This is my mother's 2000 Taurus SE wagon. She is the original owner having purchased it new in 2000 from Union Park Ford in Wilmington Delaware. The only reason for the sale is that my father is no longer fit to drive so she has decided to keep his car and sell hers. As you can see from the photos below, this car has been METICULOUSLY cared for. It has always been garaged and kept protected. It has quite a bit of mileage (the condition of the car has all who see it in disbelief!), but it has always received timely maintenance and repairs. All service records since new will be included with the car. All maintenance and repairs were either handled by the dealer, a local trusted repair shop, or by myself. If it was a repair that I performed, the receipts with the supplies/parts are also included with the date and mileage noted on the receipt. Overall, the car is in good mechanical condition and ready to be used as daily transportation. All features and accessories work as intended. The A/C blows cold and, amazingly, has never required service. The brakes are in good condition as are the tires. In the spirit of full disclosure, some additional background: Early during her ownership, my mother hit a deer with the front of the car. The front bumper cover and one headlight were replaced with OEM replacement parts and the hood and adjacent fender were repainted/blended. The color match is perfect as I can't even determine which side it actually was. There are a handful of scrapes, scratches, and dings from a couple of run-ins my father had with curbs, posts, and random objects in the garage. At around 140,000 miles, one of the needle bearings within the transmission failed and damaged the gearset. I was able to obtain a replacement gear set and a full set of new bearings, clutches, and bands in order to rebuild the entire transmission. The case was flushed to remove any trapped debris and the entire valve body was disassembled, cleaned, and resealed. After assembly and installation in the car, it was discovered that there is some minor slippage in overdrive which I believe to be a sticky overdrive solenoid. Since I didn't feel like taking the whole thing apart again I simply suggested that my mother just use it in "Drive" as opposed to "Overdrive". It also occasionally has a bit of a firm shift from 3rd to 4th gear. This too may be a sticky solenoid, but again, I didn't really feel like digging into it again. It has survived for almost 50,000 miles this way so I imagine it should be fine going forward. I pulled the pan to replace the filter and flush the fluid this past weekend (to confirm that everything looked OK). The fluid looked exactly as it should, nice and red, and there were no metal shavings or any other indicators that there might be problems lurking inside. Now that that's out of the way, on to the good stuff! As you can see from the photos, the exterior and interior of the car are extremely clean. The leather is almost perfect with the exception of some very minor cracking on the driver's seat only. It is soft and supple, not hard or stiff. The carpets are in very good condition. In fact, the floor mats are the original floor mats. She put a set of rubber floor liners in the car almost immediately after purchasing it. The carpet in the cargo area is also very clean, though it does have a couple of spots. We did not attempt to clean these, so there is a good chance they might come right out. There are no tears or wear through anywhere. All of the plastic trim panels and the headliner are in very good condition with minimal wear. One item to note is that the leather on the two rear doors had separated from the door panels at one point (the glue failed). It was reglued, but could likely be done better. Curiously, the front door panels don't have this issue. The car has a current PA state and emissions inspection that is valid until March 2016. The title is clean and clear. Finally, the equipment. This car is loaded! I'm not sure there were any options offered this model year that the car doesn't have. I've included photos of the original window sticker for reference, but it's a little tough to read because it was folded and the ink bled. Quite superior to the rest of the Oldsmobile line up the 98 was the top of the line model and equipped with all power options standard. This vehicle had underwent a full frame off restoration in the late 90’s and has been well cared for since. The car is in excellent running condition all power options work as they should and represents a very presentable example. Having some aged since its restoration, the car has been driven and shows some signs of road use with a few nicks and chips but nothing major. The interior is nice, seats are like new as is the top. The vehicle is finished in its original colors of Provincial White with a Garnet Metallic trim line. The interior is the code 385 red, the top is Garnet. Original drivetrain is in excellent condition it is equipped with a 394/325hp high compression engine at 10.1, all its power a luxury equipment includes Power Steering and Brakes, Power Top and Power Seat, wonder bar radio and power antenna. The vehicle is an exceptional driver in good condition it could benefit from some minor refreshing to its rubber trim pieces and carpet over all it is fabulous car to own and enjoy. Oldsmobile History for 1961 Cars GM lines in 1961, for the most part, exemplified the new, cleaner, lower, longer, wider look that was just coming into fashion. Simple, twin, round combination tail/stop/directional lights enhanced the rocketlike styling as did the tapered rear fender styling. The flamboyant fins of the fifties were all but gone from GM’s lineup, except Cadillac which would hold onto them for just a few more years. The very first Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight appeared for model year 1941. The series name would continue to signify the top-of-the-line, flagship model for the next fifty-eight years, the last issues being built for the 1999 model year. Super 88s may have been ‘super’ but the Ninety-Eight was always the creme de la creme of the Oldsmobile fleet. Typically riding a longer wheelbase with an appropriately greater overall length, the Ninety-Eight had a more powerful engine than the base level Eighty-Eight and as one might expect, a host of appearance and convenience features that were optional, at extra cost, on Eighty-Eight and Super 88 models. The privileged few (roughly one in six full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 were Ninety-Eight models) paid at least $4,072 for the opportunity– an additional $1,000.00 or thirty-three percent up-charge for the prestige of Ninety-Eight ownership. That was quite a hefty premium considering that the base price of a base model Eight-Eight was only $2,956.00 at the time. All full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 shared the same 6.46 liter (that’s 394 cubic inches) cast iron, V-8 engine 325 horsepower Rocket V-8 one of a continuing series of ‘Rocket V-8s’ designed by Charles Kettering, father of the ‘modern day, high compression V-8 engine. His designs included a number of interesting features including overhead valves, hydraulic lifters, oversquare bore-stroke ratio, forged crank with counterweights, aluminum pistons, full-floating wrist-pins, and a dual plane intake manifold. The 1961 engine was badged the ‘Skyrocket’ V-8. Consumers of top-of-the-line models, like the Olds Ninety-Eight, expected creature comfort, performance and convenience amenities, typically optional at extra cost on lesser models, to be included as standard equipment on their ‘highline’ models. Offered in five body styles including three 4-door models, a 2-door convertible and the coupe shown above... the ‘Classic’ Ninety-Eight for Sixty-One, didn’t let them down. Quite superior to the rest of the Oldsmobile line up the 98 was the top of the line model and equipped with all power options standard. This vehicle had underwent a full frame off restoration in the late 90’s and has been well cared for since. The car is in excellent running condition all power options work as they should and represents a very presentable example. Having some aged since its restoration, the car has been driven and shows some signs of road use with a few nicks and chips but nothing major. The interior is nice, seats are like new as is the top. The vehicle is finished in its original colors of Provincial White with a Garnet Metallic trim line. The interior is the code 385 red, the top is Garnet. Original drivetrain is in excellent condition it is equipped with a 394/325hp high compression engine at 10.1, all its power a luxury equipment includes Power Steering and Brakes, Power Top and Power Seat, wonder bar radio and power antenna. The vehicle is an exceptional driver in good condition it could benefit from some minor refreshing to its rubber trim pieces and carpet over all it is fabulous car to own and enjoy. Oldsmobile History for 1961 Cars GM lines in 1961, for the most part, exemplified the new, cleaner, lower, longer, wider look that was just coming into fashion. Simple, twin, round combination tail/stop/directional lights enhanced the rocketlike styling as did the tapered rear fender styling. The flamboyant fins of the fifties were all but gone from GM’s lineup, except Cadillac which would hold onto them for just a few more years. The very first Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight appeared for model year 1941. The series name would continue to signify the top-of-the-line, flagship model for the next fifty-eight years, the last issues being built for the 1999 model year. Super 88s may have been ‘super’ but the Ninety-Eight was always the creme de la creme of the Oldsmobile fleet. Typically riding a longer wheelbase with an appropriately greater overall length, the Ninety-Eight had a more powerful engine than the base level Eighty-Eight and as one might expect, a host of appearance and convenience features that were optional, at extra cost, on Eighty-Eight and Super 88 models. The privileged few (roughly one in six full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 were Ninety-Eight models) paid at least $4,072 for the opportunity– an additional $1,000.00 or thirty-three percent up-charge for the prestige of Ninety-Eight ownership. That was quite a hefty premium considering that the base price of a base model Eight-Eight was only $2,956.00 at the time. All full size Oldsmobiles for 1961 shared the same 6.46 liter (that’s 394 cubic inches) cast iron, V-8 engine 325 horsepower Rocket V-8 one of a continuing series of ‘Rocket V-8s’ designed by Charles Kettering, father of the ‘modern day, high compression V-8 engine. His designs included a number of interesting features including overhead valves, hydraulic lifters, oversquare bore-stroke ratio, forged crank with counterweights, aluminum pistons, full-floating wrist-pins, and a dual plane intake manifold. The 1961 engine was badged the ‘Skyrocket’ V-8. Consumers of top-of-the-line models, like the Olds Ninety-Eight, expected creature comfort, performance and convenience amenities, typically optional at extra cost on lesser models, to be included as standard equipment on their ‘highline’ models. Offered in five body styles including three 4-door models, a 2-door convertible and the coupe shown above... the ‘Classic’ Ninety-Eight for Sixty-One, didn’t let them down. Interiors were upholstered in a choice of luxurious fabrics, vinyl and/or sumptuous leathers. In addition to a multitude of features listed as standard fare on the base model Eighty-Eight and step-up Super Eighty-Eight models, the Ninety Eight included windshield washer; electric clock; Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission; power steering and power brakes.... Popular upscale options included the Super Deluxe Signal Seeking AM radio ($124.00); power antenna ($23.00); power windows ($106.00) Other incredibly mundane options included a heater and defroster; back up lamps ($9.00); courtesy lamps ($5.00) and anti-spin differential for $45.00. During the 1961 model run, Oldsmobiles were produced in one of SEVEN American cities, Michigan (the home of Oldsmobile); Kansas City, Missouri; Atlanta, Georgia; Linden, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; Arlington, Texas and Wilmington, Delaware.
