and love began life like this stylish 1964 Sport Fury. This all-American cruiser HAS to be one of the coolest Plymouths on the planet! And if you're a dedicated MoPar collector who's itching for some early American Muscle that'll be the star of every cruise night in town, it's your hot ticket! BODYWORK/TRIM The beneficiary of an 18-month nut-and-bolt restoration, this clean B-Body currently mixes a correct, 383 cubic inch V8 with timeless good looks. Even though the car originally left Newark in PP1 Ruby paint, we can't help but think its current coat of bright White 2-stage is much more stunning. Fit and finish is better than anything that rolled off the factory's now antique assembly lines. And, thanks to 1,262 hours of carefully planned labor, you can rest assured that those stunning aesthetics are built to last! In the early '60s, Plymouth designers, working directly with the brand's sales team, were being instructed to make their cars look as wide as possible. At the front of this sedan, a bold, "PLYMOUTH" branded grille floats quad headlamps above a thick, wraparound bumper. Behind that grille, a Plymouth 'gun sight' hood ornament leads like-new glass that's framed in original stainless trim. Below that glass, original aluminum trim splits the difference between chrome mirrors, chrome door handles and conservative "SPORT FURY" scripts. And at the back of the car, a polished valance founds clear taillights between a flashy deck emblem, original trunk trim and a second wraparound bumper. ENGINE Pop the hood and you'll find a potent, 383 cubic inch V8 that's restored, refinished and ready to roll! The block, which wears a correct 2468130 casting number, is layered in era-correct Turquoise that contrasts nicely against its white backdrop. Under the flat black air cleaner, a correct Carter 4-barrel delivers fuel and oxygen to a cast iron intake. That atomized energy travels to 516 heads that feature hydraulic lifters and hardened valve seats. Spark is sequenced by a MoPar electronic ignition system that was added for the ease of modern convenience. Speed Pro pistons, re-conditioned rods and a Howard cam, which hover between a .010 crankshaft turndown and .040 overbore, perpetuate combustion. And spent gases leave correct exhaust manifolds on their way to dual, 2.5-inch tail pipes. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Under the car you'll find rock-solid floors that serve as the perfect backdrop for a fully restored suspension. At the front of that suspension, a powder-coated K-frame hangs fresh Monroe shocks at the edges of old school manual steering. Opposite that rack, re-arched leaf springs ride under a fresh fuel tank that's fitted with a 5/16-inch sending unit. Behind the motor, a correct A833 4-speed treats gear selection with authority. From there, power travels to an 8.75-inch axle that's equipped with clutch-type posi-traction and 3.55 gears. Stops come courtesy of four massive drums. And in front of those drums, 14-inch steelies turn 215/70 Michelin all-season whitewalls around correct spinner hubcaps. INTERIOR This Plymouth originally left the factory with a Red interior that perfectly complemented its Ruby paint. But today, thanks to extensive help from Legendary Interiors, it sports miles of blue vinyl that serve as an excellent contrast to its fresh 2-stage. Swing the doors and you'll be greeted by firm vinyl buckets and a stylish console that's centered on a reliable Hurst shifter. Below that console, color-keyed floor mats protect stain-free carpet. At the front of that carpet, a reconditioned, original dash has been painted to match the new bits. At the sides of that dash, pick-free door panels back impressive stainless trim. And in front of the driver, a restored steering wheel twists a full horn ring around a patriotic Plymouth logo. Want it in a package that doesn't require red ropes and a car bubble? Well, as the old saying goes: "Car culture starts where the assembly line stops". And now that more and more authentic, numbers-matching Hemi cars are being confined to private collections, enthusiasts are filling the void with creations like this awesome Road Runner. The beneficiary of a professional restoration, this sweet coupe wraps 472 cubic inches of big block bliss in head-turning yellow aesthetics. If you've always dreamed of owning first-class MoPar muscle, but don't want the inherent stress that comes with authenticity, here's the perfect solution! BODYWORK/TRIM An authentic J-code Road Runner that was originally decked in triple green, this Plymouth is the graduate a comprehensive, 2009 restoration that married an exceptionally solid body with high quality replacement quarters. Once that body's broad shouldered profile was correctly aligned, a smooth coat of GM yellow 2-stage was complemented with an old school hood stripe. And the result is one ultra-straight, fully detailed pavement pounder that inspires comments and elicits stares every time it hits the road. Every bit of this Plymouth's factory-spec ornamentation is bright and extremely clean. And while it's really hard to determine whether all those baubles are original, they certainly look nice! At the front of the car, a black-inlayed grille hangs four halogen headlights between a broad bumper, crystal clear parking lamps and an offset "PLYMOUTH" header. Behind that grille, a "HEMI" branded hood centers small scoops between ornate turn indicators, matte-finished windshield wipers and like-new glass that's framed in fresh black vinyl. Below that hood, slab-sided body panels hang traditional door handles and a familiar Chrysler mirror above stylish marker lamps, subtle Road Runner call-outs and a requisite pentastar emblem. And at the back of the car, polished exhaust tips found a second broad bumper beneath crystal clear taillights and premium decklid trim. ENGINE Toss the vivid hood and you'll find 472 cubic inches of Hemi fury! Supplied by Bouchillon Performance Engineering, that balanced and dyno-ed mill utilizes a Scat 4340 crank, Scat 4340 rods, Diamond pistons, Mahle rings and a Comp hydraulic cam to twist 525 horsepower into 540 lb./ft. of torque. That star-studded lineup lives in a Hemi Orange Mopar Performance block, which hangs polished valve covers, Trend 4130 pushrods and lightweight aluminum heads over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. Era-correct Carters and a big aluminum intake supply a perfect mixture of fuel and air. Compression is sparked by quality Taylor plug wires, which are snapped onto a Mopar Performance distributor. And a Chrysler-branded radiator utilizes an aluminum water pump to cool resultant combustion. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks great, from its gray latch and bright fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and tagged MoPar battery. And functionally, a quick turn of the car's ignition results in big power and great acoustics. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Park this bird on a lift and you'll find a solid chassis that's no stranger to sunny miles and good times. At the center of those bones, a rebuilt A727 3-speed features upgraded internals that do well pacing the buff Hemi powerplant. That '70s-era auto applies power to a familiar Dana 60, which spins a Sure Grip differential around 3.73 gears and proven Moser axles. Below that first-rate drivetrain, a fully sorted suspension has been completely rebuilt to include staggered leaf springs, factory power steering, and power drum brakes that operate on low vacuum at idle. The aforementioned acoustics are created by large, true-dual pipes, which make excellent use of an H-shaped crossover, clean DynoMax mufflers and polished tips. Power meets the pavement via reproduction steelies, which spin redlined 215/70R15 BF Goodrich Silvertown Radials around clean Plymouth center caps. And naturally, the car's original, lightly undercoated floors feature fresh stainless fluid lines and a fresh stainless fuel tank. INTERIOR Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it seems old school American muscle cars only needed black vinyl, a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this Road Runner's solid doors, you'll find a cockpit where legendary MoPar power melds seamlessly with a stylish, no-nonsense driving environment. At the center of the car's floors, front bucket and rear bench seats have been stuffed with firm padding and topped with pleated covers. At the sides of those seats, weather-free door panels hang chrome-tinged armrests under bright trim and glossy frames. At the bottom of those panels, tight carpet appears fresh and free of fading. On top of that carpet, a silver-trimmed console anchors a curved shifter between factory courtesy lamps. The car's all-business dash hangs rebuilt factory gauges beside a Plymouth Solid State 8-track player. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring. And behind the passengers, the car's fully restored trunk is authentic all the way down to its full-size spare, refurbished jack and simple decklid decal. Numbers-matching cars are great, but classics like this fully restored Road Runner are what make this hobby so much fun. It combines a slew of trophy winning ingredients with a price that's quite a bit lower than most finicky show queens. And best of all, you'll have a fully sorted street fighter that can be driven for years to come! If you're ready to relive the golden age of Detroit in a muscle car you can actually enjoy, pick up the phone and claim this awesome yellow MoPar! Free from all the nonsense add-ons that have increasingly clouded our driving experience for the better part of five decades, the car is tailor-made to be one of the most exclusive and uninhibited classics on American roads. And, in addition to having a number's-matching 426 and correct row-it-yourself gearbox, this impressive Plymouth wears a professional restoration that's highlighted by correct Platinum Metallic pigment. If you're in the market for some solid, investment grade metal that'll continue to rise in value, here's your next prospect! BODYWORK/TRIM Assembled at Chrysler's Lynch Road facility in May of 1969, this spectacular pentastar is the beneficiary of a professional restoration that appears to be holding up very well. During that thorough rebuild, the car's straight body, which includes solid-closing doors on top of great panel alignment, was massaged into virtually flawless surfaces. Once those surfaces were completely clean and fully prepped, a sinister coat of correct Platinum Metallic 2-stage was buffed to a glossy shine. And, according to the car's accompanying documentation, this clean Plymouth now rolls as a precise replication of its spring 1969 appearance with the exception of a basic Black interior. ENGINE Toss this coupe's light hood and you'll find an original, 426 cubic inch Hemi V8 that's authenticated by a famous 2468330 casting number and matching partial VIN. As Plymouth's top option for power hungry gearheads, Chrysler's legendary elephant block utilizes cast iron heads, an oversquare bore, a forged steel crank, forged steel rods, forged aluminum pistons and a hydraulic cam to twist stout 10.25 to 1 compression into a stated 425 horsepower and 490 lb./ft. of torque. All that high performance hardware spins in a glossy, Hemi Orange block that hangs attractive, Organisol-coated valve covers over correct, low-restriction exhaust manifolds. A perfect mixture of fuel and air is supplied by correct Carter carburetors and a correct aluminum intake. Compression is sparked by pliable wires that are snapped onto a correct points distributor. And resultant combustion is cooled by a big, 26-inch radiator that's fitted with Mopar-branded hoses via old school squeeze clamps. Visually, the car's Platinum engine compartment is clean and understated... Well, as understated as a classic Hemi can be. The big mill performs as well as it ever has. And naturally, details like factory decals, a MoPar-topped battery and a familiar Chrysler washer reservoir have been professionally restored or completely replicated. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Slide under this solid B-Body and you'll find a lucid chassis that's fully sorted and ready for the road. Bright silver paint highlights exceptionally clean floors. Behind the Hemi, a correct A833 4-speed is tight and shifts like new. That stalwart gearbox sends power to a correct Dana 60 axle, which spins a Sure Grip differential around 3.54 gears. Naturally, that spirited driveline hangs in a completely restored suspension, which is fitted with Gas-A-Just shocks and factory power steering. Stops come courtesy of big drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by large-diameter tubes, which bend around an H-shaped crossover and Flowmaster dual-chamber mufflers. And all this MoPar goodness rolls on Platinum Metallic wheels, which twist 205/75R15 Coker Classic redlines around Plymouth Division center caps. INTERIOR Swivel this Plymouth's level doors and you'll find a familiar Black interior that's functional, straightforward and very livable. A retrofitted front bucket and rear bench seating combination is wrapped in pliable vinyl covers that display hardly any signs of severe wear. Below those seats, stain-free carpet frames a correct Hurst shifter. At the sides of that carpet, black door panels perfectly complement black door frames. In front of those panels, a "road runner" branded dash seats standard telemetry above a cool Chrysler Solid State. In front of the driver, a simple steering wheel spins a correct horn bar around a colorful Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, a nicely finished trunk hides a correct jack and spare tire between a plaid mat and new decklid decal. HISTORICAL INFORMATION Since our sale includes both an original broadcast sheet and a Galen Govier VIN and fender tag decode, there's no questioning this Plymouth's mostly accurate restoration. The 'coolest of the cool' that's survived almost 50 years of vehicle downsizing, fuel thirsty gearheads and stoplight fisticuffs? Well, you don't have to worry about getting pinched back to reality this time because this killer Plymouth Road Runner Superbird is a fully documented, mostly original muscle car that's comfortable on either the strip or the show field! Not only is this awesome coupe a highly exclusive wing car that sports just 29,768 miles, it also wears 100% original sheet metal, features a correct 440 6 BBL powertrain and sports a fresh white on black color combination. If you're looking for a bad to the bone investment that's fun to look at, a blast to drive and ready to hit the show circuit as soon as it rolls out of our showroom; congratulations, you've found your next car! With an original window sticker and two original broadcast sheets, there's no questioning this Plymouth's well-preserved authenticity. When you take a close look at this super clean coupe, it seems only fitting that the car's entire 43 year existence was spent in the hands of one very meticulous owner. Purchased new by Ronald North of Huntington, Indiana, it's the recent beneficiary of a modern, two-stage paint job. Thanks to very little exposure to the elements, that unique body was a solid, all-original piece that needed nothing more than prep work. A correct layer of Alpine White presents exceptionally well and, when combined with matte horizontals and correct Superbird call-outs, creates iconic muscle car looks. And today, this Plymouth is one stunningly straight showpiece that has no gremlins, suffers no thin spots and displays a high level of fit and finish. As you step back and stare at this 'bird's sinuous body, many adjectives come to mind. Wicked... Astonishing... Dreadful... Infamous... But, in reality, Chrysler spent a lot of R&D time making sure the car fit one specific descriptor: functional. Every piece of this Road Runner was whittled to maximum efficiency in pursuit of one goal: lapping large race tracks at a very high rate of speed. At the front of the car, a downforce producing nose hangs sleek, flip up headlights between a small grille, standard hood pins, hidden parking lamps and a body-matched chin spoiler. Behind that nose, drag reducing air extractors lead the eye to a cool 'Hustle Stuff' tachometer, clean glass and a show worthy combination of straight stainless trim and pliable black vinyl. At the sides of those extractors, prominent fender lines and Superbird-specific C-pillars frame bright marker lights, a correct Chrysler mirror and familiar chrome door handles. And at the back of the car, a Superbird-specific wing rides above a small "road runner" emblem, clear tail lights, a prominent "P L Y M O U T H" script, bright exhaust tips and an original chrome bumper. Raise this coupe's long hood and you'll find a correct, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that's fully detailed, completely sorted and ready to go. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared, Plymouth's 390 horsepower, 440 6 BBL powerplant was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through a correctly decaled cleaner to three 2-barrel carburetors, which are bolted over a glossy, Hemi Orange intake. In front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences fire through fresh Chrysler Electronic Suppression wires. Behind those wires, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling is supplied by a big, 26-inch radiator, which utilizes pliable hoses and simple squeeze clamps to send water past fresh V-belts and rebuilt engine accessories. Power is provided by a tagged Mopar red cap battery, which is wired to a correct Chrysler voltage regulator. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its new decals and Alpine White fenders to its old school fluid reservoir and clean Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of this Plymouth's ignition results in a rumbling, high-performance idle, hot or cold. Hoist this specialized B-Body and you'll find a fully sorted undercarriage that, thanks to an acute combination of low mileage and impeccable maintenance, rolls exactly the way it came down Lynch Road's assembly line. A clean layer of undercoating protects weather-free floorpans that, while exceedingly nice, certainly aren't a stranger to the blacktop. Behind the Super Commando mill, an original A727 Torqueflite, which wears a matching 162346 partial VIN, provides solid, poignant shifts through all three gears. That proven transmission sends power to an 8.75-inch Chrysler rear end which is equipped with correct 3.55 gears. At the front of the car, Chrysler's beefy Hemi suspension utilizes Cosmoline-replicating torsion bars, an A12 sway bar and standard power steering to make quick work of big bumps and tight curves. At the back of the car, that same Hemi suspension hangs correctly staggered springs at the sides of a painted, leak-free fuel tank. Stops come courtesy of standard power front disc and rear drum brakes. Exhaust is handled by aluminized tubes that bend around an H-pipe crossover, traditional turbo mufflers and correct stainless tips. And all this Mopar goodness rolls on pristine Rallye wheels which twist F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around subdued center caps and bright stainless trim rings. Inside this famous Plymouth, a completely original interior is clean, well-optioned and surprisingly stylish. Seating, an ultra-rare all-bench set up, displays no significant signs of wear. In front of those benches, a straight, crack-free dash hangs original factory gauges beside a familiar Music Master radio. At the bottom of that dash, well-maintained carpet is protected by rubber, "road runner" branded floor mats. At the sides of that carpet, original door panels carry the seat's silver stripe motif around black frames, dent-free stainless and traditional chrome hardware. Above those panels, old school shoulder belts frame a tight, black headliner. In front of the driver, a monochromatic steering wheel spins a silver horn ring around a cool Road Runner centerpiece. And behind the passengers, the car's cavernous trunk is complete with a plaid mat, dual decklid decals, a correct tire and an original jack. Available with the same ground-pounding big blocks as its bestial brothers, the GTX was a refined alternative for the guy who wanted serious performance wrapped in line-topping class. This MoPar Nationals award-winner, 1 of roughly 3,000 GTXs produced for the 1971 model year, is the kind of classic that'll show, and go, just as well as any square edged '60s fodder. And, speaking of numbers, the car wraps an original 440/3-speed drivetrain in a fantastic, five-figure restoration. When it comes to rare American Muscle cars, it doesn't get much better than Plymouth. If you're ready for some old school Detroit metal that can be enjoyed without fear, take a look at this stylish GTX! BODYWORK/TRIM This B-Body's thorough restoration began when its solid shell was meticulously stripped, lightly massaged and carefully coated in correct Sassy Grass 2-stage. Once cured, that pigment was detailed with black war paint, appropriate "440" callouts and a vivid deck decal. And, with everything fresh and ready to roll, the car was buffed to a clean and substantial presence. Take one look down the profile of this sweet Plymouth and you'll see whittled panels that have been straightened and finessed far past anything that rolled out of the factory. Pull the car in to the sunlight and its glossy glow accurately reproduces Chrysler's voluptuous, 'fuselage' design while offering a level of showmanship that can only be achieved with today's advanced paint technology. And, in summary, it all adds up to one super slick, all-American muscle car that, admirably, is a bit outside the MoPar norm. Unlike many striped and decaled creations, which tend to throw good taste out the window, this awesome coupe seamlessly balances a cool personality with flashy good looks. At the front of the car, a wide, "GTX" branded grille hangs bright headlights between a polished bumper, clear parking lamps and small chin spoilers. At the top of that grille, a peaked hood centers small signal indicators in front of like-new glass, straight stainless trim and a body-matched mirror. At the sides of that hood, cupped door handles, bold "GTX" emblems and detailed rocker trim highlight smooth, professionally finished bodylines. And at the back of the car, a second polished bumper hangs tilted taillights between a large spoiler and slotted exhaust tips. ENGINE Lift the hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch Super Commando V8 that supplements a correct 2536480 casting number and July (7) 21st (21), 1970 (70) casting date with a matching partial VIN. Almost as feared as Plymouth's storied 440 6 Barrel, this proven mill, a very common member of the RB family, was designed to combine great performance with staunch, relatively mild road manners. Oxygen whips through the car's Satin Black, dual-snorkel air cleaner to a big Carter 4-barrel, which is bolted to a factory-spec intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences spark between a MoPar voltage regulator and MoPar Electronic Suppression cables. At the sides of that intake, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. A stalwart MoPar red cap kicks everything in to motion. A Comp hydraulic, flat-tappet cam ensures combustion. Cooling comes courtesy of a 26-inch Chrysler-stamped radiator, which rides in front of pliable MoPar hoses and simple squeeze clamps. And aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its correct markings all the way to its old school washer reservoir. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION This Plymouth's chassis specs leave little question as to why Chrysler's B-body architecture was such a huge hit with performance car fans. Take a step under our lift and you'll find a tough ol' stoplight skeleton that's been carefully refurbished to appear just as it rolled off St. Louis' storied assembly lines. Behind the thumpin' big block, an original A727 Torqueflite twists power to a correct Chrysler 8.75-inch rear end. Below that proven drivetrain, a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been completely rebuilt to include correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Opposite that over sprayed chassis, armored floors sport everything from a fresh fuel tank and fresh fluid lines to correctly coated wheel wells. Turns come courtesy of correct power steering. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing, 2.5-inch pipes, which jettison cooked dinosaurs through an H-shaped crossover, throaty mufflers and slotted stainless tips. And power meets the pavement through chrome Magnum 500s, which spin F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around polished center caps. INTERIOR If you're like us and prefer your muscle cars flashy, you'll definitely appreciate the contrast exhibited by this coupe's striking interior. The car's vivid perches are firm to the touch, featuring pliable covers that present very well. In front of that bench and bucket combo, a warp-free dash frames factory gauges, factory air conditioning and a small AM/FM radio in bright wood applique, fine silver trim and an orange "GTX" emblem. Below that dash, a wood-trimmed and black-dyed console centers a premium Chrysler stereo in front of a T-shaped shifter. At the base of that console, "GTX" branded floor mats protect fade-free carpet. At the sides of that carpet, white door panels unite optional power windows with ornate stainless and a sprinkle of faux wood. In front of the driver, a familiar Chrysler Tuff Wheel laps stainless-trimmed foot pedals. And behind the passengers, a restored and decaled trunk features a correct jack, a full-size spare tire and a fresh mat. But, simply put, the true theme of the resto-mod movement is: the best of everything. And if there was ever a textbook example of a true-to-form resto-mod, this Plymouth Road Runner has to be it. Showcasing the hard work of very skilled enthusiasts who understand how to enhance the best attributes of a slick, frame-off restoration, this exemplary coupe features a slew of top-shelf modifications. If you're in the market for an incredible classic that can be shown and driven with the best muscle cars on the road, we've got two words for you: "Beep! Beep!" BODYWORK/TRIM After spending most of its life as a clean driver, this awesome B-Body was the perfect starting point for a professional, rotisserie restoration that mixed a killer engine with classic MoPar attitude. The car's straight body was stripped to bare metal, fitted to a few floor pan patches and finished with a fresh trunk pan. Once those planes were completely clean and fully prepped, quality PPG basecoat was detailed with custom Road Runner graphics and sealed in glossy clear. And today, this primed and polished Plymouth sits as one super slick road warrior that features a perfect combination of no-nonsense looks and vicious street manners. Admittedly, the Road Runner was a little more ambiguous than its Dodge-branded siblings, but a lot of people like that contrast and dig the model's super clean looks. At the front of this coupe, a black-trimmed, body-width grille hangs four H4 headlights above a mirrored bumper and clear parking lamps. Above that grille, a familiar A12-style hood flows to like-new glass that's sandwiched between fresh stainless trim, silver stainless wipers and filled cowl. At the sides of that hood, subtly sculpted panels hang a chrome driver's mirror above shaved fenders, shaved doors and sectioned quarters. And at the back of those panels, a clean decklid centers a color-keyed wing above factory-fresh taillights and a second mirrored bumper. ENGINE What do you do when you have a sweet MoPar muscle car that needs a heart transplant? You call Alpharetta, Georgia's Grimes Automotive Machine and order something akin to this Plymouth's 500 cubic inch Chrysler big block. According to 2013 dyno results, that mill, essentially a bored, stroked and built 440, moves to the tune of 579 dyno-proven horsepower and 625 lb./ft. of tire-spinning torque! At the top of the block, a K&N XStream air cleaner forces wind in to a big Holley carburetor that's cinched to braided fuel lines. At the base of that carb, a MoPar intake feeds air and fuel to Edelbrock Performer RPM heads, which have been ported, polished and treated to a multi-angle valve job. Beneath those heads, forged internals, which include an Eagle crank, Scat rods and Wiseco pistons, combine with roller lifters, roller rockers and a custom-grind Comp hydraulic roller cam to create stout 10.5 to 1 compression. That compression is sparked by an MSD Pro-Billet distributor, which sequences fire between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and MSD Super Conductor plug wires. When that fire flashes, Hooker Super Competition headers ensure the engine breathes well. At the front of those headers, snazzy March serpentine components spin a billet power steering pump and polished Powermaster alternator at the sides of a quality Edelbrock water pump. At the front of the engine bay, a proven Griffin radiator makes good use of dual SPAL puller fans. There's an impressive roster of hardware that includes, but isn't limited to, a Milodon windage tray, a Wilwood master cylinder and tough ARP bolts. And aesthetically, the Jet Black mill provides an excellent contrast to the car's bright red fenders, with details like tubular chassis supports, color-keyed Mopar Performance valve covers and intricate breathers supplementing power with polish. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Like its slick exterior and clean engine bay, the bottom of this coupe is a great combination of past and present. The powerful engine sends thrust to a Keisler-sourced Tremec TKO600 5-speed that enables the car to comfortably attain highway speeds. That proven transmission twists a tough Keisler driveshaft and familiar 8.75-inch axle, which spin a posi-trac differential around big, 3.91 gears. That awesome drivetrain rides between beefy sway bars, Fatman drop spindles, modern coil-overs, small lowering blocks and Competition Engineering shocks. Turns come courtesy of factory-style power steering. Power-assisted Wilwood calipers provide stops. 3-inch exhaust employs electronic cutouts in front of dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Torque meets the pavement through polished Billet Specialties SLGs, which spin 245/45ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 295/45ZR18 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs. Naturally, the car's painted frame and undercoated floors are solid and display no signs of major rust or serious weathering. And yes, in typical resto-mod fashion, there's a roster of great finishing components, including stainless fluid lines, polygraphite bushings and sturdy subframe connectors. INTERIOR Pop this Plymouth's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a custom leather interior that plays on the car's incredible aesthetic. An attractive bucket and bench combo has, like the rest of the cockpit, been decked in clean, silver accents that do a great job of mimicking snakeskin. In front of those mitts, a custom, color-keyed dash hangs Auto Meter Ultra-Lite II telemetry beside an MP3-compatible Pioneer head unit that controls Kicker speakers, a Kicker amplifier and Kicker subwoofers. At the base of that dash, a custom console centers a TKO Pistol Grip shifter in front of a broad armrest, a small fire extinguisher and metal cupholders. Beneath that console, tight carpet bridges the gap between machined foot pedals, stainless sill plates and body-matched doorjambs. At the edges of that carpet, custom door panels hang polished handles between glossy frames, snakeskin armrests and small switches for modern power windows. In front of the driver, a polished and half-wrapped Billet Specialties steering wheel was specifically chosen to match the car's rolling stock. And behind the Dynamat-wrapped cockpit, a custom, Road Runner-themed trunk features plenty of room for car show supplies. The beneficiary of a professional, frame-off restoration, this sweet coupe wraps 472 cubic inches of big block bliss in head-turning yellow aesthetics. If you've always dreamed of owning first-class MoPar muscle, but don't want the inherent stress that comes with authenticity, here's the perfect solution! BODYWORK/TRIM An authentic J-code Road Runner, the car graduated from a 2009 rotisserie restoration that married an exceptionally solid body with high quality replacement quarters. Once that body's broad shouldered profile was correctly aligned, a smooth coat of yellow 2-stage was complemented with an old school hood stripe. And while there are a few oddballs thrown in to that mix, the vast majority of those offerings are immaculate first generation cars that, while awesome, remind some people just a bit too much of Grandma's Belvedere. So, what about the classic car collector who wants a more tailored, more unique Road Runner? No worries, we have something for them too! A concours-restored, numbers-matching showpiece that's graced multiple magazine covers, this killer coupe will show, and go, just as well as any of its older brethren. Rare from day one, the car is 1 of only 109 6 Barrel/Torqueflite Road Runners produced for the 1971 model year and, currently, is believed to be 1 of only 12 that still exist. So, if you're ready for some exclusive MoPar muscle that's a little outside of '60s boxy, take a long look at this Rallye Red Plymouth! BODYWORK/TRIM Produced in Windsor, Canada, this slick Road Runner met its first owner, a 23 year old car enthusiast, at L.P. Stuart Plymouth in Washington D.C. on March 17th, 1971. That young man would enjoy the car until 1985 when, suffering mildly rusted corners, it was posted in the For Sale section of a local trade paper. The car's second owner, dedicated MoPar enthusiast Leon Perahia, wanted to conduct a concours-style restoration using only NOS parts and, after eight years of sourcing, completed what had become an incredible project. That project began with a rotisserie breakdown that included media-blasting all the car's panels all the way to bare metal. Once that metal was smooth and clean, NOS quarters were welded up. With those quarters assembly line-solid, a correct coat of Rallye Red paint was complemented with a correct, black roof. And, after six months of assembly, this Plymouth rolled out of Perahia's garage an ultra-straight, fully detailed award winner! Refinished during the thorough restoration, every bit of this MoPar's factory ornamentation presents extremely well. At the front of the car, a broad, chrome-trimmed grille centers a small Road Runner likeness between bright headlights and crystal clear parking lamps. Behind that grille, a striped Air Grabber Hood centers an otherwise wind-cheating scoop between stainless pins, an intricate Plymouth header and optional turn signal indicators. Above that hood, like-new glass rides behind pristine frames, straight drip rails and color-keyed mirrors. Below that glass, slab-sided body panels hang mirrored door handles and dent-free wheel lips between segmented marker lamps, Road Runner quarter regalia and bold "440-6" call-outs. And at the back of the car, a broad bumper centers fresh tail lights between a small Road Runner emblem, a striped valance and slotted exhaust tips. ENGINE Lift the car's long hood and you'll find an original, 440 cubic inch RB V8 that supplements a correct 2536480 casting number and matching partial VIN with a hydraulic, flat-tappet cam and high quality stroker kit. More popular than Chrysler's famed Hemi, and almost as feared, Plymouth's storied 440 6 Barrel was designed to be the industry's best combination of comfort, streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through the car's Air Grabber Hood to an NOS-decaled cleaner and three Holley 2-barrels that are bolted to a factory-spec intake. At the front of that intake, a familiar points distributor sequences spark between an old school MoPar voltage regulator and correct, Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. At the sides of that intake, Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast correctly restored exhaust manifolds. Cooling comes courtesy of a 26-inch, NOS-tagged radiator, which rides in front of Chrysler-branded hoses and simple squeeze clamps. And a stalwart MoPar red cap kicks everything in to motion. Aesthetically, the entire engine bay looks spectacular, from its correct markings and Rallye Red fenders all the way to its old school fluid reservoir and familiar Road Runner horn. And functionally, a quick turn of the car's ignition results in a rumbling high-performance idle, hot or cold. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION This Plymouth's chassis specs leave little question as to why Chrysler's B-body architecture was such a huge hit with performance car fans. Take a step under our lift and you'll find a tough ol' stoplight skeleton that's been carefully refurbished to appear just as it rolled off Windsor's storied assembly lines. Behind the thumpin' RB, an original A727 Torqueflite twists power to a correct, NOS-restored Dana 60 Super Track Pak rear end. Below that proven drivetrain, a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has been completely rebuilt to include correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. Opposite that satin chassis, painted floors sport everything from a new fuel tank and fresh fluid lines to correctly coated wheel wells. Turns come courtesy of correct power steering. Exhaust is handled by free-flowing, 2.5-inch pipes, which jettison cooked dinosaurs through an H-shaped crossover, throaty mufflers and slotted stainless tips. And power meets the pavement through silver Rallye wheels, which spin G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs around bright trim rings and charcoal center caps. INTERIOR Counter to today's obsession with technology and convenience, it seems old school American muscle cars only needed simple stitching, a bit of stainless trim and essential instrumentation to strike a perfect balance of 'instantly classic' and 'perpetually cool'. And when you open this Road Runner's solid doors, you'll find an NOS cockpit that, thanks to stitching by Legendary Auto Interiors, creates a stylish, no-nonsense driving environment. Front and center, correct bucket seats frame a correct console, which frames a correct T-handle shifter. At the sides of those seats, weather-free door panels hang fresh chrome hardware under fresh stainless trim. At the bottom of that console, like-new carpet stretches tight under stainless-trimmed foot pedals. In front of the driver, a Road Runner-branded steering wheel spins around rebuilt gauges and an old school Chrysler Solid State radio. And behind the cockpit, a dressed and decaled trunk features a correct jack and full-size spare tire. I mean, it'd have to be a car that's fast, stylish, technological, luxurious and built with an astute attention to detail. It'd also have to be a car that's exclusive, turns heads and has potential for major collectability. How about this super low-mileage Prowler? With an aluminum V6, a modern 4-speed, an aluminum-intensive frame, a hand-built body and a stylish leather interior, it's every bit as meticulous as it is reliable. And since only 11K of these purpose-built halo cars were produced, you'd better believe it's poised for a surge in popularity. If you're looking for a showroom-fresh cruiser that's cool, comfortable and ready to roll, this Plymouth is your kind of car! BODYWORK/TRIM Penned by Chrysler engineers who were given free rein to create whatever they wanted in a sportster type vehicle, this pristine drop-top exhibits the perfect combination of hot rod style and advanced technology. Today, after years of fastidious work to keep its 2-stage urethane clean and ultra-shiny, the car's glossy factory body looks brand new in virtually every way. And speaking of that pin striped body, it's 1 of only 711 Prowler Silver Prowlers built for the 2000 model year. Judging by this roadster's mirror-like reflections, it's probably never seen rain or, for that matter, been outside of a climate-controlled garage long enough to really know what sunshine is. Since all Prowlers were completely hand assembled at Chrysler's Conner Avenue facility in Detroit, Michigan, they typically show stellar fit and above average build quality. And this one, with its narrow gaps, solid-closing doors and tight-sealing top, looks and feels better than most cars twice our asking price! ENGINE When Prowlers finally hit the streets, many purists were upset that a V6 was the only powertrain option. What those purists failed to realize was: 1) with 253 horses and 250 lb./ft. of torque, the car's 3.5 liter, 24-valve SOHC V6 was making virtually the same power as Chrysler's Magnum V8s, and 2) when combined with the car's lightweight chassis and low center of gravity, it posted some very impressive performance numbers. Mechanically, this Plymouth's all-aluminum engine is showroom new in just about every possible way. Naturally, the mill has benefitted from basic maintenance but, beyond that, everything is essentially fresh out of the box. It certainly appears that the car has been driven often enough to keep every system in top operating condition. And, not only does the smooth sixer fire up instantly and idle perfectly, it moves its relatively lightweight payload with real authority. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION Behind that buff V6, a 42LE 4-speed automatic transaxle, which features an 'AutoStick' gear change setting, is more of a toy than a functional performance improvement. But it fits the Prowler's persona perfectly, and far more of today's "real" hot rods are built with automatics than stick shifts. So, who can blame Chrysler for doing their homework and giving the public what it actually wants? That road-ready drivetrain is held off the ground by an aluminum-intensive chassis, which is equipped with an independent double A-arm front and multi-link rear suspension. Koni coil-overs combine with standard stabilizer bars and power rack-and-pinion steering to carve curves for lunch and eat potholes for dinner. Stops come courtesy of four composite discs, which measure 11 inches up front and 13 inches out back. The engine growls a rowdy, throaty exhaust note through two fat pipes, which exit just under the rear bumpers. A bit of flash is provided by standard chrome wheels, which spin 225/45R17 Goodyear Eagle GS-Ds in front of 295/40R20 Goodyear Eagle GS-Ds. And all that advanced hardware results in a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, making this roadster an absolute blast to drive! INTERIOR Inside Chrysler's neo street rod you'll find a fashionable Agate interior that represents drop-top cruising at its very best. At the center of the cockpit, the driver and passenger benefit from plush leather seats that are stitched around monochromatic Prowler logos. In front of the driver, a factory tach is perched top-dead-center of a tilt steering wheel that anchors redundant audio buttons opposite factory cruise control. At the front of the car, a 150 MPH speedometer centers four accessory gauges inside a silver instrument panel. A short, factory shifter controls Chrysler's highly regarded AutoStick feature. Naturally, the windows, locks and mirrors are all power operated. There's a pair of protective, "Prowler" branded floor mats. And a superb 320-watt, 7-speaker sound system comes standard with a 6-disc CD changer that's located just behind the passenger's seat. OUR SALE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION AND ACCESSORIESThe car's original Owner's Manual and component literatureMiscellaneous service recordsA matching trailerA convertible cowl coverTwo Prowler-branded bagsA few spare partsMiscellaneous interior baubles The bottom line: This is A LOT of bang for your buck! Low miles, great looks, excellent performance and the kind of ownership experience most OEMs can't touch. What more could you ask for? Not only is this Prowler fast, it's also a very competent cruiser that features plenty of space to stretch out and enjoy the warm summer sunshine. If you're looking for a low-mileage drop-top that's a tour de force of style and attitude, this Plymouth is your next car! About This Auction Please note that all sales are binding and final. This is exactly why we created the RKM Performance Center. Being proud members of SEMA, ARMO, HRIA and the North Carolina Motorsports Association, the RKM Performance Center is a nationally recognized shop; best known for high level OEM restorations and custom builds.
