Roll-Royce Silver Shadow II 1980 Original presentation and wonderful condition This is a very fine Silver Shadow II finished in 2-tone Caribbean blue over Peacock with dark blue fine-lines on the waistline and hubcap trim rings. The interior is finished in Navy blue with dove grey piping. This combination is rarely seen on Shadow IIs in the US. This is a very clean and original example that has been well cared for by its 2 previous mature owners of some 30 odd years. It is totally original with no modifications. It even has it original Blaupunkt blue-dot push button radio and factory Pioneer tape deck in its original position. A nice genuine touch. Mechanically this Silver Shadow II is strong. For the last 5 years it has been in the care of a classic car mechanic and, as you would expect, is a well maintained example. Under the care of the Park-Ward Motor museum, all our Rolls-Royces are fully work-shop tested including the all important hydraulics and braking system. These were overhauled where required; pumps, accumulators, reservoirs cleaned, lines & hoses replaced, calipers & pads inspected and system final pressure tested and bled. The level heights are correct. Transmission, engine ancillaries and exhaust are all inspected and the car road-tested for correct operation. The car drives very “tight” without any of the typical “rattles & thumps” typical of this model. The car is now all up to date on its services and EVERYTHING operating as it should. The body is straight and paint very shiny and consistent. Much of the top surfaces, for example, are original finish, which is quite rare and will please the enthusiasts. Of course, because of the predominantly factory paint, the car does have the signature hair-lines at the base of the “A” & “C” pillars (Rolls-Royce used the “lead-wiping” technique for joining body panels. With the different expansion and contraction rates of lead vs steel, this caused the paint to fracture and so paint stress marks at these points occurred on every single Silver Shadow). Overall, the car is minor on other blemishes and marks so presents well - certainly above average for a Rolls-Royce of this age. As a daily driver, the paint presents as a 8 or 9 out-of-10. The interior presents very clean and fresh with the leather in an excellent state. It has been mildly re-Connollised (a hand-rubbing process to restore colour) and is in fine condition without any noticeable wear and tear. The Connolly hide in this example is the Navy blue with Dove grey piping which matches in nicely with the 2-tone exterior paint combination. The wood was redone we are guessing some 2-3 years ago, not by Park-Ward, but presents nicely without any fractures in the lacquer. The dash roll is in excellent condition with no leather pulling at the vents. This is one of the best testaments for the cars garaged and stored status for most of its life as over time, even minimal sun will damage these. All features, gauges, instruments and electrics work well. All interior lights and dash lights are all fully working. Heater and air-conditioning are fully functional. These are all thoroughly gone thru by Park-Ward. For example, we service all the windows to ensure smooth and swift up and down movement (windows often get very slow on Silver Shadows). The mileage, although not verifiable by documentation, is evident when you look closely at the various finishes. For example, the chrome and bright-work around the car is excellent. The brake pedal has minimal wear. This is a hard car to fault and drives very strong. As you would expect from a car of this mileage that has been well maintained, it comes with its original manual, tools and jack. ~~ This is a lovely example of the Silver Shadow II marque which presents very well in its rare Caribbean over Peacock colour combination. It is not a show car but an excellent 8-out-of-10 daily driver that is in all-round well above average condition. It is available for immediate enjoyment and admiration. ~~ Interesting information on the Silver Shadow series The “II” mark provided considerable improvement over the earlier Silver Shadow. In 1977, the model was renamed the Silver Wraith II (Shadow II) in recognition of several major changes, most notably rack and pinion steering, modifications to the front suspension which improved handling markedly, a dual exhaust along with the first-to-market fully automatic dual system air-conditioning system and a modernised and improved dash lay-out. When our Rolls-Royces are commissioned for resale, they are indeed professionally and correctly “fully work-shopped”. No corners are cut. And it is all addressed in true Crewe tradition. There is way too much to list here but to give you an example of our commitment to excellence of the various processes, this is one such example of what we do: Doors and windows:- Every car has its interior door panels removed. If the wood is in need of repair (as most are) it is refinished in-house by trained and talented craftsmen at Park-Ward Motors. This is a detailed process of stripping the wood of its old lacquer, repairing the veneer if there is damage, staining the top surface as per Rolls-Royce methodology and refinishing with no less than 25 coats of clear lacquer. Hand wet-sanded and polished between all of its last 15 coats. New window felt guides and wood-to-glass foam seals are fitted. All window mechanisms are checked and serviced for smooth and efficient up and down movement. This includes an electrical modification to rectify the typical “slow window syndrome”. All tracks, chains and gears are lubricated. Where central locking is fitted, these are all serviced to ensure no “solenoid sticking”, another common problem. Units are repaired and or changed as required for refurbished units. Door wiring and door-to-body wiring is checked, repaired and/or replaced as required. The splash plastic on the inside of the doors to protect the leather panels from rain splash from inside the door is replaced with correct specification black plastic as used by the factory. Cut to shape and glued in position as per original. All door hardware is checked and repaired as required including locks, handles and scuttle finishes. The door is reassembled with all items cleaned and polished. The wood refitted and the leather panels are re-Connollised before final fitment. Take this example and apply it to the many, many different aspects of Rolls-Royce restoration, service and maintenance and you have our dedication to correct and professional vehicle pre-delivery preparation and commissioning. **PLEASE read auction terms and conditions below BEFORE bidding.** ~~oo00oo~~ This Rolls-Royce is part of a private collection. This is even more likely with hand-built English cars of early technology when compared to the typical American car of the same vintage. Please note, fitted radio/stereo systems are usually subject to upgrade by purchasers so I do not ensure operation of these. Similarly, cruise control systems fitted to these classics were of an inferior design and I do not check or warrant the operation of these. Suspension and brakes on these cars are complex. We thoroughly check them and replace things that are identified faulty. But please understand, by example; if we change a brake line because it appears aged or faulty, we do NOT at the same time replace all other hoses because they are of similar age. This is considered "preventative maintenance". We do not do this unless specifically requested and is not included in the purchase price. Feel free to ask for this additional service. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 25 years old. This is the nature of any classic car and especially a Rolls-Royce which was very "complicated" for its era. For this reason it is necessary for the following condition: The vehicle is being sold "as-is/where-is" with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are made with reasonable judgment and all efforts are made to ensure fair assessment and accuracy but they are for descriptive and identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. You need to be a special and considerate type of purchaser to own a Rolls-Royce. Their down-side is part of the fun in owning them! Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II 1979 A simply beautiful original example! Here is a really fine and original example of a Shadow II. Finished in Masons black with gold/tan fine lines to the waist-rail and hubcap beauty rings. The interior has handsome biscuit tan Connolly hides and contrasting chocolate carpets. The biscuit tan Wilton wool carpet theme carries through to the boot. This is an unmolested example that has been beautifully maintained and presents in excellent condition. This was a Texan example so it is a “dry” car that has had a garaged environment. As a result, it has been freed from the perils of harsh weather and is very clean underneath. It was collector owned for the last 5 years out of Michigan but NEVER used in inclement weather. She has always been well maintained and serviced and comes with its original manual. The Silver Shadow II presented here has been recently fully work-shop inspected by Park-Ward with all work needed carried out. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes have been fully inspected and thoroughly serviced as required. This included brake pumps, accumulators, calipers, all brake hoses and then final system pressure tested and bled. Everything mechanical and operational has been gone thru. It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low 59,300 and although this is not verifiable, the mileage is commensurate with the condition (particularly when you look at the condition of the leather, dash, brake pedal, inside of doors etc). We have no doubt it is correct. It is very quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior of this Shadow is close to perfect. The biscuit tan Connolly hide leather is 100% original from the factory. It has never been re-dyed and is in absolutely outstanding condition with no tears nor fading and very supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved. A great welcome with true “original leather” is the colour characteristics. If you look at the pictures of the interior, there are some close up shots that clearly show the colour is not just plain light tan, but with a “burnished” tone to the leather. You can see the biscuit tan base and then in the fine natural grain of the leather is a darker tone. This natural quasi “antique” leather look (like a Chesterfield couch) was achieved by the hand rubbing Connollising technique that made this leather so famous and for which its name now describes the correct procedure for refinishing leather – “Connollising”. Leather that has been re-dyed by typical methods is “mono-toned” featuring only the 1 primary colour. As such, it lacks depth and richness that unrestored Connolly hide has to offer. See photos here: A new Blaupunkt stereo system has been added with blue tooth and auxiliary inputs. Brand new high quality speakers have been discretely fitted throughout. The burr walnut wood throughout the car is stunning. They are also completely original and have not been redone, They are not flawless (not a word you can use flippantly) but in excellent condition with only the most minor imperfections on the front door cappings. Certainly stunning for a 32 year old Rolls-Royce and by no means in need of redoing. The colour is deep, the grain rich and the finish smooth. By the delight of Mother Nature, there is a very interesting "face-like" pattern in the doors which is really charming. The head lining is brand new and in correct Rolls-Royce Broad cloth wool. It was only redone because of a 1" tear above the rear passenger area. It is now, of course, perfect. The carpets are in good condition and come with a full set of lambswool moutons in matching dark chocolate. The leather finishes to the dash and top-roll are excellent with no drying or shrinkage normally seen. The boot (trunk) carpet with leather matching biscuit tan finish is in excellent condition. The body on this Shadow II is very straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The paint on the car is primarily original which is very rare to see these days on a Silver Shadow. For this model to show-off its original paint can only be thru a cossetted life in doors and mostly garaged. The body and paint finish is entirely consistent. When you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. The paint presents beautifully with only the most minor little mark here and there from use and does have some of the Rolls-Royce signature hair-line paint fracturing at the base of the A & C pillar, but is otherwise entirely consistent with a low-mileage meticulously maintained example. (Rolls-Royce used lead to join body panels and because of the different metallurgic properties of lead, steel and aluminium, the expansion and contraction causes minor paint stresses over time. ALL Silver Shadows display this syndrome. These are very minor, however). If you did not know, you would think the car was repainted in the last 5 years - it is that good! Certainly, it needs nothing other than a wax from time to time. The tyres are period correct whitewalls which drive smooth and comfortably but if you are planning long distance touring could do with replacing simply because of age (we are happy to arrange) but if you are intending to do basic "potting around", they are just fine. The hubcaps are excellent with no imperfections in the stainless or painted trim rings. They reflect like a mirror. The pin-striping on the beauty rings are finished in the original hand-painted technique. All remaining bright-work is in excellent condition as is glass, electrics and instruments. All electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. Under the bonnet, the presentation is amazingly clean and original. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life. The car has its original jack still in its factory original wax paper wrapper, correct tools and operating manual. The car is of very high standard and is an easy 10 out of 10 driver rating. ~~ This is immaculate and stately Shadow II is in excellent condition and a very fine representation of the marque that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. If the wood is in need of repair (as most are) it is refinished in-house by trained and talented craftsmen at Park-Ward Motors. This is a detailed process of stripping the wood of its old lacquer, repairing the veneer if there is damage, staining the top surface as per Rolls-Royce methodology and refinishing with no less than 25 coats of clear lacquer. Hand wet-sanded and polished between all of its last 15 coats. New window felt guides and wood-to-glass foam seals are fitted. All window mechanisms are checked and serviced for smooth and efficient up and down movement. This includes an electrical modification to rectify the typical “slow window syndrome”. All tracks, chains and gears are lubricated. Where central locking is fitted, these are all serviced to ensure no “solenoid sticking”, another common problem. Units are repaired and or changed as required for refurbished units. Door wiring and door-to-body wiring is checked, repaired and/or replaced as required. The splash plastic on the inside of the doors to protect the leather panels from rain splash from inside the door is replaced with correct specification black plastic as used by the factory. Cut to shape and glued in position as per original. All door hardware is checked and repaired as required including locks, handles and scuttle finishes. The door is reassembled with all items cleaned and polished. The wood refitted and the leather panels are re-Connollised before final fitment. Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow 1976 A really nice clean original example ready to be enjoyed! Here is a really fine example of a Silver Shadow. Finished in 2-tone Walnut over over Masons black with tan fine lines to the waist-rail and hubcap beauty rings. The interior has handsome biscuit tan Connolly hides and matching carpets. The same theme carries through to the boot. This is an unmolested example that has been nicely maintained and presents in very good condition. This was a Californian car most of its life so it is a very “dry” entirely rust free example that had a garaged environment. It has always been well maintained and serviced and comes with its original manual. The Silver Shadow presented here has been recently fully work-shop inspected with all work needed carried out. Although a well maintained car to commence with, all important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes have been fully inspected and serviced as needed. It is ready to drive and enjoy. The odometer shows a low 43,500 and although this is not verifiable the mileage is commensurate with the overall condition. It is quiet and smooth on the road without any of the typical “thumps” and “rattles” typical of poor (or even averagely) maintained examples of this model. The interior looks excellent. It is a highlight of the car's presentation. The biscuit tan leather is in outstanding condition with no cracks, tears nor fading and very supple and soft – true to its Connolly characteristics. The leather really has been lovingly preserved (on the back seat there is a slight gap where the leather meets the piping). All the burl walnut wood finishes were redone by Park-Ward and are to deep glass-like finish. A very rich deep-grained burl walnut that is simply exquisite to look at as well as touch. The head lining is like brand new without a single mark or blemish. I think perhaps it has been changed at some point and if so, it is an excellent job as it is the original broad cloth wool material and to exacting Rolls-Royce standards. The carpets are good with a nice set of lambswool mouton overlays. Likewise are the leather finishes to the dash and top-roll. The body on this Shadow is straight and the paint is shiny and lustrous. The 2-tone arrangement is the original factory colour scheme. The car still displays much of its original Walnut paint finish from the factory. Although all clean and consistent, there are signs of aging on the upper half. The car does show little chips and nicks here and there (but no dents or dings) and the typical Rolls-Royce weak spots of light paint fatigue at the base of the “A” and “C” pillars - ALL original Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars from this era suffered this effect, where the infamous “lead wiping technique” was employed (lead was used to join panels instead of bondo and, given the characteristics of lead vs. steel, the lead would expand and contract at a different rate causing the paint surface to crack over time). The roof top has lightly crazed but you cannot see this as you casually approach the car, (you need to get close to see it) and there are the typical small stone chips around the front headlamps. Notwithstanding, it all together presents very well and is ideal for a lovely "weekend driver". It does not warrant redoing if this is your intent of ownership. Importantly, when you look down the sides of the car, they are very straight and true. From a driver/enthusiast point of view, the imperfections are quite acceptable and do not detract from the cars overall appearance. It is certainly shiny and crisp. The white-wall tyres are not new but sport plenty of tread and the hubcaps are excellent with no imperfections in the stainless steel finish. The stainless caps are either new or perhaps were machine polished very recently. The pin-striping on the hubcap beauty rings are finished in the original hand-painted technique. All remaining bright-work is in good condition as is glass, electrics and instruments. All electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and courtesy light. Under the bonnet, the presentation is well above standard. It has not been precision detailed but simply kept clean and tidy throughout its life.
