I obtained this car from an eccentric owner that purchased the car in 1982. The car has spent its life parked in a garage in a southern state out of weather and traffic. The interior is original, just as the state is reflected in the pictures. The exterior paint has been reapplied. The tires are the same tires that have been on the car for decades, so set of tires is in order. The body is straight with straight panels and panel gaps. The car shows no indication of previous damage. The engine is absolutely bone dry, which is an oxymoron for a turbo engine. The car sat in the same location in my garage for one week, and there was not a single drop on the ground. The engine does not smoke on start up, and it has that wonderful powerful Turbo purr that these 3.0 cars had. The color code is 443, the special order code is "Copper Brown Metallic" and the engine number is 6870401. There were 727 of these cars produced. I have priced the car so that the next buyer can refresh the car to one's own standards and still be in an equitable position. With only 23k original miles on the odometer, this 930 Turbo is in wonderful condition inside and out! This Porsche has had just two owners since new. The 2nd owner bought the car in Jan 2015 and put less than 1000 miles on the car. The paint appears to be original as we could not find any paint/tape lines, no over-spray and the paint gauge is consistent with that of an original car. It's hard to believe the car is already 30 years old! One can expect minimal signs of use from occasional driving but it's quite clear the previous owners went to great lengths to prevent the kind of dings, scuffs and other normal wear found on most examples. The finish has a beautiful shine with no oxidation or fading revealing it's been garage kept and had the proper care and handling. The glass, lenses, rubber seals and whale tail are all very nice with no cracks or fading. The Bridgestone Potenza tires are new all the way around the car and the Fuchs are free of curb rash and appear to have their original finish. The NON-SMOKER interior displays an equally exceptional quality which is hard to come by on vehicles of this vintage. The leather seats are in great condition with no rips or excessive wear. Mechanically, the car is about as sound as they come. The car starts on demand and the engine runs smooth with no hiccups, smoke or other abnormalities. The clutch feels good and the air conditioning is cold with an updated system. The original owner changed out the turbo/intercooler & exhaust with an upgraded version but kept the original parts which will be conveyed to the new owner (some of which are pictured). The car runs so well with the current set up that we couldn't bring ourselves to change it out however this can be done by the new owner or we can discuss having this done by our air-cooled specialist. lifted and the famed 930/Turbos started to flow back into the United States. For the last 4-years of the 930, these models were virtually identical. The 1989 came with the 5-speed and the 1986 had the last of the sealed beam U.S. headlights. Other than that, there really was no major difference. This Turbo had a production completion date of May 16th, 1986. It was a very late production and was sold new by YBH Porsche Audi of Edgemont, PA on July 3rd, 1986. It was well equipped with the following factory options: Sport seats with electric height adjustment (L/R) US standard emissions Limited slip differential Steering wheel with raised/extended hub Wheels painted Grand Prix white Blaupunkt radio Electric sliding sunroof Dunlop tires There were only a few owners in this 930’s history. Based on condition, it is clear that it was very well cared for and never used in inclement weather or abused. Most of the paint is original and verified with a paint meter. The original factory finished Fuchs look perfect with no curb rash and are wearing new Bridgestone tires. All the glass is original including the windscreen. The rubber is all-original and shows no cracks or signs of age. The interior is equally nice and certainly an indication of the gentle life this 930 has had. The sport seats show light use and the leather is still supple. The door panels look great with no sagging on the pockets. The leather dash has no cracks. The trunk carpet is original and in excellent condition with no stains. The headliner and interior carpet look fresh as well. All the gauges, buttons, lights, clock, a/c, radio, sunroof, mirrors, switches, etc. operate properly. This Turbo drives as fresh and new feeling as it looks. It starts easily on the first try. The overall feel of the car is very tight and crisp. The power is strong with quick throttle response. The brakes have excellent initial bite and perfect pedal feel. The clutch feels fresh with no slipping and it shifts smoothly through the gears. Everything about how this Porsche drives feels indicative of a well-maintained low mile example. It would be easy to take this Turbo on any long distant tour or prepare it for a PCA national concours event. This 930 is one of the more complete examples I’ve seen. It comes with all the owner’s manuals/books including the stamped maintenance book. Also, it has the original Turbo-specific sales brochure from Porsche and Certificate of Authenticity. A pair of custom marketing hardbound books specific to this actual 930 has been created. Also included is a 3-ring binder with service records: all recent services described above and a few receipts from the mid 90’s. The tool kit is complete and looks like it has never been used. Porsche began experimenting with turbocharging technology on their race cars during the late 1960s, and in 1972 began development on a turbocharged version of the 911. Porsche originally needed to produce the car in order to comply with homologation regulations and had intended on marketing it as a street legal race vehicle like the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS. The FIA’s Appendix “J” rules that brought about the 911 Turbo Carrera RSR 2.1 in 1974 changed in 1975 and 1976. The FIA announced that cars for Group 4 and Group 5 had to look like production cars and would be for “Normal Sale” with a means the distribution of cars to individual purchasers through normal channels of the manufacture. For the 1976 season, new FIA regulations required manufactures to produce 400 cars in twenty-four months to gain approval for Group 4. Group 5 would require the car to be derived from a homologated model in Group 3 or 4. To win the Group 5 Championship, Porsche would first have to have a car that could compete in Group 4 which led to the 934. For Group 5, Porsche would create one of the most successful racing cars of all time, the 935. While the original purpose of the Porsche Turbo was to gain homologation for the 1976 racing season, the marketing department soon awoke to the potential of this ultra high-performing machine when the original target of 400 cars was passed by the end of 1975. Since Porsche wanted to be racing for the 1976 season, they gained FIA homologation for the Porsche Turbo for Group 4 in Nr. 645 on 6 Dec ‘75 after they certified that 400 identical production cars had been completed. The 1,000th 1976 Turbo was completed on 5 May ‘76 and this production number allowed Porsche reclassify the Turbo for Group 3, series-production grand touring car in FIA Homologation Nr. 3076, 1 Jan ‘77. Additional variants to Group 4 (and Group 5) were promulgated in Nr. 3076 and included the 1977 model year (chassis nr. 9307700001, 1 Jan ‘77) and the 3.3 liter Turbo (chassis nr. 9308700001, 1 Jan ‘78). FIA Nr. 3076 remained in effect until replaced by FIA B-208 in 1 Mar 1982 for Group A/B when the homologation designation was changed from “Porsche Turbo” to “911 Turbo”. Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche, who was running the company at the time, handed development of the vehicle over to Ernst Fuhrmann, who adapted the turbo-technology originally developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM car to the 3.0 litre flat-six from the Carrera RS 3.0, creating what Porsche internally dubbed as 930. Total output from the engine was 260 PS (191 kW; 256 hp), much more than the standard Carrera. In order to ensure that the platform could make the most of the higher power output, a revised suspension, larger brakes and stronger gearbox became part of the package, although some consumers were unhappy with Porsche’s use of a 4-speed whilst a 5-speed manual was available in the “lesser” Carrera. A “whale tail” rear spoiler was installed to help vent more air to the engine and help create more downforce at the rear of the vehicle, and wider rear wheels with upgraded tires combined with flared wheelarches were added to increase the 911’s width and grip, making it more stable. Early US-spec 930 – note “Turbo Carrera” badging Porsche badged the vehicle simply as “Turbo” (although early U.S. units were badged as “Turbo Carrera”) and debuted it at the Paris Auto Show in October 1974 before putting it on sale in the spring of 1975; export to the United States began in 1976. The 930 proved very fast but also very demanding, prone by its short wheelbase and rear engine layout to oversteer and plagued by significant turbo-lag. Porsche made its first and most significant upgrades to the 930 for 1978, enlarging the engine to 3.3 litres and adding an air-to-air intercooler. By cooling the pressurized air charge, the intercooler helped increase power output to 300 hp (DIN); the rear ‘whale tail’ spoiler was re-profiled and raised slightly to make room for the intercooler. Porsche also upgraded the brakes to units similar to those used on the 917 racecar. Changing emissions regulations in Japan and the U.S. forced Porsche to withdraw the 930 from those markets in 1980. It remained, however, available in Canada. Believing the luxurious 928 gran turismo would eventually replace the 911 as the top of the Porsche line, Fuhrmann cut-back spending on the model, and it was not until Fuhrmann’s resignation the company finally committed the financing to re-regulate the car. The 930 remained available in Europe, and for 1983 a 330 PS (243 kW; 325 hp) performance option became available on a build-to-order basis from Porsche. With the add-on came a 4-pipe exhaust system and an additional oil-cooler requiring a remodelled front spoiler and units bearing the add-on often featured additional ventilation holes in the rear fenders and modified rockers. A 1982 Porsche 911 SC modified to the Flachbau (“slantnose”) appearance. Porsche offered a “Flachbau” (“slantnose”) 930 under the “Sonderwunschprogramm” (special order program) beginning in 1981, an otherwise normal 930 with a 935-style slantnose instead of the normal 911 front end. Each Flachbau unit was handcrafted by remodeling the front fenders. So few were built that the slantnose units often commanded a high premium price, adding to the fact that they required a initial premium of up to 60 per cent (highly individualized cars even more) over the standard price. Several sources claim the factory built 948 units. The Flachbau units delivered in Europe usually featured the 330 hp (246 kW) performance kit. It was in 1984 that Porsche produced the fastest of the 930 Turbos with exhilarating pace 0-60 4.6 s with a top speed of 278 km/h. These are the cars in greatest demand. By the 1985 model year, 928 sales had risen slightly, but question remained whether it would supersede the 911 as the company’s premier model. Porsche re-introduced the 930 to the Japanese and U.S. markets in 1986 with an emission-controlled engine producing 282 PS (207 kW; 278 hp). At the same time Porsche introduced Targa and Cabriolet variants, both of which proved popular. Porsche discontinued the 930 after model year 1989 when its underlying “G-Series” platform was being replaced by the 964. ’89 models were the first and last versions of the 930 to feature the G50 transmission, a 5-speed manual transmission. A turbo version of the 964 officially succeeded the 930 in 1991 with a modified version of the same 3.3 liter flat-6 engine and a 5-speed transmission. Up for auction a beautiful 1977 turbo Carrera- three owner car, fully documented service history, one of one in paint sample metallic code 707. Original dark brown leather interior, very good to excellent condition, original Bamberg radio, original owner’s manual with service stamps. Excellent mechanical condition- car runs and drives like new. Interior original and in very good condition. The early non-intercooled 930's have gone from being unwanted uncared for used cars to very collectable is a very short period of time. The good news is many cars are being properly saved- the bad news is lots of turds have been pulled out of barns and polished up and are being made available for sale w/o any history or records. The car comes with full ownership/service history, has always been properly ($$) maintained, indoor stored never wrecked or modified. It has been re-painted (metallic black) at some point, in a shade that appears to be darker than original paint, which looks gold brown to me. My plans had always been to re-paint car in original color but I am in the middle of three restorations currently and lets just say I'm spending a little bit of money on cars these days. As anyone know who is shopping there are some very nice, very expensive restored turbo carrera's for sale and a few beat up cars that will require $100k + investments to be drivable and relatively few nice drivable cars - this is one of those. Transmission Clean and Clear Oregon Title Late 1979 Manufacture Date Vehicle is located in Costa Mesa, CA As Porsche Turbos were being banned from the United States, Porsche was pushing as many 930s on the boat in 1979 all the way until the last day of the year. The U.S. dealers were scrambling to get their hands on as many as possible as the demand was huge. The domestic market feared that the 930 would never come back. Six years later, 930s were once again arriving here but they were much different cars. The smog law restrictions choked the life out of them and they seemed to be more of a GT car than a direct descendent of the 935. This example didn’t quite make the boat and turned out to be one of the very few Turbos produced in 1980 (lowest production year in the model history outside of the 1975 model). The total run for the world was only 840 units. It was ordered with the following options: Air conditioning Rear wiper Power windows Blaupunkt radio with rear speakers It was originally sold as a German delivered Porsche where it only lived for 4-years before being imported to the U.S. We have all the documents from new including service receipts and proper EPA/DOT documents. A physician in Ohio imported the car and took delivery on April 17th, 1984 with 1,070 miles. He then sold it to a neighbor on April 10th, 1987 with 10,000 miles. This owner used it as a daily driver for a little over 3-years before selling it on November 29th, 1990 to another mutual friend with 32,000 miles. This owner kept the car the longest. He had it until May 27th, 2011 when he sold it with 52,000 miles. During this owner’s care, he had a full engine rebuild performed at 40,000 miles (in the early 1990’s). The receipts show a full drivetrain restoration. The next owner lived in Arizona and only kept the car for a few years and barely drove it. He sold it on August 8th, 2014 with 53,500 miles. Because the car sat for many years after the rebuild with very little use, some oil leaks began to show up. The current owner is a perfectionist and wanted this Turbo to be mechanically sound and drive properly. He hired a local, well-respected Porsche specialist to go through the entire motor again. He invested over $26,000 in the following repairs/services: Remove engine and transmission Fresh top-end rebuild New clutch kit/refinish flywheel New rings New head studs (APR) Reconditioned the cylinder heads, rocker arms, and camshafts Refinished the original Fuch wheels New tires Furthermore, this 930 came to this owner with a Kolken turbo, B&B Tri-Flo exhaust, short shift kit, Aire-Tek induction system, Weltmeister strut brace, Euro RS front and rear bumpers, and a front bumper mounted RSR-style oil cooler. Dyno results show nearly 300hp at the rear wheels. Also, this 930 doesn’t leak a drop of oil. Not only do we have all the importation documentation, we have all the records verifying ownership history and mileage. The exterior of this 930 is excellent. The paint looks very good for its age with minimal signs of wear. It was repainted sometime ago due to the typical clear coat issues Porsche had with their early metallic paints. It was obviously a quality glass out job as there is no overspray on the rubber. We believe they used the original Glasurit code paint as well. The original anodized window trim looks great and it is refreshing to see no one has painted them black. All the glass is original except for a newer windscreen. The original factory Fuchs have recently been restored and wear new tires. The interior is equally nice and appears to be all-original. The leather seats are in nice shape with just some minor wear on the driver exit bolsters. The factory green carpet is well preserved and not stained or torn. The door panels and pockets look great with some minor warping of the door pocket flaps. The original leather dash has no cracks, but is showing some minor shrinkage up against the windscreen. The headliner is all original as well and showing just some minor wear near the corners around c-pillars…very minor. All the gauges work properly including the clock and Blaupunkt radio. The switches to the mirrors work fine. The A/C was just dye tested and recharged. It blows cold. All in all, this is an excellent example of a very rare color combination Porsche 930. Hands down, this generation 930s (early intercooled models) is my favorite. They are the pure driver’s turbo. They embody the myth of these cars. They are raw, fast, and fun. Yet, they can still be docile enough to sit in traffic (love the tall 1st gear on these cars). It is clear this turbo has been built and tuned properly. It’s got enormous power on tap and at first surprises you a bit. But, it’s not so violent that you get nauseous on the way to work. The steering feels so light and incredible responsive. These early intercooled turbos are very nimble. Of course, the brakes are the best in the world. They have insane retina detaching power that are only limited by the traction of the tires. This 930 would have been (in my eyes) the perfect car to do a road trip in for Rennsport Reunion in Monterey. Of course, Targa Baja California is around the corner and I think this would be a blast on that vintage tour. Oregon registration is current and good to March 2017. It also recently passed the Oregon emissions/smog test. It was registered and smog checked in California up until 2 months ago. We recently ran it through CA smog and it passed with flying colors, but they wouldn’t issue a certificate because we need the BAR sticker which was removed when the car was painted. We have an appointment to get a new sticker shortly. This 930 comes with its original jack, space saver spare, tool kit, owners manual, and extensive receipts/history. No major damage, just looks to be a cosmetic re-spray on the one panel many years ago.
