1971 Plymouth Duster Up for sale today and ready for Immediate purchase is this beautiful 1971 Vitamin C Plymouth Duster. Serious interest can call or text me at 321-243-0328 for any information needed with a quick response 8-10pm est time. Very hard to keep it brief but call if info is needed I invite any third party inspection prior to purchase. We are familiar in international sales so we can assist with storing and exporting if needed. I am selling this car for a relative and he has owned this car for over 8 years. New direction in cars is brought the car to the sale arena. This car is ready to cruise anywhere its in excellent shape and always garage kept. Clear Florida Title registered and driven. BodyRecently, a ground up restoration was performed on the already well preserved car. The solid body is in great condition and the paint is smooth as glass. Pictured below you can see the condition of this car at every angle above and below. The only rust in the car prior to restoration was a in the trunk tub and rear lower qtrs. Everything was cut out replaced with aftermarket panels prepped, preserved and undercoated where necessary to insure the car will last another 40 years. The entire trunk tub was replaced with a quality replacement panel, due to poor quality patch panel parts. The trim tag was removed at some point but going by the vin we have determined its a 340 car with rally dash but presumably a bench seat model, but without the tag we are unsure beyond that. A 4' cowl hood was installed and built by AAR of cocoa the original factory hood is included and in great shape. He's owned the car for 8 years and it was a dark blue when purchased so the hood remains that way. DrivelineThe original H code car features a professional built 1972 340 with performance upgrades at every angle and listed below. Its was pulled during restoration dressed, detailed and runs as great as it looks. Getting it through the gears is a 4spd A-833 transmission that's shifts strong and has a new clutch pack and bearing. Its looks like the car was converted to 4 spd, but from underneath it was a professional conversion and almost fooling until thorough investigation. The rear set up is bad ass is a 8.75 posi with a Riley motor sports bolt in Street Lynx 4 link suspension and QA1 adj coil overs that handles the 400+hp engine nicely. The gearing is unknown but feels to be around the 3.73 area from our experience. A true dual mandrel exhaust was built for the car and getting the rumble out the rear is handled by a pair of 2.5' Stainless Magnaflow 3 chamber mufflers with H-pipe. The car features a Wildwood power disc brake set up with 2 piece drilled & slotted rotors with 4 piston calipers stopping a freshly polished set of Weld Pro stars with new tires. Its manual steering and although its lacking power its not to bad to drive with the skinnies up front. The entire front suspension has been replaced in the last 2 years with less then 2k miles on it. 1972 340 less then 10k miles since built 8 yeas ago. but recently resealed while removed. All maintence was performed on a monthly basis and the engine is in great shape and extremely strong. The car is very quick when you lean in it and very friendly when you want to cruise.Balanced and bored 30 overEdelbrock Performer Aluminum headsEdelbrock Air Gap intakeDemon 750 carburetorComp cam , weve lost the cam card but it was 2500-3000 rpm range specceramic coated headersMopar valve coveresStock rotating assembly w/forged pistonsElectronic Ignestimated 400hp comfortably at the flywheel but never racedA-833 4spd trans with new clutch and flywheel InteriorA bucket seat interior features New upholstery from top to bottom. The bucket seats are in excellent condition and sit comfortable. All the seat belts are in great working order. The factory Rally dash features all new gauges and circuit boards. All lights are working and everything functions as it should. Since its been a long time Florida car the heater controls are very tight. Its all hooked up and functions but will need some lube or effort. All the windows go up and down perfect and the glass is in great shape. A retro sounds auto stereo was installed and jams the tunes out of Alpine 6x9 speakers. IssuesThe hood has chipped the cowling a little and its pictured below, a 1.5" small scratch is in the drivers qtr but its very discreet, the Black Duster 340 Stripe Kit included will cover it up. The headers are low so they do drag in certain situations, other then that the car is in good shape Bidding and purchaseIts for sale as is, Listed locally and may be removed if sold. This particular 1972 Plymouth Duster 340, however, isn't some smog-strangled commuter, but one of Chrysler's hottest performance cars of the era, and it's exceptionally nice. Code V2 Tor-Red ideally captures the spirit of the times and stands out today for those of us who like a bit of nostalgia with our old cars. And while the Duster was technically an economy car, this one has had a bunch of time spent getting it into shape, both externally and under the hood. For a '72 Duster, this one must have been pretty clean to begin with, which is a rare thing all on its own, because the quality of the car is just over-the-top, particularly at this price. We're undecided as to whether this is an exceptional original car or a nicely restored unit, but the finish has a deep shine that shows well and it isn't perfect, so it'll keep everyone else guessing, too. The doors fit well, the quarters are smooth, and the blacked-out hood with 340 graphics and a white sport stripe along the flanks clearly identify this as a piece of Mopar muscle. The chrome and trim is probably original and looking its age, with some light pitting on the bumpers, but again, as a low-dollar high-performance machine, this one has a lot going for it. The basic theme continues inside with a super clean black bench seat interior, complete with matching carpets and door panels. It's got a matching set of Duster-logo floor mats and the Duster does a good job of blending economy and performance, with durable materials, a Hurst 4-speed shifter, and precious little else. And even as a value-priced entry, this Duster comes complete with a full array of informative gauges from the factory, although the tach and oil pressure gauge are not working. The woodgrained applique on the instrument panel warms things up a bit and we've always liked Chrysler's 3-spoke steering wheel, which looks sporty, not cheap. There is only an AM radio but that only means it's ready for the head unit of your choice and the rest is street-racer basic: crank windows, manual steering, and only a heater and defroster. The trunk is surprisingly large for a compact car like this, and carries a correct mat. Obviously there's a 340 cubic inch V8 under the hood and it's got a very authentic look that's right in line with other Mopar performance cars. The air cleaner advertises the 4-barrel carburetor underneath, there's Hemi Orange paint on the block, and a set of headers helps built low-end torque. Supporting equipment includes a big radiator, a fresh battery, and a new dual exhaust system with stock-style mufflers polished oval tips peeking out under the rear bumper. The 4-speed manual transmission was becoming an endangered species in 1972, but without it, this car becomes ho-hum, so we're thrilled to see it here. You'll find the original 8.75-inch rear end out back and the rest of the chassis look very clean and tidy with only a set of air shocks deviating from stock spec. 14-inch Rallye wheels offer a classic performance look and wear fat Firestone Firehawk radials. This neat little Plymouth is the perfect entry-level, high-quality muscle car with V8 power in a very affordable package. Well, things just got serious with this 1972 Duster coupe, which gets all the traditional Duster stuff right (low cost, cool look) and adds a 21st century twist in the form of a fuel-injected 5.7 liter Hemi and a 5-speed automatic transmission, creating one heck of a cool resto-mod with an even cooler price. There's just no way you could build this car yourself for the asking price, and if this car is still in the showroom two weeks from now, I'll be shocked. The dark blue paint and strobe stripes give it a familiar look, and if nothing else, the guys at Chrysler were keeping the performance look alive in the dark days of the early 1970s. Add in a blacked-out hood and a Go-Wing out back, and you get a compact package that looks like fun and wants to run. Paint and bodywork are acceptable, but at this price, you aren't expecting concours perfection anyway. Instead, it's pure driver-grade, and there's no shame in that, especially since it will be even more adept at luring in unsuspecting drivers on the street who figure it's just another garden-variety small block Duster. The decals are recent, so they're crisp and nicely rendered and the sheetmetal and panel gaps are quite good throughout, so it's obviously been a clean car all its life. Add in a few discreet HEMI emblems on the front fenders, however, and this car is going to generate a few double-takes. The interior got a modern makeover, too, but doesn't lose any of its honesty and working-class roots. The bench seat does a reasonable impersonation of buckets and the black upholstery is in good order with no splits or tears. Recent black carpets look good and offer a correct heel pad for the driver, and the fat steering wheel looks a lot like a vintage Tuff Wheel. The original dashboard is intact but the gauges are now modern digital units that look awesome behind a smoked Plexiglas screen and a custom B&M shifter allows do-it-yourself shifting of the modern-tech automatic gearbox. The original AM radio is in the dash, but it's overdue for a replacement anyway and it just doesn't go with the rest of the car anyway. There's also a reasonably spacious back seat and a giant trunk that still carries its original mat as well as a relocated battery. They moved that battery to make room for the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 that now lives under the hood. The fuel-injected Magnum is a neat fit in the Duster's engine bay and provides the instant starting, easy idling, and good fuel economy that we've come to expect from our modern daily drivers. It's a big performance boost over the original wheezing 318 and service access remains very good. Front disc brakes were added, along with a big electric fan for the radiator, and the wiring and plumbing is rather clean, especially that remote-mounted oil filter. Underneath you get a 5-speed automatic overdrive transmission, so this is a very easy highway cruiser and that injected HEMI sounds awesome exhaling through a custom Flowmaster exhaust system with turn-downs just ahead of the 8.75-inch rear axle. A new gas tank hangs out back and it really nails the sleeper vibe with those 14-inch Rallye wheels and white-letter tires. A very slick resto-mod with a ton of potential, this Duster already has all the hard work finished. It's a blast to drive and with a few additional tweaks, it could be one of the most amazing sleepers we've seen in a long time. 1972 Plymouth Duster (VS29H2B349xxx) factory 340c.i.(H-code) car, pistol grip 4-speed transmission and factory B5 blue paint! The Duster was completely rotisserie restored from top to bottom and looks absolutely incredible! It has the factory performance hood scoops for fresh air, fender tag, black 340 Duster side stripe and black trunk stripe, sharktooth grill, factory AM/FM radio, factory (A88) Duster 340 interior decor group, (G36) dual painted racing mirrors, inside hood release and rallye wheels with Firestone Indy 500 tires. The stunning high gloss GB5 Blue Fire metallic base/clear paint is the correct factory color. The Duster was rotisserie restored in 2009 from top to bottom and I just updated it with a light restoration, which included the engine bay, trunk compartment, show car wet sand/buffing, rallye wheels/tires, clutch and several other items. All of the body numbers match on the radiator support, VIN tag, fender tag and on the speaker shelf/trunk divider area. You must check these numbers to authenticate that it is a real 340 Duster. This is an absolutely beautiful car and one of the nicest factory 340 Dusters you will find with this type of high caliber restoration, correct factory color and a pistol grip 4-speed transmission! When doing a restoration of this caliber takes a lot of time, patience and money to be done correctly. Please understand this is not your average “driver” condition 340 Duster!!! PAINT AND BODYThe body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight with excellent seems and panel fit. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper to achieve the high caliber ultra shine finish. This long process alone took over 40 hours and the finish shows it! The Dusters sheet metal is believed to be mostly original with only the quarters, trunk extensions and front floor pans being replaced. The trunk floor, rear floor boards, rockers, fenders, hood, doors and frame rails are super clean and original. The Duster was painted about 6 years ago with base coat/clear coat and is in unbelievable condition… it has that deep wet look shine! It was done in a full rotisserie and completely disassembled to a shell as shown in the photos. If you think it looks good in the photos you need to see it in person! The paint in all the door jams, trunk, inner fenders and complete undercarriage looks fantastic. I am very critical on paint and there are only two extremely minor flaws in the paint, both located below the doors where the rocker meets the quarter at the seam. They are a very small blister just starting in the paint very low at the bottom edge (most of all A-body’s have this) and two high spots on the hood by the driver side hood scoop about the size of a penny. These are extremely minor flaws and barely noticeable. The underside of the trunk lid and hood are also in excellent stunning condition. The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished. GLASS, CHROME AND TRIMThe glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield is new and in excellent shape (PPG). The original Chrysler side and rear glass is in very nice condition and only the driver side door glass has a few scratches. All windows and locks operate as should. The front bumper and rear bumper looks to be rechromed and has excellent chrome. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine. The trim pieces are some of the nicest I’ve ever seen! INTERIORThe interior was re-done with factory seat covers, carpet, door panels, headliner, trunk divider, speaker shelf, dash pad, woodgrain on complete dash and sill plates. The factory gauge cluster is very nice condition. All factory gauges work and operate correctly. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory AM/FM radio also works, but AM only (wont switch over to FM). The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn, speedometer and dimmer switch work as should. DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSIONThe 340 makes excellent power, runs very strong through all the gears and sounds great. The original 340 was long gone before I got the car. The 340 was rebuilt to 1970 340 specs and has a steel crank. The 340 gives an excellent range of power and maintains 17lbs of vacuum as should. It has 2.02 “X” heads with the better flowing factory 340 manifolds (1970). I only use the Brad Penn High Performance oil, which was changed and is ready to go! It is one of the best oils on the market and already has the higher Zinc added in for older cars. The 340 has a casting date of 6-2-72 and engine casting # is 2780930-340-5. The 340 is topped of with the correct 340 1972 intake and has a brand new Edelbrock series 600 cfm carb with electric choke. The newer restored Chrysler factory radiator is a 1970 part number 3614025 and is correct for a 340 and also has a fan shroud. It cools excellent even on hotter summer days! The pistol grip 4-speed transmission is a 1968 (PP833 2505 0228 on the ID surface) and is absolutely awesome and a blast to drive! The Duster was a factory 3-speed on the floor (D13) and was upgraded to the 4-speed. We just installed a new McCleod street clutch and pressure plate that is very close to stock and easy for driving to cruises and shows. The rear end is a 8 3/4 with 3.23 posi center and a 489 case number on it. It has newer Mopar Performance stock leaf springs, hangers, bushings and rear shocks. The front suspension was completely done and installed in 2009 when the car was restored and is in great shape. This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent smooth running and driving 340 4-speed Duster! This Duster sets itself apart from others with a factory H-code car and a 4-speed that has been rotisserie restored from top to bottom! Please look at the photos closely to see the amount of detail work that was done! Even the undercarriage of the Duster is unbelievably clean and done right!ADDITIONAL PHOTOSYou can view additional photos on my shutterflyhttps://1972340dustergb5.shutterfly.com/pictures/8 Here are the fender tag numbers:V6X V8X EN2M21 M25 N23 N41 N42 R11GB5 U A88 G11 G36 J52GB5 D2B5 GB5 309 146045E55 D13 VS29 H2B 349xxxI typically restore and finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 25 years. This restoration-fresh 1973 Plymouth Duster provides the kind of cool, and quality, that most of us just don't see too often anymore. Take a moment to really appreciate this golden goddess. The Duster had one of the most aggressive A-body designs, and the factory-correct Golden Haze paint just highlights every curve perfectly. Of course, it also doesn't hurt that this coupe has a mountain of restoration receipts that proves how much was invested to make sure every gap is uniform, every bolt is new, and every panel is laser straight. As you continue to pour over every detail, you'll be happy to know that the Gold Duster name is not just an added fender decal. This is an original factory package car, which means the canopy vinyl roof also belongs here. If the gold wasn't enough shine for you, then the bumpers and five-star Jegs wheels add plenty of chrome to this near 24-karat car. But what we all really love is the hood. The twin-snorkel scoops are a great visual connection to some of its bigger Mopar brothers, and it adds to the overall mean-machine appearance that includes the aggressive black striping on the hood and sides. While we enjoy all the gold on the outside, it's nice to see a race-ready black vinyl interior. This was originally a bench seat car, but it has been given a nice set of high-back buckets for all-day comfort. This coupe is not only a Gold Duster, but it's also a Space Duster, too. This was Plymouth's name for the optional fold-down rear seat. This is not only another valuable standout package, but it's also quite handy if you ever use this cherished classic for practical purposes. The owner gets a mix of factory equipment with some nice upgrades. There's a an updated three-spoke steering wheel that offers good comfort under the power steering. Beyond that, the original style dashboard offers a surprisingly complete array of gauges. The heater/defrost, and working AM radio looked just the same as they did from when this car left Detroit over four decades ago. But just below that is the new B&M shifter, which is great for everything from banging your way through the automatic transmission, to just resting your hand while cruising. Under the hood is a freshly rebuilt 318 cubic-inch V8. Now we know that you've already noticed the 340 decals on the side of the car and on the chrome air cleaner, but all that dressing was for a good reason. This motor is only 100 miles off its rebuild, and during that time it had performance goodies added such as a 340 intake, a 600 CFM four-barrel carburetor, 340 heads, and a more aggressive camshaft. So now this motor was constructed to surpass even Plymouth's top-of-the-line 340 ci engine. The perfect complement to all these upgrades is the dual exhaust that provides the kind of rumble that lets everyone know you've arrived. But as you already know this Duster is out to be visually impressive, too. So just like the exterior, there is plenty of chrome to accent the gold engine bay, including polished valve covers, radiator, and fan shroud. Just because this all looks pristine doesn't mean you should be afraid to drive it. The automatic transmission, power brakes with discs up front, and power steering all mean this coupe is happy to tear up the streets all night long. This is a Plymouth that will turns heads with its beauty and uniqueness. It's time for you to go for the gold. Looking at this one-owner 1972 Plymouth Duster, you'll be amazed by the preservation of the body and interior and with a thrifty slant-six under the hood, it's a practical, fun, and surprisingly energetic starter collectable. Did we mention it comes with the original dealer invoice and owners manual? The bright red paint has a lot of years on it, yet given the fact that this car has lived its entire life in warm, dry, sunny Georgia, it's probably not a surprise that it still looks great. There's a gloss to the finish that no paint technique can duplicate and only time can make a car this honest. Sure, it's got a few signs of use (don't we all?), but this is the proverbial little old lady special that was tucked away whenever the weather turned foul and only used lightly. The doors, hood, and deck lid are all where the factory workers put them back in 1972 and there's just an intangible feel to a car that has never been apart that no restoration could ever duplicate. A black vinyl half roof makes the sporty Duster look a bit more formal, and the minimalist trim suits its economy-minded mission quite well. This is one of Chrysler's more attractive designs of the period, smooth and substantial without looking bloated, and even the chrome bumpers fit snugly to the body to enhance its sleek profile. The black interior is surprisingly comfortable and like the rest of the car, in amazing condition. Bench seats make it feel roomy inside and the bright metal inserts on the seat backs gives it an upscale impression when you first open the door. There's a remarkably complete array of instruments for the driver, all nestled into a woodgrained instrument panel, and the three-spoke steering wheel will be familiar to any Mopar fan. There's an A/C system under the dash which is an unusual addition to the affordable Duster, but the rest appears to be no-frills motoring, including the original AM radio in the dash. Check in the trunk and you'll find a reproduction mat, but one glance at the insides of the quarter panels confirms that they're original and untouched. The 225 cubic inch slant-six was one of Chrysler's better ideas. Durable and smooth, it has plenty of torque to move the lightweight Duster around in an entertaining way. It's been recently freshened and shows off bright corporate blue paint surrounded by a very clean engine bay. An original air cleaner fits snugly against the power brake booster and A/C compressor, which is now full of R134a refrigerant. It's backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission and the original rear end with highway-friendly gears inside, so this is a car you can drive regularly without emptying your bank account. There's plenty of originality underneath, which isn't a bad thing in this case, because there's nothing hiding under a layer of undercoating, just the signs of age that all cars of this vintage show. A single exhaust system has that distinctive slant-six sound and the ride is comfortable, not cheap-feeling. Recent whitewall radials have been fitted to sporty Rallye wheels, which always look right on '70s Chryslers. It probably won't make you rich overnight, but if you've been looking for an inexpensive way to enjoy the greatest hobby on earth, then this 1-owner, documented, bright Duster might just be the one for you. [email protected] History The original Plymouth Duster is a a semi-fastback two-door version of the compact-sized Plymouth Valiant automobile that was marketed by Chrysler in the U.S. from 1970to 1976 model years. Following the design changes on the Valiant models, the Duster also received a new hood, grille, front fenders, bumpers, and taillights for 1973. The taillights on previous years mounted from the inside and had a flush appearance. Starting in 1973, the taillights were mounted from the outside and were trimmed in chrome. These remained unchanged through 1976. Image Gallery About Vanguard Motor Sales started 25 years ago as a part time hobby.
